So i got this bad-azz boot sound with Linda's voice that i wanna add with my custom Matrix boot animation...but i can't get it to play....i know it must be named PowerOn.wav....its been properly converted to wav with Audacity....i know it goes in /system/etc and when i reboot i hear nothing.....can anyone shed some light on my issue? I'm running Nero V3 /w Voodoo 5.0.4
EDIT: NVM...found out that Voodoo kernels don't support boot sounds...
This also happened to me in Nero but with bootanimation.zip won't play, I tried to delete the file then copy over the new bootanimation.zip.. still it wouldn't play.. the last thing I did is changed the permission to rw-r-r using Super Manager, and after that my custom animation worked.. I'm not sure about sound though..

I just recently moved from stock, and decided to go with Axura 2.2... I am loveng it!
When I was on stock, I had rooted and changed the bootup and shutdown animations and sounds and I liked what I had.
I have searched a while here and on Google... Everytime I find a link that looks like it has an answer and read 4-5 pages and even more sometimes, after a poster asks this question, there's never an answer.
I would like to have a boot-up sound again. I have placed the files in the right directories. I get the shutdown animation and sound I want. I get the bootup animation I want, but it remains silent. I have tried renaming the files to all lower-case and all upper-case. I have tried taking a look at the android development site on anything about bootup, but can't find it there.
Anyone have an answer???
Get oclf install ext2 tools and repair bootanimation

Will that ruin the bootanimation.zip ability of the ROM?????
I worked hard on making that animation since it was 'easier' than the QMG stuff.
EDIT
Nevermind... Just tried it and still doesn't help...
Where r u putting it, system/etc? And did u rename it PowerOn.wav

That is the location, and yes... it is currently labeled PowerOn.wav. I also tried poweron.wav, POWERON.wav on.wav ON.wav boot.wav BOOT.wav...Boopt.wav... I just can't get bootup sounds... Maybe I should ask at the Axura site/forum...
Just strange it wont work only had that problem 1 time and oclf worked for me

Just now flashed to JFD and then went straight to Axura. Should I flash to J16 then Axura??? Everything else is working great...
Just flash str8 to axura

This is getting quite annoying.
Added into the Axura 2.2 zip the bootupanimation.zip, PowerOn.wav, shutdown files and shutdown.ogg...
Used ODIN to go to JFD, rooted, installed rommanager, downloaded clockwork, rebooted into recovery and installed the rom... Still no bootup sound. To be on the safe side incase the audio file was bad, I used the stock PowerOn.wav file...
Again, boot-up animation works, no sound. Shutdown animation works with sound.
Is there some kind of script file I can look at and edit???
Not to hijack your thread, but I'm in the same position as you, kinda.
I've freshly flashed Axura 2.2.5.5. My boot animation works fine, but, like you, there's no sound. I've also tried putting the PowerOn.wav file in different directories but nothing works. However, my shutdown animation doesn't work, and neither does the sound. The shutdown folder is in system/media/video and the shutdown.cfg should be correct (012345678910 11 12 13.. etc) and the shutdown.ogg file is in system/media/sound/ui. How did you get yours working?
I tried adding
PHP:
s PowerOn.wav
as the final line in the desc.txt located in the bootanimation.zip, but this led to the boot animation not appearing. Maybe you can try this and see if its any different for you?
edit: Nevermind about the shutdown animation/sound, I got it to work. Now for the boot animation sound...
Try SGS Tools in the android market. Worked like a charm for me. Got Darth Vader sounds for the power on and power off sound. Super easy!

I was able to change boot animation right after root by using the same methods as I used on my DINC. But I want to replace the boot sound as well. I have tried renaiming to thunderfinal.mp3, android_audio.mp3, and (VZW_) something .mp3 to no avail. Any suggestions or success?

The boot sound is the FinalThunder.mp3
If you're rooted w/stock, the file is under /system/customize/resource
If you've flashed Adrynalyne's rom, it's under /system/media
you have to rename it finalthunder.mp3.old. It worked on mine
you guys are reading his question wrong. he doesnt want to get rid of thundersound he wants to add his own music or sound.
Right, so name it finalthunder, make sure it's an mp3, and adb push it to whichever location applies to him.

