[Q] Vibrant Warranty - Vibrant Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Alright, so I bought my Vibrant used on CL. When I got the phone, I noticed the prior owner hadn't registered the phone through Samsung, so I went ahead and registered it in my name.
Question I have is -- If for some reason the phone craps out on me (due to manuf. defect or GPS or whatever), would I be eligible for a warranty replacement? I have done warranty replacements on phones before, but they were all through tmo and since I didn't buy it from tmo I wonder how it would work, if at all. Anyone have any info?

I bought my vibrant on CL too. My phone was soft bricked and i was locked out. I called them and they sent a replacement for free.

Hey that's awesome!!!! Good for you man. I hope I would be able to get them to be as generous. I noticed my phone was manuf 9/25/10, and my GPS works, but does seem a little weak. I wonder if I *****ed if they'd hook me up.
Or maybe wait until the Vibrant 4G releases, and they might send me that one once all the old Vibrants are gone... *wishful thinking*

I've heard that T-Mo is no longer selling the Vibrant 3g. The 4g ships with 2.2. If you get a refurbished phone it will probably come with the stock firmware.

Wrong. If you purchase a phone in store it is always brand new. You only get a refurbished device if its a warranty exchange. 3g does not come with 2.2.

Most stores don't have them anymore. So I suppose if you are lucky and get one that does, yes, it will be new.
close thread, they do come with 2.2 mine just did.
So I just talked to my associate who just got a replacement vibrant the other day and she confirmed as well that her's came with 2.2. And yes, at this point T-Mob stores are receiving small shipments of OG vibrants if at all. Any of the new ones that I have received have had 2.1.

Um, we're still selling Vibrant (3G) models new in some locations. In fact I know about 32 locations that are and that can still order them. I'm sure there are others.

So close to giving up

This phone is awesome until i make or receive calls. I've tried numerous roms and modems that all result in the same result which is muffled voices that i often can't even understand. Seems that its when im talking to iphone users more than anything but its always there. My inspire was great with phone calls and really never had an issue understanding with any phone I've ever owned. Very frustrating and even happens on headset and Bluetooth devices. Any advice, anyone else experience this?

It very well may be a hardware issue. It happened to me on my last SGH. When I got a new phone, I haven't experienced the issue.
Try getting a replacement with whoever you bought the phone from. I had my phone replaced via hardware warranty and not insurance, so I got it for free.

That's probably what I'll try. I bought it over the phone with at&t so I'm sure they will want me to send it in since they aren't selling the sgsII over the counter here in austin (they are pushing the skyrocket). Sucks to be without a phone for a week or so!

You'll keep your current phone until they mail you the replacement. Then you'll pack your old phone into the box and ship it off. Make sure you've flashed back to stock and removed any trace of root because if you don't you'll lose warranty.

It should be pretty easy to make a claim on faulty hardware when you do it online and send it in, I haven't had any issues with call quality or anything so I'd guess it's a hardware issue
also I've done this before, except I did it with insurance claim, and I'm pretty sure they sent it with like FedEx overnight shipping too so you wouldn't really be waiting either

I would rather have a refund than a phone someone already used and broke. I buy new, I expect new.
refurbs are often times just a new phone that they cannot sell as new because it was opened. No scratches or damages but its still new.
Refurbished phones right now are basically still new phones. Most of the refurbished phones were phones bought brand new and returned within the 30 day free-exchange period. Some people didnt like it and a lot of people returned it for the Skyrocket... so AT&T has to resell the phones as refurbished even though there was nothing wrong with it at all. So now is the time to buy a refurbished phone.
I got my Dad one last week and he got it on Thursday. Its completely brand new. Not a scratch or anything on it. He got it for $9.99 and its perfect.
of all the refurbs I ever received from AT&T, all of them looked new.
I was up to 4 Captivate refurbs last year and they all looked brand new.
Interesting, not having any call issues with my phone.

