It just dawned on me now that I am using Launcher Pro that when I long press, I no longer get the option to add a Samsung Widget to my home screen.
Any way around this?
... other than just going back to stock launcher ?
Nope. The Samsung widgets are part of TouchWiz.

So are many other elements of the device (notification panel, different contacts app, etc etc etc). Using another launcher app does not disable Touchwiz as a whole, its just a new launcher. The widgets are still <i>there</i> I'm just not able to get to them right now, so I'm hoping maybe someone is able to yank the APK or something so we're able to use them in non-default launchers.
They were written to be recognized and used by the Touchwiz launcher, they're not compatible with the ASOP launcher which is why they won't show up with other launchers. HTC Sense widgets have the same issue, and aside from completely rebuilding them, they haven't really found a way around it.

um, no they're not. As I am using the LauncherPro Beta right now. The notification panel is stock, the contact is stock everything is stock except the dock bar at the bottom, which is different and better and the drawer which Is 3D!!! I love it.

That is exactly what I was saying.
Using a different launcher (i.e. LaunderPro) does not "disable TouchWiz" and therefore you should still be able to use the TouchWiz widgets. Everything else is still there and TouchWiz is most definitely still there, running, etc... changing the Launcher is not disabling TouchWiz.

it does disable touchwiz. touchwiz is the launcher app. so when your not in touchwiz, you don't have it.
just like unless your on the sense home, you don't get the sense widgets.
the touchwiz widgets require the touchwiz launcher.
don't bother asking or repeating again because there is simply no way to make it work short of rebuilding the entire app as has been said.
Touchwiz and the touchwiz launcher are two different things.
You cannot "disable touchwiz" without flashing a custom rom. It IS the modified OS.
You are right that the widgets are built into the twlauncher apk, so you can't use them in any other launcher.
Let's be sure we aren't confusing touchwiz with twlauncher...
touchwiz is a skin on top of the android os just like sense is.......you disable the touchwiz launcher then everything associated with touchwiz is disabled only giving access to basic android widgets.
Oh lawrdy, the fighting...
When I was using launcher pro I couldn't use samsung widgets, but the apps were unaffected.. So just disabling touchwiz launcher disables the widgets (or makes them harder to use at least) but the apps with the phone (including the notification bar) keep going...
So even if you just disable the launcher, you lose the widgets (unless they are just hiding because the samsung widget button was gone and they weren't in my regular widget are either)
im no dev here and my coding knowledge is minimal so sorry if i sound stupid saying this, but if the twlauncher is integrated to the framework, couldnt someone use a modify a launcher replacement by kanging some code from the twlauncher so the launcher replacement utilizes the framework or is it much more complicated than that?

If I'm understanding you correctly then yes it is that simple, but figuring out how to do that is not simple without the code...

Okay ladies Ill explain all lol, disabling the touchwiz launcher does in no way effect the widgets but you cannot use them in other launchers because they are not programmed to recognize them touchwiz itself is the custom framework that samsung has created for this phone, so if a dev enabled it you could use them in any launcher as long as the system/framework/twframework.jar and twframework-res.apk are there along with some key files in the sytem/lib folder to associate them to the system so really the launcher is nothing but a pretty blind over the window if you will and in no way stops you from using the widgets other than the other launchers are not programmed to look for them.
Hi all,
n00b questions here. Basically, I'm trying to figure out what exactly Rosie and Launcher Pro are.
I downloaded Launcher Pro (the free version) from the Market last night and see that it basically changes the layout of the home screen and icons and such. Seems fairly customizable, and you can also change transition effects between home screens. It also changes the buttons on the bottoms on the bottom of the home screen, sort of like a "quick launch" as seen in Windows. Is there anything else I'm missing?
I'm mainly confused about what Rosie is. I've installed some Roms that include Rosie, but I have no idea what it does or how to use it. The only thing I've seen is that there was a Rosie button on the bottom right of my home screen, which would open up one app that I assign that button to. And when I go into the Rosie settings from my app drawer, the only thing I can change is what program that one button opens. I think I'm missing something here, but Rosie seems pointless.
Also, is it worth it buying the paid version of Launcher Pro? Or do some custom ROMs include a mod of launcher pro that you don't need to pay for?
Thanks!
Rosie is what the sense launcher you got when you got your phone.
Launcherpro is basically just another home, which will replace rosie if you decide to make it your default home. No Roms will include the paid version of launcherpro and I highly recommend you to buy it to support the dev.

Thanks for the info.
Is Launcher Pro generally considered better than Rosie and what most seasoned Android users would use?

It's all about preference. Launcher Pro is very easily customized while Rosie is pretty much the same on every device (albeit there are differences with each Sense version). Launcher Pro is a lot leaner because it doesn't come with all that Sense baggage and I prefer it to other home replacements when using AOSP roms.

It's all really what you like and don't. LP is very nice and cinfigurable, bit its all in personal preference.
There are also a few other launchers out there worth checking out.
SPB Shell 3D
ADW EX
Regina
Zeam
GO Launcher
QuickDesk
Just need to pick the best one for you & your needs.
I use Go launcher. Has the quick launch bar on the bottom nice features and its free. Be aware you cant use sense widgets with an aftermarket launcher
I also use Go Launcher EX, was using Zeam but needed something more customizable.
But as stated before.... It's your preference
is there a way to modify Rosie to allow changes to the 3 icons on the bottom of the launcher? switch out the personalize icon for handcent?
is there a way to remove pages from the rosie launcher?
I love the profiles feature that senseui brings but I hate the fact that you only get two dock buttons. Are there any launchers that are as robust as sense or GO Launcher that also offer profiles?
LauncherPro paid version is definitively worth it.
I use Go launcher, but adw too good
Hello there. I wonder if there app available to sort application by name in Optimus UI launcher? Like Appzorter for Touchwiz.
I'd rather not install another launcher, but if that's the only way, I'm open to suggestion. In the past I use Go Launcher, but feel it quite "heavy" on system resources (on my old Galaxy Ace).

