Firstly, Ive tried to search all over for this answer and didnt find anything. If this is a re-post I apologize.
AT&T seems to have removed the ability to enable unknown sources from the X10 under the settings -> applications menu.
Does anyone know how to enable unknown sources another way?
Thanks
Perhaps this will be a simpler question to answer: Is there a way to flash the phone without access to the unknown sources button?
You have to unbrand your AT&T. Below is a guide on how to do it. You will also update to Android 2.1, and you will be ready for the 2.3.3 Gingerbread update in Q2 - Q3 2011.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1012380
Actually you dont have to theres a way using root explorer and sqlite editor i dont know the link keep searchin through the forums
Sent from my X10i using XDA App
superoneclick has an option that says "allow non market apps"
This is what I remember when I still had my X10 with the AT&T Android 1.6 build.
=====
You'll have to root your phone and install Root Explorer & Sqlite Editor first.
In Root Explorer, go to /data/data/com.android.providers.settings/databases/ and edit the settings.db file. Then in Sqlite Editor, select the "secure" table, and update the value of 'install_nonmarket_apps' from 0 to 1, and save. Exit out of all the apps and reboot your phone.
Although you still won't see 'Unknown sources' in Settings > Applications, installing non-market apps should work anyway.
I used the following as a guide:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=773392
Above root 1.6 methods work, but might as well update to 2.1 and root with Flash Tool now, since AT&T is never going to do it. AND you'll be sure to get 2.3 Gingerbread from Sony Ericsson when available.

You don't need to worry about it when flashing. It won't affect it.

Thanks for the help. The purpose of this is to debrand the phone and flash the generic global software. The flash tool (as im sure you all know) requires unknown sources to be on...
I will do this and then see if the flash tool works, thanks.

That is a standard message that shows up after flashing. You need to turn on Unknown Sources and USB Debugging in order to root, optimise, and install xRecovery with Flash Tool.
Follow the guide I linked above, and it should answer all your questions.

