I don't know. I just read an article saying gingerbread is undecided and samsung doesn't know if it's going to come on the vibrant. Only time will tell
Sent from my SGH-T959 using XDA App

I don't pay too much attention to that anymore. Before i got my vibrant I had a g1 with froyo on it. my wife had her g1 till a month ago and still had donut because she didn't want me to root it. If your phone is rooted don't worry about it because the devs will come through.

They never mention the United states. Boooo

That is for Samsung India. Even if there's no official release, we should be able to get GB ported from the NexusS.

Samsung wont officially say anything on GB for while
It could possibly interfere NS sales

I think this shady statement says it all. http://phandroid.com/2010/12/08/samsung-on-galaxy-s-gingerbread-possibility-maybe-but-maybe-not/
If I ever see Gingerbread on my Vibrant it'll be thanks to the devs here, not Samsung. At least that's how I feel.

With Samsung hedging, I think that's a clear sign they'll never official release it.
I mean they confirmed Froyo and they are 3-4 months behind the competition in delivering it.

On one hand I think they will release it considering Google chose the guts of the Galaxy S series of phones for their Nexus S which means it should be relatively easy for them to get it running on the phones (granted they'll probably try to shove TWiz on it) it should actually showcase the true power of the Hummingbird's GPU. On the other hand what have they done for me lately?
I'm sort of hedging my bets as well by trying to coax my roommate into getting a Nexus S so I can trade with him. I have absolute faith in the devs here that anything that comes out on the Nexus S will be ported to our phones, but I'd be nice to own something that felt like it was officially supported by the people you bought it from.

Yep, thats what i figure. If we see Gingerbread, it will be because of the Devs in here and then i will never buy a Samsung phone again. They just dont care about supporting their phones like they say they will and its too bad. They are good phones and they will lose many sales because of it.

Thinking of selling my vibrant..

Hi everyone,
My name is lina I haven't really posted before but I read the forums almost every day and even leavened to put nero3 on my phone so thanks for that..unfortunately I don't want a phone I'll have to keep updating myself and this froyo thing really pissed me off. So I wanna sell my phone and see what you recommend is the best one to get from tmobile, one that WILL be updated..thx
Sent from my SGH-T959 using XDA App
The Nexus S is the phone most likely to be updated in a timely manner, as it is primarily controlled by Google and not a carrier (even though it functions on T-Mobile's network).
HTC seems to be better about updating than other OEMs.
a HTC or Nexus S as the guy above me said, they both have great software update times.

I'm going to go with nexus s like everyone else. I'm surprised you dont like the vibrant with nero v3 with voodoo on, since with that it becomes a better phone than the nexus s (at least speed wise).
To be honest, I'd probably go with the nexus s or one of the phones coming out soon if I could. The problem is I bought this one from tmobile for the upgrade price and one for my wife for full price, so it's not really an option to spend anymore on another phone unless it were absolutely necessary.
I'm still content with my phone though. To anyone saying it's already outdated, I guess that makes every phone out right now outdated. The vibrant is comparable (hardware wise) to any phone currently being sold. It really could use some more dev love though.
Sent from my SGH-T959 using XDA App
Hardware wise this phone smokes most everything else, but the software... very annoying...
I'm not unhappy with my Vibrant, I'm just unhappy with Samsung / T-Mobile for not officially releasing Froyo...

Nexus s is a great phone but vibrant would be better if it got 2.3. I love the micro sd slot that the nexus doesn't have.

I purchased a Nexus One based on the same logic...unfortunately, as I'm still running 2.2 when 2.3 has been out for almost a month, I'm starting to question the soundness of said logic.
I do realize that no phone has been officially updated to 2.3 (the Nexus S launched with it). Despite having some excellent custom ROMs in the development section, I'm really disappointed that it's been weeks without an official OTA (or even a leak with some updated drivers for that matter).
To the OP: Are you opposed to a physical keyboard? What about the G2?
Honestly, for t mobile the vibrant is probably their number one imo. So you either go with the $549.00 nexus s, or G2....i don't know, whatever....

Lina, Samsung is to blame for the Froyo firmware issue. They made a promise they could not keep. BUT don't be afraid of updating your phone, It is a lot easier than you think. Since it sounds like you've already done it once already. I know you may have information overload if you have been reading the forums here. Check out my thread here http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=10341870 of two tutorial videos I have made for flashing roms. It is presented as "simple stupid" for anyone to understand. Good luck. Don't throw out the Vibrant yet =]

[Q] What phone after the Vibrant?

