even before odin?
Pretty certain the voodoo thread indicates going from voo 2 voo is fine.
Disabling is always safer, but perhaps not needed in your case.

Technically not before Odin as one usually has to use Odin to un-brick their phone after flashing with voodoo enabled.
I don't care what it says, voodoo is easy to disable so I would do it every time before flashing anything. No reason to risk going through everything after a soft brick if you can avoid it.
Search the market for Voodoo Toggle if you don't want to type out disable_voodoo in the folder.
^ flashing odin really isn't that hard
I didn't say it was...

+1. Good advice!
Yea it is easy but takes around 20min for me to disable then enable again :/

So it will really disable voodoo if you odin back to stock? I always odin back to stock when flashing a new rom but haven't tried a voodoo.

so technically we don't NEED to disable voodoo if we flash from say... nero v3 to axura 2.2.5.5 since they both have voodoo?
Correct, technically you don't need to disable voodoo if going from v3 to Axura 2.2.5.5 but I would do it anyways. Just me being cautious.

Voodoo is a lag fix. It moves some stuff to your memory card to make your phone run faster.

No, it definitely hasn't moved my stuff to my memory card...
It converts the /data partition on your phone to EXT4, which is a far superior file system than RFS, which the phone would otherwise use. This increases your disc I/O speed and makes the phone run smoother.
So is it better then the lag fix that I have now which is the Ryan lag fix from the app that's on the market. The voodoo is on that app but I'm not sure if its a better one especially that its found in the settings under kernal. And I don't have any knowledge about changing rge kernal.

In order to use the Voodoo lagfix you must have a kernel that is compatible with Voodoo. Voodoo is something that you must read about and research before toying with it. I would suggest you go here and read about it. The OCLF app you are using gives you the option to update your kernel to a Voodoo compatible one and installs the Voodoo lagfix; it will also back up your current Kernel. Hope this helped a little. The only downside of Voodoo is that anytime you want to flash a new ROM or kernel or any flashable zip folder you pretty much need to disable it to prevent damage from occurring.

Lag Fix, PLEASE HELP!!!!!
Hey guys,
Im fairly noob
This is my issue
Bought samsung vibrant i9000m
Unlocked it
Rooted it
NOW i want to lag fix.
So, i update the firmware to froyo 2.2 using kies, everything went fine. Then i installed OCLF, but i always get an error saying that there is not enough space in /data to complete this fix
So, i now know that it is talking about the internal sd. Tried to erase as much as i could, but i could only get to around 815megs free, and according to other posts, i would need at least 1.5 gigs.
Erased everything i could ( apps, samsung default apps that come with 2.2 etc)
Still not enough space
SO.....
Tried to use voodoo
The install process says to simply download the file, put it in the internel sd card`s root and rename it 'update.zip' ( yes made sure it was not update.zip.zip) then reboot in recovery and select ' apply update.zip'.
So i did.
I ALWAYS get this ANNOYING error 'signature verification failed, installation aborted'
At this point i want to smash my phone on the ground...but i didn't, cuz i know someone can help
CONCLUSION: im on froyo 2.2, i want to lag fix with either OCLF OR VOODOO, witch ever can work. Please remember i am still a noob, so i cant really try to flash anything using odin yet...
Baseband: JL2.
PLEASE HELP ME FINALLY LAG FIX THIS PHONE!!!!
A way to get around the signature failing is to download rom manager and boot into recovery mode with clockwork mod. It has an option to not validate the signature and should let you finish.

Heres what i have

froyo 2.2
build: JL2
PLEASE HELP!! im sooo tired of trying soooo many different things and it doesnt seem to work...
If this actually works and someone can give me a step by step, it would be the best x-mas gift!! haha
If I'm on eugenes ginger r2 with voodoo.... can I backup and flash to try nero v2 with voodoo and not disable?
I know what's safe, but I can't see where the problem would lie.
Also, check out Voodoo Toggle in the Market. Amazing app.
Well supercurio if I'm not mistaken mentioned that there its no need to disable it if you go from ext4 to ext4 supported kernel/rom combination. I might be wrong though. ODIN or alternative should always be ready.

I second that notion. I also read that you can go from one voodoo rom to another without disabling voodoo.
Cool. ended up disabling using that app just to be safe...and I didn't have the patience.

That is exactly right.
Worst-Case scenerio, the new rom doesnt have voodoo and you forget to disable,.... you'll get stuck at the boot, and then you will just use ODIN which will overwrite voodoo right?
Seems like there is no disadvantage to voodoo if that's the case.

