i getcha...but these threads are more of a vanity thing than a reference thing. You get so many posts listing the same apps, so it flattens the concept. If people for once would actually ONLY list apps that have not already been listed, then these types of threads would actually have value.
A lot of people come to these threads initially in hopes of finding out about some apps they do not yet know about...but what happens is they open up the thread and they end up seeing multiple posts that look something like this
-Launcherpro
-handcent
-root explorer
-fruitninja
-adw.ex
-sportstap
......major apps that everyone knows about, and they just keep getting listed reptitively, so people stop paying attention to it and it dies out.
not cutting short your efforts....i started a thread like this on games, and after like 6 or 7 posts you could see that everything was pretty much listed....top apps thread are all over XDA
I dont want you to think im just trying to be a ****^^^^, so ill contribute with some not well-known apps:

I do see your point. And you not being a **** because that is something that I didn't think of the mutple posts of the same app so maby I could go about making a post and try to keep it updated with what other people's post in the first post keeping all the apps in one place and that way everybody can see them in one post

Ok, thought i'd do this so we can look for new apps easily, as we all will have something that someone else hasn't! And will save people (myself included) from trawling the forum every day for something new to play with!!
So Far:
TouchFlo Tweaker for polaris, but seems to work fine with my nike
SetVolume nifty full screen volume changer, change volume by moving finger round dial + set vibrate, mute, etc. by pressing middle button
pRSSReader free and great, Today plugin feature too
Batti shows battery bar at top of screen, change height, colours, frame, percentages, always on top etc. nice if you don't want wisbar, etc. installed for this feature
GroupSMS click menu in sms options then add group of recipients in one go, great for calling the herd to watering hole!
HushSMS *cof*cof* shhhhhh, great for messing around with friends, use responsibly!
BatteryStatus nuff said
dcinobar get rid of the bottom taskbar, who needs it!? you might need to toggle in and out of landscape view after bootup just to get today plugs on bottom bar
NikiSimFix hide sim contacts
SlideActions excellent app to end call on slider down action plus other nifty addons to help lock phone in call, etc.
PocketRar winrar, need i say more
ok, i've showed you mine, now you show me yours!!
Resco explorer, registry & Keyboard - The best solution for it.
Schap's advanced configuration - Excelent tweaker
PDA light - Small executable that turns the pocket into a flashlite, with several colors optionable.
Spc clone & plus 4 + transparent iconset - Again, the best solution for backups and Tabs.
nueLED 1.5 - To customize the led colours.
pdg minimal dialer clean - My favorite dialer skin at the moment.
icontact 0.72 + lycox diamond skin - The best contact manager, now even better.
Softick card export 0.8 - The only solution to use the pocket as a pen.
Slideactions - The greatest tweak exclusive for dual.
Wisbar advance 3 - My favorite skinner.
IGO8 + wm6.1 fix - Map viewer, in 3D (I dont have GPS).
MyMobiler - My favorite "use pocket thru pc" solution.
Pim backup - The only solution for contact backups
TCMCP & Coreplayer - The best solution for video.
---edited---
I think the links are all fixed now.
@TWolf can you supply the links also when they are found in this forum. I did a search for PDA light and didn't find the program, it did find a lot of threads on backlight settings though.
The ones I ussually install apart from ones already stated above:
- Total commander: file explorer and Registry editor
- Modaco NoData: switch off data connection while roaming
- FBTV: Dutch TV Guide
- Google Maps
- Sprite Backup, the name explains itself. Came with the install cd supplied with the device.
- Stay Unlock: prevents your exchange server to force a lock policy onto your device.
- Opera Mobile: alternative browser which displays normal pages very good on your Nike.
thanks ! iContact looking good, will give it a whirl when i unbrick my device :S
great thread! a couple i think are cool:
s2u2
spb weather
phontuner - musical instrument tuner, guitar tuner etc, very useful for me.
pocketgravity - fun gravity game
pocketpicture - nice paint program
bluezard - for searching through peoples phones files via bluetooth (naughty)
webcameraplus - turn your nike into a webcam
Forgot to mention Kaisertweak with my own tweak file: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=395478
And thanks twolf for the links!
I'm a huge fan of SPB Mobile Shell.
good good
another one i like is ArielBattery covers start menu icon (or move wherever you like along topbar) with battery icon with % and custom colors
WeatherPanel free today weather plugin
cLaunch tabbed today screen app launcher, oh and free too!
youtube playerhttp://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=385227 free, but you'll need HSDPA connection (or maybe EDGE will do), but very good, and yes free!
First thing I always do is install esmertec java (or jbed) then opera mini (mini.opera.com) - far and away the best fastest browser.
SMS-Chat:
http://iwindowsmobile.com/threaded-sms-messaging.html
pretty sleek and simple threaded sms messaging app.
it also has a "notification" feature that displays the text message you receive on your screen
EDIT: Per the suggestions, I downloaded and can confirm it seems pretty amazing. A big learning curve though, doesn't seem intuitive. Working on that.
I Really would like to start using this app, but the permissions seem crazy to me. Everyone's thoughts? Am I just paranoid? The developer seems very legit and know's whats up... fan of XDA too... so, probably nothing, but I am so skeptical when an app needs so much (though, given the power of the app, it sorta makes sense)
This application has access to the following:
Services that cost you money:
directly call phone numbers
Network communication:
full Internet access
Your personal information:
read sensitive log data
Storage:
modify/delete USB storage contents modify/delete SD card contents
System tools:
disable keylock,
retrieve running applications,
reorder running applications,
modify global system settings,
prevent device from sleeping,
display system-level alerts
Your accounts:
discover known accounts
Hardware controls:
control vibrator
Network communication:
view network state,
view Wi-Fi state
System tools:
automatically start at boot,
expand/collapse status bar,
set preferred applications,
read sync settings
NOW... with all that said, look at the beauty you can create:

