Memory stick class=faster Android on HD2? - HD2 Windows Mobile 6.5 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hey guys. I checked it over the Internet but doesn't answers to my questions.
First of all i have an HD2 with Duttys Family Rom newest version (dec 2010) with JDMS 1.6.2 Ultimate and an 8GB class 2 Chinese sdhc card bought over eBay for about 10bucks. Anw, i am using Android as my Daily OS. When i press the power key to unlock the phone, it takes about 3-4 seconds for the screen to light up to the lock screen and a Green line appears as it opens.. Recendly my friend gave me his HD2 to sell it to another friend... As i checked the Android on his mobile it didn't have this "problem" as mine...I just pressed the power key and voila! Lock screen lights up immediately! He had EnergyRom wwe 18 Oct 2010, an old Radio 2.14.50... and an Android Sense version and a micro sd card 2gb...
My kind of noob questions are:
1)Does classes of micro cards do the thing? I mean it reads much faster the card and loads Android faster?
2)Is this because that Android Sense "uknown" version is "Sense" or something?
3)Does the kernel plays any role on Android versions?
4)HOW TO SOLVE THIS ANNOYING PROBLEM??
I tried everything..I am an atticted on flashing new roms, android and i have the latest radio 2.15.50 and a class 4 8gb card.. But still i have this lockscreen "problem" which is very Annoying!
Any suggestions? I saw some comments over here on several Android versions about this kind of "problem" but i didn't saw any solution to it! Thanks!

I am all ears guys! Help me out please!

In my opinion, it is more kernel related than card class. I am running Ultimate 1.62 on a class2 16gb, but with the kernel in parenthesis next to it in my sig, and I get no slow wakes. When I ran the same build on Hastarin's I got slow wakes, and more battery drain. Im not saying MDJ's kernel is better than Hastarin's, just that it seems to work better on that build. I would try switching kernels. I have actually seen quite a few people with class 6's posting complaints about Android freezing up, refusing to boot, and slow-waking too. Plus, it's alot cheaper to change kernels than to change sd cards. One other thing I do, is to install setcpu, and set a profile for screen off with a min and max mhz of 422 mhz. I know MDJ's kernel by default is a sleep speed of 245, I don't know what Hastarin's is set at, but at 422, I get no slow-wakes and my battery drain during sleep is still only 3-6 mA.
Just some little tips, hope they help

Great help man! Thank you very much!

[REQ]Can any 1?

hey experts i m using the new pointui home 2 with the latest build verison 2.0.18 b n m enjoying it alot as its highly customizable..can any of us here build a ROM wid Home2 Replacing our Today ?
if it can be done then i think we can cut down the RAM Home2 uses as a Standalone Plugin ..
No we can't. As of now, there are two things to not considering Home 2 cooking with ROM:
1. Its development is in early stage and updates are and will come fast. Cooking home 2 in ROM will hamper the updating process.
2. There is no difference in RAM usage whether you cook it or not. The only difference is Phone memory usage (which is not a concern as Home 2 can be installed on SD Card) and speed (ya, this would be affected significantly.)
So wait for some time, and maybe someone will do it, it could be me also, who knows?

Does anyone has a clue why battery life so poor ?

If you're running Android on your HD2, then battery will last about half of what it lasted with WM. If you take a Desire device, its battery life will be at least double than a HD2 running Android (proving that it's not a fault with Android itself).
When the question is raised of why Android kills the HD2 battery so fast, the usual answer is: "Android for HD2 is still in its infancy stages".
The question is, do anyone has any clue why in this "infancy stages", battery performance is so poor ?, I mean, if you want to solve a problem, you first need to understand what causes the problem, and I don't think anyone understands why battery life is so poor, so why should we assume there will be any progress in this regard in future builds ?
I do believe that developers will probably be able to activate every feature of the HD2, simply because we understand why some features don't work now (for example: maybe we don't have an appropriate driver). Battery performance, on the other hand, seems to be a much more mystical feature, nobody understand exactly why the performance is poor, or what is needed to be done to improve it...

