hi guys, well to cut it short my market isnt downloading, one of the users "GHIDDA" put forward the suggestion that i have activated a bug in market (infinity downloading at 0 KB or ETERNAL DOWNLOADING) by removing gtalk130 or chat1.6,
ive checked my apps and dont have chat1.6, it was suggested that i flash my rom, i know how to flash but what i need is some pointers on the ROM required and if some of the excellent brains on here could tell me more i would be bloody grateful lol
If you have Titanium Backup installed browse to Backup/Restore tab and list here what google apps you have installed and we will take it from there.
im a dunce

i dont have it, i used seus to repair my firmware back to r2ba026 uk gen, i could go through the flash process to give me r2ba023 rooted, would only take me 15 mins, i think the problem is ive messed my phone right up and would be better flashing a gen uk voda and taking it to the shop to get it sorted,

Download the pack and flash that firmware.
Dont use titanium backup to restore any settings..
sweet
one of the old ones going from rf16 through step 2 then 3 to give r2ba023 then step 3 to root, originally had uk gen r2ba026 unrooted, used x10 root to root installed titanium and root explorer, went OTT with the delete and browsing through allsorts of folders, deleting what i thought was useless (inc things in data and app and delvic so it might be down to a missing file or something from them perhaps.....im a effin newbie hence FNG) hard reset got what i thought was a great looking simplified phone and aaarrrggghhh market not working, which was weird as i had rooted and restored a few times as i kept making mistakes and market was working as i had to download ASTRO to install the x10root.apk, but after a last restore it just stopped working.........................hence im a DUNCE
aaaarrrggghhhhh
went through the process, 1-3 but my market still wont download, does changing google matter, i created a new one yesterday

Is the problem that you can't download apps from the market, and it just hangs on 'download starting', or something like that?
If so, just open Google talk, and wait for it to sign in (with an active internet connection), and the download(s) should start.
It's a common problem - just have a look here:
http://www.google.co.uk/support/forum/p/Android+Market/thread?tid=57b5e3efa7477b50&hl=en
I hope that this solves the problem, as it did for me.
Good luck!
Internet
do you mean wi-fi, 3g or with browser?
what would happen
what would happen if i installed a rooted firmware and then removed all the google apps and even market, and removed all files and traces associated with them from system or data and then cleaned all my caches? just incase it has something to do with a file error/virus or bug, would seus be able to replace all missing elements in a reinstall, or to simplify can i erase nearly everything and get seus to repair?
Please read before going mad...............
hi peeps, just a quick update, google recently changes from GOOGLEMAIL.COM to GMAIL.COM..........anyone facing problems with sticky downloads should go to google via your PC and change your email to GMAIL (THERES A LINK TO DO THIS SUPER FAST, INSTANT CHANGE< dont worry you can still get your mail from your googlemail.com name)now go offline, pick up your phone turn on etc, go to SETTINGS/APPLICATIONS/MANAGE APPS/GOOGLE APPS and then press clear data to wipe, go back to menu press GOOGLE TALK and sign in with your GMAIL.COM ID........voila market works again the way it should, it must be a bug caused by the change by google recently.....but now its GOOOONE....thanks and good luck peeple
I have a Gtablet enroute right now and have been doing a lot of reading the last few days. When first released all the talk was that it was a nice peice of hardware but to be any good you had to use a custom ROM with it. Is this still the case with the latest 4xxx update?
Pexcer,
It all depends on what you want. That's what the choices XDA offers here are all
about.
When we started with G-Tablets back last fall, the software was so bad it was
almost unfunctional. It has improved with each update. With 4349 installed you
can put your apps on it and have a functional tablet -- but whether it is good enough
for you is your call.
There are a number of alternate ROMs and each has it assets and liabilities.
The only way I know to approach it is to read the threads related to each rom and
see what those advantages and disadvantages are. You can eliminate some that way.
And whatever you have left, you will just have to try and see what you like.
I know this is not the "Go use the _______________ rom" that a lot of people will
give you -- but I'm not pandering for anybody's rom. I believe everyone should
research, try and make their own choice.