Hmm.. quick widget access?
I think you are just being paranoid. It's obviously a widely used app and as you can see a wonderful app to have.
If this was an unknown dev I would say do some research.
Thanks for this didn't know widgetlocker had themes!

yea like i have power amp so i put that widget there i also have my weather widget there also you can choose a different wallpaper aside from the one your phone has
I have been using it for a week or so now. I love having my fancy widget with weather on my lock screen but I get more use out of the Pandora Widget. control my music without having to unlock my phone when I pull it out of my pocket. added a slider for some things and its awesome. check out my layout i think it came out great personally.
How do I use the theme?
Sent from my SGH-T959 using Tapatalk
I've had it for a while but stopped using it, it would often default to system lockscreen and it runs in bg using resources, but it is pretty.PS. why are my screenies teh suck?
Don't blame me, blame my keyboard's autocorrection algorithm.

Cool! Thanks for posting this. I'm just not sure exactly how to use apply these themes. What exactly do we do with the .zips?
I want this one - http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=11817549&postcount=69
1. go the app menu and open widget locker (will not work from an already locked state )
2. Long press on open space
3. Select "Custom Slider"
4. click the drop down box to select a different slider from those installed or select "get themes" and download them directly.
5. customize the slider before you select "save"
EDIT: http://widgetlocker.teslacoilsw.com/themes-doc/installing-themes/ <-- how to install
Nvm we need 2.0 version lol
Alright, downloaded it... it looks like there is a little bit of a learning curve on this app. I will try reading the guides already out there and see if I can give a readers digest version later.
I've been using it for a couple of weeks now and love it. I got it specifically for keeping the audiogalaxy app on the locker as to have quicker access to pause or stop music. I have also grown fond of the rotary lock as well.
I've been using Widget Locker for months and I've never had a problem. I've just discovered the theming aspect of it so I'm excited to get into that. I'm wanting to theme the rotary and the normal android tabs like the lockscreens in Bionix 1.3, hopefully it turns out well! If someone's already done this, let me know where to find it
Here is my first attempt.....

A good keyboard and a system for answering msgs (or, why not, other apps such as whatsapp) would be VERY appreciated too.
I would pay also for something like flipboard (of course with a different and smarter layout).

Yep, I forgot Appy geek xD
And again Yep, i use my gear fit with my note 3 and it would be great to have the possibility to write down something (msgs, whatsapp, other stuffs) without getting the note out from the backpack, especially while u are walking or moving in general.
Technically it would be feasible using the layout of the old physical keyboards of cell phones (3letters per key) to bypass the problem of the screen dimension.

Or samsung can make avatars like they did where u can design your own avatar to look like you and be used for health apps
A good general exercise heart rate monitor app. The apps included don't work for me.
Clock with Weather and Step count
I'd be willing to pay $10 for a watch face that shows Time/Date, Weather (the same way it shows it on the pre-loaded wallpaper), and Steps (again, same way it shows it on default wallpaper).
I have my watch oriented vertically and I don't really care for the large amount of space that the time takes up on the watch face. I'd love to have the screen divided into thirds with each third containing some useful information.
A keyboard basic. Sometimes thé phone is in the table. I have à baby in my arms sleeping. I can Not take the phone. But i have à gear fit in my hand. But i can Not answer a Good Answer...
I wish to get Sleep as Android to work with gear fit, but the developer said the API does not allow access to the accelerometer.
Gear Fit Fake Call
I think Gear Fit Fake call it useful app you'll pay for it : https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.ehz.inc.gearfitfakecall
I would like to see an app, what give more time to notifications (SMS's, e-mails, FB etc.) or just lock it to screen like calendar alarms do. 1 - 2 sec. screen showing time is too short.

Two apps I'd like to see
There are two apps I'd pay for.
1) An alarm function. This could be set up from the phone or the Gear Fit,
It could be set from the phone or the device, but it would be really nice to
have it vibrate at a preset so I could wake up or remember an appointment.
2) I like the idea of including the weather and steps in a V-clock, but I
want those with both an analog and digital clock together than looks something
like the attached png.

Gear Fit Quick Camera
This is the best app camera for Gear Fit.

+ Quick mode on your Gear Fit : you can take camera when screen off
You can find this app on Google Play with keyword : Gear Fit Quick Camera
Hourly Vibration for Gear Fit - A must have

there was already one named "gear fit launcher", but it doesn't work because its not signed.
