[Q] reduced battery life after rooting - XPERIA X10 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

hi every1,
i finally rooted mah x10i having-
*Firmware version-2.1-update 1
*Baseband Version-2.0.49
*Kernel Version-2.6.29
[email protected]#1
*Built number-2.0.2.A.0.24
not installed any coustam rom the battery life has so steeply decreased earlier mah device lost only 1% battery in an hour in standby mode but with same settings now looses 15% battery why is it so is that expected???
also the charging time and rate have declined so badly i am truely in a problem plz help me.......

It doesn't make any sense if you made no changes at all other than rooting, this is impossible. Rooting ONLY gives you superuser access, it wouldn't do anything to decrease your battery life.
Check other settings you may have changed, or things you installed since that time.

gaming massive battery drain!!

i have the elegant white rom,its awesome low ram consumption speed etc.
BUT first to change stock rom(original from manifacturer)i could play 2 hours and 1/2 sometimes 3 without trouble with battery at 30/35% left now i play 5 mins and my battery goes from 93% to 87% in 5 min
so 6%x12=72%battery lost in 1 hours its bad really bad! i also installed the battery fix but notthing!in idle without playing i lost 2/3% per hours so this is good.
someone have my same trouble? it is normal?if so i should install back stock rom?
if i get stock rom again the battery should be fine?
the elegant rom is on stock 2.3.7 i had 2.3.3 when i bought this phone
sorry for bad english i have not much time
thx everyone
(already done calibration)
to full charge it takes 1 hours max is it normal?

Roms based on CM7.2 do drain battery massively compared to stock so going back to stock would help.
Battery callibration does not help - see Here
Same problem here... Living with it cuz stock has just become old and lazy
But if you really want battery switch to stock its way better than cm

There isn't a noticeable difference in both versions in terms of battery life. However, 5.7 has better performance and is noticeable.
You can try underclocking to something like 730 MHZ and save a decent amount of battery life without losing performance. Check this OC kernel out:
OC zImage
Also, use Cyanogenmod, ADW launcher without customizations is faster than the stock touch-wiz UI launcher.

For all those who r shouting that battery calibration doesnt improve battery.. Did the XDA said it improves battery life?? Do u ppl know wats the meaning of calibration?? Calibrating means adjusting something to the accurate value.. Not improving the value!! Even we never said it ll improve battery life.. Battery calibration just calibrates the reading to more accuarte one. So let the ppl calibrate it. Else leave. It ll automatically gets adjusted after 1 or 2 week.. U can see urself the change..

Yes, many members on XDA said that callibration improves battery life. The battery indicator on your status bar does not use batterystatus.bin. It does not automatically adjust after 1 week or 2. It re-calibrates every time you charge!
Read the article posted by XDA for more:

well i dont know about you all
but on my phone battery percantage isnt that accurate
cause when i unplug phone from charger and just open game or do something battery percantage goes to like 90%
but when my battery percantage is low like 18% it holds 30mins on 18%
I've tested many roms here and stock rod do tend to have better battery life, but... When i tested the RAZRv3 by TeamCooper, it had extremly good battery life.
When i got my Ace it had froyo, that lasted about 2.5-3 days. I upgraded to gingerbread official, battery lasted about 1.5-2 days on. Then i tried several custom stock roms and they all lasted about 1-2 days.
After that i started testing CM7 (both 7.1 and 7.2) roms and most of them lasted 12-18 hours (i used the wifi disables 3g function and some other tweaks to last the battery longer otherwise those roms would not have been usable)
Then i got to the RAZRv3 i used it for 2 weeks and the battery was amazing, it lasted easily for 3 days with no other tweaks than "wifi disables 3g" and also the performance was good. No lag!
Then i tested the CM7.2byFAT and the battery was awful but i really liked the rom so i keep 3g disabled when i dont use internet (all background apps use 2g internet) and now the battery last for 2 days.
As i've tested.... 3g takes really alot of battery in CM7 roms but in RAZRv3 (cm7.1 based) it worked like a charm.
So.. Everyone who wants really good battery life should test RAZRv3 that can be found here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1478807

Xperia ray battery percentage frozen

I have strange issue with my battery notification on phone. I flashed this custom rom: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1480337 and was using it for like two days and everything was super smooth, responsive and so on but than I noticed that my battery percentage stays the same until I reboot the phone. I tried installing other roms and kernels, I even relocked the bootloader and went back to stock but no help. Please help guys.. I am attaching image of my battery use here which is constant with steps where I reboot..

Flash sirkays 6.1.1 ics kernel. In which you can use your phone for 2 days
Then flash hybrid rom(2.3)--I choose this rom coz it is lite and can run very smooth even in 800mhz
Then under clock your phone to 800mhz and use conservative governor

Charge your phone to 100% (421)and then calibrate it....IT SHOULD WORK
maybe reflash ics firmware or change battery or take it to repair center
Just restart your phone.

When I plug my charger percentage remains frozen so can’t see wen it is fully charged. And when I try to calibrate it just says 0% battery spent for example when calibrating web browsing... It is as if some battery sensor burned out or something. Could that be the case?

The thing is that I can read my battery status via hard battery calibrator script which means that sensors are still operating. but I cant recharge my phone via usb and I cant reed my battery status on it (in status bar). Also my battery time is extremely poor - like 12 hours max on very little usage (about 8 hours of me sleeping included) or like 3-4 hours of heavy usage. Is there any one here with knowledge to help me? Thanks in advance

[Q] how to increasing your battery life alot!!

