[Q] Flash GS2 Roms on a Mac - Galaxy S II Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hey I'm relatively new to this forum but I'll try to keep it short. Does anyone know of a way to flash ROMs to the GS2 or other Android phones on a Mac? I've searched quite a bit but I can't seem to find any way of doing this. If there is no way I'd like to know if there is anyone out there who could make the software to do this. There must be many Android and even Galaxy S2 users who have macs, maybe some of them would like to be able to flash ROMs on OSX.
To reiterate:
1. Is there any way of flashing ROMs on OSX without running a virtual machine?
2. If there are no solutions currently who would I talk to about possibly developing software for OSX to do this?

From my understanding kies for mac is really really terrible and broken, and you can't really flash any rome besides stock ones anyway even using kies (on windows anyway, never tried the mac version)
and odin only works on windows theres no known mac version at all..so we are just stuck either using VM or just good ol bootcamp. Its funny because thats literally the only time i ever boot up windows anymore, when I'm messing with odin.
sucks, but thats the way it is for now...

Using a MAC

How do I run OS, and rom loaders on a MAC. I would like to load a rom that fixes the wifi problem with my Verizon XV6800. Please can someone help. Thanks
You don't.
Unless your Macintosh has an intel processor and has some sort of Windows emulation (bootcamp parallels, wine, etc.), you can't. There isn't a way to do this straight from OS X.
Syncing your PDA with Mac is easy with the help of The Missing Sync or PocketMAC but updating your firmware, you'll have to use the next best PC in your area.
Good luck
Windows XP
Can anyone send me windows XP so I can duel boot and flash my XV6800 rom? I have parallels but no windows. Thanks

No. That's asking for wares which is against forum policy. You can download a trial from Microsoft and use it that way.
Be careful when running ROM upgrade tools within a VM on a mac. I got stuck in bootloader and the VM wouldn't see my phone at all. I had to find a PC in my closet to break it out I can only say this is true with Parallels though - VMWare may work better in this case but I've got no way of knowing.
try flashing from your microSD card

I had the same trouble.....funny my old treo could be flashed in a Parallels VM with no problem, and ESN repairs on sanyos also work in it.
I noticed that if you keeep the mouse moving, it will be more likely to complete the flash....however that makes no sense!
Thanks
Thanks for the replys. Sorry for asking for wares.

[Q] Can you update using OSX?

Hi, I've just got an X10 Mini Pro and it's still running 1.6.
Have I seriously got to install Windows on my mac just to update? Are there any tools I can use under OSX (10.6)?
I'm not some Apple fanboy that doesn't want windows. I've tried several times, butI simply don't have room for bootcamp (well I do, but apparently the files are fragmented so I cant setup boot camp).
Anyway, cheers!

[Q] Is there something like ODIN that runs on an Android tablet?

At present I use a netbook to run ODIN so that I can update my I9100 etc.
I would like to be able to use my Android tablet to do this.
Is this possible? i.e. is there s/w like Odin or Heimdall that will run on my tablet and connect to/update my i9100?
I realise that there is Odin mobile which runs on the i9100 but I would still like to be able to run something on an external device in case of a bad flash on i9100.
Thanks

Now from a present and future viewpoint, this would be ideal.
I wouldn't mind ditching the PC very soon, and for that to happen, would need a desktop replacement for Odin.
Anyone know of any development?
Hi upintheair, that's exactly my point. If there was a suitable Odin-like app for my tablet I could put my NetBook on Ebay & recoup some cash

Something like this is very unlikely.
First off, the device running the flashapp would need to have USB OTG / host (ok, I think most tablets do, but I'm not sure).
The bigger problem would be: drivers!
You'd also need some kind of USB drivers for the device you want to flash (the S2 in this case).
Doubfull anyone would do it.
Not impossible, just doubtfull.
There's Mobile ODIN (paid) and SGS Kernel Flasher (free), but I doubt that latter exists for SGS2. Still, it's worth a shot...
@HellcatDroid My tab does have USB OTG but you are right about the drivers. I know it's possible to install a "virtual ubuntu" under android so maybe this would let me run Heimdall? I might give this a go.
@Prasad007 Those are both designed to run on the SGS whereas I want something that runs on an external tab.

This would be great
I am also looking at trying to flash using my tablet, i spend alot of time "fixing "ppl's phones and use a netbook at present, but find it so slow and sometimes seems to stall. I have descovered that adb works great on my Asus Slider (somebody had to get one, and i love it!) but would like to be able to get ODIN working as well.
Any progress / ideas on getting it to work?
Also would a Android tablet need the drivers as it is running Android, and has the adb drivers on it?

Flashing a rom via Heimdall using MAC OSX

Hi guys, I'm a bit frustrated with MAC as I can't flash roms using this crap. I have a PC but don't have access to it at the moment so I'm stuck with MAC OSX(will be stuck using mac for a looong time) and have no choice.
So I've downloaded heimdall a few weeks ago and haven't been able to use it as MAC cannot detect the phone when I put it in download mode and plug it in.
I have no USB drivers installed so i think that's why. I can't find any installers
for MAC.
In the meantime I am using mobile odin to flash all the roms and it's working good so far. I need to learn how to use heimdall on MAC in case my phone gets soft bricked or ends up in boot loop and will have no access to mobile odin. Right now what I do is to restore a NAND backup to revive my phone in case the above mentioned happens.
I don't want to use the NAND restore as much as possible because of the hardbrick(MMC_CAP_ERASE) bug fiasco on ICS kernels.
So if anyone can direct me to a tutorial somewhere or if someone could post a quick tutorial here on how they did it on a MAC that would end my frustration.
Someone suggested to use bootcamp to dual boot MAC and windows but that would require a lot of setup on my end, that would be my last resort
Oh and BTW my phone is a Galaxy Note N-7000 don't even know if its supported/compatible with heimdall

[Q] Computer Won't Recognize i757m

Hey first of all I'm sorry if this is already somewhere on XDA but I really need help.
I have a Galaxy S2 model number SGH-i757m, and I'm trying to root it but I cant get my computer to recognize it.
When it is plugged in it shows that it's charging but it doesn't connect.
I'm using a Mac (if it makes a difference). I've heard that heimdall can screw up your USB ports is it possible that that has happened to me?
I did try it on a different computer and still no luck. I was also wondering if it could possibly be the cord. (I'm using a stock samsung USB cord)
Any help is appreciated.
Thanks
Yes, using a Mac makes a difference. Not from my personal experience, because I've never used one, but from the experience of people on here. People on Macs who post here invariably seem to have problems. I doubt Heimdall can 'screw up your USB ports' tho. That doesn't sound grounded in logic even remotely.
If you're having problems at this early stage & want to make life easy for yourself, get access to a PC. Once you root your phone you won't need either the Mac or a PC (because you'll be able to use CWM) unless you end up with a situation where you need to use Heimdall/Odin to recover.
Edit - There are a bunch of troubleshooting steps which people on here try if Odin doesn't work, I'm sure many of them apply to Heimdall not working as well; search for recent threads where Odin isn't working for people & try those steps (I believe Hopper8 is the most recent person to post these steps in their entirety about a week ago, so searching his posts should help you narrow it down).
