[Q] Is all ICE/JB deployment for Flyer stopped? - HTC Flyer, EVO View 4G

Is all ICE and JB deployment stopped for the Flyer?
None of the roms works correctly and none is updated recently!
Whats up with that? Should i just make my flyer stock and sell it or is there still hope for it?

depends on what you're looking for out of the flyer. I personally jumped ship for the nexus 7 and couldn't be happier, although I do miss pen input a lot. everyone has just had classes start so if they are in high school or college that can also cause a slow down. the flyer isn't dead yet!

I really hope so. And no i do not use the pen at all.
The only reason i bought the Flyer wash because it was cheap. 1000Kr ($175) about 1½ year ago. Today it's installed in to my car dashbord.
I would love nothing more than to buy the Nexus series. For the sole reason of quick updates. But only Nexus and Nexus S phones is sold in Denmark.

Honestly Ira the same reason i bought it, i live in Sweden though.
Sent from my HTC Hero using xda app-developers app

Looks dead to me
Flyer

yea does not look promising anymore ; Dexter away on other devices and out of options, Chaos never really return after vacations - asked for remote acces PC wich he never decide to use after set up,... so more or less game ower as far as software goes. Try to find optimum out of what we have; i use GB and works awsome for me.
As for Lee - will see -maybee but prolly not.

Stock gingerbread is the way to go no doubt.

Okay, I'm considering "downgrading" to this.
Do you think it's a lot faster?
What rom is recomended?
Can you get rid of the horrible default set shortcuts in the bottom of the homescreen?

If Dexter isn't working actively anymore on the device, than sadly agree that development is pretty much dead. Hate to say such things, since if any devs are working on this device, its probably a bit of a discouragement for them to see threads talking about development being dead. But its really not looking good. Its sad to go into Development day after day, week after week, and see nothing updated or new.

Such a beautiful piece of hardware that too at dirt cheap rates and alas! no further development on this.
Long back I had an optimus one (600 mh) and sold it about a year back. It's such a small piece of hardware compared to our heavenly HTC flyer, but development on this phone is going on amazing well. It's having unofficial cm 10 as well.
Chaosz was going so well.
I wish and hope as this device will further be sold at even more reduced prices, even used ones, some interested developers might still pick up this device and.contine the development.
But for the time being it seems certainly dead.

There is still hope that Chaos and Dexter will collaborate and maybe combine the best of their ROMs, so that we could get a better JB for the Flyer, they only need some free time. So, until they are gone from this section - the development is not dead yet.

Your experiance dealing with Flyer will be lot faster. With proper luncher ull have same feeling like on ICS/JB (holo launcher - highlly recomended).
As for rom prolly best would be FlyHIGH.

Its probably the one of fastest out there for our device. I recommend stock htc with sense. You can change those shortcuts to what you prefer. I say give it a chance for a day.

You know, these devs create ROMs for free.
Dexter is still working on JellyBean and has a version 1.7 out that's really good and works as a daily driver. Perhaps we should organise some money to say thank you?
I know a bunch got burnt donating to DG for nothing to appear, but if a rom has already been released, can't hurt to contribute to the developer to keep going.

thanks to Dexter

i wholeheartedly agree. Dexter continues to look out for us despite having a GNote2. And really because of him the flyer isnt dead yet. and for the longest time he was doing it without a donate button. i noticed that just recently he had a donate button. i suggest that those who appreciate his efforts throw some beer money his way [or whatever his choice of libation may be:laugh:]

Dexter working very hard now. I'm believe that he make perfect ROM for us.
I wanna donate to him, but i haven't money for it now. :C

I was hoping some vibrant owners could give me some first hand testimony about the device that could help me make my decision, of course im gonna root it and i browsed at the development section and it looks like there some really intresting stuff going on in there, which is a great sign!!
So any input is greatly appreciated!!

Great hardware, beautiful screen, and the Nexus S MAY lead to gingerbread soon. The ui is incredible and it's VERY hard to brick.
Our Dev support is amazing as well. A rooted/Rom'd Vibrant is pretty much the best it can get IMO.

