Latest Update removed some apps - Optimus One, P500, V General

I own an LG Optimus P500. The version I bought was a neverlocked version (or so I've been told). The original application pack included, among others : Layar,
CarHome , LG App Advisor, Back-up Utility.
After updating to the latest avaialable version (the one that brings the Android version to 2.2.1), Layar, CarHome, App Advisor and others disappeared. Further more, the SIM Toolkit App (the one that lists the available services) has been renamed to Vodafone, although Orange is my wireless provider and the phone didn't show any sign of previous Vodafone branding.
Could it be because the update was destined to a wider array of devices (including Vodafone branded ones that never really had Layar &the rest of the apps).

Nothing on the subject ?
Not that it matters, I was simply wondering.

I've filed a small complaint mail to LG with my problem. Quite surprinsgly, they called me on the spot and explained to me the next:
-Eastern Europe (Romania in particular) versions are meant to be sold with Vodafone only. The firmware updates for this area are destined for Vodafone locked phones and are developed with Vodafone's input.
-The disappeared apps were seen as ''previously installed''.
-The Vodafone name for the SIM Toolkit stems from the same source.

How to get US version of android market?

I am currently located in Turkey and bought an S2 here locally since my iphone4 was locked to att.
However the android market only has free apps. This is very frustrating. ( I also have an HTC incredible which is running the full android market but my s2 isnt).
My question is, Can I flash an European or american rom to get the US android market? (perhaps a way to change csc).

Try market enabler from the market...
I usually do a few workarounds to get all my apps:
1. Try Market Enabler over 3g, not sure if it works on wifi I get better results over 3g.
2. Install Hotspotshield free on your PC to fake a US IP on your PC, or better do it over a US real ip (some businesses like where I work have US ip connections). Then try to install apps via Android market web page (in combination with step 1 it should recognize your phone as Tmobile i9100 for instance).
3. Change your credit card billing address to a US one (just took me 5 minutes over the phone with my credit card company but not sure if its legal in all countries).
4. Use an alternative market like GetJar. I have been able to find many apps there that I cant get through the market, plus they usually have freebies (for instance Tune In radio Pro is free right now). GetJar is legit and safe but sometimes can get slow updating apps as it depends on the deals they have with the developers.
This way I can purchase from B&N, use Hulu or update google maps, youtube, etc.
When everything fails I usually copy the apk from a friends phone or there is always the mediafire option but you might not want to go that far
Also you might want to visit developers pages as sometimes they accept paypal (like Poweramp).
I already have US credit cards (again only studying here abroad).
So I cant just flash another rom? This has to be software based because my HTC incredible's market works fine (there sitting right next to each other on the SAME wifi network)
Install Market Enabler from the android market. It's free so should be there.
what is the point of having regions for the market ????
i have no idea why Google does that

[Q] Difference between firmware images?

I'm a recent Lumia 800 owner and impatient for updates. With the availability of 8107.11501 from DPM (downloaded OK) I might give it a go. Perhaps someone could tell me the difference between, say, a UK image and a DE image? And what difference is there between a Cyan and Black image?
Thanks.

There are not so much differences.
1) Some countries have very specific apps bundled (example: switzerland has a train schedule app)
2) Some countries don't have all nokia apps preinstalled. Example: HK version is missing nokia drive, nokia music, and so on.
3) The default Language after first boot may be different. Example: the Netherlands ROM starts with the NL Language by default. You can change it.
Otherwise the ROM are identical and you can easily add\remove missing or unneeded apps from marketplace app, so what is really important is the firmware version
4) Avoid far east ROMs, they usually don't have nokia drive, that is the only app that you can't install later from marketplace
The difference between colours are related to default theme colours and i guess some camera software settings to balance the effects of phone colour on the pictures you take.
Thank you for a very complete explanation.
Which Country Variant ROM is having all the apps that are preloaded like Nokia Drive, Nokia Maps, Nokia Mix ????
UK has them.
Well, not Nokia Mix, because that doesn't exist... I presume you're referring to the Mix Radio function of Nokia Music?

My unbranded UK version came loaded with Nokia Music, Nokia Maps, and a place marker for Nokia Drive. I had to go to the market place to actually get Nokia Drive installed.
It also came with a bunch of other special apps unique to Nokia. I removed many of them.
Mine had drive pre-installed, wonder why yours only had a marker. But yes there was also some stuff that was instantly removed.

When I went to open Nokia Drive, it loaded a page telling me to get it from the Marketplace. Odd.

[Q] what about apps when changing from x10 to xps

Hi,
When I change to xps, what about the apps (from market) that are installed on my x10?
Will they stay available through the market so I can reinstall them on the new phone? Especially the paid ones.
It will be my first switch, and preparing myself for the moment the xps is available in Belgium
Everything you've bought in the market is linked to your login details. Changing phones is lovely and easy, you can even have the apps on more than one device with the same login.
Only thing to watch out for is some paid apps may need deactivating or unregistering on the old device first. The only one I had like this was Copilot sat nav which only allowed you to install it on one device at a time. I think the new version doesn't do this anymore although I'm not 100% sure.

[Q&A] Everything about firmware [...]8773.12220

Like most of you (I guess) I forced my Lumia to update to firmware version : 1750.0805.8773.12220 [Everything Everywhere]
A really good update, minor improvements to battery consumption, WiFi Tethering, etc..
But I was expecting to get the new location alert icon, which is not there (not dramatical I know, but it's supposed to come with Tango so it's kinda weird).
Visual Vioce Mail is still not coming back neither (yes I said coming back because I had it when I bought my Lumia and it's gone with updates).
My question are : Is there anyone who got the new location icon ?
Someone have intel about Visual Voice Mail on our Lumias ? I saw yesterday that with WP7.8 it will be country specific and for all with WP8
Thanks

Location icon still the same; I do have visual voicemail.
I think visual voicemail is also controlled by the carrier. T-Mobile is a very big on that feature, so all their platforms have it ..
Orange France support visual voicemail too, but it disapeared when I first updated my phone through Nokia Care Suite.
And it's activated for my number (which is problematic because I have no more notifications for my voicemails).
I'll try find a way.
I downgraded to a branded FW then applied CAB updates and get back my visual voicemail.
I guess the new icon will be in the next 8779 OS update
Whats New?
So I'm running the latest 8773, much thanks to XDA for that
But other than the hotspot what is new, my phone looks distinctly the same, I understand I may be able to run more tasks in the background but is there anything else? Anything I can find on my phone and go 'ah thats neat'?