Hi guys. yeah hi to you guys.
this thread are probably only for newbies, and when you're reading at this post,
YES , you're noobs. (i once was)
what purpose im posting this thread?
since there's been couples of, i mean tons of new x10 mini/pro that with no ability to solve their problem with:
bricked devices, downgrade, upgrade, rooting, xrecovery.
not all member can help you guys everytime when kill your device or asking for tutorial how-to thing with posting new thread.
so i decided this post gonna help you solved most of your problem.
ABOUT SECTION
Before wee get started, lt me explain little more details ABOUT:
1. Rooting
2. xRecovery
3. Flashing, Downgrading and Upgrading
4. Troubleshooting
1. Rooting
Code:
What is Rooting? and what are the benefits Rooting my device?
Let me tell you why.
What Is Rooting?
First of all, for the newbies, let me define what rooting is. Getting root or
rooting your phone is the process of modifying the operating system on your
device which will grant you complete control over it.
This means you can overcome limitations that the carriers and manufacturers
put on your phone, extend system functionality, and even upgrade it to a custom flavor of Android.
The name root equally known as Administrator on Windows is called root.
Benefits Of Rooting
Full Control Over Android
1. Back Up The System
2. Save Space On Your Phone
3. Move cache data to SD card
4. Move installed applications to SD card
5. Install Custom ROMs & Themes
6. Run Special Applications:
some of application that needed rooting access
# Super User – allows you to approve or deny root access to any application
# Auto Memory Manager – kills tasks you wouldn’t be able to otherwise
# Move Cache for Root – move cache for browser, market, maps, street view,
and gmail onto SD card
# Startup Manager – Clean up android system from system startup to boost
system power and memory from the get go
# SetCPU for Root Users – Overclocking your rooted device lets you speed up
your phone’s processor when you are using it and lets you slow it down when it
goes into "sleep" mode. It can either be a battery hog or battery saver.
# Root Explorer - working as file manager, where you can manage file not only
on sd card, but also in system files.
# Rom Manager - which allows you to easily flash a custom recovery image
which is what you will need in order to backup and restore your phone.
2.xRecovery
Code:
What is xRecovery? and the benefits of xRecovery?
What is xRecovery?
xRecovery is a custom recovery console proudly made by Zdzihu for Sony
Ericsson Xperia X10, Mini and Mini Pro devices based on the source code of
Cyanogen’s recovery
Benefits Of xRecovery
It lets you easily perform:
1. Manage and Restore Backups.
(good options before flashing or installing custom incase of bricking your device, you can always use xRecovery to restore backuped files)
2. Reboot.
(allow you to reboot)
3. Installing and flashing ROMs, Themes and Applications From Zip Files.
4. Wipe Your Phone, Factory Reset, Wiping Cache, Data, Dalvik Cache and
Battery Stats.
5. Mounting, Unmounting System Files.
(allowed you to to modified files and folder inside system files)
6. Formatting Partitions.
7. Fixing Permissions.
(allowed you to modify, set the right permission for certain files)
3. Flashing, Downgrading & Upgrading
Code:
What is Flashing, Downgrading & Upgrading??? are you retarded?:D
I don't think i have to explain these more details cause eventhough you're noob.
anyway i'll just explain it in simple way.
0. Flashing are the universal word for Downgrading and Upgrading and installing.
(thats the way im using the word for flashing.)
(eg: im going to flash the old firmware/ the latest firmware/the awesome
Sony Blues Theme/ the Froyo ROM.)
1. Downgrading is the proccess where you're reverting your android baseband
and
firmware to the old version.
2. Upgrading is the proccess where you're going to update your baseband and
firmware to the latest version.
3. Both of the proccess above can be perform with Flashtool and Sony Ericsson
Update Service(you can't downgrade using SEUS)
Nujhum Sensei, i got couples of question.
1. What is Flash Tool?
-FlashTool now is something like an all in one Tool for your phone.
It can:
- Flash original Images (Android 1.6 & Android 2.1 Images)
- Root your phone (Only if the phone is on a 2.1 android version)
- Install xRecovery, Busybox
- Clean your Rom (remove /system/apps apps of your choice)
- Clear dalvik cache
- Optimize (install of JIT v2)
- Customize (installs apps found in the custom/apps folder of the flashtool)
- Clean uninstalled (remove any references to system apps removed in the Clean (root needed) step)
- Edit /system/build.prop
2. What is Sony Ericsson Update Service (SEUS) ?
-Sony Ericsson Update Service (SEUS)
It can:
-Update your phone for optimal performance and get the latest enhancements.
-Regardless if you have the latest software, it is a good routine to run Update
Service to improve software stability.
-Also, if you experience problems with your phone this may be solved by a software update.
4. Troubleshooting
i. Bricked Device
ii. Waranty Void
Code:
i. bricked devices
- normally a bricked device happened on the proccess of installing/flasing
custom ROMs and Themes, Down/Upgrading using flashtool and etc.(i only
experienced all those i've stated).
- most problem you'll encountered whith bricked device are, endless loop
reboot, loop reboot and can't load xRecovery and else. :D
- and when it happen.
- "MOM, i killed my phone that daddy bought for me last week. he's going to kill
me". DONT WORRY, THERE'S ALWAYS HAVE SOLUTION TO EVERY PROBLEMS.
- You can always flash your device using Sony Ericsson Update Service (SUES).
which i've include where to download and how to use it in the 3rd step of
Flashing/Down/Upgrading Tutorial.
ii. waranty void
- the most critical part, at least the most of you guys will think after rooting,
xrecovery, installing custom room now your waraty are void.
- why? because Sony wont like it when we messing up with their device.
- don't worry you can get it back by flashing it using, yes, again using SEUS.
Done with the details.
First of all, the link im gonna post are not mine.
you can thank me (i don't mind if you didn't), but thank the original creator.
ROOTING YOUR ANDROID
Code:
This is the starting point of getting your warranty void.
What you're going to do here is Rooting your phone,

it should be no problem if they read the instructions, and the requirement, and the right base band/firmware for installing themes and custom roms.
well, lets see, if more request to come.