Also if you brick with voodoo don't you have to odin eugenes froyo that doesn't brick then odin to jfd?

^ really? Seems like any ODIN would work since it overwrites the system.

Actually sometimes ODIN Cannot always fix an EXT4 messup like voodoo when trying to flash a new rom, so just letting you know, it's happened to me.
BTW, I just went from Nero V1 JL4+voodoo to NeroV2+voodoo w/o disabling voodoo the whole flash took a little less than 3 minutes, and there are no bricks on my table

Thats because the newest version of nero is already written with voodoo. To those flashing other roms that are not written with the voodoo kernel and ext4 compatability, disable voodoo prior to flashing your new rom, or else be ready to spend some time with odin.

Would I be able to just get back to cwm and flash another kernel and rom. Or to I completely have to restore back to stock with odin?

IF voodoo is COMPLETELY disabled and you're positive on this you can flash a new ROM, but once again, it's ALWAYS safer to ODIN back to stock before flashing.

If Voodoo is disabled, then flash a different rom/kernel and youll be good to go. Jus dont delete the disable_voodoo file until after youve flashed another kernel.

Im running darkys port w/voodoo. When i try to disable voodoo through red clockwork, linda says " converting data/system partion" then the phone just boots up. It does not actually convert anything, as ive check using "mount" in term.

May not help, but you could try Voodoo Toggle, it is an app in the market.
I did just flash another Voodoo compatible rom and kernel, won't disable. If I odin to get rid of it, I would have to use Eugene's " FROYO that does not brick". Which is a pain in the @ss. The Voodoo toggle no worky. Thanks for the ideas though.

I remember Eugene saying something about this. Some sort of corruption going from stock to Voodoo or vice versa. I can't find it though.

are you trying to disable through cwm or manually adding the voodoo_disable file?
^ Read the OP.
You don't have to use eugenes that doesn't brick... you can, but not sure why you think you are limited to just it? ODIN to stock, root, flash... or use the ALT METHOD in the noob guide.

Try using Galaxy Tuner app and running all 3 Bad Block Checks to see if that's part of the problem, cuz even going back to stock via Odin won't fix bad blocks. Good luck!

Times like this in love xda. Thank you everyone for their suggestions. I finally just flashed from th overstock kernel to tiger blood and it successful disable by manually adding the "disable-lagfix". Apparently the problem is arising from disabling through cwm, atleast for me. Thanks again, and the galxay tuner is really nice.

I am currently running SC 2.9.2 with jt's voodoo kernel. I understand how to disable and re-enable voodoo. My question is if the rom I want to flash is voodoo only should I re-enable voodoo before flashing? Also will it matter if it is enabled or disabled when flashing a new radio or kernel?
I want to use the community rom with the latest voodoo kernel to enable bln, UV, and OC
Thanks in advance for the help!

If you are currently running voodoo then you can just flash the community rom as you are going from voodoo to voodoo. its only an issue when going from voodoo to non voodoo in which you would have to disable voodoo then before flashing a non voodoo rom.

I followed these directions from adrynalyne. It wasnt bad at all.
So many of us are rooted...so many...
Getting to ED01 isn't easy without any radio leak. So, to get to ED01, so you can get yer bran' spankin' new modem!, follow these directions.
First, we will downgrade to DL09.
Do this by flashing this DL09 package in Odin (pda button, pda button, pda button)
http://adrynalyne.us/files/stuff/
Then, download this EA28 update.zip, put it on your sd card, reboot to recovery and flash:
http://www.multiupload.com/F00OYXVO0K
Finally, download this ED01 update.zip put it on your sdcard, and reboot to recovery and flash:
http://www.multiupload.com/LPI21AP8TD
Then, flash whatever the latest and great cwr 2.5.x is (I've not kept track.) Do not use cwr 3.x for now, imo. You can then flash one of the stock rooted roms, or root yourself via flashing a super user package from cwr.
Good luck!
Note: Keep in mind that once you Odin CWR to ED01, you MUST also flash a kernel, or rom containing a kernel to replace the stock one, or it will revert you.
Boot first to CWR after Odin, and install Community Rom v1.0 as it contains a kernel
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1044474
Yeah thats what I was reading going to give EC01 a shot with the community mod first and see how that works out first seems a lot of people are thinking they are similar
yeah not much different at all. I just went to ed01 as i was wiping anyhow and his directions we straight forward but try ec01 then community v1.0 then you can flash v1.2
Thats what I'm going to do hopefully an odin ED01 package comes out I have a feeling EC01 will hold me over until then
Thanks for the help much more confident using voodoo
