What rom are you running? If you are running a vanilla rom you more than likely need to flash a google apps zip to get the market.

Thanks. How do I flash it and how do I get the Google app.

You can find a gapps file in this thread, right under VANILLA - FroShedYo
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=824160
It's the gapps-mdpi-20101218-signed.zip file. Download and put on the root of your sd card
Flash the same way as a ROM. Boot into recovery (hold volume down button and power), choose "Flash zip from sd card", choose the gapps file, reboot when finished. If you flash a ROM, which is done the same way, flash the ROM first, then immediately after without rebooting, flash the gapps file, then reboot. Hope this helps ya out

Can't boot into clockwork recovery

Ok so i downloaded rom manager and selected the top option flash clockworkmod recovery and picked my phone ( im already rooted by using the one step click root) and then i picked install rom from SD card and picked my room (which is Bi-winning v3) and my phone turned off and rebooted and went into the samsung recovery screen i tried to reinstall packages but gave me a error , i even tried the "all clockworkmod" recoveries and no luck same thing happens boots me up to the samsung recovery.
Does any one know what am doing wrong or what i can do to fix this problem?? thanks in advance and im still on my stock android os have't changed anything.
First, you need to start with a clean SD card. Then, open ROM Manager, flash cwr etc. etc. When it is finished downloading, power off the phone and reboot into recovery. From there (this is where the clean SD card is needed) then hit "reinstall packages, then hit reboot. This should bring up the iconic green text. reply if there are any problems.

Is not very clear to me. Did you flash your phone previously? have you done ODIN, kies, etc? have you tried this?

-go here> http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1157002 and download the link in the EDIT: POSSIBLE FIX (put this on root of internal SD)
-Re-install packages through stock recovery.
For some reason Rom Manager is not flashing CWR right. I couldn't get it to stick for hours. Just kept rebooting into normal load.
Follow the instructions above and you should be good to go. The 1.72mb update.zip should give you root and CWR

it will root and install CWR for you.

i highly suggest you learn how to use ODIN in the Vibrant Bible. If you're doing anything that has to do with rooting and flashing your phone, be sure you know how to revert back to stock. You WILL NEED TO at some point or another or find out what if feels like to own a brick.

Help Installing Custom ROM

I'm trying to install this ROM on my Vibrant that's currently running KB5.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1105037
I saved the .zip file to my SD Card.
I installed ROM Manager and Flashed ClockworkMod Recovery. I'm rooted, so I got the superuser prompt which I said allow to.
I then went to Install ROM from SD Card and chose my ROM. I clicked ok to reboot the phone.
When it booted up, nothing installed and there were no options to install anything.
The top of the screen said Android system recovery (3e) then under it, Samsung Recover Utils.
Doesn't look like I'm booting to CWM.
What am I doing wrong?

go to rom manager and click boot to recovery or something like that, should take you to red or green recovery
wipe data/factory reset
wipe cache
install rom/file from sd and go down to project v then yes
let it install
go to advanced
wipe dalvik and fix permissions
reboot
leave it for 10 min (dont touch anything)
reboot again
Nope. When I boot to recovery, I get the same screen as if I choose install rom from SD card.
There's nothing about install from SD card on that screen.
Any other ideas?

did you reinstall packages twice from stock recovery screen after flashing clockwork ??
No. why do I have to do that? I don't have the install zip from sdcard at all. Am I even on the right screen?

you need to do that to be able to get into clockwork recovery i think
havent dont it for awhile
3e stock is the issue. Backup. Odin to jfd. Flash the update. Zip, no need for rom manager. Much easier.
Check the noob guide in my signature.
Write, that's a pain. How do I just flash the zip once I'm back on jfd?
Odin, root, flash takes 10 minutes.
Start downloading the files, while you wait read my guide to find the easiest method.
Ok. I'll try that.
Not clear exactly what I do after I ODIN jfd and reboot.
I have the ROM I want on my SDCard. What do I do with update.zip? Am I using CWM to flash the ROM or what's the way to do it without that?