has that worked for you?
I did finalthunder.mp3 and named the renamed the old file to finalthunder.old before i even posted this and still i got nothing. Does it have a specific quality or codec used?
How to Turn the ThunderBolt's Boot Sound into a Ringtone/Alarm/Notification:
1) Grab the FinalThunder.mp3 file and place it on your /sdcard.
2) Install Ringdroid or a similar ringtone maker app from the Market.
3) Find "FinalThunder" in Ringdroid and open it.
4) Select only the parts of the sound you want to keep (if you want to keep the entire sound make sure Start = 0.0 seconds and End = 8.42 seconds) and save it as a Notification sound with whatever name you want it to have in the Settings menu.
This file now is modified for notification purposes and can be found in /sdcard/media/audio/notifications/<WhateverYouNamed>.mp3.
You can choose right then and there to make it your default notification sound or you can choose it later from the Settings->Sound->Notification Sound menu.
Enjoy!
Not what I was asking but good info though. I want to replace the boot sound with something custom.
Alrighty now. This is my first big question to post and I have looked for a real answer for this. It concerns customized boot animations. What depends on the use of using custom boot animation? The rom or the kernel. I have just installed Simply Honey 5.1 beta 1 and forced a custom into system/media using root explorer r/w set and permissions set as what I have seen on every link I have read. Rebbot and nothing. Does SH 5.1B1 not support them or is it Bullet because I had just created my own bootanime with Samus scene from Metroid Other M and using death scene from Metroid Prime 3 as shutdown?
Nevermid, I found the info I was looking for, mostly. Only problem is still bootanimation.zip not playing still but shutdown is. I will prevail but if someone knows what I am doing wrong please throw your two cents in, please.
Not certain but is the location for the bootanim different in GB?
Sent from my SGH-T959
Samsung animations are in the same locations in froyo and GB. I have changed boot sounds and now loaded audiophile on 4g and valhalla on the vibrant. No go on both. I am guessing but guess i will ask both creators of these great roms since GB is new for sgs4g and a ported rom on vibrant. i have both boot and shutdown animations ready to run.
Im sorry audiophile on sgs4g and simply honey on the vibrant. DOH!!
I got a reply from explodingboy last night and he said the talon kernel does custom boot animations so I tested it out today with my own. And it works! Just rename bootanimation.zip to sanim.zip push into system/media and set your permissions to rw-r--r--. I used root explorer but I you can use advanced. Just remember to set it back to ro or something will or wont happen. Talon for the vibrant can be found in the Simply Honey Gingerbread thread third post. Thank you eb!
So can't post in the thread for ICS passion yet but if any kind soul would like to inform me what I might be doing wrong...I'm trying to change the lock and unlock sound through root explorer it's a ogg file that I have changed in many other roms but this one won't take...any suggestions
Here's the original thread where I got the idea: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=922103
Iced out passion ICS T959
Can this even be done in this type of ROM or was it just a mistake on my part to delete the original ogg files?
Iced out passion ICS T959
I have not tried this, so I don't know for sure. Did you change the permission on the .ogg files? They should be the same as the rest of the .ogg files. After that, then reboot. To change permission, long press on the file to bring up the menu.
I hope this helps.
I just looked at what you said and there is no option for changing the permissions I looked at the permissions on the new ogg files I put in and the ones that already were pre installed and they both say N/A...
Edit: the above was in root browser...root explorer has permissions but they are the same as all the other ogg files
p.s. Thanks for the help though
Iced out passion ICS T959
Ahhhhh yes this does work...must have tried this in v11 and when I flashed v12 the old ogg files went back in...just fixed the permissions...lol I feel a little dumb now

I would have posted this to the Neutrino rom development thread but I don't have enough post.
I have Neutrino v2.91 flashed and I have noticed that it doesn't have the neutrino boot animation. I checked the system\media folder and the bootanimation.zip is there. I thought maybe it was corrupt so I changed its name and installed another custom bootanimation.zip. That didn't work either. I flashed the boot.img from the Neutrino v2.91 zip file and that didn't fix it. I did all the wipes, permission fixes, and resets. Nothing fixed it.
I flashed AOKP and paranoid android over the weekend to test them out and their bootanimations worked fine. The neutrino bootanimation didn't work before or after that (probably because I restored a backup I had made before I flashed AOKP and paranoid android).
The bootanimation isn't going to keep me from using this rom because it is awesome but it would be nice to fix this problem.
I hope somebody has an idea on how to fix this.
Try installing the animation ZIP as /data/local/bootanimation.zip. If that happens to work, check permissions for /system/media as well as the ZIP inside it.
I copied the bootanimation.zip to data\local and it still didn't work. I set the permissions to rwx rwx rwx for the system\media folder and that didn't work either. I saw somebody stated that the boost script might remove the bootanimation. I don't know what the boost script would do to cause that. When i boot the phone the initial bootloader graphic is displayed and it says unlocked and then it vibrates and the homescreen appears. Thanks for the suggestions.
I figured it out. I saw that their was a discrepancy between the recovery system\bin and the original neutrino system\bin and I found a file called boot-dmesg. That reminded me that I had installed live-dmesg lite from the play store and then uninstalled it. I reinstalled live-dmesg lite from the play store and saw it had an uninstall option which I didn't use last time just the manage applications feature in settings. I had to use live-dmesg lite to installe the live-dmesg boot animation since the uninstall option was grayed out. I then used the uninstall option and now I have access to my bootanimation once again.