Got screwed on a Craigslist deal

Yesterday, I traded my wife's razr for a purple razr. It was a straight up trade on Craigslist. Seemed legit at the time. As soon as I drove away, I noticed the 4g kept dropping. I had to toggle airplane mode to get it to come back,... and then I just dropped signal again. It does it constantly. If I change it to 3g only, it works fine, it just doesn't like being on 4g at all. Anyways, I texted the guy back and of course he never replied.
So I went to Verizon yesterday, thinking that maybe the sim went bad when we swapped phones. A new sum didn't make a difference. Well, the girl in the store said it was a warranty issue and that she would send us a new one on Tuesday. I even told her it wasn't the original razr we bought. I told her of the trade. She still said it was a warranty issue. At first I thought it was cool... get a new phone out of it. However, now im wondering - if I do send this razr back, and the imei numbers don't match the original razr, then would I end up being charged for a whole new phone?
At this point on just thinking of sending the replacement back and just buying a new (used) phone.
Anyone have any idea how the warranty works? Is it just on the original phone purchased? What's my best way out of this mess?

I say don't worry. You may be over-thinking on this issue.
just relax and do the swap with vzw since even they suggested so.
something unusual happened to me too.i bought my razr on craigslist too and they sent me a letter to offer me insurance and extended warranty. i called them and they told me they are doing that with 2 years old or less phones no matter where you bought it.today i still having insurance and warranty.

Verizon Tech Support giving away Rezounds

a buddy of mine told me that if you currently own a tbolt and call Verizon Wireless complaining about certain issues, they replace it with a Rezound. Has anyone heard anything about this?
If you get your Thunderbolt replaced for valid insurance purposes, they will replace it with a rezound since most, but not all, Verizon stores are out of Thunderbolts.
Some times, though, you won't be offered a rezound. Rather, you may get offered a LG Revolution... which sucks.
There is a post about it here:

You have to push a little if they don't offer it. We got my wife's Charge replaced with a Rezound last night. Took some prodding, they wanted to offer a Stratosphere or Spectrum or Nexus. When we pushed, they offered the Rezound or Bionic as well.
Just had my Thunderbolt replaced for a broken screen through the insurance of Verizon and I still got a Tbolt for a replacement . Guess they found some more.....

Same here. When I talked to the Rep at Asurion about my phone (sucky data connection) I hinted about the rezoned replacement. He told me that they have plenty of TBs around. Which is fine, I like the TB when it's working, with a good ROM it doesn't really matter what the phone is to me.

I think he's talking about my phone being replaced under the phone insurance program (Asurion). This is my 3rd TB from them so I think it's paid off. It's the first phone I bought insurance on and I'm glad I did. Having to cough up several hundred dollars for a new phone would suck.
Edit: Looks like they are out of refurbs at Asurion. I got a brand spanking new TB yesterday. It works beautifully (for now) I'm going to let it sit stock for a few days to make sure but then Jester's ICS will be on there in no time.

The Rezound. Personal preference, but the big part for me is the SD card. Yes, the Nexus has a slightly larger screen, and is, well, a Nexus device, but overall I just really have liked HTC's devices.

Warranty services.?

Will AT&T warranty services replace my phone for a hardware defect?
I've had my phone since release and the glass is raised on the left. At first it was something I could deal with but it actually seems to be getting worse. I feel it every time I pull down for notifications.
It's been too long to get a replacement from the store I bought it from so I'm wondering if AT&T will help me.

One more time, since it seems it's never clear:
Warranty is for DEFECTS, like the gaps, raised screens, etc.
INSURANCE is for **** that you do to your phone, like a broken screen, liquid damage, fire, theft, etc.
AT&T covers your phone with a 1 year warranty regardless of if you have insurance or not. The insurance extends the warranty past the 1 year though.

I don't think you should do that. You said you called AT&T, but I was told by the repair department that going to a store and reporting your problem would get you a new phone.
That's not always the case. Every time I've gone to the store after the initial return period has expired, I'm told I have to deal with warranty services. In fact I have had sales reps in the store call them for me. Store reps have little to no power unless you are dealing with a store with a repair center on site. There isn't one of those within a hundred miles of me, so I just call warranty services.
Btw. New phone arrived yesterday and it doesn't have any problems.

Absolutely not. Maybe if it's a repair center (which are relatively rare), but outside of those shops all AT&T warranty work is done over the phone.
