I'll buy it from you,how much you want for it?

Great hardware, beautiful screen, and the Nexus S MAY lead to gingerbread soon. The ui is incredible and it's VERY hard to brick.

Our Dev support is amazing as well. A rooted/Rom'd Vibrant is pretty much the best it can get IMO.

It's a top-end device that should have 2.3 soon. It has the best screen and video chip of any android phone (except possibly the Nexus S), amazing for gaming and movies ... and basically everything. The contrast and brightness of this screen is unbelievable. Resolution is second only to the iPhone 4. Great dev support -- run Team Whiskey's "Nero" ROM
TL;DR
KEEP THE PHONE!

Maybe some hacked up dev version of 2.3, but it's not getting official 2.3 anytime soon, most likely never.
The question no one asked is what getting the free vibrant did for your handset upgrade qualification? If you can't get the full discount to upgrade for another 20 months or so, it might not be that great of a deal. The new, dual core phones with 2.3 will probably be out in February.

If it was free, and you aren't loaded, I would def keep it. I love my phone, and all the new roms coming out make me fall in love all over again each flash. I'm kind of a gadget geek, and I am constantly wanting the latest and greatest. I'm thinking about biting the bullet and getting the new mytouch 4g.

Nexus S has the same processor and GPU as Galaxy S

I think the general consensus on these forums would be that you need to root it, and ROM it. The stock android release that ships on it is littered with problems that power users like us can't handle, and Samsung doesn't have a thing on current vibrant developers who consistently make the phone amazing.
That said, 10,000,000 of these things have been sold and most people are oblivious to the issues on this phone. They use it and it's incredible hardware without issue.

@brian_ventura Tuesday and weds they were runnig a promo for free vibrants for contracts and upgrades..
Does anyone know if I can eliminate the data plan or is it part of the 2yr contact??

Until the dual core phones come out, the Vibrant is the best phone money can buy IMO. It has the best screen in the business, a great loud speaker, super fast CPU and GPU, lots of memory and memory expansion, tough as nails to brick and the best developer support on the planet.

[Q] The Horns of Dilemma

So I just bought a Vibrant last week.
Then Samsung/Tmobile releases news that a vibrant 4g is in the works.
Now I'm on the fence on whether to sell my Vibrant and pick up a Nexus S.
I love the vibrant, especially in rooted and custom rom form, but I'm not a coder and terrible at understanding how this works so making a custom rom for myself is kinda out right now.
But like most people on this forum, I'm not happy with the fact that Samsung has kinda abandoned the customers that originally bought the first iteration of the Galaxy S from tmobile.
I've noticed that support for the phone from developers on xda has taken a subtle downturn.
I really really appreciate the efforts of tw and other dedicated developers, but without source code for vibrant for 2.2/2.3 and other android versions, how long can developers keep this up for?
I didn't want the nexus s as I see it as another galaxy s phone (fragmentation anyone?), but with its vanilla android versions and constant support from Google, I see it having longevity over the Vibrant.
I figured if Samsung were to release official froyo for the vibrant soon then nothing to worry about, but with the impending release of the vibrant 4g.......well hopefully you understand what I'm getting at.
Am I completely off the mark on this one? Is there something I'm not understanding? What are your guys/girls opinion?
Dude, there is Android 2.3.1 from Nexus S ported to my old HTC HD2 and it's working fine and bug-less. Meanwhile you are waiting for 2.2, who is a *****?
woah woah, exploit.. calm down
Any ways, back to your dilemma, i think sticking with the vibrant is what u shood do personally, but if you have the money to afford a nexus s i say go for it.. rite now i dont have to worry about the vibrant 4g or nexus competing with my vibrant cuz there all basically the same, it kinda jus matters where your at. If you have 4g coverage go get a 4g phone, if not stick with the vibrant and install a FFC and you basically have a Vibrant 4G or Nexus S
If you just bought it last week, take it back. You can get the Nexus S now with that upgrade or wait for the Vibrant Plus.
If you keep it, you will be kicking yourself in a few months when you can't take it back anymore.
It still depends on where he lives, the Vibrant is a true competitor phone and with sum serious development it cood be one of the best. The only thing it lacks is the 4g that the Nexus S and Vibrant plus have which if he doesnt even have 4g coverage it wont matter if he has 4g