I want to see what phone people here will be getting after the Vibrant.
I personally have had my vibrant for about 2 months, but after I heard about the HTC Sensation 4G (actually didn't hear about that phone till yesterday), I decided that I'll pay full price for that phone.
What about you guys?
I know that some people will be getting the LG G2x tomorrow, but I won't. I personally like HTC Sense, especially HTC Sense 3.0. And HTC has a better track records then Samsung when it comes to updates.
I think I might end up on Sprint. I can get a good deal on a plan and only pay 5 bucks more, which would end up being for texting.
Probably gonna switch in august. Whatever is the most dev supported phone they have then.
Sent from my SGH-T959 using XDA Premium App
Honestly I think I'll be skipping this generation of phones. The g2x and sensation are nice but there is nothing about them that makes me feel like im lacking with my vibrant. Development will take some time to get going for them also while we have some nice stuff here in our dev section.
Also my contract is up this year and I dont wana renew until the dust settles from all this att/tmo business.
I'm definitely going to consider HTC. Sensation. Gonna have to play with one. I'll check out the Samsung, but it seems the HTC might have more going for it. I'm not due for an upgrade so I'd have to be very impressed.
Don't blame me, blame my keyboard's autocorrection algorithm.
Since im low on money im going for a mytouch 4g the devs over on there side is cooking up lots of roms there and it has and ffc , really wish i could get the g2x thou but like the guy above said we should wait to c the dev work and about the sensation i think it has locked bootloader so it will take long to get that cracked
Sent from my SGH-T959 using Tapatalk
I'm waiting for the SGS2, seems to be the only phone t-Mobile is getting with a screen larger than 4in, and 4 isn't quite cutting it for me
Sensation is 4.3 afaik.
Don't blame me, blame my keyboard's autocorrection algorithm.
Getting the g2x. I like vanilla android.

going to att merger time yurp im getting the real desire z or atrix but theyre already talking bout sense 3.0 on it
My next phone would be like 2 years from now. So maybe phones will be quad cores by that time.
Sent from my SGH-T959 using XDA App
I was considering the HTC but it's ram is < 1gb so it'll be SGSII for me. Well, that and the benchmarks on engadget show it beating the crap outta the Sensation. Touchwiz 4.0 actually looks pretty good as well (can't believe I just typed that). Maybe Samsung learned from the mess that the original Galaxy S line was. The only thing I'm currently worried about is if the telcos in the states gonna ask for variants again; I really hope not because I'm sure that's what cause a lot of trouble for the updates stateside.
My next phone has to have a 4.3 screen a ffc, flash and hdmi out. I wont settle for anything less. I'm actually still pretty happy with my vibrant. My wife has a Mytouch 4g, it may be a bit faster but my wifi range is better and my web pages load faster in addition my screen is way better.
Ahh. Lots of different phones that people want.
I personally don't want Samsung anymore (TV's, that's a different story, I have 4 of them in my house. ), and I like HTC all around.
If I don't stick with T-Mobile (still contemplating the sensation), I may have to surrender to the Sprint, since they have TRUE unlimited/uncapped data.
Some people in hong kong complained about dead pixels and phone was acting slow on the LG 2x. Might wanna stay away from that. Even without hearing such thing, I am still all over the. SGS2 for the spec. .
Going with the Sensation.

Im pretty happy with my vibrant. I was pisses about the updates until I rooted. I think im gonna stick with the 4 inch screen. Its the best fit for me. Tmo G2X looks promising. I have more than a year left in my contract so im gonna wait and see what's up with the phone scene ag that time.

Yes it is. SAMOLED+
We just got a new froyo build, so the Vibrant may be headed for a Gingerbread release. If it does, I have no reason to get the Sensation.
If I were switching now, I'd skip the HTC Sensation and SGS2. The G2X seems to be a much more capable phone than either IMO. More importantly, I wouldn't want any Sense or Touchwiz crap on my new phone.

This. And as far as trying to build out the brand, it was a poor move to put this into the hands of Verizon the same day the Razr was announced. It sucks because of the fact that data is moving into the cloud, access $80 per 5 piece. I'll never go back to Verizon and the MoPho is a device I can stick with for awhile because the communications and GPS functioning on the device is great.

im hearing a lot of speculation of sprint getting it mid q1 next year (just in time to announce their first LTE sites) at which point i will be selling my gf's soul to get one

I love everything about the Galaxy Nexus and am really tempted to upgrade. But two things threw me off:
- exclusive to Verizon. What the heck. What happened to the promise to be open and not stick to one carrier? That was just last year when they released the Nexus S!
- Likely to be CDMA only. As a student from Hong Kong that goes back every half year, I need my GSM connectivity on my Photon.
Now that Google bought Motorola, I have high hopes that they will bring ICS to Photon.

the international version is gsm and carrier unlocked, just the same as the previous nexus. if you are on tmo or att that version will work fine
verizon exclusive is only until sprint gets lte set up. sprint just bought a CRAPLOAD of iphones and is subsidzing them at a horrible cost to themselves. once they have the capital and lte networks up i expect to see a sprint version

I was asking everyone for their opinions just to get some idea of what I should do...I would wait for sprint to get the device because I used to work for Verizon and they are full of **** over there but I am not sure about the devices as a whole...things have been moving really slow over here and I give much thanks and props to the guys that have been developing over here but I am used to flashing at will without all of the problems with 4g wifi etc...I get bored easily so I am already looking for my next device but when I can flash at will it keeps my current device fresh and new for me and I don't get bored with it as fast....if I can get ICS in the next couple of Weeks thru a leak our something I will be good until upgrade time I guess
Motorola is probably working on it but a release of ics won't be until march April maybe.. It won't come overnight but in time...

