couldn't find a proper answer for this so started a thread.
hope i'm not scolded.
i came across some pictures of custom roms for xperia x10i (using this phone now not the rom) but totally clueless how to do it. can someone post a step by step? my phone is currently not modified in any way at all.
first let me say these guys are gonna chew u out for posting this in the wrong thread lol
next. u need to give them some info about your phone before they( or we) can help you.
like firmware perhaps ?
in any means ur best bet at first is to look into the flashtool program to
root, jit, and if needed. dualtouch your phone.
from there u can also install xrecovery and then build understanding of the roms.
its really quite simple. read through a couple of the rom threads for the instructions to flash them. or even better. go on youtube once you find a rom u may want.
and a visual explanation should help more understanding and show you how easy it actually is.
good luck!
First, you would need to root your X10i device (if you are on the latest stock firmware, use the flashtool to root)
then install busybox FROM market
then install xRecovery (a detailed tutorial is included in this forum, also there's a youtube video to show you how to do it)
after you've done the preparation steps above, then download the rom you want to use, save it on your sd card
boot into xRecovery and choose "Install custom zip"
choose your rom and wait
Remark: some roms require full wipe
you need to first do some reading to build at least a little understanding of what and how flashing a rom is going to do.
then from there once u have at least the basics, the people here will be able to help you.
its in the best interest of your phone just to make sure u dont do something wrong.
but as i mentioned in the post above. watching things done in video would probably help allot. people tend to be better visual learners

To add/change almost everything you need more access than the usual and to do that you need root access.
What`s that?!
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Rooting_(Android_OS)
After that you just had to explore xda. Think? You got it...
With the tool on first link you can do all the tweaks you need to improve your phone. You just have to be sure of:
1. What do i have?!
2. What do i want?
Don´t ever install ANYTHING without read, read, read, read, read, read and make sure that what you want to install is the correct baseband, firmware, blá, blá, blá for you.

I did manage to root the phone. And now i am using SlimICS. Thanks for help.
Care to share how you managed to root your device?
I did a search here. And i found the right CF-ROOT for my device. I used ODIN to ROOT the device. Then i used the CWM to install SlimICS rom. I dont know how to explain more. But if you search in the forum you will find almost any answer. I hope it helped.

First thing search for cf-root for your device. On the cf-root page you will understand how to identify the correct file for you. Download the file. Use odin following details about how to use it. Get your phone in download state. Volume down+power button+home button. Odin will detect your phone. After cf-root its time to install a custom rom. I use slimics look at the forum for it and the way to install it on your phone. I hope this helped you.

Hi, I will be getting this phone today (i9100 unlocked) and have a couple of questions on how to proceed onwards. Any help would be greatly appreciated
1. What is the best firmware and rooted kernel for me to go on?
I want the absolute simpilest way to root my phone (total beginner) and I don't know what firmware I will have when I receive it, I also don't know if I should stay on a gingerbread firmware or go to ics? I also don't care if it is official or custom as long as I'm not sacraficing stability. If possible I would like a rom that is good for battery life. I also want to root my phone in the safest way. There are so many tutorials I didn't know where to start
2. What are some of the essential rooted apps and how do you install them? Through superuser or market?
3. What are the risks involved with a standard flashing/root because I'm getting my phone second hand I don't have warranty.
Thanks for all your help!
Edit: I just say a sticky saying not to ask what roms are the best so I'm sorry if I broke a rule. I just literally have no idea where to start, I've never even used android before. I've found so many methods of rooting and roms but most seem outdated. I would just like someone to point me in the right direction of the up to date way. Sorry if I'm really not supposed to ask!

Superuser is not used to install apps, you would either download them from the market or manually install the .apks

Rooting your phone would void the warranty anyway and bricking is probably your biggest risk.

Yes. There are dozens, if all you wanted me to do was provide a link to a more comprehensive guide, why don't you just learn how to use Google for yourself?

Believe me, I tried, but there are so many options, also, I've now decided to opt for a locked virgin i9100 bcause it was 50 bucks more for a new phone with the warranty, so what's the best way to unlock one? I think I recall a free app.
I have neo v mt11,on stock 4.0.4 , .431 ..
i rooted my phone before when it was on gingerbread..but i had to unroot it,but now i can't undestand how to root.
I've read alot of posts here, and decided to register so i could get straight answer.
I want to root my phone again,so what do i need? can anyone help me in couple of sentences do this..what flashtool do i need, what cwm,how to flash adreno drivers..and pls if you want to provide me with working link of flashtool and cwm for my phone.
tnx for reading..
First, welcome to XDA.
Secondly, after you spend some time here you will notice that this is not a spoon feed forum, you need to read, read and learn. And if you don't understand something, ask. Use the existing threads so information doesn't spread to much around.
Also you will notice sticky threads, which are not sticky just for fun, but rather for people to read them before they start asking questions.
One of those sticky thread even deals with your question. And I don't understand why you didn't read it.
Although one thread isn't sticky, so I will help you on that one: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1364509

No video, at least not that I know of.
And tutorial? I just said, look sticky thread, not sure what you need more.
If you don't understand something, ask, but there is no point in repeating over and over again. Ask specific things which you don't understand.
and about CWM link, don't worry(that post needs to be updated), I wouldn't give you that link if I'm not sure it's working
just use install-cwm1.cmd, it will give you CWM on whatever version you are.

