What happened? I would REALLY appreciate any help. - HD2 Windows Mobile 6.5 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hey guys,
I'll try to keep this short. I have an HD2 that I've been running SD card Android builds with no problem. I didn't want to do a NAND flash just yet. I installed the EBL2.1a in Winmo and rebooted and all was well. I shut down, went back into Winmo, had it select the Gingerbread build I had on the card, to which it got to the Android logo, then just kept flashing the logo. I pulled the battery and now it wont turn back on! Just a black screen, just like its dead. I tried the reset button and tried a hard reset and still nothing. Any ideas?? I didnt think an SD card build could do any damage to the phone, so I'm really confused. ANY help/insight you could provide would be MUCH appreciated.
DISREGARD. I pulled the SIM and the SD card and now Its working again. WHEW! Weird.

Ugh. Scratch that. EBL just tried to load that gingerbread build again, and the same thing happened. I was trying to get it to select the proper Android build and somehow it selected the Gingerbread build not in the "Android" folder. Now its completely dead. Again. I removed the SD card and SIM and tried again with no luck. Im thinking it was just a time thing and I need to leave it for a while with the battery out. This is so weird tho. Hopefully it'll power back up again and I can just remove the EBL.
EDIT: Waited about 5 minutes and It's back to normal again. It's quite weird how an SD ROM can hard lock a phone like that. I'm not a developer, so I'm sure there's something I don't know, though.
EDIT AGAIN. Found the problem. It turns out the battery contacts are getting weak and bend a little if the battery is not inserted perfectly.
I know I'm basically talking to myself in this thread, but hopefully this little diatribe will help others who might run into the same issue.

[Q] SD Card Missing Icons & Reboot/Restart Issues

Hello all, I have decided to catalog all of the missing icons and rebooting issues into one spot as I have just received a new phone from Toshiba because my old phone repeatedly rebooted upon boot... and now my new phone is repeatedly rebooting upon boot, which is the same thing that my old phone did! Also, I can't remember how I solved the "missing icons from programs installed on SD card problem" but I have that same problem again. Now, I live in Japan, I have tried most of the radios, could living in Japan cause my phone to reboot? Like could the radio when it is trying to connect to the tower not like the signal and then fux up n' reboot? I need help, I know Kevin P. White played around with this issue, I know that most of the people on this board had this issue at one time or another. Any ideas friends?

Rebooting Issue
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=648809
I tell you, if someone can help me with the rebooting issue, it would be so much appreciated. It is so frickin’ annoying to have the phone just almost boot up, then freeze for about 2-3 minutes before rebooting, then it will do this 3-4 times before it is stable. Someone else has to have this problem as I just got a brand spankin' new phone from Toshiba, and I still am experiencing the same problems that I did before. Thank you,
What the hell am I doing wrong? It must be my fault right?... I mean... There is no way that two phones from Toshiba could be having the same problem, so what am I doing that very few other people are doing?
I have tried using all of my stupid skills to come up with a solution, but... no avail. I need help.
-Kilimessed.
PS: I will fix this problem, this post will catalog all of the known issues and fixes with this device, I can promise you, I will fix this basterd.
[UPDATE] - Trying one of FFBOY's roms [ROM][ENG]FFBOY'S WM6.5 21914+Manila 20161332!Radio5005.1700.05!8/8 - I read in one of those posts that he uses a different SD Card driver. Will report back later.
[UPDATE2] - It is later now, I do not have an SD card problem anymore, FFBOY's rom has definitly solved that issue, however, the rebooting problem still persists. It will begin to boot, just past the splash screen, then freeze for 10seconds to 2minutes depending upon the barametric pressure at that time... ehheeh.. **** ... i donno.. but.. anyways.. if someone can help me with the rebooting problem, that would be much apreciated. Ok, so I have done the following, I have removed the SD card and the SIM card but it still freezes/reboots 2-3 times before loading windows. Anyone else here having the same issue?
The solution to all these issues is simple : Don't install your applications onto the SD Card.
Once you've moved everything into the phone memory, you'll find it all works much better !
What about the cycle boot freeze problem? Oh man, I would give anything to have my stupid phone boot properly!... Again, it will freeze 2-3 times, then it will boot properly, it doesn't matter if there is no sim card and/or sd card installed at the time. Anyone experienced this?
Hi Kilihari! I had a similar problem with my TG01. I'm not firm in programming windows mobile, so I can't give you an advice in this direction...
but when that occured on my TG (plus freezing phone when press slightly on the backside of it), I sent it to the Toshiba-service partner for warranty - and got it back, still having the same problem -freezing after light pressure on the back-cover and independent from that (occured before) recycling boot (only 30% of the boot-trials worked properly). So I recorded a video with the problems and sent it back to Toshiba service the next day...
The result: My phone received a new motherboard, new IMEI etc. Which one of the two faults was the cause for replacement...i don't know, but maybe the recycling boot is rather a hardware-fault-caused problem than software-caused...
Good luck in finding a solution!

