I mean, it's got an Nvidia Tegra 2 in there, right? That has got to count for something? I'm sick of s-s-stuttery framerate on my Nexus One when playing Dungeon Defenders, and the game was practically made to showcase the Tegra 2. So, how does the Folio 100 deal with games in general, and Dungeon Defenders in particular, with or without a custom ROM (which I'm going to flash as soon as I unbox it, if I do end up buying the Folio)?
After CES2011 it will be doing fine, but most HD games out from gameloft are made for the snapdragon cpu, which is not 100% compatible with tegra2.
so the binaries compiles inside the games app's are not working and crash..
some older gameloft games and quite alot market games works fine..
like PocketLegends, but sadly not all the new gameloft updates..
facts, but maybe not good news for gamblers on folio.. but im sure gameloft will fix it when the new tegra2 tablets arrive.

Dungeon defenders works PERFECT on my folio (still foliomod 1.3)
No framedrops, no hangs, just perfect

No, no. Dungeon Defenders is pretty much born for the Tegra 2 (not made by Gameloft either) and it's mostly that I'm interested in--it uses Unreal Engine and all. If I want to play Gameloft's much uglier games, I can do it on my Nexus.

Beautiful, exactly what I wanted to hear. Thanks! I assume you don't need to scale the graphics setting down, either?
Now that that's out of the way, how does it perform as an e-reader? I'm not even sure what kind of panel it's got--LCD, AMOLED? (I'm guessing LCD, since Samsung doesn't make anything bigger than 7 inches available yet.) It's weird how scarce information on the tablet is considering it's the first Android tablet with a Tegra 2 chip, and major tech sites don't seem to want to review it.

I havn't scaled anything up or down, I haven't even opened the settings menu. Just like you i actually was interested in the unreal engine. (i don't like the game so... )
The folio has a crappy '() lcd screen with terrible viewing angles. It is captative, so it responds as it should response, really good. Colors are good to, but the viewing angles...
It is really easy for me to advice you. If you don't care about the screen go and buy the folio, development is already going on and other tablet manufacturers will use the same chipset for now, so we won't miss any special software on the folio.
If you care about the screen and have a couple months patience, than wait and buy the LG/motorolla/acer/... tablet that will be presented on the ces Those will propably be 99% identic to the folio (in hardware)
Ups, didnt know the game :-;

I'm a huge fan of illusion labs games for the iPhone and I was dissopointed to learn there were no games like TouchGrind or Sway for android, so I emailed illusion labs to see if they had any plans to port these games or something similar to android. This is the response I received:
Hello,
I'm glad you like our games. We have no plans at the moment to port those games to android at the moment. One of the reasons is that the performance is much lower on Android.

Low performance seems like a lame excuse to me coming from an owner of a beastly Samsung Vibrant. Also, my iPhone 3G under-performs most android phones by a long shot and plays these games perfectly fine. I think performance is a poor excuse with some of the top selling android devices having GPU's capable of pushing more pixels then the iPhone, like the Galaxy S line.
I think illusion labs is seriously underestimating android and the demand for high quality android games on the platform. My proposal? Show them there is damand! Download labyrinth (illusion labs only android port) rate it and leave comments demanding they port the other games! And email illusion labs at: [email protected]
Tell them how badly android needs quality games and how perfectly capable android is at games.
Some screenshots of what we are missing out on.

Hardware fragmentation is going to be a major issue with Android for gaming. Look what happened with angry birds. They have to develop a light edition for low and mid range phones. When there is no hardware standard this is bound to happen. Sadly I may end up buying a win7 phone in place of my vibrant because of this one problem....which sucks balls. I like good games...not tile puzzles, bejeweled knockoffs and the like. What is the benefit of having the fastest gpu on the market when there's sh*t for games....other than Gameloft.

You don't need to move on to WinMo7, I'm sure you and Illusion Labs are un-aware of the new Hardware requirement list of Gingerbread and the new Gaming API introduced with it for high-end 3D Games. Since this is now going to be a standard requirement for all Android phones, the gaming scenario is soon going to change and be at par or exceeding to that of iOS 4 platform.

