[Q] htc video player to play .avi files - HD2 Windows Mobile 6.5 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

hey everyone,
i've been searching the web for a while now and couldnt find out if there is a patch or something for htc video player to support .avi files.
its really important to me as i tend to watch movies on my hd2 a lot.
but tcpmp is not a great option, it kinda lowers the quality of the videos and kinda sucks.
IF there is a way to play .avi files, IT WOULD BE SO AWESOME, it has hardware acceleration and all.
thanks in advance.

In a word, no. The HTC video player won't answer your problems.
Setting up TCPMP correctly, however, will solve your problems.
Have a look at the following post and try setting up TCPMP/CorePlayer as suggested. It makes a world of difference!

The HD2 does support AVI. see thread and go to multimedia.
http://www.htc.com/uk/product/hd2/specification.html
But you must be using DivX AVI, or Xvid AVI... for HD2 use AVI MSMPEG4-V3 (*.avi) this works for movies. You can download a video converter via Google

Or he could read the answer above which will solve all his problems without converting a single file

Video Player that works!
If you are running Android on HD2 then take a look at this forum;

divx and other good codecs

hi guys,
unfortunately there is no up2date thread in these forums bout this topic and i am also not sure whether there are news..
so, any1 knows when some kind of software will be released to play normal avi, divx, xvid, mpeg and so on?
Strange that we've still not had anything along these lines coded up yet.
I'm sure it's just a matter of time, hopefully when the official kernels get released.
Maybe then coding will be more 'open' than it currently is on the Hero platform.
http://coreplayer.com/content/view/28/69/
And we all know what CorePlayer did for the WinMo platform right?
I'm surprised its taking so long to create divx codecs for android...
on my nokia n80 i was able to play divx files, and it didtn have the half of cpu power compared to hero. dont know what these fuc*ers doing there!
DivX is a mpeg-4 encoder, and the hero can play back mpeg-4. You probably are using some older version of divx that did not produce standards-compliant video files or you put your mpeg-4 in a container that the video player on the hero can't read.

The container is AVI - Android does not support AVI containers. That being said, I did encode a file using Handbrake using MPEG4 (XviD) in an MP4 container and my Hero would only play the audio not the video, whereas it worked fine as H264 in MP4.

YES this is a serious issue...why hasnt any gud media codec software arrived in the market yet??

coreplayer have removed their announcement of upcoming app for iphone and android. so maybe they're releasing in the next days somethin nice, hope so, because at the moment the situation really sucks
At least they are working on it

Question, why do you want divx capability when it can do h.264?
coz u dont have to convert those videos then!!
just put them in and play them directly on ur HERO!
All mobile devices, play video better when its encoded to the screens resolution, I do hope you are doing this. iTunes does it for you but I use Handbrake. when scaling the vid down, change it to h.264 and your on
+
If you still have divx files then you need to get better vids, HD MKV files are the only way to fly.

and where do you find 32+GB microSDHC memory cards for those vids...
What I mean is, you take a 4GB 720p hd mkv and shrink it to 480x320 and then put that on the hero, works fine.

Video Player

It's possible to play video on this device? How can I convert my video files to files which x8 understand?
It can take mp4 for sure : I have 2 videos in "/sdcard/video/"
You can try RockPlayer - Plays all divx videos so no need for convert the files at all the player is really great app and you can get it for free from the android market. I watch two movies both more then 2 hours long for a 50% battery so the player is great.
It looks like slideshow with software decoding, it's not works with hardware decoding.
It not play all avi formats well but works great for some if you have time to find out what format works on that phone but i Watch for example Fight Club on this and was nice and smooth also watch some Shows on it and it works great for that it`s very useful when you are at the bus or at the train and have time to kill.
When connected to the computer, download MediaGo from PC companion. It converts audio and video to x8 format, as well as adding it to the device.

yup. just use the media go from SE. it automatic convert the media file to match the hardware decoding. its an extra work but worth doing. to save some memory.

Cannot setup Media Go on my windows 7 x64 corporate. Fail while installing MS Visual C++ 2005 Redistributable package.
I use Avidemux GTK app on Ubuntu. Just use "auto->PSP" settings. it makes files that x8 decodes in hardware.
My favourite video playing app is arcMedia.
It is capable to handle largest video files thanks for video buffering.
But It is not working since I rooted my 2.1 with original rom.
Anybody knows why?
The problem is app2sd. arcMedia doesn't support app2sd yet.
I really wait for the update because you don't have to convert video files with it.
arcMedia plays normal xvid videos smoothly like desktop computers.
My pre-isntalled video player can't find any files, even those which i've recorded with camera. What's the problem?
What's the point of installing video player which can't find video files? for example if some1 buys x8 and don't want to use any of apps from the market, only pre-installed ones. so he can't watch any recorded videos? only getting there through camera app? it's the same with picture review.
Rockplayer v6 vfp version can play video rmvb well, of course, not as well as computer
It all depends on the encoding and the resolution of the files people.
Dont expect to be able to play a full hd avi or mp4 with a 600hz CPU!
Maybe the PSP compatible avi files you can d/l with utorrent work better.
N.
yeah,i would recommend you to convert the videos with Xmedia.(It Supports X8)
Its works everytime on my X8
I use yxplayer2, RockPlayer gives me a lot of erros playing the videos.
I can also say that vital player from market plays divx/xvid with no lag at all, for me it really is the best app of this kind.
to convert videos, try XMedia Recode or Format Factory
I use ImToo Video Ultimate Converter..
choose convert to android specification

