Alright guys... This is my situation. I'm running the old Axura 2.2 edition. I saw some screenshots of nero v3 and and read that flashing different roms isn't that hard. The last thing I need is to brick my phone. Therefore I have some questions...
1) How do I flash a different rom from my current rom? Do I have to flash back to stock???
2) What is this Voodoo thing about? I see threads about it making your phone fast but then it can also brick while flashing????
Please help!!!!

1) Its prob safest to flash back to stock. It gives you a clean slate to go on,
2) Voodoo is commonly called a lagfix, but its more then that. It converts your file sytem from the facory rfs to an ext 4 format. Check out supercurios thread in the development section for mere info. PLEASE make sure its disabled before flashing another rom.
3) Read thru the nero thread for proper flashing instructions.

ok so i need to read up on Odin on how to flash back and currently going to supercurious thread... thanks!
Safest to flash back to stock (use odin), But....... you really don't have to. The risk is it might soft brick and then you would have flash back to stock..... So flash away can't hurt. Just remember if you have a lagfix on your phone disable before flashing
I have flashed from Axura 2.2 to Nero3 to heathen, to Ginger Clone and back to Axura I never flashed back to stock....... I have had no problem.......
For the most part they are from the same leak......... so the kernels are not that different.

ODIN tutorial for you...http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=810130
Going back to stock is not a necessity, but advised, since some settings and fragments from a previous ROM can remain and cause issues....not always though. You can always give it a shot, disable voodoo first, then just flash Nero through CWR.
wow thank you guys soo much... you guys cleared up everything... now im comfortable!
Glad to help. Let us know how it works out.

Hey, I am an armature on flashing Kernals, and by that I mean I never did it before. I know how to flash a ROM and I am good at that.
I want to the flash Bionix1.3 with KingKlicks kernal. I know how to flash it, but reverting back is going to be a problem for me.
I found the stock kernel, from here. http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=733792
My question is, when going back to stock, do I flash this through Odin? Do I flash it while using Bionix? Or do I flash stock, then use odin?
Yes I searched, and searched. No threads really ask this.
and thank you whom ever posts.
Oh, and one more question, which is better? KingKlicks or Vodoo OC?

^Hope that helped, it was posted by the OP on that thread..
KingKlicks vs Voodoo = That's your preference, I use Jacs..
Okay, do I do that while on Bionix, or flash stock rom via clockwork, then use odin to replace the kernel?
Really need help guys. Normally I don't double post, but I would like to get a answer ASAP. I am not someone who makes 10 topics on each sub forum...
kingclick vs. voodoo is by preference..
as to installing stock kernel.. what you need to look for is a kernel that's able to flash thru clockworkmod.. or you can just flash bionix1.3 without the kingclick or voodoo... are you having problem with the kernel that you have right now? my rule is if it's not broken, dont fix it..
Okay thanks.. I am installing Kingklick right now.. If I go back I will flash Bionix w/ regular kernel then.
Question....as well
I really want to try out a couple different custom roms, but I'm not sure if just using clockwork/nandroid is all you need to revert back to rooted stock completely. What I mean by that is, will my phone be recovered to what it was before flashing using clockwork/nandroid restore system, will it actually flash it back? Or is it just made for recovering when screwing up stock itself?
I'm a little confused, please help!
I have researched this and am getting more confused by the minute. I have installed Bionix Final stock and I am considering going back to ji6. I have read that I must flash the ji6 kernel even though I dont believe that bionix changed the kernel. When and how must this be done? After flashing to ji6? I would most appreciate it if someone could tell me the steps taken to flash just the kernel or if that is even necessary and also if I can just flash through Clockwork to go back to stock ji7 when Froyo is sent OTA. Would it be safer or easier to just use Odin? Any and all replies are most appreciated!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