Thats where the dilemma lies, serious development.
Is it going to persist for at least the next 6 months to a year?
Even the nexus one has strong support from 3rd party developers, I would hate to see the vibrant disappear into yesterdays technology so quickly because of a lack of developer support.
btw, I've tried understanding some of this geekspeak, but my knowledge on this stuff is too rudimentary for me to make my own rom.
Technology I love you, but why are you doing this too me?
I won't be getting 4g coverage anytime soon, but its developer support that makes the horns of dilemma rear its sharp points towards me
yeah thats what im hoping for too is long term development, but think about the Behold 2.. it was only sposed to get 1.6 and out of no where got 2.2.1
And to make sure that development doesnt stop with the vibrant im going to be trying to learn all the stuff that it takes to build roms and do all that fun stuff..
Dont worry i wont let you down
You get 14 days to return it no questions asked! No need to sell it!
If you're having second thoughts just return it and wait for the new one!
Personally I would wait for the new phones with dual processor like the LG or something like that!
The Vibrant is so 2010! Lol!
I love my Vibrant, but I know something bigger and better is around the corner!
Just my 2¢!
Rockin that Nero 4.1 w/Voodoo + s.b.g.2.3
Take it back while you can. The Vibrant is a GREAT phone and still is very capable but since you just started your contract you should return it because it appears that Samsung is kicking Vibrant to the curb in favor of the Plus. The Plus is starting out with Froyo while the Vibrant is still stuck on Eclair. I dont know what the Devs will do but it wouldnt surprise me if they abandon the Vibrant.
yeah but then even after that sumthin big and better comes around another sumthing big and better comes around... so no matter what you do ur gonna be S.O.L.
they wont abandon the vibrant.. i wont at least.
seriously the Behold 2 2.2.1 rom is absolutely mind blowing since samsung dropped it with only android 1.6
it jus shows that anything is possible with todays technology

Yeah, this is exactly what I'm trying to avoid doing. I'm Canadian, tmobile doesn't operate up here, but we have an AWS provider that offers unlimited plans. So its a buy and sell situation here. I won't have any problems selling this phone but it can be a hassle.
I love this phone.
Its slick, fast, and has everything I need except proper software.
Dglowen I hear you brother (or sister). I want to be optimistic about this phone and I think it'll continue having support, but I have a feeling it'll be fringe support rather then mainstream.
Man I need to learn to code.......
don't get the 4g if you're going to return your vibrant. get the nexus S. the new vibrant is not worth it.

Haha, "starting out" with Froyo? Based on Samsung's history, good chance 2.2 will be the last official release for it.
If he gets the plus, won't the plus be the ugly stepsister in a few months when Samsung wants to push their next phone.
Take the Vibrant back and wait.
If I was in your sitch I would use the return window. If you have a handset that you can use for the time being wait for the dual core that should be coming.
Don't blame me, blame my keyboard's autocorrection algorithm.
Yeah idk.. i think that keeping a vibrant wood be worth it but its always kool to have the latest fone out too.. even tho i been sayin keep the vibrant, it wood make more sense to get the newer fone
Whatever I decide, I just hope that the support for this phone continues and doesn't disappear quietly into the night. It definitely deserves official and mainstream support imo.

Vibrant for HD7?