Too late for that. I'm flashing jfd now.
Ok. Files downloaded. Doing ODIN now.
Did I need to do anything with that update.zip?
Stand by, please.
Once jfd boots, move my update to internal root with your rom.
Your phone can be on, both volume s and power for about 9 second, release at Vibrant logo
Stock recovery
Reinstall packages
Do it again
Cwr
Now flash your rom
Boom
Ok. Got CWM to come up and choose to install my zip.
Says Installing: SDCARD: Project_V_06.......
Finding update package....
Been that way for a couple of minutes.
I think something is wrong. It's definitely just stuck there.
EDIT: I did a battery pull, then back into recovery and the ROM is installing now.
I guess it wasn't such a pain. My wife will kill me if I screw this up.
I guess that I figured once I went to JFD, there's really no going back, but if I flashed the ROM directly from the 2.2 ROM I was on, it was a major process anyhow and it wouldn't have been any easier going back.
Waiting for ROM to boot and will then let it sit idle for 10 minutes per instructions.
I really hope this works better than the stock ROM and doesn't have any showstopper bugs or I'll never hear the end.
And hope that my Titanium backup gets everything pretty much back the way it was.
I did backup TWLauncher with Titanium. Can I restore that to this ROM to get my home screen icons back or am I going to need to rebuild my home screen icons because it's a different TWLauncher version?
Cool, linda should be installing voodoo. You're golden.
I'm also on V. Strongly suggest his trigger theme on top. If you have not amazing signal, try the ka6 modem. Only issue with V, I can't stand the stock browser after having the cm7 browser.
I use adw ex, no clue what versions are there.
If you have the paid version of TB, restoring apps is cake. Avoid system apps, do NOT restore those.

Yes, I didn't even back up system apps. I've gone through that on my Droid X and you get the sync thing to never go away.
Maybe I'll try that KA6 modem. I flash that via ODIN, right? Why KA6, in particular?
I think we'll stick with the stock theme
Don't try ka6 until you feel you need to. There are flashable versions.
No stock keyboard included!?
Any way to get that back? I'm sure she's used to using the keyboard the way it was and won't want to learn an alternative keyboard.
I ran bloater and found samsung keyboard and wifi calling there and it says it's installing, but they don't.

[Q] [q] NEED HELP!!!! What am i doing wrong???

I need some help.
I recently purchased a ATT GS2 I have it rooted and recently flashed Unnamed v1.0.1. My issue is every time i want to flash a new rom its pain in my butt. Like now, I am thinking of putting CM7 on and playing a round a while with that but I know I will not be able to just download the rom and put on sd card, boot into recovery, do a data wipe, then flash rom. It always gives me an message that the install has aborted. Unverified signature or some crap like that. So what I have to do to flash a rom is the following. Run odin and flash back to stock with root. Then run odin again and flash the clock work mod recovery kernal SGH-I777_ClockworkMod-Recovery_X.X.X.X.tar. Finally at that point i am able to flash a new rom from my recovery menu. I love the galaxy series and I do remember on the original having to revert to stock using Odin one click before flashing a new rom. Is it going to be the same with the SGS2? I had an att inspire 4g for a while and it was super easy. Download rom, boot recovery, wipe data, flash rom, DONE>
If anyone can help me out with a suggestion of what I may be doing wrong I would appreciate it so much. If you need more details please let me know.

If you follow these instructions to a "TEE" you will be able to flash CM7
without erroring out.
#1: delete the unnamed 1.01 and cyanogenmod zipfiles from your sdcard
(if they exist)
#2: download a fresh copy of CyanogenMod zipfile
#3: download a fresh copy of unnamed v1.01 zipfile
#4: copy both the newly downloaded zipfiles to your internal sdcard
#5: flash the unnamed v1.01 rom using cwm (not rom manager)
#6: after flashing before reboot select "wipe data/factory reset" in CWM
#7: reboot the phone into a useable state
#8: press power button and select "reboot recovery"
#9: flash the cyanogenmod zipfile (it will not fully boot yet)
#10: wait about 30 seconds after you see black screen with Samsung text
#11: remove and replace battery and reboot into CWM recovery
#12: select "wipe data/factory reset"
#13: flash the cyanogenmod rom once again
#14: select reboot in CWM
#15: in less than 2 minutes the phone will be ready to use!!!!
NOTE: if the above method fails you will need to start from scratch
"ultimate unbrick"
Good luck and I will be waiting for you to click the big THANKS button
I had a few problems with that, I had to download the CM file several times before I got a good copy. you should probably try running an MD5 on the zip file.
Excuse me for being a newbie but I am having a hard time understanding the difference between Rom manager and clock work mod recovery. I always thought they were the same. Can u give me a quick run down of the difference. When you say flash using CWM recovery do you mean from off position boot into revcovery mode and then flash? Not selecting flash rom from Rom Manager, right?
Here is where I am confused. At any given time I should be able to download a new ROM zip file. Place it on my internal sd card. Reboot into rocovery mode, wipe data, flash using CWM Recovery and be done. I have never been able to do it like that with my SGS2 unlike I was able to on my HTC inspire 4g. Whats the difference?

