Hey there,
I'm considering this phone and was wondering if there is any way to remove or deactivate the cheesy LG stuff...I understand that by rooting an Android phone I can remove extra apps, but what about customizations like the Home menu at the bottom? In a review of an HTC Android phone (and indeed on my current HTC Diamond 2), the funky Sense interface is just a switch away from being disabled if I so desire...is that also possible on LG phones?
Thanks in advance!
You can easily install Launcher Pro or ADW Launcher or anything else and you get rid of the LG Interface.
No root needed!

You can install a new home if you want. Launcher Pro is nice and it also allows you to hide unwanted apps from the launcher so you don't have to remove them.

Hi! Honestly I've browsed through and have not found any specific information for this question, so I just made a new post. I am wondering if there is a way to modify the default buttons at the bottom without using a launcher? I used ADW and GO and it seems to really slow down my phone even though i'm not really running a lot of aps. I do not use a text message modifier or anything just the launcher and a default skin. I am using the Ap Animated Widgets instead of the default box by box. I am wondering if there is a HTC Sense modifier instead of having to use a complete "home make-over Ap" ? I hope this make sense. I just want to clarify I'm not talking about a theme.. I'm talking about changing the default buttons i.e the arrow up, phone and personalize button that stays at the bottom if you are just in the default HTC launcher. OR if there is a trick to running a launcher without it absudly wearing down the phone. (i.e aps are slow loading with the launcher but without they are fine.) Yes, this is for the HTC Thunderbolt on VZ. Thanks!

^^there's some skins for your phone. That may be the thing you didn't want. But if your trying to change the functions of the dock bar, you can try this.

If you don't like that, you would have to have root, or go with the replacement launchers.
You can make your phone run faster by altering the animations, smooth scrolling, 3d app drawer, etc.

Hey all,
I have recently installed ADW Launcher EX in order to set my tablet up using the Hubs philosophy. Looks great so far, but the one thing I did like was the favorites shortcut in the status bar on the stock sony launcher. I would like to add it somewhere, but it won't let me add it, probably because it is some kind of hidden system app.
Does anyone know how to add these hidden system apps to homescreens or wherever without need root access or a custom rom?

Without some serious dev work, it looks to me like this is not possible. It seems to be a part of the stock launcher from what I can tell. You might be able to write a non-launchable app that just launches the Favourites, but that would only work if they had any public Intents built-in.
Not too sure, since I'm at work and can't check right now, but thats just my thoughts.
Thanks,
I had thought as much. I actually don't mind the sony stock launcher, just wish I could create shortcuts that can jump to certain screens like in ADW launcher. I'm sure if I rooted, I could find some way to access that applications independently, but I don't really want to go that route with my tablet. My phone was enough lol
Hi Guys,
I am looking at a good way to hide apps from the list. I want the apps to be able to run (like Email) and do the sync, but not to display the icons in the list. I have seen that ICS comes with a "Disable" function for system apps, but it doesn't work for me because it also prevents the app from running.
I also want a way to launch the apps myself (through a hidden menu or command) at will.
I have tried things like Application Protection, which allows you to password protect the apps you want. However, since the icons are still there, it is still tempting for my kind to click and ask for the password.
Thoughts?

Hi Mr. Indigo,
Where do I get the latest version of HeLauncher? What are other similar ones?
Will that change the UI of my phone? I love stock ICS UI..

Yes, will.
My friend installed on my phone. But you can found another launcher who does the same thing. Then, go to Settings -> Applications -> Quick Start and see the shortcut!

Thank you. I found the Apex Launcher, and that is accomplishing what I need. (A mix of hiding apps + launching apps through gestures).
GoLauncher also supports the hiding feature.
For running the app even though it is hidden you can put them on a (home)screen or folder before you hide them from the app launcher. They will of course still be there after you hid these apps from the launcher.
Have fun! :victory:
hi
is there anyway to do above without launcher?
i mean hide them while they also keep running but not using launcher?
Remember the Itching Thumb launcher for Android? It was a WebOS-esque home screen launcher which could manage all running applicatiobs, in a simple UI. Searching the internet returns the odd dysfunctional APK. Is there an updated/equivalent app which does this reilably on Android 4.4.4 KitKat or similar recent version?
Fancy Switcher and Switchr both have modes that look a bit like that.
I'm preferably looking for a home launcher...

I was preferably looking for a home screen launcher, which would do this, rather than an app which is launched via gestures.(Much like itching thumb) -- Do you know lf any apps which do this?
I've never seen a launcher that does that on Android, but if I'm not mistaken, you can configure Fancy Switcher/Switchr to only activate when your launcher is open.
Thanks
I'll keep on looking, but it is indeed a shame that such an app isn't presently available.
Does anyone know of a way to lock the stock launcher desktop. I know I can change launchers that have that feature. But I want to keep stock.
Thanks

Yes, Nova has this feature - - which is great for friends with fumble fingers.
Why keep stock launcher when Nova has that, and more, like icon packs, shadows under icons, different transitions, landscape movement across screens...
I can see keeping stock firmware instead of custom ROM, but keeping stock launcher? Come on, don't be silly.

I just want to keep it things simple as possible and fast. But your prolly right will try the launcher again.
EDIT: I remember why I couldn't switch. I can't use LG widgets with Nova launcher. So I'm trading one thing for another. I can live without desktop lock for now.

OK. I have tons several widgets - - including a fantastic weather one called Beautiful Widgets, as well as calendar, so I've never used stock OEM widgets, whether Motorola or LG.

At one time I remembered there used to be an option in Google play store to not add apps to desktop. I can't find it anymore. Odd

You need to use shortcut master and go into the LG Home hidden settings
*Edit: now I can't find the setting I thought was there to look the launcher down to however you have it. So play at your own risk. Will post pics of what I meant below.
Shortcut Master, system apps, LG home, Hidden settings...