It's a top-end device that should have 2.3 soon. It has the best screen and video chip of any android phone (except possibly the Nexus S), amazing for gaming and movies ... and basically everything. The contrast and brightness of this screen is unbelievable. Resolution is second only to the iPhone 4. Great dev support -- run Team Whiskey's "Nero" ROM
TL;DR
KEEP THE PHONE!

Maybe some hacked up dev version of 2.3, but it's not getting official 2.3 anytime soon, most likely never.
The question no one asked is what getting the free vibrant did for your handset upgrade qualification? If you can't get the full discount to upgrade for another 20 months or so, it might not be that great of a deal. The new, dual core phones with 2.3 will probably be out in February.
If it was free, and you aren't loaded, I would def keep it. I love my phone, and all the new roms coming out make me fall in love all over again each flash. I'm kind of a gadget geek, and I am constantly wanting the latest and greatest. I'm thinking about biting the bullet and getting the new mytouch 4g.

Nexus S has the same processor and GPU as Galaxy S
I think the general consensus on these forums would be that you need to root it, and ROM it. The stock android release that ships on it is littered with problems that power users like us can't handle, and Samsung doesn't have a thing on current vibrant developers who consistently make the phone amazing.
That said, 10,000,000 of these things have been sold and most people are oblivious to the issues on this phone. They use it and it's incredible hardware without issue.

Until the dual core phones come out, the Vibrant is the best phone money can buy IMO. It has the best screen in the business, a great loud speaker, super fast CPU and GPU, lots of memory and memory expansion, tough as nails to brick and the best developer support on the planet.

