Question regaurding voodoo - Fascinate Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I am currently running SC 2.9.2 with jt's voodoo kernel. I understand how to disable and re-enable voodoo. My question is if the rom I want to flash is voodoo only should I re-enable voodoo before flashing? Also will it matter if it is enabled or disabled when flashing a new radio or kernel?
I want to use the community rom with the latest voodoo kernel to enable bln, UV, and OC
Thanks in advance for the help!

If you are currently running voodoo then you can just flash the community rom as you are going from voodoo to voodoo. its only an issue when going from voodoo to non voodoo in which you would have to disable voodoo then before flashing a non voodoo rom.

What radio are you running currently? The kernel that is included in the community rom will turn on voodoo but to be safe you can always enable it so that you are sure its enabled.

I followed these directions from adrynalyne. It wasnt bad at all.
So many of us are rooted...so many...
Getting to ED01 isn't easy without any radio leak. So, to get to ED01, so you can get yer bran' spankin' new modem!, follow these directions.
First, we will downgrade to DL09.
Do this by flashing this DL09 package in Odin (pda button, pda button, pda button)
http://adrynalyne.us/files/stuff/
Then, download this EA28 update.zip, put it on your sd card, reboot to recovery and flash:
http://www.multiupload.com/F00OYXVO0K
Finally, download this ED01 update.zip put it on your sdcard, and reboot to recovery and flash:
http://www.multiupload.com/LPI21AP8TD
Then, flash whatever the latest and great cwr 2.5.x is (I've not kept track.) Do not use cwr 3.x for now, imo. You can then flash one of the stock rooted roms, or root yourself via flashing a super user package from cwr.
Good luck!
Note: Keep in mind that once you Odin CWR to ED01, you MUST also flash a kernel, or rom containing a kernel to replace the stock one, or it will revert you.
Boot first to CWR after Odin, and install Community Rom v1.0 as it contains a kernel
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1044474

Yeah thats what I was reading going to give EC01 a shot with the community mod first and see how that works out first seems a lot of people are thinking they are similar

yeah not much different at all. I just went to ed01 as i was wiping anyhow and his directions we straight forward but try ec01 then community v1.0 then you can flash v1.2

Thats what I'm going to do hopefully an odin ED01 package comes out I have a feeling EC01 will hold me over until then
Thanks for the help much more confident using voodoo

I'm new to Voodoo, quick Q

If I'm on eugenes ginger r2 with voodoo.... can I backup and flash to try nero v2 with voodoo and not disable?
I know what's safe, but I can't see where the problem would lie.
Also, check out Voodoo Toggle in the Market. Amazing app.
Well supercurio if I'm not mistaken mentioned that there its no need to disable it if you go from ext4 to ext4 supported kernel/rom combination. I might be wrong though. ODIN or alternative should always be ready.

I second that notion. I also read that you can go from one voodoo rom to another without disabling voodoo.
Cool. ended up disabling using that app just to be safe...and I didn't have the patience.

That is exactly right.
Worst-Case scenerio, the new rom doesnt have voodoo and you forget to disable,.... you'll get stuck at the boot, and then you will just use ODIN which will overwrite voodoo right?
Seems like there is no disadvantage to voodoo if that's the case.

As long as you can reliably get into the download mode if need be.
Also if you brick with voodoo don't you have to odin eugenes froyo that doesn't brick then odin to jfd?

^ really? Seems like any ODIN would work since it overwrites the system.

Actually sometimes ODIN Cannot always fix an EXT4 messup like voodoo when trying to flash a new rom, so just letting you know, it's happened to me.
BTW, I just went from Nero V1 JL4+voodoo to NeroV2+voodoo w/o disabling voodoo the whole flash took a little less than 3 minutes, and there are no bricks on my table

Thats because the newest version of nero is already written with voodoo. To those flashing other roms that are not written with the voodoo kernel and ext4 compatability, disable voodoo prior to flashing your new rom, or else be ready to spend some time with odin.

