Has anyone tried this out yet? I went to get it this morning, but the download of extra files is fairly huge (600+ megs) and so didn't have time to download everything over wifi.
The only bad thing about that is 600 megs usually means more than 15 minutes of waiting, and just reading the reviews there are a lot of unhappy (and not to bright) folks that downloaded it and can't get refunds after finding out it doesn't work on their lower end phones.
But the Streak is specifically mentioned on the list of compatible phones. I just hope it works well, so we have something that once again, shows off the Dell Streak.
I wonder if there will be big differences between gameplay for official 2.2 folks and Steve mods?
I've played it on 3 different builds..
the 02 build is considerably smoother than the 315 dell build or 151..
but the o2 build seems to handle 3d stuff better than the others for some reason generally
I tried with official 315 with performance fix, the full video quality will be laggy if in the actual gameplay. Then I tried to turned down between 60-80% of video quality, the gameplay is acceptable, however the framerate is ofcourse not as good as normal 30frame/sec.
Bought this game the other day. Had my reservations due to the new 15 minute rule, but in the end it's only a couple of quid!
I'm running Steve's 1.5.1 with my Streak mildly O/C'ed to 1.113gHz and the game runs reasonably well. It's definitely not smooth, but it's far from unplayable. To be fair, the description does imply that it's optimised for Tegra 2 devices (something also eluded to in the intro videos), but it runs well enough for me, especially as it's on a device that's about 6 months old.
one word can express all my feeling: LAG
on my streak stock 2.2 runs well...no lag no problems!overclocking is just killing your phone(doesn't make it faster))

If DD runs smooth on the official build and lags on the official build+performance fix applied (my case), is there some kind of patch or something for the tweaked official build?
i have official 2.2 it works great for me i just use fast reboot pro before i start playing and it runs lag free except online but i also am on cincinnati bell with Fuse wifi so go figure lol. but ran great on road runner turbo 30mbs at girls house.
Any chance or hope we can get a CyanogenMod for the aria that comes with flash "lite" or could we install it ourselves on "CyanogenMod 7 for Aria"?.
I am trying to squeeze the most performance from my aria, and would like to give CyanogenMod a try over my current rom "Liberated 2.2.2 oc 806mhz". But i do not want to loose the ability to watch youtube or surf the web with 'flash'. My games are a little choppy but certanly much better over "stock at&t rom at 600mhz" so i would like to give "CyanogenMod gingerbread 2.3 oc 806mhz" a try.
As of now i OC my aria to 864mhz during play time, and underclock for normal use..But of course i am weary of freeze up. So far no problems and games run pretty good. (Backbreaker, Driftmania, and Motorbike Gp are my benchmark games). I also have hardware acceleration enabled through blade buddy(good or bad?)

'Flash Lite' is a HTC proprietary application that runs on HTC Sense, so there is no chance that it will be ported to CM7.
You can still watch most YouTube videos, either through the YouTube app or through the mobile website, because it actually doesn't use Flash to deliver that content. And as far as I know, Flash Lite doesn't even work with the full YouTube site anyway, unless I'm mistaken. (Been forever since I used Flash Lite.)

So iam guessing an android friendly html. In that case what rom would squeeze the best gaming performance. my current set up or another. and does enabling hardware acceleration make a differance

The aria may not be tgr ideal gaming platform but so far everygame I've tried playing has worked for me. I'm currently running cm7. I keep my phone at 320min/768 max ondemand for the most part. I use tasker to automatically run some games at higher clock speeds and with the performance governor when I open them (major battery drain if the phones not plugged in to charge though). Vm heap size can also be raised for intensive games. I also keep surface dithering off which helps. Of course flash based games are a no-go on cm7. Not sure if the flash lite liberated roms will allow you to play flash games either though.

what would be a good value?

I've found 32 to be sufficient for the most part. 48 is even better but it tends to make the phone a little less responsive overall. Its unfortunate that it can't be adjusted without a reboot so you could just crank it up for gaming and bring it back down for regular use.

I have it now at 32. Need for speed shift runs well i am very happy about that!
I was trying to find a way to lower the resolution on some "HD" games but have not found anything. as you all know those games need more screen that the aria can offer.

There's an app available that raises the pixel density of the screen. That might be just the ticket for such games. Its called something along the lines of 'Pixel Density Changer'. I don't recall if I saw it n the market or here on xda. I'm sure a quick search will turn it up.

Ok Thank you @CallMeAria.. Just to make sure with cm7 are you able to watch youtube videos, or web content using xscope(streaming videos)

Youtube yes, but only the mobile version of the site. Of course there's also the youtube app and youtube downloaders. There is also a megavideo app that allows you to watch video from that site.

Has anyone performed any performance testing between the two? I am interested in times ro perform basic tasks such as launching the reader, acessing a web page, etc.