Just out of curiosity, what is soon? When you purchased the Note originally, when did you expect it to have ICS?
When I bought my Infuse it came with Froyo. It should have had GB and AT&T stalled for months only to release a broken GB update. Never did I think of returning the Infuse because of that. Now that I have the Note and it is running GB, I am fine with waiting for ICS. Because in all honesty, I will probably end up rooting the device and installing an ICS ROM well before anything comes out from AT&T. The ROMS that were available for the Infuse were awesome and if I were not eligible for an upgrade when I bought my Note, I would still be happily using that device.
I thought it would be updated fairly quickly with the potential the phone has, but at the same time nobody purchased the note to use it and all of a sudden a year later its updated. Don't get me wrong I love android and the note but I have always felt the ball is dropped when it comes to updates and pushing them out.. How is it that they are mentioning "jelly bean" when over 90% of the android devices that are out now don't even have ICS, and with the notes specs it is more than capable of running it if my nexus a could. As far as "soon", and I'm not sure, but possibly if not within my 30 day return period if I decide I don't want to keep it. More than likely I will keep it.

Should I buy Motorola Atrix 4G or Sony Xperia Sola?

Need some advice; should I buy the Motorola Atrix 4G or Sony Xperia Sola? I plan to use it with Straight Talk AT&T.
I'd go with the xperia if you have no other option. The Atrix has better specs but you'll at least start out with ICS on that and likely get JB later on. Moto has all nut abandoned the Atrix and aside from a small patch coming soon it has little life left before it's ancient history.

No, I'd rather have a phone that can be upgraded. I love the Atrix but for 'financial reasons' it's been ditched by it's manufacturer offering virtually no further support.
Although there is a slight possibility of an agreement whereby we may be able to get source for the upgrades, there won't be any official upgrades. To me there is no excuse for such poor support of a device. Particularly when you consider far more complex computers receiving updates sometimes a decade or more after it's release. I do give at least some respect (even though I shouldn't) for the fact that they dug themselves a hole to support far too many devices at once with a runaway release of newer ones each year which makes it logistically impossible to support them.

Definitely not the direction I'm going in. Seems a bit too much like rewarding them for failing to deliver on the updates and gives them more incentive to do the same thing all over again knowing that people will still keep buying regardless of how much they fail to deliver.

Xperia Sola.
Sony or Samsung.
Xperia Sola. It have much better support, plus, it will get ported stock JB.
If you seek for a latest update, minimal usage(surfing, text, mainstream games)get the Sola. Overall experience, I'd go for Atrix eventho it got left behind with Gingy..
The Atrix have tons of awesome hardware (fingerprint sensor etc) , nice build quality and better audio. If you're much of a customizing and not afraid of unlocking your phone, go for Atrix
Don't buy an operator branded Sony handset! Unbranded ones are great, and very well supported but going by my experience with a friend's Xperia U, branded handsets are locked down like Fort Knox.
Why not an atrix2?

Motorola isn't the only company that has screwed someone over. Anyways the Motorola X is going to be the first phone released with Key Lime Pie. So technically it's a Nexus without its branding, like the Xoom which got updates all the way til 4.1

They may not be the only company that screwed anyone over, but for a number of people, they are the one that made the device that people are currently stuck with no updates and the only reward for brand loyalty is mixing some shards of glass into the lube on your next purchase. What incentive do I or anyone else have to take another chance on Motorola?

I'm sure the AT&T Motorola X will come especially locked to prevent you accidentally installing a 'software update' if such a thing even exists. and for those who like to dig deeper, a special feature to shoot you in the face if you try to unlock the bootloader.
No thanks, never again. I won't give the company any money on principal, even if the next Nexus is a Motorola, and it's otherwise great.
That's why I'm going with the T-Mobile unsubsidized plans, and if it's as cheap as the Nexus 4 unlocked I'm going to get it.

Sad Motorola boycotter is sad to hear that XDA members will not be boycotting crappy companies who need to apologise for their crappy ways and sort this situation out by releasing kernel source at the very least.
They'll do it again, I'm sure. Don't get burned. I mean, they promised to change their ways just before cancelling the Atrix update.

Agreed. However, I was just looking at AT&T's current offerings, with the exception of a couple devices, their Android lineup is the most underwhelming thing I've seen since my LG Vu.
Edit:
T-Mobile's lineup doesn't look much better.