Is there a Voodoo supported CWMOD flashable Stock KA5?

I tried Nero 5 and I love it, no disrespect to Team Whiskey, but I get ZERO data on that ROM. Stock KA5 (even stock JL5) works fine. On Nero, I can manually enter my APN, select it, and nothing. I flashed and redownloaded both TouchWiz and the Standard V5.
On the stock ROM, I do not have this problem. I'd still like to have Voodoo speed and a working recovery, which is what I did NOT have with the stock ROMs.
Is there a working CWMOD flashable ROM that is basically a stock KA5 that supports Voodoo so I would NOT need to disable/remove Voodoo first?

No disrespect, despite what was shown, but, yes, I did read the thread you cited, and I am fully capable of reading in multiple languages, but I asked for a ROM, not a kernel.
It's just that I'd prefer not to have to go through the process of removing Voodoo, flashing to stock, rooting, flashing via CWMOD, etc.
So, again, is there such a ROM? That's why I'm asking. I've only been at this about 1 week, but I'm not ignorant. I'm asking for help.
This is not the place for this. Plz move to the Q&A forum. This has nothing to dowith development. Maybe you will find answers in the correct forum.

Once you flash the kernel, you will get your ROM.
Looking at your sig, you already have KA5 flashed. which would mean you do NOT have a voodoo kernel (which is why your asking?), thus requiring no need to disable voodoo. just flash the KA5 voodoo kernel and your all set. but moving forward you will have to disable/enable voodoo when flashing new ROMs. a small price to pay for the daily benefits of a superior file system.
disabling/enabling voodoo is uber easy. dl a terminal emulator or use adb.
From terminal emulator
Code:
$su
#reboot recovery
From computer using adb
Code:
\adb reboot recovery
Once your in the RED recovery screen goto voodoo lagfix -> disable/enable lagfix -> reboot
done.
Sorry, I hadn't updated my sig. I do have Voodoo and I am currently running Nero 5. Just trying to sort out my data problem.
Thanks for the info. I appreciate it very much. It helps.
What I did was just download the stock deo ka5, and the ka5 voodoo kernel, and replaced the zimage in the stock zip with the zimage in the kernel download. Flash away and no need to turn off voodoo.

Beat me to the post. This is exactly what I did. You can unzip the deodexed KA5 and pretty much add whatever you want to it. In fact, I just posted in that thread everything I added to mine. Just be sure its compatible.

[Q] Voodoo won't enable

Running SC 2.8... did it by Odin to EB01, CWM from jt's thread, used CWM to flash the voodoo version of SC 2.8. Everything works great, except no voodoo. I go to CWM... it says current Voodoo lag fix satus as "disabled" next reboot "enabled". And yet it never changes no matter how many times I reboot.
Any ideas?
battled that for the last few days myself ... check out the new superclean thread ... Odin again (i know it sucks) , install newest super clean , then reflash the Voodoo EB01 kernel from that thread . Its the EB16 kernel that comes with the rom that isnt converting some phones .
Flash that eb01 kernel . did the trick for me after a fresh Odin and install of SC 2.8

Lucas.scott is right about the kernel in 2.8 not converting for most people and flashing the EB01 kernel on 2.8 might do the trick also. I found it was best for me to odin back to stock EB01, odin red recovery, flash 2.6v, enable voodoo then flash 2.8v with voodoo enabled. That way the conversion was done before moving to 2.8. I've done this several times because I keep trying different themes and setups. Give it shot.
Maybe I am retarded, but doesn't CWM Red always say "VooDoo disabled", "Next Boot enabled" on EB01, regardless of ROM/kernel? I swear I remember reading that. My CWM says that, and I KNOW my Voodoo is up and working great. Oh and I know about the EB16 not converting, I am strictly asking about CWM.
when i booted SC 2.8 it took like 15 seconds, and i didnt hear an andriod talking.. the phone runs great but quadrant around 950, it says VooDoo disabled", "Next Boot enabled" im just try n flash that kernal