i ther, I have not had a problem with rebooting but I do get the missing icons quite a lot.
I find that using Sense roms is fine, I assume that while Sense is loading the system has more time to scan the sd card and load the icons. But this has a knock on effect on both memory and battery life.
I did find a rom somewhere (cant remember which one) which had a very lengthy boot/startup animation and the icons appeard fine. But it took a while to load so I changed this to a more traditional logo and the icons dissapeared.
I uninstalled this but the icons never came back and I did read that by changing the startup wait times this could also fix the problem so I tried experimenting and trashed my TG01 and I had to hard reset to clear and since then I have not 'experimented' since.
If someone has some spare time on their hands and dosent mind all the reboots they may find an answer but in the end I had to make customised icons and use JWD icon changer
Thanks guys for your help, I am sending my phone back to Toshiba, I will do this up again, I will pay for it, I don't care, I got to get this fixed.
Good luck and keep us posted
Problem Solved!!!!
Good news.
So I decided to give it one last shot, to try just one more time to get my phone working properly. I turned it on and preformed a “Master Clear” on my phone, stock Toshiba ROM freshly downloaded from their website, just to give it one more shot. I didn’t want to take out my SIM card from my secondary ASUS phone so I just took the pre-paid “Pay-as-you-go” SIM card from Softbank Mobile here in Japan (we use it sometimes when we have company over from Canada). A very interesting thing happened... right from the very beginning, I noticed that my phone was much more responsive and stable, I noticed that it didn’t freeze or reboot. It was perfect. The radio for the Japanese Docomo T01a is 5005.1901.1.20 which must make it possible for it to work with Japanese SIM cards, of course the new radio for UK Orange is 5001.0001.76. My "pay-you-go" SIM card looks like the previous generation's SIM, whereas my official Softbank SIM card looks newer. Anyways, the pay-as-you go SIM works, well the other SIM worked too, but this time my phone doesn't reboot, IT IS STABLE!!!! Meaning my phone is good. If anyone would like me to go further and take some photos of the SIMs, I can, just so if anyone encounters this problem ever again, we now have some additional information for the people in this community. If someone is experiencing the same problem as I am, you can just get a pay-as-you-go card or use a different carrier’s card and it might work, but the rebooting at boot and random freezes are not caused because of defect in my phone.
WoW.... I can't believe after a year and a half of pain, misery, and suffering, that it all came down to a stupid pay-as-you-go SIM card... also, my phone still froze without a SIM card in it, but after I had put in the pay-as-you-go SIM card, then it froze one more time, but the second time it booted, and then after it booted properly, then it has been good ever since, even without a SIM… now it is good. I can't believe this... honestly can't believe this. Even if it reboots once a day, there is no problem with that, but it has been totally stable... holy ****.... holy crap, it hasn’t rebooted in a whole DAY!!!! Moral of the story, buying a phone from a different country has issues related to it. EHEEHHEEHH.. Ummm... weirdest thing, ok, so, it seems like the pay-as-you-go card updated something in my phone or, allowed something to update. Then I put in my normal SIM card and all is good. When my phone starts to act funny, then I pop back in the pay-as-you-go SIM card for a minute, then turn off my phone and then put back in my normal Softbank SIM card. WOW!!
Also, Supbro's iContacts, iDialer, GreenButton and Ashiqiqbal's Host v1.5 are awesome programs... I feel like a kid in a candy story who has been held back savoring the sweet smells of the candy for over a year, I am now just installing program after program on this phone, just playing with things, eating all the candy!