You can sort it manually. Otherwise you will have to use another launcher.

That is my biggest annoyance with the LG launcher.
Bummer.
Right now I'm using Nova Launcher with Touchwiz theme I feel it quite fast. For weather I'm using Yahoo! Weather. Still trying to find free calendar widget like one built in.
Em, right touch button and reset, I think it will sort app by name.

That does sort them. It sorts alphabetically the built in apps first. Then after that alphabetically the downloaded apps.
It is a little better, but it would be nice to have all of them mixed together in alphabetical order. Can't have everything we want.
Hi guys!
As the thread title says, what do you use as your Launcher on YB Android?
Stock one works, but I am curious to see if anyone here used a different launcher. I am tempted to try out Leena or Sentio to replicate that netbook/PC look.
Installed the Arrow launcher a couple of days ago and am in the process of getting used to it. So far so good especially for the just released tablet version. A decent review (of the phone version) that was done before the last update can be found here:
http://www.androidcentral.com/microsofts-arrow-launcher-astonishingly-good
Cool! Will have a look!
Tried Squarehome 2 for that Surface look..and I think I'll stick with it for a while as its the closest to a usable notebook environment..
Sentio is good, just doesn't load automatically while Leena needs a lot of improvement (like desktop icon sizes can't be resized independently of the font)..
I use Apex Launcher on all my android stuff.
It's hard to find launcher that properly support landscape tablet layouts.
The best I've found were ADW launcher 2 and Arrow launcher (it has a new tablet option).
In the end I went back to the stock Lenovo launcher.
Apex does work good on tablet landscape mode, plus we can change icons and layout plus gestures as well..

What permissions does this Apex has? Has any one thought about what kind of data these launchers steal?
I use Nova Launcher across all my Android devices (phones & tablets). Zero problems.
Does any launcher has the 'back, home, apps' icons grouped towards the left corner of the task bar, like the stock launcher? Its convenient.
2 Similar to the stock launcher, do they show the running apps icon in the task bar?
I try leena desktop UI from play store ( https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=de.m_lang.leena) it's fine but not perfect.
I tried Microsoft Launcher, and it seems to work for me. The new tablet implementation got better, and also looks nice without having to spend a lot of time customizing it.
I use LaunchTime an open launcher from fdroid open android apps. works well for 6" and larger screens
https://f-droid.org/packages/com.quaap.launchtime/
Squarehome 2
YB with other android launchers.

I currently have multiple launchers installed on my YB, including Sentio Launcher. I am using Go Launcher HD as my primary, but Microsoft Launcher and Square Home.Tablet also work fine.
I am using Nova Launcher as I do on the majority of my devices. It is clean and gives mena nice dock for the media consumption apps I use most frequently.

Nice looking setup you got there!
I also use Nova for most of my devices (if not for the Yoga book, it should have been All devices)..Nova can achieve any look you'd want to have easily, too!

Question - how did you get rid of the Lenovo app drawer icon in the bottom left next to the recent app icon? I've been dying to try and figure that out.

Mark, had to think about this one for a minute and then realized the answer was in the screen shot itself.
Short answer: Can't be doe
Rationale: In the top right hand corner of the display, you can see the icon indicating that the screen shot was taken while having the tablet in "laptop mode". While in laptop mode, the app launcher icon disappears because you have the dedicated key on the keyboard to get to the app launcher. It would be a redundancy to have both. I tried it out and as soon as the tablet is in either tent mode or display/tablet mode, the app launcher shortcut re-appears.
Its also a custom version of Android MM, and most of the system UI tweaks don;t work.
I actually did find a way - I installed this app - https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=xyz.paphonb.systemuituner
It did the trick! I am very happy that it did.
Does anyone know of a way to lock the stock launcher desktop. I know I can change launchers that have that feature. But I want to keep stock.
Thanks

Yes, Nova has this feature - - which is great for friends with fumble fingers.
Why keep stock launcher when Nova has that, and more, like icon packs, shadows under icons, different transitions, landscape movement across screens...
I can see keeping stock firmware instead of custom ROM, but keeping stock launcher? Come on, don't be silly.

I just want to keep it things simple as possible and fast. But your prolly right will try the launcher again.
EDIT: I remember why I couldn't switch. I can't use LG widgets with Nova launcher. So I'm trading one thing for another. I can live without desktop lock for now.

OK. I have tons several widgets - - including a fantastic weather one called Beautiful Widgets, as well as calendar, so I've never used stock OEM widgets, whether Motorola or LG.

At one time I remembered there used to be an option in Google play store to not add apps to desktop. I can't find it anymore. Odd

You need to use shortcut master and go into the LG Home hidden settings
*Edit: now I can't find the setting I thought was there to look the launcher down to however you have it. So play at your own risk. Will post pics of what I meant below.
Shortcut Master, system apps, LG home, Hidden settings...