Yeah, well, did you use the Eb01 kernel? The eb16 kernel will not convert with voodoo. Use the eb01 kernel, and re-do it. Voodoo WILL convert.
Thanks guys, I will give that a shot... hate to go through the whole shebang again... but then again... it's kinda fun.
I'll post results AFTER the con call I need the phone for in 30 mins
It does display disabled, enabled on next book for me in voodoo cwm. I found that voodoo was still enabled for me when I checked quadrant scored: 1499.

[ODIN][04/23/11] ODIN Froyo ED01 packaged ROMs ***UPDATED 06/12/11***

Everyone may already know DroidXcon over at Android Central was the one who originally gave us Fascinate owners these ODIN packages. Unfortunately his phone became hard bricked when it fell off his desk while helping someone in the AC forums. I offered to help, and DroidXcon spent several hours walking me through the necessary steps to create the ODIN packages. So all credit for these ODIN packages goes to him, I am simply following his exact instructions and continuing his work.
Besides DroidXcon, I want to also give credit where credit is due. I am not claiming any part in creating the ROMs contained in these ODIN packages, this is just an easy all-in-one way to flash ROM, kernel, and modem. Adrynalyne, one of the great devs working on the Fascinate among other phones, took time out of his busy schedule to Debloat, Debing, and Deodex the ED01 official Froyo OTA release to give us that ROM. Adrynalyne again and the rest of TeamSbrissenMod - sbrissen, nisuj17, nemesis2all, gizmodroid, sunder74, gunnermike53, & js123, and anyone else who had any part in putting together or testing this collaborative effort known as Community ROM or Ultimate KangBang. Devs jt1134 and GizmoDroid collaborated and provided us with the current, functioning CWM linked to in this thread. imnuts for his kernel which seems to have been the key to get the Comm ROM packages to flash and load. So thank you so much to all of you for everything you have done and continue to do for the Fascinate and the Fascinate community......
XDA and I disclaim all liability for any harm that may befall your device, including, but not limited to: bricked phones, voided manufacturer warranties, exploding batteries, etc. We all flash things onto our phones at our own risk.

The Debloated/Deodexed packages contain the ED01 Debloated/Deodexed/Debinged rooted ROM from Adrynalyne, the EC01 modem/radio, cwm froyo, and Adrynalyne's EC10 kernel. The Community ROM packages contain Comm ROM v1.3, the EC01 modem/radio or no modem/radio, cwm froyo, and imnuts' -50mv nonvoodoo kernel. There is no stand alone ED01 modem yet, so we have to make do with the EC01 modem for now. Just like DroidXcon's other packages, these are nonvoodoo only. I will make adjustments to the packages as things are released.
IF YOU ARE RUNNING A VOODOO SETUP, YOU WILL NEED TO DISABLE VOODOO LAG FIX PRIOR TO FLASHING ONE OF THESE ODIN PACKAGES JUST TO BE SAFE. After a clean install and full reboot you can boot to cwm, flash the voodoo kernel of your choice, enable lag fix and reboot.
I NOW INCLUDE IMNUTS' -50mv NONVOODOO KERNEL IN THE COMM ROM PACKAGES BECAUSE IT SEEMS TO WORK TO ALLOW THE ROM TO FLASH IN ODIN AND COMPLETELY LOAD. AFTER THE ROM COMPLETELY LOADS, YOU CAN STICK WITH THAT KERNEL TO SEE HOW IT WORKS FOR YOU OR YOU CAN SAFELY BOOT TO CWM AND FLASH THE VOODOO OR NONVOOODOO KERNEL OF YOUR CHOICE.
***Update 05/17***
- Switched from times_infinity's ComaVolt nonvoodoo kernel to imnuts' -50mv PBJ nonvoodoo kernel
- Data wipe Community ROM packages added.
- Community ROM packages contain Comm ROM v 1.3
***Update 06/12***
- Added Community ROM 2.0 packages

