[Q] Anybody having problems with 2.1.4??? - Gen8, Gen9, Gen10 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hi there,
I've recently updated my Archos 101 to the 2.1.4 firmware which has fixed the ridiculous bug of not being able to download anything but it has seemed to given me a myriad of further hugs to my device.
It'll slow down to a crawl sometimes and I quite often have to hard reset the device because it has crashed.
Is anybody else experiencing this and is there any specific cause for this poor performance??

I don't have this issue at all archos 70 250GB FW 2.1.4

I updated, not having any problems you mention!
The only thing is a I feel that my battery drains a tad bit faster (maybe I'm paranoid, I dunno), could be my nerves, I made it through a flight from LA to Fl with continuous websurfing and was at 49% when I landed!
Good luck bro!

No problems on my 101 either, on the contrary, with the latest flash from the market I can even watch bbc iplayer on it

There are actually 2 other threads going on the topic of 2.1.4
the problems seem to be hit or miss. Some people (myself included) have noticed a significant decrease in battery performance...others have not had any battery issues. Some people have all kinds of flash problems and youtube problems, others don't.
So basically, I say that if you are not having any issues with your Archos...don't upgrade. You can't fix what ain't broke. However, if things are all jacked up for you, try the upgrade and pray for the best.

Should we still buy this phone?

Hey guys,
I was planning on getting the SGSII (I just sold my SGS for this, actually) but after lurking around here a bit I'm now a bit weary of going ahead with the purchase.
Between battery drain issues, screen issues, Wi-Fi issues, heat issues, and now approx. 3-4 different versions of the SGSII (which makes me scared of ROM incompatibility between the different models) I guess I just need to ask... is this phone actually worth getting, or will I get shafted by a new, fixed version that will come out in a couple of months?
Your opinion?
No if you cannot differentiate between a few users with problems and the majority with no problem . Dont buy you will only go looking for problems .
My phone and many others have .
One No battery problem
Two No yellow screen problem
Three No other screen issues
Four No WiFi issues
Five No heat issues
Six No problems with rom incompatibility only an idiot will install the wrong rom .
jje
JJEgan Is Right..
I have brought my mobile even after knowing problem. After getting it I have started searching for what is new not for a Problem...
Only problem for me is Screen will become hot while charging but not soooo Much hot just very little other than that Great Mobile..
It will be nice if they release NFC in this not by releasing new model like the rumors saying I9101 etc ..This is One of the Best Mobiles till Now.Many people know about the problem Few People having but still they are buying ..Many shops are out of stock...I will say GET IT
I have to mostly agree with jje, except for 1 point. ALL SGS2s have the discolouration issue, but you have to specifically set up your phone in a particular manner (that no-one actually uses) and go looking for the issue in order to even vaguely comprehend what the "problem" actually is. Seriously, when you do see it you realise that the problem lies in the people whining about it, not the phone.
Unless you're unlucky enough to just get a dud phone, get it and you won't regret it. Best phone I've ever had, and that's after nearly 2 years with a HD2 and every ROM under the sun.
Duly noted. My main concern is not software issues which can and will be sorted out either by Samsung or the Android community, my main concern is with hardware issues (screen, battery, etc) which obviously can not be fixed by the community.