They don't have to make games compatible with every android device. Newer idevice games don't work on older idevices, yet there are still 10's of millions of older iwhatevers in use. Android game devs could just target newer devices the same way. Fragmentation is a lame excuse.
I read an interview with John Carmack the other day and he said the lack of commitment to android was mainly do to market issues. Limited download size plus lack of built-in DRM means a lot of back end work. Building and supporting a drm system and servers to deliver the games. Not fun stuff. Makes more sence then fragmentation and hardware limits. Hopefully gingerbread fixes this.

Yea it seems HTC has lost its flare against the awesomeness of Samsung.
I got a reply to the email I sent and thought I should share it here.
Let me explain a bit further what I meant in the mail on the forum.
First of all I think the title of the thread is a bit misguiding. All I wrote in the mail was that we have no plans at moment for those two games. That doesn't mean that we don't have other plans for Android.
The comment on performance may have been a bit short formulated on my part. I know that there are many high performance Android devices that can run any high performance game. But there is also a lot of low end phones that have less performance. The problem is that we can't single out one group and have to release our games on all devices. We always try to get our games to run smooth on all devices they are intended for.
I hope my answer was helpful.
Best Regards
Marcus

Very simple, they make games for the high end and low end just like other developers. That is their loss if they choose not to.

lol sorry but if you want a high quality tablet, this is not for you.. this is a great tablet to jump into the tablet game because of the low-cost but comeon now... its not that powerful..
Hahaha these little crap tablets give Android a bad name! They're saturating the market with low-price, low functionality tablets that virtually NO ONE wants. When it comes to cheap tablets I'm pretty sure the Fire and the Nook will be king (but mostly the Fire), so there's really no reason to have these things. They give ifans a reason to bash Android IMO.
This actually looks better than the Fire to me. I might be a buyer for my 7 year old...Why not? It doesn't look terrible. Wonder if it is completely 100% lead-free? lol
I'm cool with this. Cheaper tablets give us more options. There are people who basically just want a tablet to read ebooks and play the occasional angry birds. That's what's Android all about. Having options.
LOL, looks like asus slacked for too long and got beat by some cheap china tablet company...
You snooze, U loose!
Ohwell, atleast when the prime finally does come out it will have ICS hopefully right around the corner, and hopefully it will make the diffrence we all been looking for.

Different options for different budgets. That's not such a bad thing. But keep in mind this $100 tablet comes with a $60 shipping charge that makes it not so great afterall.

Ditto. If not, could someone describe what the control schemes are like? If it doesn't have gamepad support I'm hoping I could emulate it with a touch profile in the Sixaxis app.

no gameoad support I believe. plus its not needed. the touch controls are great. anywhere you touch on left side of screen an on-screen analog stick will show. transparent. you use that to move. right side of screen you can use your finger to pan around the scene. or tap that side of screen to arm your weapon. then tap again to fire. its very simple and works great. I love that game. have it on my Ipad and now on my prime. still haven't bear it yet. game can get very hard and sure to scare you. best played with headphones on for the full fear and scare effects. plenty of times my woman heard me violating..lol it'll really make you jump..

That is the EXACT type of control scheme that works better on a gamepad. It works "well enough" on a touchscreen, but is by no means at all the better way of controlling. However, you did basically affirm that I will be able to use a touch profile with the game, so that makes me very excited!

As you progress there are points where it'll save automatically. Another place where it saves is when you reach the limitless booth area to upgrade you Welsh n armour with nodes. Also the store to purchase new things at. You will see them if you haven't gotten that far yet.
Bought it since it was on sale, and while the controls are awesome, I really wish it was a port of Dead Space and not just a typical mobile game out of the franchise. I'm sure since Dead Space is a 7.5GB'ish download off Steam that it's sure as heck not gonna be as small a download as Dead Space Mobile, but hey, $10 more than the games usual price and I'd certainly have bought a reduced-graphics-quality port, and already own a copy of the PC version.
I also think the controls would be rather easier to use on my phone than my tablet :'(.

First of all, Hello guys... I'm creating a new thread to address my questions because they are too many, As you can see, I'm selling my current smartphone (Already sold Lol) and I will buy an Android phone, so my choices are between Galaxy S2, and Xperia S, I would love to buy the Xperia S rather than Samsungs Smartphone, but Im dealing with the "yellowish pixels" "screen issues" thingy before I Buy it. Could you guys recommend the better choice, I've heard that the problem was solved long time ago, and screen issues were present on first batches. Btw: I'm buying the phone through Amazon, anything I should be careful of?.
2nd Problem: Good case, I mean... Otterbox Commuter style.
Get the XPS, Samsung has the same yellow tint issues. Before buying make sure your device is w16 or newer, then you should be fine.