[Q] weird behaviour with 2.3.3 update

I've been searching for the answer all day, so please don't bite my head off if the answer is somewhere obvious. Also my spell check is on the fritz so i apoligise in advance for the poor spelling.
Today i tried upgrading my x10i via the sony PC companion. All went well until the software asked me to restart the phone. It restarted, loaded up the OS and asked me for language etc. After clicking for language, the phone became unresponsive and then turned off.
My first port of call was to reconnect the phone to the PC companion. I pressed and held the back button the companion software picked it up and reistalled the OS.
Didn't work. Same behaviour as before.
I then tried SEUS and used the repair feature. Again it reinstalled the 2.3.3 OS. I restared the phone, and had the smae behaviour as before, execpt it started looping the restart. The phone would get into the OS main screen fine, and then restart over and over.
After that i got onto google trying to search for the same issue. Everywhere i went, people were saying that a software reinstall did the trick. I had tried that several times by now and so i decided to come over to xdadev and give a flash a try. I downloaded the flasher and the most recent rom from this thread.
The flasher worked ok, but i was getting the same behaviour with the restart loop. I then decided to flash back to 2.1, and this is where i had a small breakthrough, as when i finished installing 2.1 Update 1, the phone turned on and stayed on. However it didn't reconise my sim card. I played with it for a bit to make sure that it would say on, which it did, and then i powered it off to check the sim card. I gave it a polish and reinstered it. The OS reconised the sim card, and then started the restart loop again.
So obviously i'm thinking it's the sim card. I recharge the battery for a while, just to mek sure that the phone will stay on and then i try my wifes sim card. This time, did can't even boot fully and only gets as far as the sony ericsson screen.
After that i took out my wifes sim card and it started working normally again.
So now im curious. I decide to flash the phone to 2.3.3 again to see if it runs ok. Aside from one restart which i think was part of the install process, it works fine as long as there is not a sim card in the phone.
Since i've had the phone, i've done one upgrade aside from this one from 1.6 to 2.1 and everything worked fine. I've also had the same simcard since i've had the phone with no problems what so ever up until this point.
Thoughts?
EDIT: Things I forgot to mention:
1. The battery was 80% charged when i started the original upgrade to 2.3.3
2. During the troubles, i would try and turn the phone on, the green light would flash and it would vibrate but not turn on. If i left my finger on the on button, it would 'cycle' through with the green light and the vibrate sequence every few seconds.
Hey Krusty, I've been having a similar issue with my x10, I posted about it over here, maybe we can brainstorm together? http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1209798
chances are this could be what you are in,
say good bye to your phone, it is permanently damage now.

Congratulation, there is a chance you got one of those faulty motherboard that can't handle updates resulting a burning in your motherboard.
You might as well open up the cover and smell if it give you a burning scent.
welcome to the club.

it's not an answer actually, i just want to walk u through it, because since the day i got my phone RIGHT, i had no idea how did i do it
anyway, i just helped the guy in another thread and yeah, i will post the answer if his way is working

Anyone ever get stuck at white HTC screen?

