i was in the middle of flashing stock oidin when my kid pulled out the usb cable!!!!
now all that happens is when i hit the power key the download mode comes up but nothing else and the pc doesnt see the usb plugged in!
ant ideas?
Try plugging in while off then turning on while holding vol up/down...? Plugging in while already on.... give it 30 seconds or so while plugged in with ODIN on, etc? Mine doesn't always show up instantly, but I've had my phone unplugged while ODINing, and I just had to restart the process. I've heard that sometimes you just have to keep messing with it and trying, and sometimes after 30 mins of trying the phone will show up.
Also, try quitting ODIN and starting it up again.
Best of luck!
Got it working I took the battery out plugged in the usb then held down a 3 keys!
But for dumb reason clockwork wont go in to recovery now?
That's what happened to me, on my vibrant. After I restored it CWM recovery didnt work, and wouldn't "download recovery". But I tried updating froyo and completely ruined it so I have no solution. But this thread may help you.

Hello guys,
I have searched the forum and tried all kinds of combination of buttons to get my phone to boot up but to no avail. Last night I was trying to flash the phone using odin and the latest OTA firmware. I was able to get into download mode and odin detected the phone. I selected the PIT and PDA files and hit start. After 5-10 minutes went by it was still sitting there so I thought it did not really start transfering so I tried to reboot the phone so I can start again and now I just get a picture of a cell phone, exclamation point and a computer. No matter what I do all I can get is this screen to come up. Download mode doesn't come up. Even if I pull the battery and connect the phone to the AC charger I see this screen. I tried doing a hard reset and that doesnt work. Nothing I do seems to get me to any screen other than the screen i described above. Anyone have advice for me? Thank you.
Connect the phone to your PC and open Odin. Hold down power and the volume buttons. When the screen goes black, release the power button. It will go into download mode. Since Odin is already open, it should recognize the phone.
I've had your same problem many times. About 20% of the time, Odin just hangs and I have to retry. It's scary the first time, but don't worry (that's what she said)
YOU WERE RIGHT! This error screen was throwing me off. I just held it for several more seconds after these error screen popped up and the screen went blank. It is flashing now!! Thanks!
Glad everything worked out! Odin can definitely be a pain sometimes.
I'm trying to load the Unofficial 2.2 ROM onto my phone and I'm using the Odin method. I got into Download mode, got the pit and the ROM and put it all in place, the process starts but it just keeps getting stuck at "Do not turn off the Target." Now if I restart it, it won't even go into my phone.
Any suggestions why it keeps stopping at that point?

My advice is to repost this question in the Q and A section and then edit your OP, to indicate you've done as much... Add a link in THIS OP to your Q and A thread. You should get some help after that i'm sure.
does you phone just sit at a black screen? mine did the same thing black screen to where i doesnt look like its on but if you turn the lights off in the room your in you will see the screen is actually lit! no idea on how to fix this myself... on mine if you press and hold the vol up, vol down, and power buttons for a while, (until your fingers hurt) you will eventually see a black screen with red writing with some stuff i was unable to understand! but thats all i could get out of the phone... called t-mobile and they sent a replacement... but i would like to know what i did wrong because i will be flashing froyo alot and i dont want to run into this problem again... btw can get odin to recognize the phone at all!
If your phone is not Hardkey locked.
1) Remove battery from phone and put it back in again
2) Plug your USB into your computer (and make sure it is not in your phone yet)
3) Push and hold down your two volume keys (DO NOT HOLD DOWN THE POWER BUTTON)
4) Plug in the USB cable into your phone
This takes me into Download every time. I did what you did. I had problem with Odin my phone and it just got stuck. I unplugged the phone and rebooted it. Or I should say I tried. It was dead to the world. Black screen. Power button did not start etc. Ran into a note from Kazer and he suggested the above procedure and it worked every time for me. Holding down the power button did not work for me.
Try it out and let me know if it worked.
So I was odin'ing back to stock from bionix (forget which) and it failed. I've done this flash more times than i can count from various ROMs, kernels, etc... and never had a problem. However this time it failed, and I can't get back to download mode.
I've found that the best way to get to download mode for my phone is to hold both volume buttons and plug in the USB. This doesn't work, I just get the " phone ! computer " screen every time. power button and bottom volume gets the same, as does power and both up and down. Power and volume up goes to the "POWER RESET or UNKNOWN UPLOAD MODE" screen.
So, does anyone have any ideas aside from picking up a JIG? it's shipping tomorrow probably.
Take your phone into a T-Mobile store and tell them you flashed your phone to a custom rom and now it won't boot up. Then ask them to exchange your phone for a new one; see if that works.
Well, at least you bothered to type it out instead of copying and pasting from the other thread xP
use the search button.
If your getting the phone ! computer screen. your not bricked at all, just us Odin to flash back to stock. the Screen your seeing is just another form of download mode. but if you really want to get back into download mode, pull everything from the phone.
Sim, mem, battery.
make sure the USB is plugged into the PC with Odin open.
plug the USB into the phone.
put the battery in while holding the volume rocker and it should boot into DL right away.
I got stuck on this screen before and this saved me

