How can i flash recovery in my Telus 2.1 official rom Hero ?
Thank you.
First you need to obtain root. Follow the instructions in the Prelude and Root & Recovery sections in this thread:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=645253
I can root but i can not flash the recovery. Looks like Telus 2.1 rom patched the hole.
What is the problem exactly when trying to flash the recovery?

I have flashed my vibrant with a 2.2 Froyo ROM from this site using ODIN. It works. Now, I would like to root my phone. I don't believe the ROM had root included. My question is this. Can I root my phone with super one click after the flash of 2.2? Also, can I use ODIN to do this?
I searched but couldn't find a ROM with 2.2 + root that works with ODIN. Can anyone provide a link?
Thanks
the noob guide has an ALT VERSION which is a leaked froyo that has root and a recovery... it's done via ODIN.
I use it, and then flash a custom 2.2 rom.

You can simply use 'SuperOneClickv1.6.5-ShortFuse' from 'http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=803682', this will very easily root your Vibrant. To use this, you will need to enable USB debugging and connect the phone to your pc/laptop.

Hey man thanks for the reply! idk I still can't locate that leaked version with root. Is it a .tar?
Is it in ipeench's thread?
yes, it is in the ipeench thread.... hard to see, the link is subtle... It's qouted below where it is in the thread, "here" is a link to the file.
First off you will need to get odin and the correct files.
I have packaged eugenes 2.2 pit and tar(md5) files in a zip along with odin. these are all the files you will need and you can download them here

The zip you download will have eugenes pit / tar / and an older odin (3 files).
I do NOT suggest using the odin that comes with this zip as it is older and more likely to freeze, I have a link in the noob guide for the newer ODIN if you do not already have it (the ODIN you used earlier should work, just use the pit/tar from the zip).
I would strongly encourage following the steps for the ALT METHOD (near the bottom of the first post) in the noob guide, once you have it up and running, go into recovery and flash a custom froyo (I suggest trigger for speed and stability).
Once you have Trigger on your phone, you will be a happy camper. If not, PM me.

Alright thanks for the help. I am attempting this shortly.
Thanks again!
Hi guys, I have had my phone for a few weeks now and I'd like to ask about a little problem I have been experiencing. So, I just rooted my device this morning and flashed the new ICS ROM. Though, I realised that I prefer MIUI. So, when I loaded recovery to flash my new MIUI ROM, I was greeted by a blue 'CWM-based Recovery v5.0.2.7'
I don't understand this because when I rooted this morning the recovery I had was a different version and it was orange.
What I need to know is the steps I need to take to flash a new ROM from scratch. Do I need to go back to the original ROM, then re-root? Do I need to re-root at all even?
I guess I'm still kind of a noob, so any help would be appreciated and I will click that 'thanks' button for anyone who gives a good answer.
Thanks in advance, Joe.

CWM and root are not directly related.
CWM comes with the kernel.
Root is part of the rom.
Miui will be rooted when you flash it.
You do not need to be rooted to flash roms via CWM recovery.

perfect answer.
I am stock, locked, s-on, and rooted with zedomax one click so i could use wifi teather and titanium backup. How can I apply the ota and still keep root? If that's not possible what do you recommend?
Are u using a custom Rom? If you are then wait for one of the Rom developers to incorporate the latest ota.
HTC EVO LTE
No I'm on stock.

Noob here don't know how. I thought I couldn't flash any Roms with zedomax one click root method and locked s on. Detailed instructions would be greatly appreciated.
Can someone be straight up with me and tell me why no one has answered my question?
no one will give you a straight answer because what you want to do is kinda not recommended on any device.
general rule of thumb is not to ota after root. so what you should do is get s-off using lazypanda which allows for flashing of custom roms and such and follow my guide that is in my signature to make sure that it goes smoothly (but ignore the part of flashing fresh rom, you can do it on stock with just root) then once you achieve s-off you can either stay stock and wait for a rooted version of the newest update for you to flash through twrp or you can flash any other rom (i run flex 360's rom, i find it the smoothest rom ive tried) and then just flash the radios from the newest update which will give you all of the 3g improvements (which is basically all you need, you can flash roms based off of the newest update at a later time)
if you need any further help feel free to pm me at any time and i will help you out
edit: also, after re-reading your original post, there is no way to keep root after ota so if you accept it you will have to wait for another root exploit which may take a while.
Can you give us new guys a step by step instructions for installing the new ota update> I have stock rom phone rooted with TWRP. Do we need to do a factory reset and clear the Cache, Dalvic Cache and System or can we just install the Odexed zip?
He can't flash a Rom guys, he can't get a custom recovery.
Op, get s-off first and the. Get your recovery and flash a romt

Yeah, just unlock your bootloader and flash a custom recovery. I recommend TWRP since it's more touch orientated (designed better) than ClockworkMod. Then download a ROM and follow instructions.
For those that have flashed Int. ROMs and have TWRP, did you use dumlock or flash the boot.img in fastboot? If anyone has used dumlock, can you write up how you used to get a good flash? I am coming from Sammy, so all of this is very new to me and I am trying to learn as much as I can. Thanks.

So you just flashed in recovery like normal? Nothing else?
This phone is super confusing, keep reading about flashing a boot.img before flashing a ROM or using dumlock. Can not find a straight answer to what I need to do to go from rooted stock to a ROM.

As usual HTC left off some security on the released version of this phone's HBOOT.
The One X on AT&T was like this too when it first came out. We could even flash RADIOS on that thing.
I am pretty sure the discovery that you can flash boot.img from recovery is pretty new.

Ok. I rooted my atrix before 4.5.145 released. Having rooted its not possible install that OTA(it went into boot loop when tried installing OTA on a rooted device) update. So decided to go back to stock ROM. One solution i found was flashing original .sbf using rsd lite. But it is not recommended to flash .sbf it might brick the device. My case i just flashed the .sbf. It went well i was uprooted after the flash and was able to install 4.5.145. Now i am again rooted and unlocked.
Edit: Other method if you have backed up your stock rom before flashing custom rom i guess you can returned to the backed up stock rom any time using recovery managers(CWM).