Pauls ROM reviews. viperROM review + interviews with -viperboy- and Vinchenzop

Hello everyone, I decided to start a little something called "Pauls ROM reviews" where I give you the low down on the hottest ROMs for the EVO 3D and give you some information about the developer/developing team and a little information and background about the people behind the ROMS. I figured this would be a fun way to get to know our developers more personally and to learn more about their work, and some of their future plans. Too often I feel we take them for granted so I thought giving you all some more information about the developers we can build more personal relationships so we can all understand one another better. I feel this will help build a stronger community and set us apart from some of the other forums on XDA.
This is very much an "average joe" review and is in no way claiming to be or attempting to be editorial quality material, structure, or content. This is meant to be a brief "feel" for what the ROM is about and what I think are the benefits of it, so please be gentle.
Today we are going to dive into viperROM, arguably one of the most popular ROMS. The viperROM thread is hot right now, a lot of people are excited about this ROM and its getting a lot of downloads and attention. The developers of this ROM are really on top of their game, are online often answering questions and being really helpful when people have problems. I feel they have a great dedication to their fan base and really care about their input and concerns, so I figured this would be a great place to start for a first ROM. Plus this is one of my favorite ROMs right now, so I really wanted to help spread the word out there for those of you still on the fence about rooting or maybe trying this ROM. I guarantee you: you want to try it! This is really great stuff guys.
First I would like to drive right into the ROM and go over some of its features with you. To set the record straight this will not be an insanely lengthy, long editorial over every single feature of the ROM. I will only be discussing some of the things I find most relevant and that other people will find relevant. Any questions about other features that aren't mentioned here should be directed to the viperROM thread in the Android Development section of the EVO 3D forums.
First and foremost I find the battery life to be good. Considering the screen on this phone I didn't expect it to be amazing, but I can typically make it about 8-10 hours with a lot of usage throughout the day at work texting and internet browing a lot of the day with the phone awake most of the time. I consider this pretty good. If you aren't an extremely heavy user it wouldn't surprise me if you could squeeze a good 15 hours or more out of this ROM if you have decent reception where you are at.
One of the great things about this ROM is the OC script that is built into the ROM. I really like this, because I feel that it is one less app running in the background consuming space and battery, and I think overall a script like this is probably more efficient than an application governing the CPU. It is quite simple to run and allows the governor of your sleep state and awake state, as well as all the clock speeds your particular kernel allows.
Hotspot is unlocked as well, ads are blocked, there are memory tweaks in the ROM, and a lot of bloatware we don't use has also been removed. Luckily for those who do want some of these apps, viper was courteous enough to leave the zip files on the SD card to install at your leisure. The four in one boot option is something that is really nice as well. There are other great additions to the ROM; I would recommend reading about them over in the development thread as these things are what are most important to me. One other thing, this ROM has one hell of a theme. It really looks great and is quite appealing to the eyes. Many people have a lot of positive feedback on it, so if you are an eye candy lover this should be a treat for you. Now I want to tell you about the best part of this ROM..
This is the true icing on the cake. Not only is this ROM feature rich and does not sacrifice any HTC Sense features for those of you who love Sense ROMS, but it runs FASTER than any other Sense ROM I have had the pleasure of running in the development section. For me, this runs faster than even the stripped Sense ROMs. That really says something to me; these guys did a fantastic job of optimizing here. They not only provided a feature rich package for us, but it runs so damn fast. I am running it at the default 1188MHz without a stutter or a hiccup in speeds. I highly recommend Opera Browser on this ROM as well, it is butter smooth, scrolling up and down pages is absolutely flawless and lag free. This is more than I could say for the stock ROM. I suspect a lot of this might be due to the GPU acceleration which was added in RC 1.3. For those of you who have tried this ROM before but might be using something else, you need to flash ViperROM RC 1.3. You won't be disappointed!
The main point about this ROM that I'd like to get out to you all is that if you want a ROM that doesn’t sacrifice HTC Sense and has stellar performance this is the one for you. There are a lot of options out there right now and a lot of you are overwhelmed and don't know where to start. This is where you should start; I feel this is the bar for Sense ROMs right now. Start with viperROM and then compare other ROMs; I don't think you'll regret it.
Go here to check out a full list of features. Read the first couple posts: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1192628
Next it's time to meet -viperboy- and Vinchenzop, they are working on this ROM together and are a formidable team. I am going to ask them a bunch of questions. We will get to know these two developers a bit better, learn more about the ROM, their future plans for ViperROM and more. Let’s begin!
-viperboy- interview:
1. Tell us a bit about you, some of your hobbies and interests, what you like doing in your free time or whatever else you'd like your fans to know.
"Well, Android is my biggest hobby without a doubt. I do love cars as well, my daily driver is an 02 Nissan Maxima 6MT with about 5k in motor work (10k+ into the car total), quite the sleeper! haha I have a wonderful circle of friends that I know I can always count on and a wonderful girlfriend who puts up with all my Android nonsense lol
I used to work for Verizon Wireless as an In-Store Technician. I was very good at what I did, getting calls from District Managers 150+ miles away asking me how to solve major customer issues, leading conference calls to entire districts to fill them in on new technology and information we should know about (pulled many an article to share from Droid-Life and EngadgetMobile!), and, most importantly, making my customers happy. I am a people-pleaser and I did everything I could to make a customer happy, including honoring warrantys on rooted phones
I loved my job but I had to leave my full-time job at Verizon Wireless to work part-time at Best Buy so I could go back to school. I am a Multi-Channel Sales Associate (aka "Store *****" - the person you talk to on the phone when you call and ask me annoying questions like "Do you have one of them iPod 2 tablet things??") Everyone at works knows I'm nuts about phones and Android and I used to work in Best Buy Mobile and brought alot of my talent over there. I pretty much got everyone on the Android train and taught people how to mod their own phones! Quite a beautiful thing!
I currently attend Penn State University persuing a degree in Information Science and Technology. One day, I would love to work for HTC or one of the other OEMs with my dream job being working for Google in their Android division!"

2. How long have you been developing on the Android platform?
"I have been deving for Android for less than 6 months but I've learned so much, it's insane! Right now, my big projects are viperROM and viperMOD Voltage Control. viperROM is my first ROM and I've created and I'm very proud to put my name on it. viperMOD Voltage Control has been about 4 months in the making, starting out as a fairly simple shell script and now the app is almost complete! I found that I really enjoy shell scripting the deeper I got into viperMOD and I would consider that my "specialty"."

