You can just flash. Do a data wipe, the op for the rom tells you all the instructions

but best beat u can do is yes wipe with stock and odin, format sd, and reflash with w.e your choice is, my 0.5$

I used rom manager and I just flashed bionix from axura. It is running well and a lot better than I expected

The general consensus is that Bionix V flashes well on top of other roms. Official TeamWhiskey forums say that you do not need to disable voodoo if coming from one of their previous roms, but you may want to disable it if you're coming from Axura or the like just to be safe.

[Q] Flashing New Roms

so, this may be answered somewhere else. but i couldnt really find a straight answer. i have bionix fusion flashed right now, so if i want to flash another rom, can i just flash it with bionix still installed? or should i reflash to stock then flash a new rom? sorry if this was confusing, just trying to get straight answer.
You can do either, most customs roms do a wipe for you automatically so it's like a fresh install. Just remember to disable any lag fix you have running

No. you must start from fresh (stock). Odin back to JFD then root then install the rom. If you have voodoo installed, always disable it before you flash anything.

I have flashed many times over custom roms, you don't need to go to stock unless you are going from a 2.2 to a 2.1 rom

but to avoid future errors it's always a good habit to start from stock, especially if you're from bionix for instance and would like to install froyo. That huge modification requires a start from stock in order to avoid future errors. if it's minimal flashing then you can just flash without going to stock.

I would agree with that

That's not true. You can do a straight flash over another rom. However, after you flash 4 or 5 roms over and over, it is good on occasion to flash to stock rom. I must have flashed every single Sombionix and Eugene rom available and only flashed to stock before flashing one of their roms once or twice.
Honestly if you flash to stock rom everytime, then flash a custom rom, you're really doing extra work for nothing as a few posts up had stated " most custom roms wipe everything anyways"; so just flashing back to stock, then flashing a custom rom is kinda pointless.
Moved to Q&A as not development.
Answered my question
I was just about to ask the same question. Thanks to all for this thread.

Flashing your nandroid

So I started out with 2.1 stock on my vibrant, and used clockwork mod recovery to flash nero v3 w/ voodoo, before doing this I created a backup in rom manager of my entire system while still on 2.1, if I wanted to return to 2.1 I would just disable lagfix and restore backup in rom manager right?
Sent from my SGH-T959 running nero v3 in XDA app
First one question.....Why would u ever want to go back to 2.1?
I usually just skip ROM manager all together and go directly into CWR. Then select Back up and Restore then scroll down to Restore option. Then select what u want to retore. Its pretty self explanatory once u get into CWR.
Sent from THE Vibrant......
You will need to flash your 2.1 kernel as well as a nandroid backup doesn't backup the kernel.
Nero V3 w/ Voodoo is super duper silky smooth. I would never think about flashing back to 2.1 nanadroid from it. I forgot about the kernal.
Ya, I don't want to, but eventually, lol, when official 2.2 comes out, I wanna get that, so even if I just rooted, then used rom manager to flash nero, my kernel is now permanently changed? How would I change that back if it wasn't saved in rom managers backup?
Sent from my SGH-T959 running nero v3 in XDA app
why use your backup, why not just odin back to jfd?

Lot of people answering your question with another question.
Sano said it right...you're fine to restore your backup AS LONG AS you also flash a 2.1 kernel separately since nandroid doesn't back up the kernel.
So how do I flash kernels?
Sent from my SGH-T959 running nero v3 in XDA app
Same way you flash a rom with clockwork.
Where do you get a stock firmware
Sent from my SGH-T959 running nero v3 in XDA app
Just flashing nero v3 rom changed my kernel?
Sent from my SGH-T959 running nero v3 in XDA app
Yes cause the kernel are different in 2.1 and 2.2, which Nero is. U have to flash a 2.1 kernel if u want to use that nandroid.
Sent from THE Vibrant......
So would you flash the 2.1 kernel before or after downgrading, also where would I get a stock 2.1 kernel
Sent from my SGH-T959 running nero v3 in XDA app
First get the kernel from the bible put it on your phone . Once you have the cwm flashable kernel just nandroid back then before rebooting flash the kernel .

Thanks ill try that once official 2.2 come out

You will have to odin back to stock and check repartition and efs clear.
The 2.3 roms are still a bit buggy and are not complete, if you do not have Moderate to advanced flashing skills, then I would not recommend.

[Q] CM7 to Stock 2.2

After much thought regarding the 911 issue with CM7, I have decided to downgrade back to 2.2. Although 2.2 is outdated, it has a better GPS, battery life, and working 911.
What I want to know is how can I wipe everything before downgrading back to stock? This includes all music and various files left around by me throughout the years. I also want to know what the best kernel for 2.2 is in terms of battery life or should I leave it as stock?
Sent from my SGH-T959 using XDA App
format internal and external sd card under mounts and storage in recovery. Bali kernel
Sent from my T959 using XDA App
I don't think formatting will work because the recovery is updated and trying to install and older 2.2 ROM will complain about broken scripts in CWM. You may have to Odin back if I I'm not mistaken.
Sent from my T959 using XDA App
sorry, and not just my opinion, when you start over start clean and odin to stock, 'ghost in the machine', its real

Yep thanks for the help guys. Now I'm on the process of getting Bali on here as a kernel but I don't know which one to pick. The reguler release or the UV or undervolt release.