I found some chick on Craigslist who got an HD7 a week ago and wants to trade it straight across for a Vibrant, presumably because she does not like WP7.
What would you guys do? I was thinking of doing it for 2 reasons:
1) I will get to try out WP7 in a real world scenario and get my own opinion on it.
2) I know the HD7 is worth WAY more than Vibrant right now, so if I did not like it I know I could resell it on CL and get a different Vibrant or anything else really, perhaps even walk out of the deal ahead a few bucks. I don't see this as taking advantage of someone, they have the means to see the values of certain phones and still want to do this straight up.
What say y'all?
PS- I think I am spoiled by my rooted and ROM'd Vibrant, I believe that if it were stock I would probably not even need to pose the question to you guys, as I would jump on HD7 in a heartbeat. I am just glad the Vibrant was not my first Android phone, or it would have soured me to Android unecessarily.
I was thinking about getting one as second handset. It's a nice looking phone, I hear it's a very smooth experience. I personally think it would be limiting coming from an android OS. But I would consider it.
Don't blame me, blame my keyboard's autocorrection algorithm.
Kind of what I had in mind exactly. If the hardware wasn't so sexy I might not think twice about it. I wish I could see into the future to see how WP7 will grow.
I do know that WP7 does not offer Rhapsody and I am a total Rhapsody junkie, so I would be pretty bummed. I know they have Zune, but from what I hear it's not as expansive a library and it would cost me money, whereas with Rhap I have a way to get it for free.
HD7 for vibrant
I traded my Hd7 for a vibrant. HD7 is a great phone, and the wp7 is a great new operating system. But I got bored within 2 weeks. The apps right now are mostly pure junk. Simple junky ones are charging 1.99+ on the marketplace. That will hopefully change in the future. But as of right now i was bored out of my mind with it so I went back to my nexus one, then i traded the hd7 for the vibrant.
Good to know, thanks for the input.

lol probably because most people know an HD7 is worth way more than a Vibrant. It's gonna be REALLY hard for you once the Galaxy S 4G drops.
Dont look at the phone, look at the services. Android Market is way better than Win 7. Also Open source vs Closed source.
I had an hd7 for about 8days or so, and I traded for a Vibrant, as someone said up there, It got boring, I like to oc, and play with my settings, and make the phone me, while Multitasking in the background while hd7 can't really do much YET (who knows)

Yeah that's my biggest concern too. I have no doubt that WP7 is a sexy UI, but I LOVE the ability to multitask and all the customization options that Android offers. I am a little concerned about getting bored of stock WP7 too.

That's definitely something I had in mind. It seems win-win for me. If I like it, hey cool. If I don't just come back to Android and maybe profit. Are there any other offerings on t-mo that are comparable to the Vibrant. I don't much like the MT4G...

Well I did it. Last night I traded my Vibrant for the HD7. I immediately was not a fan of how simplistic the OS is. I mean the phone itself is beautiful, and the software is smooth as butter, but it will take some getting used to. I figure I'll give it until the SGS 4G drops. That will devalue the current Vibrant I think, and at that point I can decide if I want to sell this thing and go back or I'll know if WP7 will grow on me.
Moved of: Samsung Vibrant > Vibrant General
To: Samsung Vibrant > Vibrant Q&A
Please put your questions to: Vibrant Q&A
Two reasons I'm hesitant to use another OS. ability to dl torrents directly to phone, and fast, ability to dl free music at will. Also the apps are ones that aren't available that I use daily. But I'd love to hear more of your continued experience with this phone. I'm still considering one, though I think a dual core 4.3 handset is around the corner from what I hear.
Don't blame me, blame my keyboard's autocorrection algorithm.