Forget about Rom Manager please.. Rom Manager and CWM are
two entirely different things.
Just follow the instructions to a "TEE" and note that I have not mentioned
anything about rom manager in my previous post with all the step by step
instructions........ For now, forget that rom manager even exists.

ROM Manager seems to insist on using its own CWM implementation, which has been broken on every device I've ever owned. For example, everyone who used ROM Manager on this device had signature verification problems, and anyone who used ROM Manager's CWM on the Infuse wound up softbricking their device if Voodo Lagfix was enabled, forcing them to Odin/Heimdall back to stock.
In-kernel CWM is the most tested and most reliable way to use CWM.
Three finger salute is the only way to be sure when you're trying to enter CWM.
So would u suggest uninstalling rom manager all together?

[Q] Flashing Custom ROM

Hi,
I have a samsung vibrant T959 with Eclair 2.1 in it. I haven't updated my OS yet , but rooted it using one click. Then to update my OS to Cynogen, I downloaded ROM manager (not premium as it doesnt support 2.1 ver). Then I tried to backup my current ROM using the option Backup Current ROM,but it just goes to recovery mode and has the option to reboot , delete casche etc. Then i just select the reboot option, nothing happens.. What is the problem? What more needs to be done. Is this problem due to the oldy 2.1 eclair I have? Please help. I m dying to update the OS..
Heres how to make a nandroid backup... Boot into recovery and go down and select something called "Backups & Restore" then go abd make a "Backup".
As a reference here's my guide to flash CyanogenMod 7/Miui... http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1307637
Sent from my SGH-T959 (Samsung Vibrant)
Your guide doesnt mention anything about Rom manager at all. I have gone through a lot of guides and it mentions as :
1) Root it ( which i have done)
2) Titatanium backup (for apps backup ..done)
3) Install Rom manager (done)
4) Update to latest clockwork (clicked the first button and updated)
5)Backup current Rom .. I am stuck here.. as when i click it , it pops out a textbox for name of the backup.. then i set it.. then it reboots ... nothing is backed up.. Can anybody help me in this process??? Please..
OK, although I prefer making a nandroid backup by these steps...
1). Booting into recovery.
2). Go to backup and restore.
3). Then select backup.
...If you really want to do it through Rom Manager then you can try these steps and tell me how they work for you. Since it appears that your recovery may be messed up...
1). Load up Rom Manager.
2). Go into Settings.
3). Go down the menu and check off Erase Recovery.
4). In the Rom Manager main menu select Flash Alternative Recovery.
5). After that Flash ClockworkMod Recovery again, that first button.
6). Reboot.
7.) Try making a backup again.
...Lastly, Rom Manager isn't necessary to flash a rom or to make a backup of your current rom. The backup feature in the CWR menu does the exact same thing just to make that clear. Now when it comes to flashing Miui/CM7, I again refer you to my guide if you get stuck...
Hope everything works out for you & welcome to xda-developers!
I didnt find the options you mentioned for ROM manager. So I am going for Nandroid backup.
I needed to confirm on the following steps:
1) I m skipping steps 2 and 3 ( FLASH BACK TO STOCK (2.1 Eclair) and Download mode)
2) I downloaded your 2.3.9 MIUI link and ODIN .
3) Do I need to follow step 6 abt Get CWR ? Overstock Kernel ? Is it that only after installing this , I would be able to make a bakup of current ROM? I have already flashed clockworkmod recovery which shows 2.5.1.2 in ROM manager. So i though this step would not be necessary.
And when i tried to go to recovery mode, there were only the same four options ,
a)reboot b)reinstall packages c)delete cache etc.. So i googled for this problem and i saw in xda wiki which said to select reinsall packages. So is it correct?? I really dont want my phone to brick... So i may be questioning too much..