thanks for the reply but I read this thread and still am confused. Sorry I am not as informed or astute as you are. Let me mention I am a complete nubie and am looking for simple steps or instructions or answers. I am continuing to search the threads for more information. Its becoming evident to me that I should never have flashed Bionix Final as it appears that there is not a lot of support or help for nubies who have questions and do not understand some of the procedures or terms.
Bionix fusion is based on ji6. It does not actually use the ji6 kernel. It is using a modified jfd kernel so I would not recommend flashing ji6 kernel over the top of it. If you would like to go back to the stock ji6 I recomend odin back to it. But if you wanted you could use jacs kernel or kings kernel if your not happy. Fusion also came in three flavors stock, jacs, kings.
Friends don't let friends flash drunk...
Thanks so much for the helpful reply. Does Bionix final have the same kernel as the fusion does? I am on Bionix Final. I will use Odin to flash back to ji6. Would I use just the tar and pit or do I have to repartition as well? It seems the swype keyboard I am so fond of will not go into landscape mode nor will any of the other keyboards. I have checked the settings and can find nothing that would affect this situation. That is one of the reasons I am contemplating going back to ji6. thanks again for the help and kindness. any info on my other questions is greatly appreciated.
All the bionix roms are using the modified jfd kernel. Im using bionix final r1 and im not having any problems with swipe. I find it to be the best touchwiz rom out there. If you do want to go back to stock use the 512 pit amd the ji6 tar and you don't have to check the repartition box. But if your like me and flash lots of roms I would check the box to get all the ghosts out of the closets (fix force closer issues).

Thanks again. I will put your information to good use. I may stay on bionix final for a while longer. I am overjoyed that I now have the correct procedures to flash back when the time comes. Many thanks and Blessings.
Ok can someone answer a few questions for me I have a stock vibrant with a stock 2.6.29 kernel and would like to flash a new kernel so I can begin overclocking but I would also like to flash back to my original kernel just in case can anyone explain how to make a back up or do this any help would be greatly appreciated thanks

so you have a stock Vibrant...you wanna overclock?
Are you rooted? Im pretty sure that too run a different kernel you need a diffrent rom other than the stock JFD.
You might get more answers if you posted in the right section.
Its the ji6 I think

dont bother giving him crap just help the guy. mods can clean it up and move it later.
ok well 1st off - know that what your about to do can potentially brick or damage your device and that myself, xda, jesus, mary and the hly ghost, the hobo behind the walmart and your aunt frank have nothing to do with this so you can only blame yourself
i would get to know ODIN real well first off. make sure you are able to get into download mode. via the hardware method OR ADB
use the Vibrant bible to find info on that.
I apologize guys I'm assuming this belongs in q&a

Not trying to be a wiseguy but:
Read the "Vibrant directory ( Bible ) and search this forum. Look for the subjects you're interested in. All questions are answered you just need to study before you start.
Learn how to use odin - if you follow the links you will have everything you need to get back to stock in an emergency.
Read about and learn how to use one click root.
Read about and learn how to use Rom Manager to flash roms
Use Titanium backup to backup your apps
Good luck and have fun!
Ok real quick I have odin I have the stock vibrant rom from xda I am pretty good with this stuff just new to this phone I also have a few roms but kinda wanna wait for 2.2 but would like a new kernel I have rom manager and a back up of my rom but I am having a problem getting adb to work just been using the terminal apk but I need help.with this and thank you for your time

im currently rolling TeamWhiskeys Obsidian V2
its a 2.2 Froyo based off the tmobile leak
everything works as it should and its fast and very stable.
OP you need to spend a couple hours reading and understanding several things. Most if not all you need is in the vibrant bible thread. If you can't get adb to work its almost always the driver. Must understand odin just in case something goes wrong. Its hard to truely brick this phone but not impossible.