After downloading these files you will need to extract the .tar.md5 file from the .rar file. For visual aid instructions on "how to extract the file" and "how to use ODIN", see post #'s 3 and 4 of DroidXcon's original ODIN thread .
3.) You will need to download the ODIN application tool found here ODIN or ODIN MIRROR
4.) You will also need the latest recovery, CWM 3.x HERE
5.) If your phone is plugged into your computer, unplug it now.
6.) If your phone is not powered down, power it down now.
7.) Remove battery from phone.
8.) Launch ODIN on PC.
9.) Plug USB cable into phone.
10.) Plug your Fascinate into the PC via the USB cable that came with your phone.
11.) Press and hold the volume down key until (approx 3 secs) you see a gigantic yellow triangle on your phone, and your phone will be in download mode. The first thin rectangle in the upper left of the ODIN applicate should also turn yellow and identify a com port. You can now release the volume key.
12.) Click on the PDA button in ODIN
Triple check that you pushed the PDA button. Do NOT click the Phone button prior to continuing to step 13. If you choose Phone, you will have bought your Fascinate a one-way ticket to hell.
13.) Find and double click on the ED01.tar.md5 file you downloaded in step 2 above & click the Start button. (This should take approx 3 to 6mins)
14.) Phone will power down when finished.
15.) Close ODIN, remove USB cable from phone, reinsert battery, power on phone and let ROM fully load.
16.) Power down phone, remove battery.
17.) Open ODIN.
18.) Reconnect phone to USB cable as described above in step 11.
19.) Click on the PDA button in ODIN. (Don't forget the warning about making sure you clicked the PDA button)
20.) Find and double click the CWM 3.x file you downloaded in step 4 above & once again click the Start button. (This should only take 7 seconds)
21.) Phone will power down again.
22.) Close ODIN
23.) Reinsert battery.
24.) Power phone and wait to boot. (Should take approx. 4 mins)

Good warning to NOT use the phone button. Fyi, there have been several users who recovered from this. In the event that a user stupidly presses the phone button, this can be recovered. I believe it just involved the same method that Adynalyne gave us for recovering after he caused many soft-bricks. (odin the stock files back on, along with PIT file and modem).
legit .. thanks a lot man . got me back to being current in just a couple minutes . thanks for taking the time .

Welcome. Yes, I remember gunnermike actually flashing something in the phone section on purpose just to see what would happen, and he recovered from it. And I believe that is the correct recovery from it also. The stock EB01 with the atlas 2.2 in the pit section with repartitioning checked has saved countless people. And I use it to clean things up for a fresh start after I've gone on a flashing binge.

2 questions...
1. coming from froyo using the no data wipe tar.. should we disable voodoo? i know odining will normally put rfs back on however without data wipe wondering if it ok?
2. similar to the "reset wipe" that is recommened with the ec10 and some of the other ed01 installs - would it be a good idea to put the atlas 2.2 pit file in pit section and repartition with the odin flash?

My bad, I thought I mentioned some of that in the OP, will update.
1. Yes these packages are nonvoodoo, so if you are running voodoo, you will need to disable lag fix prior to flashing to be safe. Then after clean install and full reboot, you can boot to cwr, flash your voodoo kernel of choice, and enable lag fix.
2. No, these packages are not designed to work with the atlas pit file. They will wipe the cache partition for you. The wipe version wipes cache and data, so if you want a fresh start even coming from a Froyo build you can do that. I tested the wipe version coming from stock EB01 and SC 2.9.2 nonvoodoo and had no issues. I had a few testers use the no wipe package from various set ups and they had no issues. So no need to use the atlas 2.2 pit file, use these ODIN packages as is.
I just rooted my wife's fascinate, after flashing Odin and the update zip, it booted to red clockwork did a reboot and now I can't get back to clockwork.
Is this the issue of booting the phone back on the stock kernel? It reverts to stock recovery?
If this is the case, once in clockwork initially should I create a backup and then flash a kernel?