Personally, I don't have any hardware issues.
I get a full day of battery out of my phone, and that's using it as a smartphone (browsing; notifications such as facebook, twitter and news updates; wordfeud etc.) If I turn off all data and use it as a phone and SMS device only then I get about 2.5 days.
As for the screen, I have 0 complaints about it. It's seriously the best screen I've ever seen on a mobile device. I particularly love having mostly black backgrounds. Not only does it increase battery life, it looks bloody lovely!
Please bear in mind that most people only post threads when they have problems. It makes it sound like everyone is complaining, but they're not. If we had a real count of how many users are on this site, compared to how many are having real problems then you'd see it's actually only a small percentage, and you're gonna get that with any piece of tech.
I am not a rich guy but i gambled knowing all the problems i have been reading... So far it is just a great phone... It is a phone that make you gamble
Yet to find a problem. Battery works for a day (if this is a problem for you)...
I keep upgrading whenever a new phone comes out - SGS2 is THE fastest phone I've had with the BEST battery life.
With other phones, HTC Desire, Hero, etc I've had issues that I've had to counter by installing custom ROM's & acting as a guinie pig for the dev's but with this one - I'm on the stock ROM with no updates - it's rock solid and absolutely no issues.
I wouldn't think twice in recommending this phone.
my 2 cents...
to be honest i really love the phone. it has some annoyances but i really do like it. it's blazin' fast, i love android, and even the look and feel of the phone...
now, the only thing is: i only get about half a day of juice (recharge at night and once again in the afternoon and to be honest i just have no clue how people are getting those numbers like 20h+ of moderate use (well i guess it depends on how you dfine moderate use)... i have 0 widgets (4 widgets (stock calenda, stock powermanagement, google search and the beautiful weather thing with clock))...and main thing i do is: whats app, music, some browsing, emails (set to check only once an hour) and of course make calls... but i believe that it has to do with a bug somewhere. i freezed the wifi-sharing thingy and tried everything i've read so far to conserve battery. eventhough i have the screen set to about 10-30% brightness or auto brightness, it not very spurprised, is always around 60% or more and the android os and system use quite a lot...
but all that said, i still love the phone and i'm glad i bought it!
It's definitely a VFM. And frankly I dont have any WiFi problem. Battery it's okay too. And unless you focus at that screen with a digital camera you won't even notice the Yellowish tint. I am frankly very happy with mine.
Regards.

People with issues tend to post more. Those are the threads with 1000post not the positive threads that might reach 50post.

Reboot-bad battery issues for some-suspect bad update/app to be the cause

Hello guys
Being a long time member, and having rooted many of my devices before (Xoom, HTC Sensation etc) I have seen complaints like people are posting where some here are experiencing no battery/rebooting issues(like me) while others are experiencing the opposite. The first thing that any experienced developer here on XDA would tell you is that something went wrong when updating to the new .13 update, which is why some are experiencing problems, while others are not. It does not make sense that a good majority of us, have no issues...if the new .13 update was bad/faulty, then it would affect all of us, not just some. I would highly recommend that people with issues reformat/start from scratch, as this has helped others with similar issues. If this does not help, then unfortunately you just experience a bad update, which of course the only fix would be is to try to reinstall the update (easy to do if rooted) or wait for a new update from Asus.
Also, if your battery is dying quickly, check to see if it is warm to the touch even if you are not using it. If so, then this would definitely point to an app trying to do something in the background without your knowledge..maybe there is an app trying to sync but your wifi is off, or an app that you installed that does not play nice with ICS. I would suggest that those with problems can list their installed apps, and those without issues can see if they have any of the apps on their devices...this can help narrow the issue down and hopefully find the culprit.
Thanx

All fair points, but many people suspect that there are at least two batches of Primes floating around with different hardware. After all, even before this update, there were groups of people that had freezes and reboots and others who had none.
Another telling point is that as far as I can tell, .13 update completely fixed Primes that were previously having sleep of death and reboot problems, and caused sleep of death, reboot and battery problems only on Primes that were previously working fine. This also suggests two different hardware sets to me (e.g., they tested the .13 update only/mostly on the set of Primes that had previous problems).
the bad update/ flash/ application as a culprit to all the Primes problems went out the window long ago this is all horse**** the problem is with the tegra3 in some way and different hardware variances in X Prime vs B Prime vs Z Prime etc....etc...etc...