I'm more inclined to go with the fastest rom I can get my hands on. I don't care about looks. And stock rom will never be able to fun as fast as custom rom.
That said, you should make this decision on your own. Depends on what you want. If you are like my brother in law who wants everything to be official and fully officially supported, then I suggest you stay with the stock upgraded rom. If you're like me who doesn't care that it's the official release and would rather have a super fast tablet, then custom rom is definitely the way to go.
In another thread, I was endorsing the new calk/clems combo v3, which my quadrant test resulted in 4081. I've posted a picture in this post. Right now, the only thing that seems to be faster than this is the modded xoom, which is only about 80 more. I highly doubt the stock rom will ever be able to give us this much power.
Thanks for the response. I may try the stock UI for a few days when I get it. I have been having difficulty in really seeing the differences between the different ROMs out there though. One thing I plan to do a lot is watch TV shows I've downloaded from TVtorrents, these are 720p x264 in an MKV, is there one mod that can handle Video like that or is that a non issue. I can also grab non HD formats which would have a higher chance of working, but would rather not.
I've also read that hulu can be made to work, at least on one ROM, can't recall which now. If one does Hulu and another doesn't that would be an issue as well. I only download shows that Hulu or Netflix doesn't have.
Any guidance from people familiar with the different options would be appreciated, might save me from some trial and error in the next couple weeks.

Torrents blows goats. their download speeds are as fast as my original G Tab os. File Hosting is the way to roll.
Off my soapbox, I agree with goodintentions. Speed and stability is the key. after that, ADW, 3D Launcher, VTLauncher and a few other Home screen launchers can customize your experience. let us know how yours runs. I won't go that route until the ROM's for it (1.2) are out and stable.
I don't have the newest update that just came out, so I can't comment on that. But I can mention why I went back to the stock ROM. I got my g tablet when woot was selling them. I left the stock rom on for a week and it worked pretty well as a shared device between me and my wife. The stock apps let you keep separate accounts. I put on clockwork and formatted the drive as recommended, then I tried TNT lite, g harmony, and cyanogen. They make your tablet like a big phone. When you sign in to the google apps, all you contacts, calendar, and emails are imported. This didn't work so well as a shared tablet. I decided to leave clockwork mod and the recommended formatting but put the original ROM back on. With the proper formatting, the thing isn't too bad. Probably not as fast as some of the folks here would like, but it serves our purpose as a shared device.
Half the fun (and half the aggravation) is trying different roms. Which is best? That is hard to say. Here is what I suggest. Don't get the latest update with the locked bootloader because then there is nothing you can play with. Get Titanium Backup so you can back up your apps. Learn how to connect t o your pc with usb so you can copy your stuff safely away while you play. Install clockworkmod so you can fix things and install different roms. NVflash is also a good thing to set up and learn but you don't have to right away unless you got the latest update. Now do this.
1. Use clockwork mod to make a backup of your original rom and copy it to your pc.
2. Download and install a new rom calkulin/clemsyn is nice. Use clockwork mod again to make a backup of that installation.
3. download another rom and install. Use clockworkmod to make a backup of that one.
4. When you've tried enough of them you can decide which one you like and restore it using clockwork mod.
5. Changed you mind? Restore one of the others!
6. Rinse and repeat as needed.
Remember Titanium Backup will backup your apps and data - so, if you install a new rom you can restore your apps and data. That means you don't have to go fetch them all in the market and you don't have to restart angry birds at level one.
There are lots of tutorials on how to do this stuff - read the stickys.
Good luck
Try a bunch of ROMs
I agree with enigma. I got my Gtablet last week and immediately updated hoping that the new stock ROM was good enough. It isn't. It's slow and "chunky" plus doesn't have access to the Android market.
I've heard good stuff about the calkulin/clemsyn and Vegan. Being that Vegan is Honeycomb I just went with that though I really should have tried calkulin/clemsyn too as so many must like it for a reason.
I'm new to Android as well so don't get too hung up on the difficulty of installing ROMs. There are very clear, step by step instructions to be found here. Each install takes maybe 15 minutes. So in an afternoon you could easily install and play with half a dozen ROMs before deciding on which you like better.

if you need vpn, cifs then you need a custom ROM
It depends on what capabilities you want. I need VPN and COFS so I use TNTL 4.4. Also, you can install alternate keybaords. The custom ROMs also tend to fix a lot of issues.
Shame on Viewsonic for locking bootloader in the 1.2 branch.