I believe if you look here at XDA in the development fourm, jt1134, times_infinity and imnuts all have custom nonvoodoo kernel options which will work with this ED01 debloated/deodexed ROM. If you choose an imnuts kernel, being new to the Fascinate you may want to start out with the standard voltage (sv) kernel until you can do some reading on setting the voltage. Any of the devs here are putting out some amazing kernels, but these are the only nonvoodoo custom kernel options of which I am aware.
@landshark68
Thanks for the awesome release! Could you also make a package without the radio? This way, if people are on ED01 radio, they can flash and have the best of both worlds, since ED01 radio is the only thing that's not available now.
Kernal overlap problem...
I currently have two verizon fascinate phones. one is for my wife and one is for my self. My wife's fascinate had absolutely no problem after odin froyo ed01 ROM but my fascinate had previously installed [ROM][4.27.2011][ED01]Community Rom V1.2 rom by flashing the .zip files. And when it's booting up, the verizon startup animation and "android" letter animation gets overlayed. Is this because of a kernal overlap? if it is, could anyone suggest a solution for this? thanks.
i'm assuming this is pre-rooted?
Can I tether free using a third party sw other than Verizon hotspot with this rom?
Thanks.

I just finished up Community ROM ODIN packages and I did do that for those. I will be releasing them soon after testing is done. There will be packages with the EC01 modem and packages with no modem.

Clockwork 3.0 Update.zip

Anyone know where I can get the 3.0 clockwork update.zip? I am currently on blue version and would like 3.0 to flash com rom can someone post the link? All the ones in the stickies lead me to 404 file not found on drop box...
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1046905
Scroll down below the ODIN packs and you will find the .zip versions.
They are 3.x and come in 3 different colors.
Tested the first link and I was given the download so you should be good to go.
Thank you for posting in the correct section!

No thank you for being so diligent and responding! Two other questions:
How do I know if I am voodoo'd? I have the voodoo folder on my SD card but I do not know if I am actually voodoo'd as I didn't do anything to make myself that way.
Which one of those should I get to flash community rom 2.0?

I will answer these in reverse order as.... well.... it will be easier
Any of them, the colors mean nothing (dont quote me on that) and if you choose the PBJ version of Kangbang (community rom) you will get a yellow one! They all work the same but leading to the first question.....
....When you have the latest CWM3.X there is a voodoo option menu. If you click it you will be showen a list of voodoo check points (what I call them) that will tell you if and where the lagfix (voodoo) is enabled. If you flash a voodoo kernel you will automatically be converted to voodoo. **you will hear a nice robot lady voice tell you upon first start up**
If you just want a simple way of telling right now if you have voodoo. Pop over to the market and type in voodoo. Download the voodoo control app and open it. There is a menu that will tell you if it is enabled or not!
If I was going to do it I would grab the purple version (personal preference) and flash Imnuts's PBJ -50 kernel or the Kangbang (comm ROM) package that the kernel and ROM come in together. That way you will have voodoo, yellow updated CWM3.X, and the famed Kangbang (comm ROM)!
You can check right in CWM (under Voodoo), or via the Voodoo Control app.

Is there anyway I can download a non-voodoo update.zip as I don't want to go voodoo.

any update.zip will work as far as I know and you can still use the 'voodoo' red CWM 3.x even if you don't want voodoo. I was using it for a while to flash the ComRom package with no kernel. As for checking if you have voodoo enabled, you can do what the others said or run the Quadrant app from the market. If voodoo your score should be 1500+, normally its around a 1000. Of course the scores mean nothing, its just a quick way to tell.

You no longer need the update.zip in root of SD card to get into CWM recovery.