But that doesn't make sense either, because I had no rebooting issues before and no battery issues after updating to .13.
What we need here is hard data evidence from something such as a battery/hardware/resource monitor, which I have not seen from anyone with battery issues.
I don't have the issue so there is really nothing for me to monitor and gather data from.
Just had this issue pop up. Was using my Prime this morning on the charger, closed the screen (have the dock) pulled the plug put it in my bag for the day. Went to class, and then to work pulled it out at 6pm to check out a new note taking app and found my Prime to be HOT, like I left in in the car on a sunny day hot. Opened it up and it wouldn't come to life, held the on/off till it "shut off" then powered it back on. Battery life is 80% prime 14% dock. As requested my apps are as follows.

That's not alot..lol. that's a lil bit. I have most of what you have n have no battery issues. Ill look closer n cross refermce with mines to let you know what I don't have. I have wayyyy to many apps to list.. probably over 200.
Crazy how my prime is never affected negatively from these updates. Ill check n see.

If your TFP is hot it could be an indication that the processor is running something and causing heat.
Try an app like SystemPanel to monitor resource usage. You may have to get the paid version in order to track app resource usage history
https://market.android.com/details?id=nextapp.systempanel
Here is another good website to find other apps to monitor usage and find out what exactly is using your battery.
http://android.appstorm.net/roundup...nitor-usage-stats-and-tweak-system-utilities/
Have people experiencing the issues gotten the OTA or did they do the update via file where you system partition is formatted? Wonder if some file(s) didn't get updated properly via OTA but work fine via .zip update.

That's actually a pretty good question! Along with posting a list of apps...thinking a widget is trying to sync constantly?? Also, have you guys checked your app intervals...too many apps syncing at a low interval will kill your battery
I couldn't do the OTA, so I had to do the wipe and full install from .zip

Although I didn't suffer from issues here ln battery, after hearing about it, I went in and changed all intervals and cut off anything unnecessary. I especially made sure to raise email interval. As that's the thing that goes off the most. When it does it also causes the audio to go off constantly. So far I've been getting even better battery life than before in deep sleep. Actually very impressed how lil energy is used while in deep sleep. Before o took my screenshot and used tablet, it was in deep sleep for over 7-8hrs. And didn't budge from 100%. That's pretty impressive.

Yes! My wifi signal strength matches my Moto Xoom, I haven't had one reboot..GPS is weak but I honestly didn't buy the tab for that (Ipad users don't have it, but who cares its not a navigation device) . My 1080p movie playback is flawless, colors are rich. This is truly a sexy, powerful beast of a tablet! I'm sure that we all can agree on that...I'm sure that Asus will work out the kinks that some are having soon.
Everywhere I go, even Ipad owners love the way this Tablet looks, especially the screen display

What's up guy, still spreading those chrome rumors??
Yeah, I'm wondering if people have their update intervals low an the system is constantly trying to update apps in the background?? This would explain the warm/hot backs of the Primes by the batteries for some
The battery, sleep of death and random reboot IT IS CAUSE BY THE NEW OTA .13
i have factory restore 3 times no app install, same problem
i have push the OTA .13 MANUALLY TWICE same problem without installing app.
there's no way to get around this, only a new firmware fix or backflash to .11 only solution for us having problem with this new .13

Why are any users experiencing the range of issues this tablet is presenting while others are not? We have 3-5 major bugs that are sporadically scattered across a wide range of serial numbers. I believe its downright obvious that TFPs have a variation in hardware quality and/or quality control issues. It's fracking embarrassing. To say that only some people are having this battery issue just continues to follow the trend that has been ASUS the past 3 months.

Im guessing the reason for most of these problems is going from HC to ICS without a full wipe.
I have flashed thousands of roms on my devices since Windows Mobile 6.1 and when portion of people have issues they are told to check md5 sums and full wipe.
A little from column a and a little from column b perhaps.

I had no sleep of death problem until the update, and it's ridiculous how fast it's burning through battery now.