dont have to change permission.
reboot your device, right after the white sony ericsson appear, hit multiple time the back button.
Well this is perfect, but the only problem that I see is Root Explorer app is not anymore free, so it is better to update post with alternative apps!
Thanks

I have rooted my phone with the steps mentioned here [ROOT] Firmware 6.1.1.B.1.54 - xda-developers . Let me put in a perspective of what I did.
1. Downloaded the stuff.
2. Factory reset the phone.
3. Flashed the phone with 6.1.1.B.1.10 and rooted the device using shell script.
Now the issue is .
1. Even though I have flashed the phone it still shows the version as 6.1.1.B.1.54 . Also I am getting update notifcation from Sony? Should I install the update /
2. Before factory reseting I did flashed once but the phone retained all the setting and data ? Is that normal ?
3. Even though I've rooted the device I still cna't remove factory loaded apps like Chrome and FB ?
Will I be needing CWM to install 3rd party ROM?
I am planning to give MIUI a shot. What else I need to do ?
Also what settings I can do once I have rooted the device. Please do list some handful tuts for getting started with overclocking and cpu profiling and other handful tweaks I can do.
P.s - This is my first attempt :
Edit - I guess the update is showing cause the ftf was not the Indian vers ?

Is your phone unlocked?
1. You can get this notification if you are using an older kernel on newer firmware. (.10 kernel on .54)
You can resolve this by installing the appropriate kernel.
If this is not the case I wouldn't know... You can just ignore it I guess.
2. Yes, flashing generally doesn't remove those things.
3. You need an app to remove system apps, you can use a file manager with root permissions or a dedicated app like root uninstaller.
And yes CWM is needed to flash 3rd party roms.
just a little sugestion supersu is not good like superuser
I tried flashing MIUI image file using fastboot method but when i loaded the image the process exited with an error.
Device not rooted.
well I did used the method in the above mentioned thread and super use is installed. I even used su command and rom manager couple of times and it worked ?
Then why I am getting the error ?
What possible could be the issue and the solution to it ?
Edit -
Now here is the catch - If I power on the device and use flashtool it says Root Access Allowed.
Now if I boot into fastboot method to flash it says "failed (The Device must be rooted first) "
Dang. What now !

After scrounging, searching, hunting, and generally scrubbing every tree/rock/bush for answers, I have decided that it is time to post. As I am new to these forums, I sincerely appreciate any assistance in this matter. I have tried the only two methods that I can find to root my phone. the one by Bin4ry which is found at http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1886460. and another one from a different site that was for JB. I have made sure that both debugging is on as well as allowing installations of non-market applications. I have tried every single usb mode, that just on the off chance, mine was that one phone that wanted to seperate itself from society. Since my phone is running ICS 4.0.4 I should be using Bin4ry's version, but I get stopped by this

I wish someone would resolve this I see people all over the place bragging they have rooted their exceeds "showing proof" and no-one seems to give a crap that some people can't afford the most easily rooted phones and are forced to get the most workable less expensive phones. I have student loans and would have to pay a $400.00 deposit to be able to pay 150 dollars for a semi decent phone and my carrier won't allow me to use the phone I've had for a couple years that I rooted myself. I just want a viable answer to how do you root the exceed I know what I'm doing but I work for a living (making very little at that) and have a child to support so I can't devote a week to figuring it out and am frustrated that nobody seems to give a crap about anything but the new razr or the iphone (trendys).

Yep, I just rooted my VS840PP, seems you need to use the Lg Spectrum root, but since I'm new I can't post links, but you will need the driver file "LG VZW_United_WHQL_v2.11.0.exe" and "LG_Spectrum_ICS.zip" (put these into a search engine)
Install Instructions
Download and unzip
Connect your phone to your PC
Make sure to have the LG USB drivers installed
Make sure to have debugging enabled
Make sure to have USB connectivity set to internet connection
Run the script for your OS (.bat for Windows, .sh for Linux)
Enjoy
I really did think it would make my phone not boot, but surprisingly it worked! EDIT 8-16-13 treat this phone like any other LG Lucid, which means you can go to CM 10 4.1 Jellybean on this phone.