Hi I have really low battery life even I turn off everything. I play games alot but 4h is just not normal.
I really like to have more battery even if you think its enough because it cost me alot for charging and annoying.
thnxxx
I KNOW THERE A TONS OF SMILAIR QUESTIONS BUT I COULDNT FIND ONE SPECIFIC FOR MY PHONE
I had 4h of gameplay, finished 9MM, battery from 100% down to 10%, so as you can see, games are hard on battery, don't play games so much.
Buy an extra battery, you double your battery life for €8. I bought it here: http://www.e-giftshop.nl/a-25154890...j-accu-ba700-voor-de-sony-xperia-ray-1500-mah
Put screen birghtness as low as pleasant, use stock kernel, or stock based kernel.
And I agree with Madfysh ^

But arent there tweaks for optimizing the battery???
And if I go back to stock kernel I have NO recovery mode AND root anymore
you cant boost battery life.
There is no app which can do that.
In my opinion even roms which claim to boost battery life are fake.
You can Root the delete all the pre-installed SE stuff.
Use V6 supercharger
Calibrate you battery (to prevent any bad values-calibration wont increase battery life but will make sure it is at its MAXIMUM_)
Now there are some kernels which use a technique in order to charge your battery even more
example: Your mobile allows the battery to be charged at 100% and then they discharge it to 90% after 10 min.
This kernel will not reduce battery from 100 to 90. What is more it will increase the maximum value from 100% to 110%.
BUT (YES THE HUGE BUT) it can destroy you battery (yes fire or blow up).
So i don't really recommend it.
I wont risk my life or my house either just for 20% more battery
OR EITHER INSTEAD OF DOING ALL THESE...
BUY A BATTERY FROM HERE
http://www.mugen-power-batteries.com/catalogsearch/result/?q=neo+v
to tell the truth i never bought a battery from there but i found posts which were saying they are good.
Unfortunately more life time means bigger battery which means for a 3100mAH( the standard battery of neo v is 1500 which means this one lasts x2.08 more time)
or a 3400mAH you will need bigger cover.
Or you can buy the 1700mAH which is not a huge boost(just 13% more) and stay with your current cover.
It is up to you to decide .

Every time when you charge your battery to 100% battery stats got deleted/recreated. So any process of calibration is useless.

Your example only happens if you leave your phone on charger(for some time) after it's been filled to 100%, but even then Sony is pretty good in this point, some other manufactures are even worse. I think HTC Evo had biggest problem with that.
Do you understand what happens in that case, and that it's normal, or else you would have fried your battery keeping it on charger.
There is one great post in XDA, showing you how charging goes, try finding it, if I remember where it is, will post it.
Also, please tell me where is that kernel which will charge your batter to 110%, because it's simply a big BS, and a totally useless thing
And another thing, @OP: phone(even if it's smartphone) is not made for gameplay, HD or not HD, it literally kills battery so bear with it.
Only thing you can do is get another battery and risk your phone with some cheap batteries.
i cant find the post(it was on XDA) it was talking about different features of kernels and there was a kernel which was over charging your battery and wasnt reducing it to 90% too.
That way you had A good enough boost but YES a lot of users had problems because the batteries were "FRIED" i saw one which his phone was in smoke and burned at the back cover, someone's else battery died.
Hmm.. Just noticed when my phone says 100% charged its not! If I pull battery & reboot its 96%.. Is this a bug or what??
But does Supercharger REALLY help your battery [little bit]???
And could I destroy my battery if I always has to charge it?? [1x per day]
Im still gonna try calibrating battery but I also think it wont work.

And no, you won't destroy your battery, indeed you will shorten her life, but hey, you are using smartphone, and it's making your life easier, if you will gonna spend time on thinking to much about battery, you're missing the point

Battery and battery percentage calculations are pretty abstract.. don't try to understand it, and don't bash your head so much about it. It's affected by many variables, and it's not 100% correct.
Sometimes shut down/turn on can take few % of your batter, sometimes it won't take a single %. Same as I have examples where my phone was on standby and in 7h didn't spend one single % of batter, while other day it spend 2,3%

You can even add some build.prop & init.d tweaks in your phone to improve battery backup as you are rooted. And you can also try any custom roms which have better ui & also better battery backup & even good performance compared to stock roms...

[Info] Superuser mod(e) drains battery(!)

Just a heads up. Superuser mod for experia has a lot of advantages, dont get me wrong. But I've done some testing after I was struck by a sudden drop of battery life and SOT. Superuser mod does indeed drain your battery considerably. And phone runs marginally hotter. After I flashed the services.jar my SOT was just shy of 6hrs, sometimes 6h as opposed to constant over 7hrs of SOT without this mod flashed. Android services was always in higher percentage, sometimes even up to 15%, while without this mod it was more like 5% constantly. I flashed rajeevs superuser mod file.
Also there are small but noticeable microstutters while pulling down the status bar, especially when you just turn on wifi or data. Wallpaper stutters and shifts for the first time when you scroll the homescreen after unlock. This doesn't happen without this mod.
So this is worth considering, you will get a lot of benefits but also this means you will have to sacrifice your battery life, unfortunately.