3. How do you feel about the future of the EVO 3D? Do you feel there are great things to come and still more potential to be unlocked in this phone?
"I think there is a great future for the EVO 3D! This phone has some of the best specs out there right now and the hardware is incredibly powerful, so there are many things going its way. There are a huge amount of ROMs out not even a week since we had S-OFF which I think really says how much interest there is in this phone. I would say that within the next month you will see some very amazing things starting to happen to this phone, so yes, plenty of potential still left in this phone (overclocking and tweaking the GPU, powerful custom kernels, etc)"

4. What about the EVO 3D inspired you to know you wanted to develop for it? Is the EVO 3D your primary phone? If not what is?
"Truthfully, the hardware was the main draw for me. I didn't care much about the 3D part of the phone, although it is a cool "Look what my phone can do!" feature. I really see some tremendous potential in the hardware (And software too). Yes, the EVO 3D is my primary phone. I used to have an HTC EVO 4G before this and almost every Verizon Android phone when I worked for them - D1, DInc, DX (most recent phone when I left). My Dad, stepsister, stepmom, brother, and girlfriend all have Android's (EVO 3D, HTC Hero, Samsung Epic, HTC EVO Shift, and Samsung Captivate, respectively) but my mom and stepdad are too technically challened to want an Android lol"

5. What made you choose to develop on the Android platform? Have you ever considered WebOS or iOS? What are your feelings about these platforms?
"I have had alot of phones in my day, even when I was in grade school and high school I would call Sprint and play the retention game and get new phones literally every few months. My Dad never cared as long as hit bill wasn't messed up lol I started over on SprintUsers.com working with BitPim to mod the RAZR2 and posting guides on how to work with it at the age of about 13/14. Once I found how much fun it was to modify phones, that was it! I moved away from dumbphones and started to get into smartphones. I had phones WinMo phones like the Moto Q, HTC Mogul, and HTC Touch. That was my platform of choice until I go into Blackberry. I really liked how solid they were and I wasn't a power user like I am now, so I liked it. The Blackberry 8900 was one of my favorite phones, to be honest. Looked great and was just fun to use! I would say the D1 was and always will be my favorite, as it was my entry into Android, then the HTC EVO 4G, and then the EVo 3D (slowly moving up my list!)
A little more on topic to the question you asked - I really liked the customization that you get with an Android phone. I liked that it was easy to hack and easy to make it feel like it was meant for you. I love that there is a ton of support out there for Android, XDA really is a wonderful site (minus the douchebaggery that can go on sometimes) I bought the original iphone back when it came out (had to drive to philly to get it since that was the closest apple store at the time and ATT wouldn't sell me an unlocked one!) and beta tested the original jailbreak and unlock for it. I managed to get it working on T-Mobile's prepaid sidekick plan and used it for a while. It was a cool phone at the time, but it still felt like it was lacking something. I also had the Pre for about 2 weeks and I just did not like it. No customization and I didn't think it had a good future (seems like I might have been right lol)
I feel like webOS will continue to be pushed by HP for a while, but I don't see it suceeding as a mobile platform and I see that slowly coming to and end. As for iOS, it does a great job with having almost identical SW between the devices (something android undeniably still lacks at the moment) and when jailbroken, I don't mind using it for a few days, but then I get bored but it will be taken over by Android and we are seeing that happen now. Android is only going to continue taking an even bigger lead."