I do not have any data to prove it, but I work the Nook counter at B&N and there is a very obvious difference in the response. I've had my NT since Tuesday and there's no way I would go back to a NC.
I spent some time at B&N playing with the NT. IMHO, and in a totally subjective manner, it flies compared to the NC.
Page turns are super smooth, video plays beautifully, and the general response of the device is excellent.
Oh, and it feels MUCH lighter. I know it is supposed to be 10% lighter, but it feels very nice. I almost picked one up yesterday, but waiting for some B&N gift certs from some award programs to save $$
It depend on if you compare stock NT with stock NC.
From my brief experience owning a NT and currently rocking my CM7.1 NC. When overclocking the NC to 1.3ghz, most everyday operations doesn't differ too much between NC and NT, home scrolling, book page turning, webpage loading, etc. However during CPU or GPU intensive task, like watching a streaming video online or playing a demanding game (not angry bird), the CPU and GPU on NT really shines.
Unfortunately, there is not many demanding game in the Nook store right now, and watching flash streaming video online have some minor, but noticeable video flickering issues (most likely a software problem that will be fix in the next firmware update).
So if you don't have NC currently, or rocking a stock software NC, upgrade make a noticeable difference. However if you already OC your NC, then the decision to upgrade will have to depend on your use case.
Check the video about halfway through the article, I think it will give you an idea (at least in comparison with NC stock speed, I don't know how much the NC is snappier when overclocked).

How about the screen NT? Is it accurate and responsive? especially on corners. thats my major complain on NC.

I have to admit that the linked article makes the NT seem very ho-hum. I think nothing beats using the device yourself to really compare it to the NC.
I haven't checked in the NC forum for the appropriate information but I eagerly await quadrant/linpack/antutu scores for the NT to see what we are really dealing with.
The same goes for the Fire. I mean we know the specs but we need something more quantifiable than, 'it's much more snappy' or whatever.
No offense intended to anyone.

That and fingerprint visibility annoys the hell out of me, constantly wiping the screen and it still not being clean.

Don't rely on Quadrant or Linpack for accurate benchmarks, because they don't capture real life performance. Case and point, here is my NC running CM7.1 OC at 1.3ghz, which show a Quadrant score faster those most tegra 2 tablet out in the market today. This is incorrect, an OC Cortext-A8 processor cannot beat out a normal Tegra2 processor under any circumstance.
Am I the only one to notice this? anything I do on the laptop dock seems slow, even if it is as simple as opening the messages app on the phone or sending an email through the phone, it still lags even if I only have 1 or 2 tabs open on the laptop dock browser.
I have my phone overclocked and it runs amazingly by itself but the laptop dock doesn't run nearly as smooth. Is the OS just that crappy? Will running custom laptop dock OSs fix this or just add more features?
I have used the thread "Webtop Reloaded" to trim down my Webtop. I've also installed the Chromium web browser from another thread on this forum. Between those two, it's much faster (Firefox is still terribly slow, though), but still not quite as fast as my netbook was on a comparable linux distribution.
My hunch is that the nature of the Webtop being an OS inside of another OS combined with the crazy hacks that Motorola used to make it work cause it to be slow. It can be improved pretty significantly by switching to XFCE or LXDE, but it's still not fast like the Android OS. (This is my experience; I haven't overclocked much to speak of, and I'm certainly no expert.)
do you have a link to Chromium web browser install guide?
In case you haven't already found it, it's here:
[Webtop] Chromium-browser on Webtop(jaunty) with flash support(no dependency problem)
Switching to the 2.3.6 system/boot and webtop fruitcake made a positive difference (Firefox 8). I am not oc'd and the experience is fine. I have switched to using the lapdock in the am to view email, visit my favorite webpages and check Amazon mkt for the free app of the day. (my laptop sits in my safe gathering dust). Not as fast as a laptop but definitely useable. Also, when I am out of town the Citrix Xen Desktop (which my company uses) means I have all my software including Microsoft Office available on the lapdock. It is useable, also.
i always seem to have this issue.. but i assumed it was because of the different os i am using, i am on 4,0 now.. about to see if it is any better now that they have lapdock working.. so they say
I use my lapdock with my phone OC'd at 1.45 GHz, and it's barely usable.
1 GHz is simply not worth it. My boss has an Atrix, too, and once he saw mine on his lapdock, he asked me to root and OC his own phone.

I dont know what you all are talking about a slow web top experience. I have fast when I was on the Wet dream ROM and on ninja ROM. I have the lapdock working on cm9 but not web top. I love it. I use it for college.
Have you all tried those ROMS?

Currently running pershoots cm9 ics 03.02.2012 version. There have been plenty of nightlies posted since but is there much to gain? I also see Lang versions but still don't know what that means.
This runs better than anything I've used before, but its the only ics rom I've tried.
There's Romans one which is stable and constantly updated before a fortnight, might want to check it out, his thread has the milestone 4, which is the currently stable version

Any notable improvements? Netflix and pulse run laggy and the browser needs to be open and closed or stops working at times on pershoots. Those are my main complaints.
Well ICS has been built to support the user's needs, only camera doesn't work since Samsung hasn't given us the driver's for those yet, but everything else has been tailored to performance.
Netflix still lags only because of horribly failed ARM mobile flash port which drains more battery and isn't that optimized for Tegra2 devices. It's a common thing on most, don't worry about it, I assume HTML5 would rectify this.
I'm sorry but what is Pulse? These apps are only for the land of milk and honey

Pulse is a fairly graphic intensive news reader: https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.alphonso.pulse&hl=en
The time warner cable app is also very laggy.
It's not that theyre unusable, but when in the hell are apps going to run as smooth on Android as they do on an ipad? I like everything about Android platform over ios, but it never runs apps as well. Use flipboard on an ipad and every app on the tab seems choppy and clumsy. Pulse is an excellent reader, and fine replacement, but I just want a smooth responsive scrolling experience.
Thing is android and IOS packages are built differently, where as apple sdk package already has everything needed to make a stable generic app for all IOS devices, the android version has to balance itself in terms of graphics and performance, what's built on an S2 and tested on one will differ on the 10.1, It's sad really