Sad at how inactive this section of the XDA forums are. When presented with the opportunity to get a Galaxy Tab 8.9 or an HTC Jetstream for cheaper, I feel I should've first spent some time scoping out the modding community on these tablets before committing to a purchase. Why is HTC Jetstream development dead when we have unlocked bootloaders and root? Are we waiting for something to happen or just developers? Just even more users in general, perhaps?
I am an active developer/programmer with 5+ languages under my belt, products including Android/iPhone apps, but I've never attempted kernel and/or ROM development and honestly wouldn't know where to start.
Would love for ICS to be on this beast... it's still very nice hardware. Not as slim as the Galaxy Tab, but still a beast.
the main problem is that when the device was new it was expensive. so very little people actually bought it.
the community was tiny, but we got two developers to come. task650 and doomlord.
they mainly came because there a was a bounty for rooting the device. after that occured, they vanished. can't blame them.
i think that now there are alot more users but none of which are developers.
so we're screwd. perhapes HTC will be nice enough to update the device to ICS one day...
I still check in here everyday, but am never surprised to see that nothing new is there. I do remember capychimp had popped in and said he wanted to do a rom, but I never heard anything back from him.
At&T software update at the end of january is very helpful. Doomlord help a lot with root and recovery, kernel. We have got unlocked bootloader. I've paid almost 900$ to got this device from AT&T without contract with scribe pen and I unlocked it for 25$ so I was able to use here in my country Hungary, successfully rooted, updated, debloated. Now HTC please update to 3.2 or ICS. Or somebody please make s-off
Galaxy tab 10.1 3G 16gb is 500$ simfree here in my country so Jetstream for 900$ very expensive
Galaxy tab 8.9 3G 440$ sim free
Like galaxy s2 is 500$

Well, I am a capable and willing developer, but I also have a full time job. And I understand the bounty, don't blame them either. I don't require the bounty for motivation though for getting ICS on this since I own it. I just don't believe I could set aside enough time or have enough know-how around custom ROM development to lead a project. Though, like I said, very willing to help.

Eek, $900 is very expensive... I got it in a deal where you could get a Galaxy S2 Skyrocket for free if you got the Galaxy Tab 8.9. Asked if it applied to the HTC Jetstream as well, and they agreed. So I got that one instead since it was a bit cheaper, under contract of course.

Seems Task650 and CarpeNoctem have released their custom roms. May be you could break heads with them and help bring out a really good release and may be even try out for ICS. Here is hoping for the best.
I got the Jetstream for $699 off contract as bought it on Black Friday sale. Getting it sim free costed me $25 - so in all spent $724 which amounts to close to Rs. 36000 as I live in India. Spent another Rs. 8000 ($ 40) for the screen gaurd and a gel case though. Comparing it with Galaxy Tab that was available around same time for Rs. 33000 ($660), I still find the Jetstream a big bargain considering its specs and the Scribe pen which has been a big boon for me. Yes of course have to wait for upgrades, etc which can get frustrating but I really do not mind as even the stock device solved a lot of my time and helped a lot. Anything more is like a bonus. Thanks to HTC for this wonderful device and thanks to all the developers in the community who are trying their best to make this device even better than it is.

Yes very expensive. I bought it last year October almost after official luanch from AT$T retail store. I live in Hungary so I need it without commitment. I paid 849$ + tax for it and I didnt got the free scribe pen I paid 25 for the unlock and I use it here in Hungary and worked perfectly for me.
Im worked for a GSM service company. We will repair, service, update, unlock, cell phones and much more so I will bought the scribe pen and accessories from my wholesealer very cheap and Im very happy with my tablet but software support is a little bit dissapointing for me:S I hope soon we will get ICS or some OS upgrade.
Waiting for S-OFF!!!!
I think ICS will put this tablet to Heaven Strong hadware, good screen...

None of the roms works correctly and none is updated recently!
Whats up with that? Should i just make my flyer stock and sell it or is there still hope for it?
depends on what you're looking for out of the flyer. I personally jumped ship for the nexus 7 and couldn't be happier, although I do miss pen input a lot. everyone has just had classes start so if they are in high school or college that can also cause a slow down. the flyer isn't dead yet!

I really hope so. And no i do not use the pen at all.
The only reason i bought the Flyer wash because it was cheap. 1000Kr ($175) about 1½ year ago. Today it's installed in to my car dashbord.
I would love nothing more than to buy the Nexus series. For the sole reason of quick updates. But only Nexus and Nexus S phones is sold in Denmark.
Honestly Ira the same reason i bought it, i live in Sweden though.