6. Are you surprised by the success of viperROM?
"To be honest, yes I am. I built the ROM as a fun project for me to see how I could do and I thought I might get a small following of people from the EVO 4G that liked viperMOD Voltage Control to use my ROM. I had NO idea that it was going to hit it off like this! It was, to my knowledge, the first booting and working EVO 3D ROM on S-OFF day. Just for a few stats, scott951 @miuimods.net gratiously offered to host our ROM but we had no idea what we were in for. In less than a week, we blew through over 7TB of data, so with the ROM being ~350mb, if my math is correct, that's almost 21,000 total downloads of RC1, RC1.1, and RC1.2. It was so much that scott951's host suspended the account, forcing us to look elsewhere for a host. We settled on dev-host.org and multiupload for mirror (after a failed attempt with wupload) and since then, we've had over 2500 downloads of RC1.3 in less than a 24hr period. I would say that's pretty good.
Also as it stand, we have the most posts and views of any ROM thread in EVO 3D dev "

7. What are some of your future plans with the EVO 3D or the Android platform in general?
"I would like to get more into kernel development. I find it interesting and there is alot of technical information to learn which is fun for me to learn. Plus, that means that I can have a device running everything I made and I know everything can work together in perfect harmony. I'd also like to play with the GPU a little bit more and see how far it can be pushed.
The next big thing I'm going to need to get ready for is the launch of viperMOD Voltage Control and supporting as many devices as possible. I want to get this app to work on any device with a compatible kernel!"

8. What kinds of things can we look forward to in future releases of viperROM? Are there any surprises we will want to keep our eyes open for?

10. What do you feel sets viperROM apart from all the other ROMs for the EVO 3D?
"What sets viperROM apart is the OC daemon that I implemented and build a script to work with it, battery life that is better than any other ROM while maintaining excellent performance, and lastly but most important is unparalleled user support. I am in my thread as often as possible to answer questions and support my work. If it takes more than an hour or so for a response from me, that is out of the ordinary. I also respond to every PM and email that I get. I want my users to have the same great experience I do when I use my ROM and I want to make sure they enjoy it, that is very important to me. "

11. How did you and Vinchenzop team up?
"That is a funny story, but the short and sweet version is we had a chat one time via PM about how we noticed that a certain dev or devs weren't really doing their own work and were claiming other peoples work as theirs. We both found it repulsive and ridiculous and decided that we would make a good team together and we really do. I do almost all of the ROM work and he does almost all of the theme work and that really helps me out because it gives me more time to work on my stuff. He always gets things done quickly and fixes things for me almost right away if there is anything that isn't correct the first time around. I'm happy to have him as part of viperROM "

5. What made you choose to develop on the Android platform? Have you ever considered WebOS or iOS? What are your feelings about these platforms?
"I choose the Android scene because that was what was on my Evo 4G. I saw that phone when it first came out, and knew I'd wanted it. Once I had it, I knew I wanted to personalize it, and well, you know the rest.
As far as WebOS and IOS...It's been a few years since I've used a phone that had any windows-based software on it (I think it was when the Moto Q came out), so I'm not familiar with the specifics on that side of the fence. "Just keeping up with whatever projects Team Viper (derek and I) feel needed to be put out into the community to fill any niche that needs attention. More specifically, fulfilling requests of our seemingly, very large ROM-followers."

8. What kinds of things can we look forward to in future releases of ViperROM? Are there any surprises we will want to keep our eyes open for?
"Top Secret! No, not really...with us, we're more worried about the overall base of the ROM, which from feedback from the users, we've succeeded thus far. So currently, future plans consist of aesthetic changes/options. Applying user feedback requests, and just trying to make everyone experience their phone the way they should...their way."

9. What the hell is this "3VO" I keep hearing about?!
"I personally, don't like the whole "3VO" thing, I let the phone and its capacities speak for itself. Nicknames only work throughout this community, and don't apply to real-world encounters, so to me its still an "Evo 3D"
Thanks for your time guys im sure people will enjoy reading this!
Thanks to anyone that has made suggestions, donations, given feedback, positive or negative, because those are the things that keep not only viperROM, but this entire, wonderful developing community, going strong.

I realized afterwords that I forgot to add in the question about how you and your partner started working on the ROM together, you could elaborate on that here too if you'd like and I can add it to the OP.