No, that only saves your data and apps. You need to save it or you can use the ones located in the vibrant library. You can always revert back to stock using odin but do so AT YOUR OWN RISK... Good luck

The Bible is the greatest thing EVER.
Just seriously use how to use Odin. If you can learn how to get into download mode consistently and connect to odin successfully you will be fine. Then learn how to use recocery, which is very easy on the vibrant. you just install ROM manager from the market and flash clockwork mod recovery. learn how to backup and restore and you can flash things through recovery. Zips are for recovery, and Tar files are for Odin. If you want to OC i recommend "Corev2" by team whiskey (since JAC has dissapeared) which works with most ROMs and should work well with stock rooted. There is Odin files and zip files for stock kernels, jfd and ji6, which you could just flash over if you dont like it. Nandroid backups dont backup kernels, so make sure you have the right kernel on when you restore something. You can find everything in the BIBLE like everyone has told you to try. One word of the wise, if you load a Froyo 2.2 on your phone and then revert back to 2.1, make sure you flash a 2.1 kernel first before you restore. So many people think they brick after they do that.
And usually if you are waiting for official firmware, it appears here on XDA ready to flash (i flashed official ji6 before it was availible OTA) at some point. I would recommend you use a rooted ji6 ROM with Corev2 (and possibly the ji2 modem to save battery life but i like the ji6 modem) this will let you OC and UV without setcpu. this is kind of a scattered response but im just trying to help. I am running AOSP jk2 1.1 by Anderdroid and i LOVE IT.
It looks like you have everything ready on your phone.
Just learn Odin, you don't really need ADB. Make sure your phone can go into the download mode via the vol up and vol down key and connect USB cable for download mode. Its a Triangle Icon with android robot with shovel.
There you should load the Pit file and Tar file to flash back to Stock in case you brick you phone. As far as flashing ROM goes, remember this!!
If you flash a 2.1 Kernel + ROM like Fusion 1.2, and create a Nandroid backup through ClockWork. Then decided to go to a Froyo 2.2 kernel + ROM like Obsidian or MacnutR11 to try out. Do not restore Nandroid backup to 2.1, it will brick your phone requring u to ODin back to stock.
Bottom line 2.1 ROM will not work with 2.2 kernel and 2.1 kernel will not work with 2.2 ROM. Don't mix them up.
Basically if you are running a 2.1 kernel + rom, then switch to 2.2 kernel and rom. For some reason you don't like it, make sure you flash back to 2.1 kernel + rom instead of doing a nandroid restore.
Ok before everybody goes crazy over here and starts to roast me for putting up such a noob question and all that and telling me to search.. Here it goes.. Dont do it please!
Ok so i got TeamWiskey's Froyo 2.2 i like the rom and everything but the phone and contacts.apk suck they are terribly laggy and etc. So also my launcherpro plus seems to lag a bit more on 2.2 so now im wondering how to revert back to 2.1 without using ODIN! i dont do odin i dont know odin and i dont wanna mess with odin.. So is it possible i can just flash a 2.1 kernel like TeamWiskeys Core v3 and then flash a 2.1 Rom? Or no its not possible..
I have not done it personally, but if you flash the stock JI6 kernel you could probably just restore one of your nandroid backups of stock (assuming you have one).
Just install Bionix or something

I dont think installing bionix or fusion will get me back to 2.1 kernel or will it? And hmm i dont want to risk anything nd im not sure if i have a nandroid of 2.1 or is my nandroid 2.2
just flash a rom with a kernel that is built into the rom. any of the bionix roms should do.

Yes, almost (It think all) custom 2.1 ROMs have a kernel built in.
I know Master Rom does
Bionix does
Fusion does
etc
If you open the zip & go to updates & see zImage then yes
Alrite cool so ill just try that i didnt trust myself into doing it and risking a brick so yeah thanks for the help guys//
Ok it worked somebody can lock this now.. All i did was flash another fusion rom =]
I'm already rooted and already flashed the bionix rom for 2.1.
However, I've switched back.
My question is, can I just flash to any version? Let's say the simply honey one for example?
yes you can
read install instructions for the rom you want to flash, most can just be flashed over another but recommend going back to 2.1 but not necessary
coming and going to some roms need you to start at 2.1
so just be sure to reead the op and some of the thread

Man, there is just soo much to read that it can sometimes hurt our poor little pathetic brains! There are some brilliant people here on XDA and it makes me feel so jealous Lol
