[Q] Can you update using OSX? - Sony Ericsson XPERIA X10 Mini

Hi, I've just got an X10 Mini Pro and it's still running 1.6.
Have I seriously got to install Windows on my mac just to update? Are there any tools I can use under OSX (10.6)?
I'm not some Apple fanboy that doesn't want windows. I've tried several times, butI simply don't have room for bootcamp (well I do, but apparently the files are fragmented so I cant setup boot camp).
Anyway, cheers!

ATTN Mac users... RUU update via Parallels?

Has anyone tried it? Ever since moving to a MacBook Pro, I no longer have a PC at home or work. I've got WinXP running just nicely with the few apps I need for work under Parallels. It's brilliant.
But I've got my HTC TyTN and was wondering if anyone has tried upgrading under Windows running on Parallels? Parallels' USB support seems to be fabulous, but when you're talking about blasting ROMs... well, figured I'd ask first.
You can also upgrade from OS X:

Lovely! You're the man, pof... oops, haven't installed dev tools yet. Gotta wait for that download!

I have updated a number of times on my 8525 from an XP VM on a Macbook 2GHZ with 2GB of RAM. I would advise that you close all Rosetta aps before running an updater -- I was worried about system hangs due to resource allocation issues. No problems for me at all with the last 3-4 builds of Parallels.

I was not able to flash with parallels. OSX would take over the USB, and won't release to parallels when the phone reboots in bootloader mode. Bootcamp with XP worked perfectly for me.
I just went ahead and tried it under Parallels for S&G's... I'm using the latest version of Parallels and have the "connect USB devices automatically" option checked on my VM config. That option might be why it works. Oh, and I successfully updated to Cingular 2.06.

Using a MAC

How do I run OS, and rom loaders on a MAC. I would like to load a rom that fixes the wifi problem with my Verizon XV6800. Please can someone help. Thanks
You don't.
Unless your Macintosh has an intel processor and has some sort of Windows emulation (bootcamp parallels, wine, etc.), you can't. There isn't a way to do this straight from OS X.
Syncing your PDA with Mac is easy with the help of The Missing Sync or PocketMAC but updating your firmware, you'll have to use the next best PC in your area.
Good luck
Windows XP
Can anyone send me windows XP so I can duel boot and flash my XV6800 rom? I have parallels but no windows. Thanks

No. That's asking for wares which is against forum policy. You can download a trial from Microsoft and use it that way.
Be careful when running ROM upgrade tools within a VM on a mac. I got stuck in bootloader and the VM wouldn't see my phone at all. I had to find a PC in my closet to break it out I can only say this is true with Parallels though - VMWare may work better in this case but I've got no way of knowing.
try flashing from your microSD card

I had the same trouble.....funny my old treo could be flashed in a Parallels VM with no problem, and ESN repairs on sanyos also work in it.
I noticed that if you keeep the mouse moving, it will be more likely to complete the flash....however that makes no sense!
Thanks
Thanks for the replys. Sorry for asking for wares.

There is no ODIN for mac.
But I'm sure you can get your hands on a PC for an hour or two. Go to a library or a friend's house. C'mon man.
yeah, i am in the same boat. i have no access to a pc
I have struggled with this myself, so you're not alone. Your best bet if you don't want to borrow a windows machine is to stick a copy of Windows on your computer via VMWare Fusion or Boot Camp or what have you.
Run Parallels....or find a friend. What version of OS X are you running?
From my experience even that doesnt work. I tried Odin on my boot camp Windows 7 partition on MacBook Pro with no luck.
Sent from my SGH-T959 using XDA App
yes i am trying it on parallels now but it does not seem to register that the phone is plugged in when i run odin. when i plug it in it does ask me where i would like to mount the phone, OSX or VM and i choose vm but obviously it wont mount in downloading mode (or does it?) but odin doesnt do anything to the phone :/

[Q] RSD and Windows 7 on Parallels

Nowadays, I use my Asus Netbook with WinXP to run RSD. But my girlfriend stole my netbook and now, I only have my macbook pro and I don't want to run Windows with boot camp.
So, the question is: Any of you already tried to use parallels with Win7 64 bits to flash SBF files and do all the other stuffs? I know we must not do some tasks on a virtualized environment, but RSD is running OK and I would like to hear your opinions about this.
I found on other threads people saying that there is no problem flashing roms using parallels, but we are on a motorola environment.
I just want to make sure that I'm not going to brick my phone because of this.
thanks.
I have used RSD using Windows XP & parallels no problem.
I've always paid close attention to the prompts for where to connect the new USB device and have never had any problems. I have done the SBF to unlock the bootloader as well as flash to 1.8.3.
I use moto-fastboot-osx32 for all my fastboot needs.
My version of Parallels is: 6.0.12090 Revision 660720, Windows XP 32 bit SP3 SP3, RSD Lite 5.3.1
Host is a Macbook Pro 6,1 i7 2.6ghz, OSX 10.6.8 (10.6.7 also)
I've always been running on battery when I flashed not that it should make a difference.
Presumably, Windows 7 should function as well.
Hope this is helpful.
I am currently running OS X Snow Leopard 10.6.8 on a Macbook Pro
I use VirtualBox (free, www.virtualbox.org) and I run Windows XP in a virtual environment on my Mac
I can do EVERYTHING you would ever need to do regarding the Atrix -> RSD, fastboot, adb, androidSDK, run scripts from command prompt to apply mods (such as the wake on volume keys and webtopmodhack install.bat files)
Nice to hear that. Don't want to brick my phone because of a stupid thing. It is always good to ask. Thanks for replying.

I haven't had any issues using Parallels 7 w/ Lion / Win7. We're working on Android and iOS though. Not sure about Motorola but I suspect it will work. Good to be sure though.

[Q] Flash GS2 Roms on a Mac

Hey I'm relatively new to this forum but I'll try to keep it short. Does anyone know of a way to flash ROMs to the GS2 or other Android phones on a Mac? I've searched quite a bit but I can't seem to find any way of doing this. If there is no way I'd like to know if there is anyone out there who could make the software to do this. There must be many Android and even Galaxy S2 users who have macs, maybe some of them would like to be able to flash ROMs on OSX.
To reiterate:
1. Is there any way of flashing ROMs on OSX without running a virtual machine?
2. If there are no solutions currently who would I talk to about possibly developing software for OSX to do this?
From my understanding kies for mac is really really terrible and broken, and you can't really flash any rome besides stock ones anyway even using kies (on windows anyway, never tried the mac version)
and odin only works on windows theres no known mac version at all..so we are just stuck either using VM or just good ol bootcamp. Its funny because thats literally the only time i ever boot up windows anymore, when I'm messing with odin.
sucks, but thats the way it is for now...
Try * THIS *