Thanks for the reply mate, Like I said i have no access whatsoever, related to buying an specific batch or something like that. (Here I mean buying buying products released on date xx/xx/xxxx or something really specific). I'm buying the device through Amazon... and well I guess despite the screen issue I might be going for the XS. The Galaxy I'm talking about is the 9100G, Is it really true that it comes with 1.08ghz clocked (cpu) and a PowerVR SGX 540... as far as I know, adreno beats up the SGX and the Mali.. I'm i wrong??
Any Suggestions about a really good case? (amazon)

The 220 is about the same in terms of raw power, but some say the SGX540 performs better in games. I don't see any difference myself, the UI is smooth, the browser is fast and I don't really care about games too much.

Yes benchmarks wise the Adreno 220 in the Xperia S is more powerful than Mali 400 in GS2 and Note and of course the SGX is slower than Mali.

Plays all my anime just fine in 720p. Sometimes lag happens in 1080p, but very rarely. Don't know about the cases, I keep the phone in my backpack.
Hello,
I'm using Xperia S despite other people i will not recommend it. It has so much problems and i did not like Sony custommer service and concern.
If i had a chance i would have bought Samsung Galaxy S3.
And one more thing, if you are making supernormal phone calls, ayou should compare SAR leveles.
Xperia S 1.31 w/kg and it is over normal levels..
I like the size of the SXS less, because using it with one hand is not easy , But well all these phones with these specs are big (also screen)
The closest thing to a otterbox case i have seen would be this one probably (2 layers):

I dont know why, but GSMArena has changed the SAR value (EU, head) from 1,30 to 0,78W/Kg!
So did the official SONY SAR value info here!!!
So guys, I would like to buy my first tablet, and i'm indecised between shield k1 and Nexus 9, I was also thinking about the galaxy tab s2 9.7 but it's too pricey for what it offers IMHO. I'll use the tab mainly for media consumption (heavy games, browsing, movies, emails).
From I first started researching infos about the Nexus 9 it's immediatly appeared all the frequent issues that comes with this device (Light bleed and unoptimized performance) but all these things were related to the Lollipop version of android, and now with the Marshmallow/N version seems better, so this is my question: it's still worth to buy this device? Does the performance are really fixed now or there still many cases of lag/crashes (as appear to me)?
I really like "+1 inch size" than the shield but seems this device is just heavily compromised (as performace), and all these things are leading me to buy the Shield K1. As a final note, I like to use stock android version, and seems that with the Nexus 9 the real game change comes when you install a new ROM, do you confirm this?
Any input will be appreciated, so don't be afraid

Personally, as much as I adore my n9, I'd probably go k1. I prefer the size of the n9, the 4:3, great devs, and in hand feel. Other than that though, Google dropped the ball with Vulcan, and nVidia has been going great with updates.
I'm also interested in Lenovos new tablets.
@jimmix93 do yourself a favor and get a pixel c. It is worth the 100-150 dollars extra imo.

TBH, i'm in love with google pixel C, but I can only find it on Ebay on a very high price, not lower than 650 $, so that's why I choosed these two tablets, espcially the K1 for it's price.

Mee too i'm interested, but I don't think they will be at same level (as raw power) as K1 or Nexus 9. We'll see
I got mine off swapa for $200 a few months ago. personally I think it's still a relevant device. Turning encryption off, and a kernel with 2amp charging really helps. It takes out the frustration. Most complaints about the device come down to speed and charging.
Not over clocked my AnTuTu benchmark awhile ago on pre-released 7 was 101k. Remix 3 was around 95. On official N (no encryption, oc) getting 107k. My point is behind the benchmarks is it's keeping up with the devices still out there, and they're the only way to show over the Internet that it doesn't feel slow.

Personally I have the N9, my son the Nvidia, so I can compare...
When you want to stay 'standard' (no tweaking / custom ROM/Kernel) , buy the Shield. Standard out of the box working very well.
When you are not afraid to root, tweak en flash.... Buy the N9. Out of the box I was not satisfied about the snappiness and use custom kernels to fullfil it.
Suc6 choosing ?