This is stock recovery. If you are using Rom Manager, make sure it is installed correctly. There is a link in my signature that you can download the custom recovery. Download it, put it on ther insteranl sd card and label it update.zip Make sure it is the only thing labeled that.
Boot into recovery, scroll down to Reinstall Packages and hit it. It will cycle through. Scroll down to Reinstall Packages again and hit it again. It will cycle through again and your stock (blue) recovery will change to custom (green) recovery. From here you can flash your ROM.
Before you go further and we explain something that is not needed, what ROM are you trying to flash?
I have been trying to flash MIUI.us_vibrantmtd_2.3.9_Eng_Deo_ZipA_Signed.zip. Currently I have eclair in my vibrant
Ok i downloaded update.zip, clockwork mod from your signature.. I put it in SD card. Clicked reinstall two times and now I have in green color mode.
1) Here again, theres a option for apply sdcard:update.zip.. do i need this?? I dont need to select it right?
Now I need to
Please confirm the steps below to flash
First i should select backup and restore then after the backup is done , i need to follow the steps below.
1)wipe cache partition
2)advanced- wipe dalvik cache
3)wipe data factory reset
4)install zip from sdcard
Am I correct?
Ok then. It should work for you hopefully.
BTW make sure you are flashing a Vibrant ROM. Iknow it says Vibrantmtd in the .zip but just make sure (there are different versions of the Vibrant out there-ATT [Captivate], TMo [Vibrant model # SGH-T959], Verizon [Fascinate], TMo4g [Vibrant 4g model # SGH-T959v]). I did a quick search and I could not find a 2.3.9 ROM in the dev section. I don't use MIUI so I may not be looking in the right place.
If your recovery goes from blue to green then you should be able to start at Step 7 in N00b_IN_N33D's guide. Good luck and happy flashing.

Yes but check your ROM OP to make sure.
My model is Vibrant model # SGH-T959 .. how do i know if the 2.3.9 supports mine or not.. Couldnt find any info in google (I m too eager to update my OS so not googling much )
My backup is complete and I am about to follow the other steps. So when i install the zip file, if I get any errors, I can always restore my previous ROM .. right?
Yes you can always restore your back up, although not sure why you would want to restore 2.1 stock eclair since you know how to Odin back to stock anyways.
Again, since I do not use MIUI, I am unsure about what ROMs there are and like i said, I just used the simple search bar and couldn't find anything 2.3.9 in our forums. I can suggest anything from 360 productions, as they are supported well and the Devs are on here a fair amount of time.
Maybe before you get flash-fantastic, you should think about what you want out of your ROM and then read some of the OPs. There are plenty of 2.2s with everything working, a fair amount of 2.3.Xs with all the theming that comes with MIUI but also battery drain and memory leaks. And then there are 6+ flavors of ICS (4.0.3) ROMs that you can choose from (I have a guide on installing these if you need it).
OPs on all will tell you what works and doesn't and also the features of that ROM. If you really want MIUI, I suggest you PM N00B_IN_N33D and get his input.
Installation is complete , kinda seems a bit slow.. but what amuses me is I did not have to do the following steps mentioned by noob :
It should start flashing and then enter a bootloop (Vibrant [Splash Screen] > Galaxy S Cyanogen(MOD) > CWR > Repeat). After it does this loop a few times do a battery pull.
Reboot into recovery, which will now be blue (Hold both volume buttons and power. Release power once the Vibrant logo is up).
Go to “install zip from sd card”, select zip from sd... Go and find the MIUI ROM you put on the sd card and flash it again.
This time it should successively install.
Go to "advanced", and select "Fix Permissions". Once it has finished fixing permissions go down and hit "++Go Back++"
Reboot your device.
Do not touch the phone for 5-10 minutes after it has booted... Do Absolutely Nothing! This helps clear any possible bugs.
Is it required??
And then there are 6+ flavors of ICS (4.0.3) ROMs that you can choose from (I have a guide on installing these if you need it).

I assume you are talking about this. It is not required but is always a good idea to do. It lets the ROM settle down and any RAM tweaks initiated, different system scripts to finish running,... What is 5-10 minutes if it will save you all kinds of trouble in the future.

Sure. You can go here and read all about them. Note that some of these are advanced, experimental, Beta/RC status. So you will want to read them and do some searches before you ask your questions b/c you'll get flamed for sure if you don't.

I am running a custom rom, and it is already rooted.

Alright, so here are the links from the eclipse Rom thread: (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1977656)
First download The Rom and Gapps. I find it easier to download right through my phone browser. If you downloaded from your browser, it should be in the /downloads folder.
Rom: http://d-h.st/KON
Gapps: http://d-h.st/921
Next, go into recovery. DO NOT USE THE THREE FINGER METHOD. You can unlock your device, and hold the power button. It should say reboot, the click on recovery and boot there OR download a app called " Rom Manager" and boot into recovery from there.
Once your in recovery, Factory reset your phone, and wipe cache. Use the volume up and down keys to move, and the power button to make selections.
After that, go to "Install zip from SD card", then "Choose zip from SD card" and locate the /downloads folder. Open up the folder and find the Rom that you downloaded. Click on the Rom (with the power button) and install it. After that, do the same, and this time look for the gapps and Install that. Once your done, just reboot your device, and it should load.
**Keep in mind that you will need to re download all your apps. Sign in with your Google account you used to get your contacts and sync other data.