so this guy came into my store who had a rezound, never once had a problem with it ever...then the battery died fully overnight because he forgot to charge it..
so when he woke up, it was dead obviously. he then plugged it in, and the orange light came on for 5 seconds...then shuts off. and nothing happens. this even happened when he brought it in for me to try. so i'm like, wtf, probably a bad battery maybe?
so i put in a good one we've got...same thing. so i ask if he's rooted or anything, he says no...but i did a search, and found some posts that when people had bad flashes of roms, it would stick at the white screen, and they had to restore a backup in CWM for it to work.
so i tried to see if maybe he was rooted...went into bootloader, hit recovery, and the phone just died. just shut off. so i was like, thats weird...so then i tried to do a factory reset....same thing, i hit factory reset, the white HTC screen came rgiht up, then the phone just died...and this was with a fully charged battery, too.
eventually we had to just call up and get him sent a refurb, but still, has anyone seen this problem? nothing i could do could get it to boot, and that's such a ****ty feeling especially if this guy said that he NEVER had a problem with any HTC phone, especially this rezound, until that battery died and it would'nt turn on again.
I've had that problem after a bad flash, but it still let me get into hboot and recovery without problems, so I doubt it was that. Don't have a clue what it could be though... at least you got him taken care of with a refurb. Maybe the inability to boot to recovery could be not having amon ra or cwm installed (never tried without one) and if he wiped /data or /system I don't know if factory reset would know what to reset to (again, never tried).
Edit: Also, with me, the phone never died. White HTC screen would stay up until I pulled the battery and it would still recognize the charger.
exactly! it's a problem after a bad flash. i wonder if this dude was lying and tried to flash something, his battery died, and it bricked it
I am currently experiencing the exact same problem; I was able to replicate everything you describe, including what happened when you tried to go into recovery or factory reset mode. I have NOT tried to root or do anything else untoward with the phone ... if anyone has any idea what I can do other than get a new phone and lose all my data, I would really appreciate it!
edit - there is one difference: my battery never died. I took my phone out of my pocket at 5:40 to look at it, and it was fine. I looked at it again at around 5:50 and I had the white htc screen. At this point I pulled the battery and started googling.
second edit - could the forced update have something to do with it??
nope, he brought his in before the update.
have you gotten anything to work? when we called customer service, they just replaced his phone for him..i hope it works out for you, man. maybe try to get into fastboot and wipe the phone, or something? i know i was able to get into the bootloader..maybe you can push a factory reset from the comp

If you want to at least get the data off of it you can try using testdisk.
http://www.cgsecurity.org/wiki/TestDisk
I used it for my external sd card that wouldn't read in the phone or computer anymore and had all my nands and other backups on it. It seems like it won't work on Android but it will, but since I formatted it in the phone it didn't seem to have a volume name.
After you select the drive and it comes up with the partition table list, select [None].
Then select [Analyse]
I think that's when it will list all your directories.
You might be able to hook up your phone and get stuff off the internal card if you leave it at the white htc screen, not sure. But I have used testdisk successfully on a drive and the sd card that all systems said was unreadable and needed to be formatted. Anyway, it's worth a shot to see if you can get your stuff off it even if you have to return it.

Yeah I had a lot of white screen time when I had the Evo! A co-worker of mine had this happen on his Evo. It was from overheating. Now I realize this is the Rezound we're talking about but brilliant phones do think alike.

happened to me when the kernel didn't flash but the rom did. Had to boot into fastboot and flash a kernel through a command prompt on my PC.
Just finished dealing with this after a bad flash. I couldn't boot, couldn't flash a new rom because of the Mainver error and couldn't get into recovery. Finally fixed it by deleting the PH98IMG.zip file. That let me get into recovery. Then had to flash back from ICS to Gingerbread. The I could follow the instructions to fix the Maiver error.
I had heard reports that people had data loss issues from the battery dying all the way in the rezound? Something tells me running the RUU on the phone would have fixed it.

[Q] HELP! Photon wont boot! (Stuck at red M)