Yeah one which is Android 4.1.2, the file is called "cm-10-20130424-UNOFFICIAL-vs840.zip", but you have to rollback to GB 2.3.6(due to locked ics bootloader), install root, CWM and finally install the CM 10 based LG Lucid beta rom. I see you edited your post and yes it is the standard LG Lucid Gingerbread downgrade method. The forum thread title is "[ROM][BETA] CyanogenMod 10 for the LG Lucid" and its on "androidforums.com" all info you need should be in that forum thread. I can tell you that Jellybean works very well on this phone, and I never want to go back to 4.0.4. :good: But of course there are some bugs, as it seems signal strength is lower, but I may have the wrong baseband for this phone.

You may have to install the baseband for the Exceed. I think in the CyanogenMod beta thread on AndroidForums there is a link but I'm not sure. Use ROM Manager to install CWM Recovery and then Flash CM10.

As long as you're rooted, search on the internet for "cwm installer for lucid" and follow the install instructions on gingerbread, then you want to flash the CWM touch recovery by searching for LGVS840_CWMT.zip and clicking on "CWM Touch Flashable Recovery for LG Lucid 4G - LG Cell Phones ..." Make sure you have the CWMT zip and LG Lucid CM 10.1 zip on your micro sd card. You then use rom manager to boot into recovery and flash the CWMT zip, then do a factory reset and clear caches and finally flash the LG Lucid CM 10.1 available on androidforums.

May I ask which firmware are you suppose to use to do a roll back? Can you just use the Lucid's firmware or does it have to be the Exceed firmware to work for the roll back?

It's the stock gingerbread for the LG Lucid and you look for the method to install with LG's tool and you will need the file "VS840ZV6_06.S6_06.P58014.R5.cab" and look for how to roll back to gingerbread on the lg lucid to find out how to roll it back.

Thanks a bunch, I thought it would be okay to do that but just wanted to make sure before doing it.
Hmm, after restoring successfully, for some reason I cant get the Wi-Fi to work. I tried both versions the V5 and V6 in the dropbox posted on android forum. Can root and everything but unable to access any internet without wifi. Kinda stuck without CWM. Any clues?
Edited: Whoops, Haha, a Factory Reset fixed it.
Edited: Blah after being able to install Rom Manager and installing CWM "Successful" I still get into CWM recovery.
Edited: CWM solved but now I get the "Cant Mount Sd" in CWM. Trided both "fat and "extFAT" and no go. Any Help?
Edited: Finally! Bad SD card! CM 10 up and running! Woot!

Glad to see you got CM 10 on this phone, since it runs pretty good, the only issue I had is the way it handles low signal areas, which is why I upgraded to the LG Spectrum plus I wanted Verizon 4G LTE.
scififan68 said:

I think I may have had the same issue and it turned out the root files didn't extract correctly the first time, so I deleted the root files and extracted them again and it worked. Of course I can't exactly remember it now, but its worth a try. EDIT: Wait no, it looks like root installed fine, are you on stock ICS or Gingerbread? As Gingerbread has special root tools that are different from ics, also make sure you have superSU installed and try the root checker from the playstore.
Will I be stuck in activation mode?

New to the community and was hoping this was a good place for a related question. I have an exceed and I rooted without problem yesterday. I believe my SD Maid app deleted some important files or something because I stopped receiving incoming calls and texts. Anyway, I soft bricked my phone a few times and got the "Long time no see" message. I thought I unrooted my phone so I tried doing a hard reset thinking I would possibly fix the problem. That made matters worse. My soft brick became the only thing I could see no matter how many times I pulled the battery out and rebooted I was stuck at that screen. After hours of trying to get my pc to recognize my phone/get my phone in download mode, I finally fixed it and rooted again. Problem is that when I went through the unbrick process and flashed the kdz file to my phone, it was then stuck in activate mode. It wasnt a big deal because I just played dumb with verizon and they fixed it in their system being that when trying to activate it didnt give me the option to activate on my same plan/number. A bit annoying but better than nothing. My question is when I roll back to gingerbread or flash CM10 will I be stuck in activation mode again? Sorry for the long post, just figured I would give the what and why before my question!

