Replacing the screen of the Vibrant? - Vibrant Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

So... I fumbled my phone today.... and I have a hairline crack down my screen.
Has anyone tried replacing the screens of these things so far? Know if it can be done/how easily? Where to get a new screen? Thanks guys... This is so sad!

I'm not sure where to get a repair but be wary of cell repair shops. There was a post not too long ago where someone went to a cell repair shop and the damaged SAMOLED screen was replaced with a regular LCD screen. I think warranty, insurance or Samsung might be the first places to check.

Well I bought the phone over craigslist... I think I may just try and buy another. :/
I'm working a couple shifts at a local restaurant this week. Worst case, 2-3 night's tips gets me a new phone. A local vibrant dev/modder hangs out there a lot, I'll let him look at it for me.

I think I'll give replacing the display a go. Anyone know a good website to buy one from?

[Q] Shattered the screen on my Vibrant

First off, I searched and didn't see my specific question answered.
I shattered my screen last night...it's ruined but the phone still works. I put some clear packing tape over it and it's Ok for the time being. I've dropped this phone probably 5 times, several being on concrete and it never even scratched the screen. I don't think it's ever actually landed face down before last night though.
I was wondering if anyone knows if T-Mobile insurance covers a shattered screen? I'm not interested in an "at home fix" because I'm not that handy. I'm hoping T-Mobile will either replace the phone or the screen for the $50 deductible. Any ideas?
You guys are awesome, thanks for all the help in the past!
they will replace it if you have insurance but the deductable is $130 not $50.
Wow, I could have sworn the guy said all claims carried a $50 deductible. I guess I have to go up there and get some documentation. Should I Coding back to stock before turning in my phone?

that depends on who ur turning it into. asurrian doesn't care if u are running a rom, as the only thing running a rom does is void your warranty. and since asurian doesn't deal with warnetees it doesn't matter. sent in my g1 back in the day to them and it was rooted with no problems

[Q] Cracked Screen -- Repair/Replace?

My wife's Rezzie has a cracked screen. Nothing seems to have caused it. All was fine when she put it on the counter. An hour later, it's got cracks running all across it. The digitizer still works. It doesn't appear that any shards have worked loose.
A quick check on eBay shows that used Rezounds are going for around $200. That's not a great deal, since we've got a discounted upgrade available at VZW (though we'd have to extend our contract -- yuk). The phone is off warranty and doesn't have insurance on it any more.
There's an excellent repair place near where we live that can do the work in an hour, but they charge about $175. The parts seem to be available on Amazon for about $30-$50. However, the quality and results for DIY repairs appears to be somewhat mixed, and the process looks to be a bit involved.
So -- do we leave the phone as-is? Try and repair it ourselves? Send it in for repair? Buy a used one? Buy something else? Interested in y'all's thoughts.
Personally, and I say personally cuz I'm good with detail and following instructions, I'd say try to fix it your self if you mess up your out like fifty bucks and have to get a new phone anyways.. but that's just me I just ordered a LCD, digitizer, and tools off eBay for my incredible gonna give it a try my self in few days.

I got my replacement glass/digitizer for $20.
Just be careful to document all your steps if you do it yourself, as I forgot to put the pieces for the capacitive lights back in.

[Q] Water Damaged

Hey folks,
My son dropped my phone down the loo. I put it in a tub of rice for about a week so far, it turns on, but the screen flickers on and off and doesn't react to touch. So wondered if folk had any suggestions or if they've used a repair place for this?
No it's not insured, yes I should have insured it.
Thanks in advance!
Service center is your only option, unless you are confident to buy spares and repair yourself. If you're lucky it might be only the screen needs replacing - otherwise it might be cheaper to buy a new phone.
don't attempt to repair it yourself, it's almost certain that the screen is not the only problem

good advice, cos if you do attempt and say "miss" while putting a screw back in place just one slip and u have...nothing, get a insured pro to do it matey:good:
ps. unless that is you are a pro.

Repairs..

Has anyone had any luck getting this phone repaired out of warranty? Im having a hell of a time finding a place that can/will do repairs on this device, most of them cant even get parts.... The last HTC i had also had a blown speaker.. I was able to order a new speaker on ebay for a few bucks and replace it my self in about 15mins. Obviously not the case with this one
The cost really outweighs the option of the repair. I had my first one 3 days before the screen cracked. Now im not sure about now but the glass alone for the repair was going to cost the retailer 200.00. You could probably buy a newer or new One S off Craigslist or Ebay for less than that. Turn around and sell the broken one to.an.electronics shop for parts. That's what I did. I work for T-Mobile so getting a new one wasn't a problem. There's a guy on here that asked for a donor One S. He is experienced with glues and thinks he can find a way to open it. If he can then a repair may be an option. Most electronics.stores will just say the it was not built to be dismantled and refuse to work on it. Good luck man

Crack suddenly appeared..

Hi everybody. So, I've had my S3 since April.. it was a birthday gift. I love it and baby it as if it were my own child.. yesterday I had taken my Otter Box Commuter case off to take out my battery because my phone had restarted itself, but had been stuck in some odd boot loop. So wah lah, took the battery out and put it back in and Bob's your uncle it fired right up. Normal.. now I've only dropped it twice in the past three months I've had it and well, nothing had happened to it, except for some minor scuffs on the back casing.. yesterday, being the second time I've dropped it, hit the concrete pretty bad but on the back side only.. it may have impacted a corner of the phone though but never flipped on the screen side. Well I immediately put my case on after going back in the house and today, actually just about 30 minutes ago, im just scrolling down my Facebook page and I feel and hear a click sound.. at this point I was just thinking my case had shifted or moved in some way but I started looking at my Facebook again and there is now a crack going from about the middle right side of my screen curving up towards the top left all the way to the bezel of the phone just beside the LED.. Now come on.. I know we all make mistakes, but I didn't really expect my screen to crack this early.. especially for the price I paid for this device. Has anybody had this happen to them before, and if anyone could point me to a good screen replacement place it would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.. ps, the top glass or screen is all that cracked.. The LCD and Digitizer seem to be OK.

There are guides to replace the screen only but it's fairly involved and requires things like heat guns. Obviously it voids warranty but having an international version in US means you probably have no warranty at all.
The unit is often sold with screen but you can buy the glass only but you'd want to get a professional to do it I'd say,
Now when you're asking to recommend a good "Screen replacement place" what do you mean? You want us to recommend a shop? Not really knowing anythign about where you are, it's unlikely we can do that. Any descent repair shop / service centre should be able to help.
Please be aware, the general section is not the place for support threads. Should be in Q&A. I've reported the post to be moved.
I have read about the screen replacement and using a heat gun so yes I will have somebody who knows what they're doing get ahold of it. Do you know any long term effects of using a phone with a cracked screen are? Like other damages that could occur? Besides the glass cracking even more than it already is.. Thanks for the reply though, and sorry about the post in the wrong area..

Theres a digitiser under the glass somewhere so it's possible to pierce that after some time if the glass gives. It's obviously weaker now. I would definitely recomend getting it changes ASAP.
Alright . Thanks for the suggestions.