If Dexter isn't working actively anymore on the device, than sadly agree that development is pretty much dead. Hate to say such things, since if any devs are working on this device, its probably a bit of a discouragement for them to see threads talking about development being dead. But its really not looking good. Its sad to go into Development day after day, week after week, and see nothing updated or new.
Such a beautiful piece of hardware that too at dirt cheap rates and alas! no further development on this.
Long back I had an optimus one (600 mh) and sold it about a year back. It's such a small piece of hardware compared to our heavenly HTC flyer, but development on this phone is going on amazing well. It's having unofficial cm 10 as well.
Chaosz was going so well.
I wish and hope as this device will further be sold at even more reduced prices, even used ones, some interested developers might still pick up this device and.contine the development.
But for the time being it seems certainly dead.
There is still hope that Chaos and Dexter will collaborate and maybe combine the best of their ROMs, so that we could get a better JB for the Flyer, they only need some free time. So, until they are gone from this section - the development is not dead yet.

Okay, I'm considering "downgrading" to this.
Do you think it's a lot faster?
What rom is recomended?
Can you get rid of the horrible default set shortcuts in the bottom of the homescreen?

Your experiance dealing with Flyer will be lot faster. With proper luncher ull have same feeling like on ICS/JB (holo launcher - highlly recomended).
As for rom prolly best would be FlyHIGH.

Its probably the one of fastest out there for our device. I recommend stock htc with sense. You can change those shortcuts to what you prefer. I say give it a chance for a day.
You know, these devs create ROMs for free.
Dexter is still working on JellyBean and has a version 1.7 out that's really good and works as a daily driver. Perhaps we should organise some money to say thank you?
I know a bunch got burnt donating to DG for nothing to appear, but if a rom has already been released, can't hurt to contribute to the developer to keep going.
thanks to Dexter

i wholeheartedly agree. Dexter continues to look out for us despite having a GNote2. And really because of him the flyer isnt dead yet. and for the longest time he was doing it without a donate button. i noticed that just recently he had a donate button. i suggest that those who appreciate his efforts throw some beer money his way [or whatever his choice of libation may be:laugh:]
Dexter working very hard now. I'm believe that he make perfect ROM for us.
I wanna donate to him, but i haven't money for it now. :C

Why is there so less interest in developing/modding Galaxy ALpha?

Hello friends, i use smartphones for a long time now and i love this forum. I remember the first ROM i downloaded from here, it was for the HTC Charmer and it is many years ago. I had beautiful and useful ROMs for my Galaxy S2, S3, S4 but now i got a Galaxy Alpha and i am a little bit disappointed because there is only one ROM for it - why? Is there no interest? Is the phone too new? Is it so difficult to modify the code?
Thanks in advance
I'm interesting to...

Well you don't seem so with small replies like that.
Seriously tho, this phone isn't available in the US besides AT&T and it's seriously locked down. Not selling a phone in the US isn't the end all be all but it really does cut out a pretty big owner base and on top of having a secure boot loader there's no reason to buy it to dev on. It sucks because it's a pretty good phone for people who don't want a phablet.
I'm toooo
Sent from my SM-G850F using XDA Premium 4 mobile app
Probably didnt sell well.

Ok thank you, now i understand, didn't knew that. Well so i maybe should have taken an S5 instead but the Alpha looks so good...
the other reason , there are barely love for small device anymore in most Asian country.
bigger = better ?
maybe another reason is that 5.0 is coming soon
This is still a very new device and is targeted at a 'top end' user base.
Whilst the US carrier-exclusive deal will not be helping and the small form factor of the phone will put a lot of people off, it is still a superb device and custom ROMs will come in time I feel sure, but will never be on the scale of the amount available for mass-market handsets like the S4 or S5.