[Q] A2DP and Mobile Data problem with official ICS ROM

Hey guys! This is my first post on XDA, though I've been using it for quite a while.
I'm not exactly looking for answers/solutions, but rather sharing my problem and see if someone else is having them too.
I have a Latin American version of the I91000 (TTT). I recently upgraded to ICS using the official firmware from Samfirmware (UHLPE). At first everything looked great. The performance improvement was noticeable from the first bootup. Not only was it faster, but the intro video was far smoother and looked nicer. The general UI changes are very nice, and I did notice an improvement in battery life.
However, I've been experiencing a couple of glaring issues that really mared the experience enough to make me want to go back to Gingerbread, which I will probably do.
These are the problems:
1. The mobile data connection is very unstable. Sometimes it just doesn't load anything, and sometimes I lose the signal altogether. The 3G/H/H+ icon disappears and all. I never had this problem in GB during the 6 months I've had this phone.
2. The Bluetooth audio connection also has problems. It's now more unstable and susceptible to interference, and the lag is also much more noticeable now. It was about .5 seconds before, but now it's more than a full second.
But that's not the worst issue. The media remote control functions just stopped working altogether, namely, the |<< , >>| , >/|| buttons on my headset. I have a Nokia BH505 Bluetooth headset, and I didn't have any of these problems before either.
So that's it. I would like to know if someone else is experiencing one or both of these issues. I'll also check the Samfirmware forums to look for replies on the matter. Thank you for your feedback.

review of .28 update

Gentlemen and ladies,
I am opening this thread for constructive feedback of the TFP in real world use after the .28 update. Please stay on topic, HELPFUL and RESPECTFUL. By having an open an honest forum, we can help drive development and troubleshooting. Please be thoughtful and give it some time so you get a good sense of the changes.
My review will be here sometime this week and I will update regularly.
First two hours:
General feeling is that it's is considerably faster and smoother. Swype actually functions like it should with no lag, which is huge for me. Wifi signal is stronger, went to the opposite side of the house which is through a brick wall , a refrigerator, and another wall, about 30 feet in total. Used to get 1 bar, now a solid 2, total signal loss of 36% on wifi analytics app. I did get two ANRs on Facebook using dolphin, got it on stock browser too. had this scenario twice so far: 2ANRoD, two ANR of death, on stock browser with flash heavy objects, I'll get two popups and wait doesn't fix it and browser crashed. Still Pleased so far. More to come.
After first full day (6/14/2012):
The happiness with the update is starting to fade a bit as some old problems remain. I cold rebooted to see if there was any improvement, (not really)
Browsing: I have been experiencing a few ANRs messages consistently, they are way less than .21, but a few time an hour. I have noticed that google news website no longer produces the ANR on dolphin, where previously it did. Some sites that are flash work great, others not so much. FB webpage creates the ANR message everytime. I do continue to get some hangs or web pages that do not load completely, but generally the experience is faster loading. Stock browser continues to perform better than Dolphin, so I have to switch back and forth a bit which is annoying. .28 is still a step in the right direction by clearly not up to par. From Gary's post, I look forward to the next update to clear this up.
Productivity: opening pdf files is noticeably faster but still EXTREMELY slow by comparison to my sgsII. (For example, my sgsII opens a 3mb pdf of 180 pages in less than a second, whereas the TFP takes at least 10 seconds or longer to load a 3mb file of 10 pages.) I find this to be unacceptable as I bought the TFP specifically for work related tasks. using swype is still better, some glitchiness but far less.