haha, GB is good almost HC good so far.
After much messing about and almost bricking my phone I've finally got it on a version of 2.2 which will run the standard upgrade but I have a problem. This version (compared to the older official UK o2 I had) has copilot pre installed on it which when I checked the permissions is down for full access to making calls, texts, viewing contacts, etc.. Basically all the stuff you wouldn't allow an app to do normally and as I have no need for it I went to the apps on settings to delete it but when I select it the option to uninstall isn't highlighted, does anyone know how to get rid of this??
you need to use root manager or system manager delete the apk from system/app
hope that helps.
Cheers, gonna try and get it rooted then. Already tried z4root but it didn't work so having a go with superoneclick!
Also do you know of a way to stop the update available message coming on??
root with superuser via streakmod or clockworkmod....not sure about the update message. I am on 351.
Done, was a bit unsure bout if I was doing it all right but it's all looking good so far thanks!!
Will look into the update to 2.2.2 and see what can be done with that once I've had a play with the root!!
So I'm an Android user since Verizon released the D1, now have a TP 32GB and am getting into webOS.
Just loaded the 3.0.3 leak, and found during that transition that everything on my TP was wiped...due to the activation/login issues, nothing was restored, which I think I get.
But I'm wondering - what is retained when updating to a new release of webOS when it's done in the normal way with an official OTA release? I'm assuming that existing data/settings are retained, and official apps from the HP app store are restored in some automated fashion. Is that correct?
Also, if you do a webOS Doctor due to a problem w/your TP, what data/settings/apps are retained/restored?
Thanks.
doctor WILL wipe out all your apps, so typically, you have to make a backup (under settings) and it will automatically restore everything.
but since 3.0.3 is a leaked beta, and the dev reg server is shut down, it wont provide that service. (your backup is linked to your profile and saved to palm/hp's/servers)
you can reinstall/sideload apps and use preware, but it wont automatically do it for you.
EDIT if your TP is borked, and you doctor to a legit version, your apps/settings will be restored, except for preware stuff (govnah, kernels etc.)
You can use impostah to get your tp to sync from the cloud on 3.03. I'm not sure what, if anything is stored on the tp because you have to restore from the hp cloud every time you update.
Sent from my Nexus S 4G using XDA App
its quite the nuisance, especially since the server is always busy or slow :/
i didnt think the could still updated 3.0.3 beta's it did for me when it first leaked, but i thought they would have disabled it. mucho appreciado!
You can use impostah and another hack to fix the log-in issue after you've installed 3.0.3, but that's after you have to skip log in after flashing 3.0.3, so you don't get any restore of your stuff from 3.0.2 when you install 3.0.3.
I heard putting the new leaked version will block android installation later cuz cm has been working off the old 1

When updating WebOS the official way nothing is lost, assuming all your apps are official as well.
If you're sideloaded any apps or installed anything from Preware you would have to check from the developers if there is any conflict with OTAs.
I followed this thread, had everything going well, but then I began having strange issues with my device. I tried to clear VireLauncherPro's cache, but then that screwed up my Google store. I tried to restore it via the tips at the end of the linked guide, but VireLauncherPro began to act erratic, and the Play Store began to cease working again.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/fire-hd/general/root-supersu-stable-appstore-custom-t3113311
Now I want to update back to 5.x and start the process all over again as a factory reset still leaves left over from Google Play and such, preventing me to do the hack from 4.x.
Thanks in advance.
Well, you probably want to specify your current FireOS version, whether you have root, and some other details that might help. There aren't many clairvoyants in here, so no generic answers

OS v 4.5.3
And I presume I am still rooted. I was before I did the system restore, but when I re-install Titanium Backup, it still acts like the thing is rooted.
My assumption was that factory resets restored everything and undid roots., but as I said, traces of Google Play store and such are still intact, and I can no longer update via Amazon.
It does not sound like you have TWRP installed. If so, you need to install SuperSu, and then with ES explorer take a look at this file :
/system/priv-app/DeviceSoftwareOTA.apk
See if you have it as is, or perhaps it is renamed? Rename it back, reboot, and you should get OTAs back.
I have that and it is named as it should be. I also still have Google Store after resetting to factory defaults, thus preventing me from going through the process again.
How can I just install a custom firmware into this so that the Amazon features don't interfere anymore?