I think It's a good idea..I enjoyed reading about the devs and found it interesting that two average guys were able to put together such a complete Rom without tons of experience..must be smart guys..good job op..hopefully some other devs will participate..and i know more will be coming around sooner or later..hint myn..
Great Stuff and great Idea. Beings that I just rooted my first Android Phone Ever this will help me get a look at some of the Roms out there and get some user feedback.
Viper Rom Sounds great!!
Updated OP with additional interview question in the -viperboy- interview section for those who missed it.
This is one of the best threads out. Very good idea. I enjoyed reading this. Thanks. Great thread.

[Q] Pretending the Evo View is a Wifi Flyer

Given my (extremely) rural location and my lack of funds, I was somewhat forced into purchasing a view instead of a flyer. Best buy wasn't planning an immediate restock. Amazon was extremely overpriced. Oddly enough, a "32 gig 3g refurbished flyer" became available and fell into my price range. Given that it came with all the extras I needed such as the scribe, I jumped on the opportunity. However, the seller immediately emailed me notifying me it was the view. I accepted.
To make a long story short. I don't, nor will I ever have a sprint line. I am only using it for wifi.
Would it be possible to port roms from the flyer over to the view and it work, with all things considered?
It is hard to say how easy it will be to port it.
One problem I think that your going to have is that there isn't an overwhelming support for the flyer to begin with, and I think it was the more popular HTC tab.
With that said, if you managed to get a good price on the view, I would probably just roll with it, if it has nearly the quality of the flyer.

Possible, probably yes...but practical no. It wold require far more effort than it's worth. I'm my opinon it would be better to wait for honeycomb and ask for the features you're looking for from Contradude or others if they apprear. Porting ROM features is a much more achievable goal than porting entire ROMs.
I already own the view.

Actually globatron, you are the very person I wanted to talk to. You have roms based off the official releases. In the thread with over 30 pages of replies, you mentioned that a view specific version was soon to come.
I'm all but desperate for honeycomb. I don't have a wireless network at home. I have no use for the net features. However, I really need that extra pen functionality that honeycomb offers. That and the ability to use honeycomb apps.
The features I need ported over is honeycomb itself.
Both Contradude and myself are trying all avenues to get our hands on a HC leak for the view, however this is proving extremely difficult. We know an official release is close but everyone we have spoken to is too afraid for their job to leak it. I would not ask anyone to take that risk but I do not think anything sane coule be ported any quicker than it would take to wait for the official release.
I definitely appreciate the effort and all the information. I wouldn't ask anyone to sacrifice their jobs either. I'm just sad to be left in the dark.
I may be forced to do some experimenting on my own until something does surface.
Again, thank you for the help thus far.
whatever you do, don't load a flyer hboot.
it's awesome to hear there is HC hope for us few View users out there, can't wait to be able to use the all the cool art apps out there like sketchbook with the pen!

That's exactly what I'm talking about. I really could care less about aosp on this device. My only source of internet is on my fascinate which won't even tether to my view. I can side load anything I really need. I honestly just want to see my view reach its true potential. I can't afford something like a cintiq. I'm trying to work my way up to that point. How can I accomplish that if my digitizer only works sometimes? How can i even access PhotoShop touch or sketchbook pro?
Hurry up and wait... That's the name of the game.

See other thread.
Android is suppose to be the Linux of the phone world... Considering, it technically is. Why all the run-around? Why is it so hard to get things going for the software? I'm getting tired of all the drama between proprietary hardware, carrier retardation, and false promises of releases that never happen. At least when they are suppose to.
Look at the galaxy nexus. After a decade with Verizon, I am ready to abandon ship due to their back-stabbing business practices, and non-existent marketing strategy. I love android and hope it is prosperous for years to come, but the hoops that everyone has to jump through is getting ridiculous.
Flyer Roms on View
Like the OP, I grabbed a brand new View Cheap. I have no need for the 3G / 4G. I will always be wifi only.
I was under the impression, the View WAS the flyer with a 4G radio... I had assumed that flashing a Flyer rom would work, but 4G wouldn't work because Flyer roms are missing those features. (I'm 100% fine with that)
Can anyone answer the following:
Will flashing a Flyer Rom brick the device? Hard or Soft Brick?
Has anyone tried flashing a Flyer rom on the View? Does it work?
Is the hardware actually different beyond the Radio?

