[Info] Superuser mod(e) drains battery(!) - Xperia Z2 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Just a heads up. Superuser mod for experia has a lot of advantages, dont get me wrong. But I've done some testing after I was struck by a sudden drop of battery life and SOT. Superuser mod does indeed drain your battery considerably. And phone runs marginally hotter. After I flashed the services.jar my SOT was just shy of 6hrs, sometimes 6h as opposed to constant over 7hrs of SOT without this mod flashed. Android services was always in higher percentage, sometimes even up to 15%, while without this mod it was more like 5% constantly. I flashed rajeevs superuser mod file.
Also there are small but noticeable microstutters while pulling down the status bar, especially when you just turn on wifi or data. Wallpaper stutters and shifts for the first time when you scroll the homescreen after unlock. This doesn't happen without this mod.
So this is worth considering, you will get a lot of benefits but also this means you will have to sacrifice your battery life, unfortunately.

well, my 4 Rooted phones I have not had a problem with the battery and even more than being root can change many things and have even better battery performance

anyway you need root for that and also my services have patched, and no problem

I agree with you completely
I've noticed that my phone is always getting hot and battery performance is poor…

[Q] reduced battery life after rooting

hi every1,
i finally rooted mah x10i having-
*Firmware version-2.1-update 1
*Baseband Version-2.0.49
*Kernel Version-2.6.29
[email protected]#1
*Built number-2.0.2.A.0.24
not installed any coustam rom the battery life has so steeply decreased earlier mah device lost only 1% battery in an hour in standby mode but with same settings now looses 15% battery why is it so is that expected???
also the charging time and rate have declined so badly i am truely in a problem plz help me.......
It doesn't make any sense if you made no changes at all other than rooting, this is impossible. Rooting ONLY gives you superuser access, it wouldn't do anything to decrease your battery life.
Check other settings you may have changed, or things you installed since that time.

gaming massive battery drain!!

i have the elegant white rom,its awesome low ram consumption speed etc.
BUT first to change stock rom(original from manifacturer)i could play 2 hours and 1/2 sometimes 3 without trouble with battery at 30/35% left now i play 5 mins and my battery goes from 93% to 87% in 5 min
so 6%x12=72%battery lost in 1 hours its bad really bad! i also installed the battery fix but notthing!in idle without playing i lost 2/3% per hours so this is good.
someone have my same trouble? it is normal?if so i should install back stock rom?
if i get stock rom again the battery should be fine?
the elegant rom is on stock 2.3.7 i had 2.3.3 when i bought this phone
sorry for bad english i have not much time
thx everyone
(already done calibration)
to full charge it takes 1 hours max is it normal?

Roms based on CM7.2 do drain battery massively compared to stock so going back to stock would help.
Battery callibration does not help - see Here
Same problem here... Living with it cuz stock has just become old and lazy
But if you really want battery switch to stock its way better than cm

There isn't a noticeable difference in both versions in terms of battery life. However, 5.7 has better performance and is noticeable.
You can try underclocking to something like 730 MHZ and save a decent amount of battery life without losing performance. Check this OC kernel out:
OC zImage
Also, use Cyanogenmod, ADW launcher without customizations is faster than the stock touch-wiz UI launcher.

For all those who r shouting that battery calibration doesnt improve battery.. Did the XDA said it improves battery life?? Do u ppl know wats the meaning of calibration?? Calibrating means adjusting something to the accurate value.. Not improving the value!! Even we never said it ll improve battery life.. Battery calibration just calibrates the reading to more accuarte one. So let the ppl calibrate it. Else leave. It ll automatically gets adjusted after 1 or 2 week.. U can see urself the change..

Yes, many members on XDA said that callibration improves battery life. The battery indicator on your status bar does not use batterystatus.bin. It does not automatically adjust after 1 week or 2. It re-calibrates every time you charge!
Read the article posted by XDA for more:
google-engineer-debunks-myth-wiping-battery-stats-does-not-improve-battery-life/
well i dont know about you all
but on my phone battery percantage isnt that accurate
cause when i unplug phone from charger and just open game or do something battery percantage goes to like 90%
but when my battery percantage is low like 18% it holds 30mins on 18%
I've tested many roms here and stock rod do tend to have better battery life, but... When i tested the RAZRv3 by TeamCooper, it had extremly good battery life.
When i got my Ace it had froyo, that lasted about 2.5-3 days. I upgraded to gingerbread official, battery lasted about 1.5-2 days on. Then i tried several custom stock roms and they all lasted about 1-2 days.
After that i started testing CM7 (both 7.1 and 7.2) roms and most of them lasted 12-18 hours (i used the wifi disables 3g function and some other tweaks to last the battery longer otherwise those roms would not have been usable)
Then i got to the RAZRv3 i used it for 2 weeks and the battery was amazing, it lasted easily for 3 days with no other tweaks than "wifi disables 3g" and also the performance was good. No lag!
Then i tested the CM7.2byFAT and the battery was awful but i really liked the rom so i keep 3g disabled when i dont use internet (all background apps use 2g internet) and now the battery last for 2 days.
As i've tested.... 3g takes really alot of battery in CM7 roms but in RAZRv3 (cm7.1 based) it worked like a charm.
So.. Everyone who wants really good battery life should test RAZRv3 that can be found here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1478807

Why do stock battery icons never show percentage?

I know we can use widgets or change the status bar one with UOT, but it seems ludicrous to imagine such a simple feature hasn't become standard. Is there some patent troll that is keeping devices from having the battery percentage in the system bar? I see no other legitimate reason.