What ???, that's the only (or even main) reason ???, the power requirments of the SD card are so much greater than that of the internal storage ?
Many people are reporting poor battery performance even in standby. Is the SD card active in standby too ?

Thanks for the tip, but you are not answering my question. In WM, data is not off when the screen is off, yet battery performance is good. With the Desire device, data too is not off when the screen is off, and battery performance is good too.

Actually Mystik610 already told you the problem. Yes, running Android from the SD card is the problem with battery performance.

Is the system running in standby? Obviously that it is, so the SD card is active also in standby. Equation solved.
Form what I understand it's because cpu scaling isn't fully functional yet... That's why the bottom of the device gets so hot when in use with android. That, along with the SD card and data (witch isn't 100% optimized yet) is why.
these settings worked for me in improving battery life
HKLM\Comm\AsyncMac1\Params
DisablePowerManagement=0
HKLM\Comm\PPTP1\Params

now with froyostone v1 I lose in standby around 1%/hour...in WM I lose 0.5%/hour
with setcpu set correctly (+the 925mV kernel) and those power management registry tweaks I'm able to do 2 and a half days with my phone, including usage like a few calls, a bit of browsing every day, about 4h of music and downloading mails four times a day.
Thats pretty impressive for me, don't remember getting much more or even more in WinMo.
I could say that SD card is not the only reason. I used Android-based devices (Liquid and Desire) for a while and I can say that android has slight problems with power management itself.
SD card !!!!!!!!

I was under the impression that in standby, the parts of the system still active, run from memory (RAM), and not storage.

Something here doesn't make sense. If the main (and surely if only) reason for poor battery performance is because the system works from the SD Card, then why people offer SetCPU as a solution ?, if SetCPU can solve even part of the problem, it means that Android CPU scaling abilities are not working correctly with the HD2 builds. Am I wrong ?
Do people with the Desire device also get the same boost in battery performance after using SetCPU, as the people with the HD2 device ?
I've not noticed any difference in battery consumption using Android over WM.
Chucky Droid ROM
Radio 2.10.50.26
Mattc Leo + Froyo w/sense 1.5b
Great work by the way guys!

I used to get a day and a half in WM, now I get barely half a day with Android.
2 and half days? thats crazy. Can you send your setcpu setting? Even on airplane mode over night i'm losing 40-50%, no matter what i do.

I can confirm that SetCpu is vital for the Acer Liquid E. My girlfriend has one and I had to flash Liquid Community Rom with SetCpu due to power consumption.

You should try the tip posted in the other thread

SD cards vary in class and power consumption. Get and try a class 2 card and you will see the difference. The latest cards are power hungry even in standby. I asked this question of Sandisk and I was told that the info is only available to devs!!!
It causes the problem with Winnow usage as well especially when you install any apps to the higher class of card.
Using a class two I get a day with heavy usage. Right now after 8 hours I have 60% left.

so, we may assume that if we nand flash android rom we can get better battery and performance, sorry for not reading lately this forum but is there flashable android rom for ANY ex-winmobile htc device and how this compares in battery performance with android roms running using haret.exe?

FREEX10 2.2 BETA 4 - Huge Quadrant Drop

Hey Everyone,
Just upgraded to Free X10 Beta 4. Everything is working fine, however, my Quadrant score has dropped to about 900. With beta 3 it was 1300. With beta 2, about 1500. So, it keeps dropping with every upgrade.
Does anyone know why this is? Any potential fixes?
it seems to be very different for everyone.
some have better. some have worse.
i can agree that with beta3 i was getting 1500+
when i flashed to beta4 i was getting nothing over 1350
and now even having gone back to beta3 im still not getting over 1400.
so whatever it did, it was clearly permanent since i did a factory reset and EVERYTHING. sucks right ?
what is the benefit of 1350 or 1500 ? It sounds both high...I do have 1310 at beta4, but for what it is necessary to have higher scores? Playing fast games? Or is it just a matter of who gets the highest number? My phone is going like crazy on 1310.....If it's just about the numbers, I know for a car more Horsepower doesn't mean automatically more speed, it depends on more than just the horsepower...
I really don't know where this amount stands for, I asked before but no one could explain it clearly...