WiFi: still better than .21 consistently in my home. Signal has been noticeably improved. I am definitely pleased there.
UI: Definitely there is a sense of more smoothness and snappiness most of the time. The TFP is pretty tempermental at times with increased lag, slow downs, or out and out unresponsiveness for 10s or greater. Sometimes its perfectly fine with no rhyme or reason. Definitely an annoyance when this occurs.
Battery life: I haven't notice a huge difference yet, but my use patterns are typically 2-3hrs so i don't stress the battery too much, i do have a vacation coming up so we'll see then. I do notice on the that when the dock is plugged in, it transfers battery to the tablet sooner. A few weeks ago i had a class for 9 hours, i noticed the tab would discharge to almost 50% before the dock kicked in. Now, the dock kicks in right away. after about 30 minutes i'm down to 80%, as it charged the tab about 15% then seemed to stop charging it for a while. looking at the battery meter i notice that it made a small sine wave, kicks in a little, then lets the tab discharge a bit. cool. ps- can i request a better battery graph? maybe some numbers and xy lines?
24 hour impression: This update is a step in the right direction as there are some improvements, but those improvements by an large are hard to quantify, other than the WiFi. I believe that the website loading is better most of the time. I am definitely disappointed by the ANRs and processing; my belief is that there should be improved processing over my sgsII dual core. I'll say this now because it came to mind over the last 24 hours: though less than .21, erratic performance and continued problems nearly 7 months out from release, with an update that took a long time to come out makes me suspicious of larger issues. I believe that there are solutions, and .28 shows that things can be better, I begin to wonder how much of a time investment will make in the tf201 over the long run to get it to where it should be. Over the weekend I am going to be using the dock and probably playing more games, so I will round out my review at the five day mark.
Wifi/BT on the new firmware I am actually seeing an improvement now. I used to get about 1-2mb when using my headphones out of 20M. Now I'm seeing about 3-5.. so they messed with something good thankfully. It seems Netflix doesn't buffer for me as long as I'm getting 1-2mb down so I'll take anything better than it was
Browser was not an issue with ANR for me before but seems fine as well after the update I set my plugins to ondemand in Advanced settings. No wait messages yet
give it time to settle in though. people can't say update is really bad and haven't even ran it for more than an hour yet..lol just saying.
constructive criticism always good. ill vote.
for me, running this update over 2 weeks now, its been running great. battery life improved alot. wifi performance better(for me). no browser ANR or crash in 2 weeks. most graphic heavy games playable now without crashing. overall faster feeling device. no random reboots. I like this build way better than. 21..lmfao
No ANR messages so far (although I've only had the update for a half an hour or so). On 0.21 I would get the wait popup on a regular basis while using the stock browser and other apps such as Engadget. Things seem snappier overall but I think that may be primarily due to the absence of the ANR popup.
Its actually a little weird now, I got so used to reaching towards the screen to cancel the ANR popup and now I don't have to do that at all, I can just keep my hands on the keyboard/trackpad.
Wifi Direct seems to work, lets me connect to my Nexus now, but after its connected though not sure what I can do with it. I looked in File Manager for it but not sure where it would be
Super happy thus far......