That is a really good question actually. You have me wondering the same thing now. I know on my girlfriend's iPhone 4s she can set her battery display to show a percentage. I wonder if Apple has a patent on that for smart phones ...ridiculous if they do.
wellll guys....its android and not a****ing iphone
so accept it or install cyanogenmod as far as i know it supports what u want
I have an answer which you might find interesting...
I was testing a custom rom, which had a lot of users complaining and incessantly whining about "battery drain"...
But I never felt any such drain...
We were actually surprised that, users had their battery percentages "drain" from 100 to 60 in 4 hours (they used batt %), after which they charged their phone...
I, on the other hand, didn't take notice of the battery step (present in the stock icon)...
I used to charge my phone after 10 hours with around 10% batt left...
I then asked another fellow user to use stock batt icon, rather than the % icon...
And miraculously, his battery drain was minimized...(by just changing a damned icon)...same confirmed with a few others...
So we could conclude that, the battery drain was happening due to the % icon, and used to vanish/minimize when using the stock icon...
Hence, it was attributed to a placebo effect...
You thought that battery was draining because the numbers between 1 - 100 are going down...while the stock icon ignores battery movement lesser than 10%...
It isn't anything other than your mind telling you that battery is going down...
I do not know the "official" reason why it never made it to stock android...
But if you are willing, just try it out...
Without changing your daily usage and apps, spend a few days with the stock icon, and then a few days with the % icon...
The result, still might be really subjective, but well, this is what I could find...

Yap... some months ago eard something quiet similar to this state...
a guy postet that he installed an battery widget from the play store
after a while he had big problems because his battery was gettin empty very fast
so one other guy told him to look under settings in the battery context menu wich were his biggest battery drainers
and who could have imagined this on top was the battery widget
after he unsinstalled the widget his problems were vanished
so guys
accept that u have a battery without percentage but a battery drain in a size where u cant watch the amount of battery power percentage falling from one second to the other
so please accept it
No, I never used a batt widget...
There was option to have either % icon, or the stock one, baked into the rom itself...
So there wasn't any battery drain related to rogue apps...

[Q] Battery issue? Possibly the Costum Kernel?

Well recently I bought the Beast S3.
Now I installed this first Kernel - CF-Root-SGS3-v6.4
And CM9 rom, was working great though there's one problem the damn battery drain is like being raped evey 5-10 mins if not less I loose 1-2% battery.
Now I though it might be the Kernel so I switched to Siyah-s3-v1.5.3-CWM, no go still the same result.
I changed my Rom to CM10, same result.
Here's a Screenie of my device (In Attachments)
Could you help out a little? I've checked and not sure where is the issue, and I understand that super huge screen consumes allot of power but even if I set brightness to 0-25% I get the same result...
Most battery issues are caused by installed user apps. Install Cpu Spy for cpu deep sleep issues and Better Battery Statts for locating apps that show unusual activity`s and drain the battery.

This battery drain percentage looks normal to me.
Sometimes I lose 5% without doing anything, even if I have a perfectly cleaned rom.

Seeder entropy generator - maybe it really worked.

This mod promise to almost eliminated the lag on any android by providing more random number for vm use (you may not aware but when process running, it require a lot random number for various task, when it run out, lag happen - that's the theory).
Just saw this on xda front page and tried myself Fly + JJ3.3 with a lot of modded by myself.
It still too soon for me to confirm it work or not, but so far the phone is not sluggish at all (last 30 minute, playing with heavy browsing and map and instagram to eat all the memory).
I use seeder_v6 script http://forum.xda-developers.com/show...&postcount=738
You can try with the apk (second attachment in #1 post first to see if still skeptical about this stuff)
Please share the experience in performance, battery, abnormal behavior of phone if happen.
This maybe a biggest performance tweak for a long time.
Sounds interesting. I'm curious if it really works and how does it affect the battery life. Please, can somebody test it (or already done it) and can tell something about?

I currently using it. Most noticeable is how quick recent apps list popup. Many apps startup quicker (look like they use a lot of random data at startup) - but when you already run low on ram like heavy browsing, this will not able to help you reduce the lag.
I'm currently on happy side with more snappy recent apps list, it kinda too slow for me before. But maybe it's because I've just restart the phone, need hours before I can really judge it. So much placebo for now.
This zip is to flashing via recovery, yup? And how to uninstall this?
Yes, via recovery, I'm uninstall things by checking what in the zip and what already in system, so I can revert it.
You sould try the apk in the first post of that thread first, if it work well, dont need to flash anything.
Actualy. This brakes the system. I have tasted it. Many games become fc also. It boosts the benchmark score but... It is just not for our phones. Feel free to try it but..

I am using it, and it is pretty good at eliminating lags for certain functions, but it wouldn't surprise me if it screwed up some other things, like Mr Tapa pointed out, so like most android things it is probably up to the end user to decide if it is worth it for them or not.
So far only smart app protector FC on me, but this app also update yesterday so I dont know if seeder really the reason.
In theory, just pump more random data into the pool can not break the system, the problem maybe it not random enough or something.
The result is very positive for me until now.

Maybe it awake more, but clearly not at a rate I can see difference visible on that graph.
If someone already have BetterBatteryStats installed can do the test with clear number.
No noticeable for me until now about battery life decrease,
Even if it's noticable, I willing to give up 10% battery for speed, it last about 42h average previously.
The reason for more free ram and more snappy apps startup is not clear. Actually it's hard to believe this flaw not be addressed for that much long.
But for what ever reason, snappier phone is still a snappier phone, and I like it. Maybe they should try to study what the real culprit in performance boost and give it to me...