well the problem for me is. at first with beta3 i was getting 1500+ the first run with quadrant.
now that ive tried beta4 and gone BACK to beta3 i get around 1000 to 1190 the first run. and need 3 or 4 runs to get up to 1300. and the scores in between 1 and 4 may be lower or higher than the previous. so now it just seems something has made it inconsistent.
but i do agree with you my phone is still fast.

"Quadrant Obsession" is the sequel to the "Free RAM obsession"!
I happened to read this article today and it helped understand a few things!
Check it out!
I used to have around 1500 with beta 4.
Recently i installed data2sd and this works like a charme.
I now get scores around 2500
Phone is stable only had 1 fc but that was right after the installation so i think the data wasn't setteld yet now it runs for 3 days wirh no problems at all.

i know this is a stupid quest but how can i know my scores? can some one show me how?
I am on Beta 4 and i get CONSTANT 1550 Quadrant scores.
I even installed the Data2SD addon which now gives me a constant 2550 (which im not entirely liking because theres a lot of fcs and the phone tends to freeze up a lot more, so im going to revert when i get my new one)

[Q] HD2 Dual Boot

Hi all
Sorry if this has been asked before... I'm aware you can dual boot WM6.5 & Android (Droid being booted from the SD card).
But this uses huge amounts of battery and gets the phone very hot...
Is there a way to have both WM and Android in the internal memory of the phone and a selection can be made at bootup???
Any ideas?
No this is not possible snd will more than likely never be possible on the HD2. It is just not enough memory space in the NAND chip that the OS resides in. Sorry it would be nice but it is just not possible.
If your phone is getting very hot and using a lot of battery then you just need to use a different combination of WM ROM and Android Build.
It is possible to have both running very well and for Android to not use a stupid amount of power. However it does take a lot of trial and error.
Ive recently switched to Elegancia ROM instead of an Energy ROM and Im getting even better battery life from Android now, even though It was pretty good anyway.
As a general rule of thumb, android builds containing HTC sense will tear the arse out of your battery because sense is a memory hog.
Try one of the AOSP builds.
Ive also noticed that you can get better battery life in android by following this process when you boot into android from WM.
Disable HTC Sense (Settings - All settings - Today - Items - Uncheck HTC Sense - Tick WM Default)
Soft Reset.
Boot android asap, ideally before any data connections initialise.
Hope that helps.
I'm dual booting with stock 3.14 ROM and darkstone's non-sense RAM build, which gives reasonable battery life and good speed - although still only about half that WinMo gives.

[Q] Time2Touch MC701A 7" Android Tablet

I'm not sure if this is the right section for this tablet as I don't know who makes it, I'm looking at getting two of these while they are on offer at £99. and Yes it runs BBC iPlayer with out any problems - so I have seen.
Oh Yes and I got this off their Ebay sellers page:

It looks and sounds like a capable tablet and easy to root with Superoneclick, i'm looking forward to delivery
Have you got this tab yet? Thinking of getting 1 for my daughter but don't want to spend her money on something if it's not good at the basics... does it handle Where's My Water ok? ;-)
The tablet came today and I am very impressed so far, very quick, good screen, good battery from what i've seen so far. It's much faster than what I thought it would be, but then it does have a 1.2Ghz ARM Cortex 8 processor!
Am in the process of setting up right now, not rooted yet but will be, bbc iplayer works but could only get it from an apk online, it didn't appear in the market place, even though i am in the UK??
Great Buy, would recommend