Did you reboot? Do that so the update 'settles'.

Troll much? I mean seriously this is your first post.
Been using the update for about 2 hours. Had one ANR while setting up face unlock, but since then it has been phenomenal. All games play now, couldn't play shadowgun, riptide or dead space before. Web browsing is incredibly smooth. Haven't done wifi tests yet, but I can tell that it has improved. Very happy with the update.
Face unlock is stupid....
Suprisingly wifi has improved for me too.
I tested right before the ota on a fresh boot and right after in the same spot
Averages Before (On a 18mbit up/down connection):
Download: 2mbps
Upload: 3mbps
After:
Download: 5mbps
Upload: 7mbps
I am VERY happy with this ota.
Download went well, but I could tell that there was major upgrade in firmware just when putting in my password. WiFi is much better, website pop open. The web moves faster then on mine laptop. I like it! Please do make sure to reboot or do a soft reboot before running with it, you will notice the difference.

Really glad you signed up, for that single post!
I just want to say that it's nice to see that Asus, in spite of the fact that they've since released the TF300 and will soon be releasing the Prime Infinity, are still working to improve the Transformer Prime, and haven't given up on it!
I, for one, appreciate their efforts!
My Prime has been very stable before the update, and I've had no complaints about wifi. I don't really use GPS on my Prime, using my car's GPS and my Thunderbolt much more often.
The one issue I have is the task manager will on occasion give me a "Task Manager has Quit" message, or something to that effect. Hopefully, that'll be resolved, but again, it only happens maybe once every three, four days.
I do like the face unlock feature, and the ability to show stats after locking the status bar at the bottom is a nice touch, if slightly unnecessary. My battery life has never been a problem, as I generally have over 40% in the evening, even after heavy use. I always charge it when I go to sleep.
I do hope that this update solves issues that I realize other people have been having.

yeah, Asus task manager has been buggy since the beginning. it looks like they trying to improve it though. or at least its looks..lol
Installed update, rebooted after the first boot, as mentioned a couple of times. Restored root with Rootkeeper. Had 2 ANR in the space of one minute while trying to load www.hotnews.ro (the desktop version). Chrome doesn't seem to do ANRs, although it also froze for 1-2 seconds a couple of times (and is also definitely more sluggish than the stock browser during page load).
Doing stuff during market updates is much less irritating now, seems to move better overall.
Will keep testing.

I just tried that site you mentioned. it loaded up fine for me with no problem. no ANR. cool looking news site. too bad I don't understand that language
Can we keep root with OTA root keeper?
Yes we can. Just restored root about two minutes ago.

I am seeing alot of ANRs with the facebook app. Specifically, it occurs more often and responses slower the further down I scroll; until it reaches a point where the app will no longer respond even after waiting a while. G+ on the other hand seems to be smoother.
I have gotten 1 ANR with chrome, but after waiting it started responding again.

wifi is better. Over all feel smoother. Tried stock browser still has ANR so I will still use Opera Mobile.
face unlock is neat...now i need to remember my pattern now in case face not working

[Q] Buggy software?

Good afternoon-
Great phone, but has anyone else had bad operating system luck? Seems like my phone is freezing and/or locking up daily, and needs to be re-booted. If it were windows I'd call it a BSOD incident. My S3 running Paranoid Android nightlies was even more stable than this.
Tim
I am not having problems like you report at all. The only lockups I had were during the brief period when I ran under ART, and they went away completely after I switched back to Dalvik. Note that under ART my G3 got really hot...
That is what I think is causing most of these phones troubles. I think they were designed in a way that is prone to overheating issues. I also think the designers tried their best to avoid overheating through throttling - which causes some performance degradation, and doesn't always work anyway.
Minor assembly differences could be causing major differences in how different G3s heat-load. This could explain why some owners who have reported lockup issues like yours have gotten much improvement by exchanging their phone, which is what I suggest you do if you can.

I agree with Trent. Seems some G3s just don't run well. Mine runs great. I have it rooted with xposed and have removed the bloat and no issues at all. I couldn't be happier.
I've even played some games for the first time on my smartphone including Asphalt 8 and I've played it for about an hour non stop the other night while I had time to kill and still no issues, the game played great, phone didn't heat up and get laggy.... Nothing. It just played.
Hard to say really what's causing the issues for some, could be a funky device, maybe a factory reset would help... Maybe people also should take a look at what apps and widgets they have running as well prior to thinking the phone is junk lol not saying that's you, just an idea

It's a pretty random problem, hasn't happened for a couple of days. I run a pretty lean system, not a lot of apps or widgets. Maybe getting rid of some bloat would help. Thanks all, nice to know it's not something everyone is going through. I'm enjoying the phone more than I thought I would, been on the S series since the first Galaxy Fascinate, so this was a bit of a leap. The combo of Knox and Touchwiz did me in...

I'm wondering if the accessibility service has anything to do with these random shutdowns. I've never turned on ART, but with several xposed mods, tweaksbox, and some debloating, my phone seemed stable for the first few weeks I owned it. One day I had a random reboot. It didn't happen again for a week or so, and then it happened once more. A few days later I noticed one of my tasker scripts (which reroutes gmail notification sounds through the headset iff the headset is connected) wasn't working. I checked the tasker accessibility service and it had turned itself off. After re-enabling it, my random shutdowns soon returned.
Anyone care to try ART with all accessibility services uninstalled? This would include talkback.
