Hey folks,
My son dropped my phone down the loo. I put it in a tub of rice for about a week so far, it turns on, but the screen flickers on and off and doesn't react to touch. So wondered if folk had any suggestions or if they've used a repair place for this?
No it's not insured, yes I should have insured it.
Thanks in advance!
Service center is your only option, unless you are confident to buy spares and repair yourself. If you're lucky it might be only the screen needs replacing - otherwise it might be cheaper to buy a new phone.
don't attempt to repair it yourself, it's almost certain that the screen is not the only problem

can't FU**ING believe it...just dropped my phone!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Result = phone works, but screen is SMASHED, in a big way!!!
ARRGHHHHH....can't belive it.
Had it in a nice protector as well - it hit the concrete, protector came off, split in 3 bits and screen totally wiped out, smashed....gutted.
I'm on orange contract, didn't pay for any extra insurance, but only had the phone for just under 3 months....will i be able to get it replaced for free????
If not, can someone please, pretty please recommend a good site etc on where I can buy a new screen?>??
do I buy just the screen or have to buy other bits??
any help would be sooooo much appreciated.
thnaks

Grim!
I would not recommend you buying a screen and installing it your self, not unless your very handy, but this will void your warranty.
I would send it to HTC service centre (have a look on the web) and get it repaired professionally.
It will cost you around 150 quid but will still be warrantied.
I dropped mine, screen was fine but the underneath didnt work.
Sent it to the repair center, may cost like 100-150 but I know it will be done properly
im not claiming to have any experience fittin a hd2 screen, but i have fitted a lg cookie lcd screen replacement when i dropped my old phone, and its easier to replace than you might think.
In the lg cookie (touch screen as well) it is a bit trickey, but as long as you write down where the cables went, (there was about 3) then its just a simple case of re-connecting the ribbon cable to the screen.
Not as hard as you might think, just open it up and have a look.
Yes the warrenty might void, but how often do phones just decide to break on there own anyway??

seems decent, somes with a pry tool and the correct screwdriver to get it open.
Just make sure you dont get any dust on it when your fitting it! lol
Just in case if you want to repair it yourself, look at the assembling and disassembling training video from HTC.
You can find them here at least you will know which tools to use and which order has to be followed.
and here you can download the complete service manual
Update = my House insurance is paying for a brand new phone..hehehe.
Well, not yet, but got a nice cheque off them for £450.
WAS tempted to look at the HTC Desire...but..NAHH...just can't resist the HD2.
Or should I wait for the HD3>????
what would you do??
cheers

So... I fumbled my phone today.... and I have a hairline crack down my screen.
Has anyone tried replacing the screens of these things so far? Know if it can be done/how easily? Where to get a new screen? Thanks guys... This is so sad!
I'm not sure where to get a repair but be wary of cell repair shops. There was a post not too long ago where someone went to a cell repair shop and the damaged SAMOLED screen was replaced with a regular LCD screen. I think warranty, insurance or Samsung might be the first places to check.
Well I bought the phone over craigslist... I think I may just try and buy another. :/
I'm working a couple shifts at a local restaurant this week. Worst case, 2-3 night's tips gets me a new phone. A local vibrant dev/modder hangs out there a lot, I'll let him look at it for me.

I think I'll give replacing the display a go. Anyone know a good website to buy one from?
Guys,
I have a situation here.. My dell Streak fell down and broke my screen, i called dell warranty and told about it and they said pay 300 usd and get it replaced.. buy i have already ordered my screen from Ebay.. Suddenly my ear piece speaker stopped working.
I don't want to mess things anymore and having to replace them myself. So since my earpiece is not working, should i send the phone to dell so that they might replace the whole phone since screen is broken?
or call them back and say screen broke in my pocket and get a new replacement????
Awaiting suggestions guys.. really need some help here...
Thanks,
Raj
I doubt the glass would break in your pocket, so, if its under warranty, get them to fix the earpiece for you, then when it returns, you can invalidate the warranty replacing the screen yourself.

Well .. i had my Streak 5 in my pocket and when i sat down one time, the lcd broke. It didn't get any bumps and it did not fall down. And warranty doesn't replace it.
The irony is that on the box it says "Pocket friendly (tm)" ..

I am not surprised its possible, best thing to do, put your beloved in a Otterbox Commuter or Defender.
I sent in my Atrix a while back because of a dead spot in the digitizer. It came back with a new digitizer and seemed fine until the screen started coming up on the edges. It's almost like they didn't put the adhesive down good enough. I got tired of the screen coming up like it did (Felt spongy and annoying to use) so I got a tag from a shirt and stuck the corner of it into the mic and went all the way around until the screen was free. I put in little drops of super glue to hold the screen down, but I somehow screwed up the ribbon cable and the digitizer no longer works. I checked to see if I could send it in again but it's completely out of warranty. Is there any way I can blame it on them and get them to fix it even if it's out of warranty? Or am I just going to have to buy a digitizer and do it myself? Thanks.

Once you tried to repair it yourself your warranty was gone. Best bet is to order new parts and pay a pro to install.. unless you would like to try it yourself.

you say its 'compltely out of warranty'... are you referring to the warranty running out or the fact you've attempted self-repair?
If you mean that the warranty has run out, the repair that moto did has a seperate warranty and you could try sending it back (conveniently forgetting your bodge job).

ATT gives you 90 days or the previous warranty time, whichever is longer when you do a warranty return / repair.
if your going to attempt self repair get a digitizer with the bezel already attached, I don't want to think about scraping the digitizer off that is attached with superglue.
Hey guys,
the other day heavy rain caught me up on the street, thus my phone was all wet.
It rang, I took it in my hands and it slipped away, and so my rear back glass got broke.
Now I'm looking for replacement, please do not send me to sony service, they're gonna have it for weeks and gonna charge me very much.
Does anyone know where can I get oem replacement for it?
Does this look good to you? http://www.eb

If not, can you suggest me where to look for it?
And what about water proofing after that? Any chance of having it back?
Regards!

That ebay link will probably be your best bet.
I would just worry that replacements are knock-off and plastic.
Waterproofing can probably be had if the same adhesive seems to be used and the back seems original. Would I throw my phone in the pool afterwards? Probably not...:silly:

I'll give ebay a try, thanks mate for suggestion, even now I've never tried my water proof phone, didn't have any need or even courage, but I hope its gonna be at least splash proof.

It seems to me that have no logo on their plates, and they are out of stock for as long as I've been following them,
so I decided to go for this one
opinions?
did anyone try the above link?
It looks promising but did any one tried the link above and whether it's exatly what's given in picture. I tried eBay but it did not carry nfc antenna in it(I've damaged my nfc while removing back), also xperia logo looked fake on one I ordered.
Any suggestions for where to get exactly original part.