there are lots of software players that play almost everything including mov and mpeg
Hi, Ive used RockPlayer quite extensivley and it played nice (even with subtitles) up untill last week when all of a sudden the video lagged awfully. I tried all the other players (yx, qq, arc...) and each and every one of them lags.
Now, Ive updated to the latest x8 software (from the first 2.1 release) and hoped it would help, but playback is the same.
Tried to enable JiT now, but that didnt help.
Any ideas why would something like this happen seemingly out of the blue?
EDIT: I might add that this is all in software mode (even for files that work in hardware mode). Id like software mode to work however because transcoding is kind of a pita job.
EDIT2: Found the culprit. H.264 @300kbps is too much for this phone period. Both xvid and divix play nice even at 1000kbps.

[Q] HDMI video great! but no sound?

I know a lot of you are thinking this has been addressed before but my problem isn't getting the video to play in entertainment center mode but the audio.....
But the thing is that it will only play sound in video's i recorded with my camera.
What im trying to do is play videos that i have taken from my computer and put them onto my ext sd card.
So like i say the video is just fine but it will not play back with audio.
Oh and they are avi and mpeg formats
Any ideas guys and gals?
The Tegra 2 seems to have crappy video/audio codec support. The samsung processor in the captivate I had previously played everything I could throw at it.
Thankfully, the T2 is powerful enough to do some software decoding. Try using various video players. I find that MoboPlayer can run all my HD videos so far.
Also, just because a file is .Divx, .AVI, .mkv.... doesn't mean that it will play. As far as I know, there are different encoding formats and levels for each codec. The T2 seems to be okay with any basic file, but none of the highly processed files such as movie mkv's.
If you try download another programe in market you would can see
But we can't do the dane for media center....so the better you can do for now is convert your vĂdeo tio an old codec

Hmmm what codex is recommended? 3gp or something?

what if i was to flash back to a stock sbf seeing as i'm running gingerblur right now.
would that straighten things out?

did you get any feedback??
I've been using Handbrake and the settings from here:
http://www.knowyourcell.com/motorol...d_transfer_them_to_the_motorola_atrix_4g.html
The only difference is that I like to click the "keep aspect ratio" button in handbrake for the resolution. Tweak as you like, but I've found that if you use the constant quality setting, A/V gets out of sync. Biggest bummer is that I have to encode specifically for the Atrix...can't seem to use my "advanced encoded" videos from my media server. I have taken previously encoded 1080p HD movies back though handbrake with the referenced settings to the Atrix and they play beautifully both in MoboPlayer and the Entertainment Center.

Movie playback with subtitles

Aight guys, I have done a good bit of tinkering but I haven't had much luck yet...
What I'm trying to do is watch a movie on my Streak with subtitles...
I have read several guides and followed the instructions... rip the iso to Video_TS folder and all that jazz, and I even choose the options to include the subtitles with both Xilisoft convertor and also Handbrake... well, I don't see the subtitles, even when I convert the movie having them "burned in" as the option specifies...
Now, I decided to use vplayer because it is supposed to let me choose which subtitles and it hasn't worked either, plus the playback and audio aren't synced...
I will mention this, the native player on my Streak plays the movie just fine, in 4:3 format (no matter what ratio I choose when I convert, using the native android movie player it always plays back in 4:3), although with no subtitles but the audio and video are in sync...
With vplayer, it will playback in the aspect ration it was supposedly converted to, and I can even choose subtitles, but I can't see them on the screen, playback is choppy and not in sync...
Hope I have made myself somewhat clear... any suggestions or pointing me to a definitive guide on maybe how to do what I want would be greatly appreciated....
Thanks guys ahead of time!!!
Vital player
HI there,
Vital player is what I use for such a long time. The only condition to play subtitles, is that they have to have exactly the same name as the movie file, ofcourse in respect with their own extentions.
I gues it plays .sub and .srt subtitle files.
Hope this address your concerns.
Cheers mate,
C

[Q] How to play .MKV files smooth?

Hey there...
I'm new into DNA and HTC. I have some movies in .MKV format. Whem I play them with the regular HTC player they are NOT smooth. I downloaded some Video Players from the Play Store, and I got the same result: I can't play .MKV video files in a smooth way with my DNA. I searched a little bit, and seems to be that HTC only plays .MP4 files and the rest of formats should be converted to MP4.
Is that true? Any experience or suggestion for this problem?
Thanks!

Is your dna rootable? Have you tried mx player?
Unfortunately is not rootable since it has the 2.04 software version. Yeah, I tried MX Player by itself and then try it using the MX Player Codec (ARMv7). But no luck...
Try converting the video and change the file format. That should produce a smoother playback. That's what I do at least.
Sent from my HTC6435LVW using xda premium
In MX Player try using S/W decoding reather than H/W decoding, most of my mkvs work for me that way.
Try MOBOPlayer its free and plays all my videos super smooth, plus has the pop out feature to watch video while like reading for instance. My mkv's are in 720p ac3 stereo 192kbps if that helps. The gpu works best with the MP4 format though with baseline at id say 8000kbps max.. grab something like mediacoder which is free to encode with for testing.
Thanks guys! Using Mobo Player with soft decode solved my problem. Appreciate it guys...