I have a rooted i777 with SHOstock rom, I haven't updated the rom for a few months so I'm not sure which version it is.
The phone was working yesterday and it suddenly got stuck so I tried to reboot it (had to take out the battery because the power button didn't respond) but now each time I try to turn it on it is stuck on a black screen with the logo "Samsung Galaxy SII" and won't progress.
I tried to boot to recovery but it shows a screen saying "CWM-based Recovery v6.0.2.7" but it doesn't go pass the screen to show the recovery menu (it just reboots after being stuck on this screen for about a minute).
I tried to boot to download mode and succeeded, but every time I connect the device to my pc, the pc doesn't recognize it
(I tried re-installing kies, but it didn't help and probably the problem is not with the pc drivers because if I connect my wife's unrooted i777 to the pc it does recognize it).
so now I don't have clue what else to try.
any advice will be appreciated.
Make sure you have Odin v1.85 on your Windows PC. Look in the Windows Add/Remove programs dialog (or Uninstall a Program dialog) to see if you have SAMSUNG USB driver for mobile phones.
Open Odin on the desktop. Next put the phone into download mode by holding down vol + and vol - while plugging in the USB cable.
If Odin recognizes your phone, flash back to stock. I would recommend UCMD8 stock firmware, which you can get from the Download Repository.
don't know what happened to it but now it doesn't even turn on.
it's stopped turning on before I had a chance to try what you suggested.
now even if I connect it to the charger it doesn't show the charging status.
is there any other "force something" I can try?

Remove the battery and leave it out. Connect the USB cable to your PC. While holding down the vol- button (also try it with both vol- and vol+) but not the power button, plug the USB cable into the phone. The computer will provide the power. If this works, your phone will go into download mode. If not... you have very likely had some kind of hardware failure.
unfortunately it didn't work.
can't get it to download mode.
I'll try to leave the battery out for a longer time and try again.
should I try ordering a JTAG usb and see if it puts it in download mode or
probably my only option is to send it to mobiletechvideos?
I had the same problem, Your battery got too low. Pull your battery and leave it out for a while 15 mins or so. Put the battery back in and connect charger. Let the battery charge for a while without trying to turn on phone. The phone will not turn on with a dead battery even if it is connected to charger.
I just solved a problem that I didn't find any help with, so I thought I would post it here in case somebody else needs help out of this situation, and this is a recent and related thread.
After I pulled the battery of my i777 to test in another phone, without remembering to power my phone off first, it would only hang at the Samsung boot logo (stock UCMD8 ROM, rooted, stock recovery). Normally the Samsung boot screen shows for only about five seconds. Pulling the battery wouldn't get it to boot right. Holding Power to force a reboot didn't solve it. After clearing the cache it would move to the AT&T Rethink Possible screen once, then reboot and then again get hung on the Samsung logo screen. Also my battery was heating up a lot as it was hung.
I could get into both download mode and recovery. I tried reflashing my ROM from the stock file in ODIN since that would save all of my data IF it worked. This still didn't get it to boot past the first logo. Finally doing a factory reset on stock recovery is what solved my problem. I had to re-add my account and reload apps from scratch, etc.
First off I searched the forums and looked at the thread suggestions as I was posting this but nothing is like what I'm experiencing.
I was in the process of using Odin to flash a ROM to my phone. My phone was in download mode but before I could start anything, my wife said she needed the phone. Now I know it said "do not turn off target" but at this point I had done nothing other than enter download mode. I figured I was safe so I unplugged the phone from the PC, tried to restart the phone, anddddd nothing. Black screen.
When I get home from work I try charging the phone. Not even the charging icon appears. I try plugging it into my computer and it IS recognized but the phone only shows a white screen. And then it reboots. White screen again. It keeps doing this. I have tried all kinds of button combinations and taking out the battery/putting it back in. I took a video of my problem but it appears I can't post links where I am a new user. If you would be so kind as to google "youtube geiger9" you should get to the video pretty quickly.
What can I do about this?

I think it's important to note that your phone is a T959P Telus.
Yeah, if you had not tried to odin anything yet it would be safe to unplug
I'm not super familiar with this model but I'll try and offer some help
Will it go into download mode with battery out and then connecting to a charger?
I would try and remove your sd card, sim card (i believe this model has one?) And your battery when connecting up to use odin.
After you have safely made an odin connection you can reinstall your battery
Also, try rebooting your pc with phone usb unplugged,,,
If still fails
try different usb port,,,
If still fails
Try different usb cable,,,

First off thank you for replying.
I tried the steps you suggested but it isn't working. Without the phone plugged in to the computer pushing the vol up/down and power buttons does nothing. I can't seem to enter download mode again no matter what combination of buttons I press.

Yeah It is only supposed to go into download mode by:: if you remove battery and connect to a charger/usb to it,,, or by having battery in and holding volume down while connecting charger/usb