So yesterday I was in a call with low battery when it shut off. Normally not a problem, just plug it into the wall for a while. Well when I tried to turn it on, it wouldn't even boot up. It was stuck at the red M logo. The LED showed amber colored as well. I left it plugged in and the light remained amber until 90% battery, where it turned green.
I tried to turn it on and its been stuck on the red M logo. Its been stuck for more than 12 hours now.
I CAN access fastboot, android recovery, etc. I already tried wiping the cache and even did a factory reset. Still wont work.
What can I possibly do? I luckily have a backup phone, but I've had my photon for less than a month, no warranty, and I'm a novice Android user. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Click on the software and tools link and use rsd lite to reflash the stock os onto the phone. If that doesn't work I would take it to the sprint store.
I assume you tried pulling the battery?
I'm downloading SBF now. Hopefully it works, because I live in Canada and we don't have Sprint stores.
And YES, I tried pulling the battery. Multiple times. With every combination (eg, plug in, turn on, then insert battery; put in battery, turn on, then plug in, etc)
the sbf should work but may i ask how you managed to brick your photon? when i just got mine i did everything wrong and i never got even a soft brick so i'm interested what i didn't mess up haha
Quick question: I should be downloading the most recent? Will it make a difference?
And damn, did I actually brick it?? I'm pretty new to this thing, this is my first Android and I've had it for less than a month...
And nothing should have triggered it. I added another line in build (ro.media.setting.1080p or something) and I added another setting in /system/etc/mediaprofiles.xml. I was trying to add 1080p to the camera (unsuccessfully). I didn't remove anything, and even after a reboot it was fine.
It wasn't until the battery died, where it stopped booting up. Just my luck :/
You should probably choose one of the newer ones, just becasue of bug fixes, etc. If you happen to know what version you were running before then I'd choose that. I cant stress enough, make sure the one you download is for the Photon and NOT Electrify! And technically yeah that is a brick lol but its extremely hard to legit brick beyond repair a photon due to the fact that we have RSD Lite and SBF files to bring it back.
Strangely, I found a thread depicting the same problem that I had, although with the electrify. http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=14813
Anyways, the problem is fixed, by reflashing the SBF using RSD Lite, everything is back to normal! Well, almost, just have to restore my backup
Thanks so much for your help guys, I wouldn't have been able to fix it without you all!
can you fix a bricked phone??
My Photon has done the same thing! I rooted her and did the Bootstrap Recovery thing. Everything was kosher until I tried to load that stupid Beats Audio. Something happened between me flashing it and the reboot where it locks the phone. I tried to do the Android recovery screen, I wiped, I did about everything I could find. No bueno.
I followed this forum and clicked the software and tools link as instructed. I tried with RSD 5.6, and tried several iterations of SBF's located here and here. I was using SBF - 1FF-sunfire-user-2.3.4-4.5.1A-1_SUN-154_MR-3-CM.
It lets me go into boot mode, and when I try to flash the SBF it appears to go through, but it always fails at the end. Which, the posts state it will do, but my phone will not reboot afterwords. After trying everything I could for a couple days, I decided to just take it to a Sprint store. Mind you I've had this under 30 days, but longer than 14 so they stated it would have to be replaced. They tried to flash, but said they were getting stuck too.
I know that a replacement is pretty much the answer, but just wanted to check one more time to see if anyone had any other ideas, or could point me to other forums maybe? Appears I've done what few have been able to accomplish...brick this joker.

[Q] Major screen issue

Hello.
First of all, I've been running CM7, having used CM9 for a while and decided it's not for our phones yet. My X10MP has been working fine.
Today, I tried to move some apps to the SD card. When I did so, one in particular, a GPS app, TMN Drive, got stuck and when I picked my phone up and pressed the unlock button. Nothing happened. It seemed to have shut down. So I took out the battery and tried it again.
Now I'm aware of the issue... Once the screen shuts down to lock the phone, it doesn't come back on. I know this because I have unlocked the screen (with it off) and messed with the volume buttons and heard the volume beep.
The first time this happened, the battery got quite hot. I flashed the ROM again, figuring something had botched up. It's still acting up when it's time to show me the unlock screen. I have removed the SD card, just in case, to check if it had anything to do with this issue, but the ROM doesn't start without an SD card (completely forgot).
What do you think might have caused this? I'd like to format the card only if necessary. Could it be a kernel issue?
Thanks
Az
Sorry that my answer doesn't help you very much:
1)Hasn't ever happened to me
2)The Rom starts WITHOUT a Micro SD,the kernel doesnt. So,try booting until MiniCM7 logo with micro sd and then remove it.
3)Are you sure you flashed nAa-14 & MiniCM7-2.2.1?Cause I did yesterday and this crazy thing hasn't happened to me.
Ah, sorry, I knew there was an SD issue, mixed up components a bit, thank you.
Well, I just tried your second suggestion, and the issue is gone. Maybe something did really get screwed up? Anyway, I'll try to take as many files as I can from the card and wipe it clean. That should solve it.
I'm still on nAa-13, haven't been here for a while. I didn't reflash the kernel, just the ROM, Gapps and keyboard (I believe it's your file, actually). It's a nice excuse to update everything, I guess.
Thank you very much!