Not really, but there are hboot, partition, address space, boot offsets and a few other things that are different. It's simply not feasible without a HC compatible view hboot.

Is anyone else getting tired of waiting for ICS?

Why couldn't they release Alphas? I'd be fine with spotty wi-fi and no video.
And now everything is apparently done including video yet still no release? GUYS, stop being such perfectionists, release alphas/betas. WHATEVER. Just get something out so we won't have to use a phone OS on our tablets anymore. PLEASE.

Oh please, the ROM has been ready for weeks now.
I'm sure all of us here have flashed ROMs on our phones/tablets that were spotty and were perfectly fine with them because we knew they were just Alphas/Betas and even in that state they were far better than what we had before.
Patience, young padawan. Good things come to those who wait.
Lets see here we get to install Android on our devices for free and the ROMs are all developed by volunteers. Be grateful that we have a stable Gingerbread port, we will get ICS when its ready. If you want to speed things up get involved with the port or donate towards it.
Can't believe I am even going to enter this thread and reply - but I'd rather wait till they are happy with it and how it will perform than to get some half-cocked ROM released just to shut people up.
If they released it as it is now... people would just start complaining about what they already know doesn't work... EXAMPLE: how many times do people bring up WIFI and sound distortion in regards to the current ROMs?! Everyone knows it's a problem, yet the posts/threads just keep coming.
Let them polish it and enjoy what you have now. It WILL come, but you will appreciate it a lot I promise you when it's released if they take the time to internally test it and feel confident they have done all they can before the first release is placed in user's hands. Another thread about this really isn't going to change anything.
Personally I'd rather the mods just remove these threads that pop up or consolidate them somewhere - so people can easily find the threads that will help them to solve their problems.
Not trying to bait you - I promise - and you are entitled to your opinion, but relax man - it's all going to be ok - I promise! :-D
I too am anxious to get ICS on my touchpad and I do agree that I would have liked to see a beta or an alpha to test it out, but I don't think this is the way to go about asking for it...although I dont know that there is a good way to ask for it, in any case I get where your coming from
Well there is the PreludeDrew Evervolv ICS ROM that just released, you can try that out if your that impatient...
For me, I've tweaked CM7 so much that it doesn't look or feel the same anymore. So basicly i've 'tweaked' it to my taste, and i'm lovin it!
I think the reason why they won't release an alpha or beta, is that people are still trying or getting into CM7. And for a person who is comfortable with CM7, why upgrade to a more buggier OS and nothing works?
EndlessMike, no one owes you a thing. You didn't buy your touchpad from them, aren't paying them to develop or use roms, they didn't promise you a release and didn't imply that you'll get anything...ever.
If you want ICS, buy a Xoom. Better yet, take the time out to learn how to code and develop roms and do it yourself instead of wasting your life away hoping someone will spoon-feed you. Stop complaining.

If you think this wait for a free product is bad, try waiting for Samsung, HTC, Motorola etc to release their ICS update for products people PAID for. The lucky ones are going to have to wait months. The unlucky ones don't even get an update at all.
Considering that that the Touchpad was never even meant to be an Android device in the first place and when most of us bought it, Android for the Touchpad didn't even exist, I'm quite happy with what we currently have and what we will be getting whenever we get it. It's far more than I ever expected and I very much am thankful to the developers for it.

I can't imagine anything more tedious for a Developer than a perfect ROM, especially when the community requests a taste and later demands perfection.
dis thread is ignant, yo.
You guys are late. I stopped checking for it 2 months ago. It'll come out when it comes out.
It saddens and sickens me to see such threads being made. The ungratefulness being shown to the developers is just sickening; and for some reason, it is worse on this forum than on others.
Rather than be excited and respectful, this entire community is degenerating into a group of whiny, self absorbed group who think that the devs live to serv them, and should bow to their whim.
What i wouldn't give to be able to close this trash myself..