You mean the activation screen, that you can quite easily bypass, also once it is is active it doesn't need to be activated again. Here is how to bypass activation https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8WGKCdlnt1s
wow how did i miss that one!

I know this is an old post but I just snuck and rooted the girlfriends LG Lucid VS840ZV9 / 4.0.4 / software update version 6.3.0_B7
tonight using spectrum_root_windows

Hey guys,
Just wanted to let you know that I've found a way to permanently root the latest stock KitKat ROM for our LG L9 II (D605).
Here's what I did:
Starting with fresh KDZ install of v20h (no cwm or other things necessary), you need to be on Dalvik (default). (It should work up to v20h, not just on v20h btw.)
Two important steps before proceeding: Settings/Security -> Enable 'Unkown Sources' and Disable 'Verify Apps'!
1) Download and install KingRoot, use it to root the phone (might restart, after it boots, just start the app again). Make sure you're on WiFi while running Kingroot.
2) Download and install SuperSU Me Free app, use it to delete KingUser and switch to SuperSu. Make sure to give the app root permissions.
At this point you're fully rooted with working SuperSU, although you will lose it at restart. If you just need 'temproot' to delete some stuff, go ahead, you're done.
To finalize root:
3) Put this file to the '/cache' folder. Root is required to do this step. Do it with Total Commander or some other file manager app (give it root permissions).
4) Download and install Reini Reboot from Play Store. Start the app, give it root permissions. Click 'Restart to Recovery'. Phone restarts.
5) Welcome to your stock system recovery. (Go up or down with volume keys and select with power key.)
Navigate to 'Apply update from cache', where you will find the root_v2b.zip file you put there. Click on it, it installs, then select 'reboot system now'.
You are now fully rooted, that's permanent.
(Might have to update the SU binary right after, and another time after you update SuperSU in Play Store.)
Feel free to hit 'thanks' if it helped.
Hi!
I just wanna say thanks for this easy described method of rooting my beloved LG Optimus L9 II. I tried this method about 30 minutes ago and so far so good. I appreciate your easy description of going about this method and I also appreciate that you either attached or linked all the tools that you need for this rooting. I hope that more people discoveres this method. I do hope that you know how much I really appreciate this. A BIG thanks from me!
i have cmw recovery, no Apply update from cache option. Any solution?

Yes. Do this after step 2)
3) Download this file and put in on your phone (anywhere).
4) Enter CWM and flash the root_v2b.zip file with CWM.
Thanks, it works like a charm. Point 4 can be done by just using "adb reboot recovery" though.
Work on v20g?

Thanks for the feedback. It's easier (noob-proof) this way though. But you're right
@Famenz: I think it should work up to v20H, but feel free to try.
D60520d-260-06 - OK
It worked for D60520d-260-06, brand Play.
I am using an older version of KingRoot-4.0.0.233-release-201505071219_105001.apk
Official XDA website SuperSU Me.
Please follow there thanks to @gatesjunior.

Installing the application does not require resetting the device.
root_v2b.zip is not compatible with V20H, gives me "E:footer is wrong" and cancels
Some questions.
- Why supersu me doesnt keep the root ?
- Can't I skip the step 2 and install supersume at the end ?
- Cant we just spy what method king root uses to root and make a root for us ?
- I havent tryed framaroot casue its too wierd that it ask for photocamera access permission... does it work ?
P.S. I just noticed that kingroot could be chinese ? (I see asian chars) And you know that chinese puts spyware everywhere !
(Ok, android it self is a spyware)
P.P.S. King root and framaroot doesnt work for me ! ( vodafone 20g )

You probably haven't noticed this, but the D605 has been abandoned way before even the P71x, and that was kept alive up until somewhere in 2016. It's quite safe to assume your questions will probably never find answers here.

literally there's no file to put on the phone because media fire is gone...