Little Advice from Current Owners

I am seriously considering getting the OG for my next phone. Only one thing worries me, and that is the development community. I have been burned before (HTC Vivid) by buying what looks like a great phone, only to get no support from the dev community. What are everyone's thoughts on this? Do you think the devs are going to come, or is the draw of the N4 too great?

Well, obviously the dev community is here to the extent that Team CodeFire has successfully unlocked the bootloader. There is also a modified stock ROM available (which I am happily using). We should also be expecting AOSP 4.2 pretty soon (heard rumors of possibly this Friday). While there aren't many ROM options at the moment, the dev community is definitely present and I believe it's only a matter of time before we start seeing more support.
I am seriously hoping that the N4 base is able to be easily ported over as mentioned. This would make this phone a Nexus 4 but with LTE and SD!!
Honestly though, I feel LG really has a nice UI on top compared to Sense and TouchWiz.
I am definitely watching with great interest. Would love to upgrade to the OG, even though my wife insists nothing is wrong with my Vivid. I have had it over a year. Isn't that reason enough to upgrade...

Take this with a grain of salt: as in I hold no liability for this point of view.
The Captivate had identical hardware to the Nexus S and it *STILL* has a strong dev community. There is more that goes into that than just devs but, the similar hardware helps loads.
The phone despite have a very low number of devs still has an unlocked bootloader and I feel safe in saying the devs who are here are fairly high quality.
Even if we never attract a large number of devs/users the reality is we are in a beautiful spot compared to a lot of other devices right now.
It's also important to keep in mind our numbers can still grow big time. The more users we get, the more interested devs we get, the more we all benefit.
And being honest.. if you go play with the phone in store.. you probably will walk out with it... It's really, really, nice. I mean the other phones in store didn't hold a candle to it at bestbuy or at&t.

I did want to NOT like this phone - mainly because it's an LG. But it's stupidly fast and smooth. If we see AOSP 4.2 or CM 10.1 on this beast it will be unstoppable! :cyclops:
I was hell bent on getting the Note 2 for weeks; the day I went to get one, I walked out with the OG and I have no regrets. LGs UI is a welcome change and will tide me over until the custom roms show up.
You totally should get the phone as is. Even with no further dev support. You have root, unlocked bootloader, and the stock rom debloated with tether functionality restored.
There is nothing you can't do with the stock rom. And when Jellybean comes out from LG, it will be debloated again. So even if you don't want the nexus rom or cyanogenmod (you'd be crazy not too), it's the best phone out right now. Even better than the Nexus 4.

I was seriously wanting the Note II as well because the huge screen but this UI I feels MUCH better then TouchWiz and hardware wise it is an absolute beast. Not to say the Note II isn't fast but nothing is touching this device right now. This phone is screaming fast just imagine when it gets 4.1 or 4.2!
I just couldn't go for the Nexus 4 since it seriously lacks storage space. 8 or 16GB with no SD??? C'MON! Hell, I just installed The Bard's Tale and selected the HD pack and it took up 3.5GB on it's own. Missing LTE even further drives the nail down.
Unfortunately, most people outside of hardware geeks don't know how amazing this beast of a phone is. Then half the one who are hardware gurus are scared because its an LG. I convinced the guy next to me at work to pick up the Sprint version. He absolutely loves it too.
I would use the upgrade that I have on Att.. but the Dev community is very important to have... Only time will tell.. watching with great interest.

I was microscopically close to pulling the trigger on the SG3 when I decided last minute to get the OG. Never regretted it for a second and I'm still bone stock.
Looking to get this as well It's down to the N4 or this. Really want LTE. Badly. But don't want to get screwed over for dev community, but I highly doubt that will happen. AOSP ROMs are on their way, undoubtedly.
from what i was told with small modifications n4 roms will run just fine on the lgog also. so that opens up way more possibilities if that is true
This is definitely one of the best devices currently since it runs buttery smooth even on ICS. 4.1/2 or CM will make this device unbelievable.
Talked my brother into getting one. He ordered his optimus g today and it was back ordered (The s3 disappeared from amazon for att days ago, probably why.) so im gonna go out on a limb and assume we will get some more people working in here in the near future.