About your last question, I never tried it so I can't help you much, someone else will I guess.
There are some methods to make swap on sdcard(which I don't suggest), maybe there are some script to have swap on system/data partition, not sure, also you can try supercharger(search for it)

yeah,i have and unzipped it.im on phone now but i think there was some meta folder and one more folder dk where should i place them
Yeah,ill check supercharger..
And last i dont want to leave you in doubt so one more question =D
Is it true that neo v does have only 335 ram available? Beacuse i checked review and there was written 512.so is there chance to get more free ram out of phone?
META folder, you don't need to look, it's there so that (among other things) CWM recovery knows what to do with that pack.
Where to place them? In same place as they are organized in that zip. second folder in that zip is system, and you have partition on your phone called system, now you just move them from one place to another, and respect the original path in zip. now you get the picture?
If I may advise, flash that zip in recovery and practice on something else.
RAM? well something goes for the system, rest is for usage, preinstalled apps and other stuff you do on your phone.
What exactly is in those 512-335, I'm not sure.
Tnx for all your help.just one more question can i install cwm with easy method or i nees to place files and do permission thing?

What is the filename of the file you are flashing to your phone?
Did flashtool reported any error or everything went well with flashing?

Why are you sending PM's, we have forum, there are smarter people here and will solve your problem faster if more of us discuss about it.
First you said that you have problems with keyboard, then you said you followed this instructions: http://theunlockr.com/2012/10/08/how-to-root-the-sony-ericsson-xperia-neo-mt15i/
On those instructions I only see how to root your phone, which includes flashing MT11i kernel.
Now hear this. If you said all this info before, you would get your solution by now.
Flashing MT11i kernel on MT15i gives that error. And I would have told you that if you gave all the info you have. And no need to go around the web for instructions, everything you need is here, if you had checked this (sticky) thread: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1678690 you would noticed that flashing only kernel cause errors.
For start flash your phone with correct fw, to solve your initial question, then go on next exhibitions
And please use forum, it will be faster

It's easy stuff mate. http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1973017
Hi guys!
First of all, I'm sorry if my english sounds wierd, not my main language.
I'm not here to ask witch rom or kernel are the best, just some help.
Recently I got an S2 - GT-I9100 with stock 4.1.2 room. I'm loving this phone, and I kinda like the samsung's rom even tough it consumes a lot of battery. I'm kinda curious about CyanogenMod and using moded kernels, but, I'm kinda afraid of messing up everything and brick my phone. Checked if I had the eemc firmware insane chip and I got it, so it makes me even more insecure of trying out new stuff.
Now for the questions:
I have this phone locked to a carrier, can I still flash it?
Can I flash it even if I have the eemc bug without any problems?
Can you guys recomend a really good newbie guide with each and every step to flash and install a new kernel? (I've looked around this website and the internet, but, those that I find kinda' dont explain everything in an easy way)
I've instaled clockworkmod on my phone, but it says it dosent suport it. why not?
Can I have a custom kernel with sammy's stock room?
thanks in advance.
1) Yes, you can flash custom firmware if your phone is carrier locked
2) Yes, you can flash your phone despite having a chip susceptible to the EMMC bug, which only affects phones running rooted stock 4.0.4 firmware
3) Do not attempt to flash anything to your phone until those guides make sense. Right now they look like they 'don't explain things in an easy way' because you obviously don't know a lot about Android, and in particular this phone. If you take the time to read/learn, the guides very quickly will become easy to understand & you'll know what you're doing. Flashing without knowing what you're doing leads to busted phones & dented wallets.
4) Without knowing exactly what you flashed, I have no idea. If you want to root your phone, there is a thread stickied near the top of Q&A that has all the info you need. It honestly doesn't get any simpler than that thread. If you don't find it easy to understand, as I said above, don't do anything to your phone until you do.
5) Yes, you can run a custom kernel with a stock rom

Well thanks for replying!
Yes, its better not to flash it before I fully understand what I'm doing. Would you recommend some guides that I can read, from your personal experience?
And I instaled cwm from google play. -____-"

If you flash Philz kernal for your software build its a safe kernal from the brick bug. If you download the zip file it will not only put the safe kernal on but also root it. Link below
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1877270
What exactly is the EMMC bug?
Sent from my GT-I9100 using XDA Premium 4 mobile app
If you're running rooted 4.0.4 stock & you do a factory reset, there's a fair chance you'll brick your phone. For the technical version, Google/XDA search is your friend.

Hi once more!
Can I ask you for some more help? I read the post about philz kernel, understood what I have to do and I want to thank you about trying to help me. I'm sorry to bother you once more, since I prefer to be certain.
Got the GT-I9100
I got stock 4.1.2
Baseband is I9100BULS1
Kernel version is 3.0.31-88955 [email protected] #3 SMP PREEMPT KST 2013
Compilation Number is JZO54K.I9100XWLSD
So I guess the one that I need to download and install is:
<< 17.04.2013 - PhilZ-cwm6 v4.93.6 with CWM 6.0.3.1 based recovery >>
XWLSD (bootloop fixed)
http://www.mediafire.com/file/4cb3mf...3.6-signed.zip
http://www.mediafire.com/file/q642zb...4.93.6.tar.md5
Also I got SuperSU already installed, this means I have to unistall it and do this or can I install this kernel anyway?

No worries, Im happy to help.
If you already have superuser just download the "tar" file and flash it with odin as thats just the kernal.
Your build is LSD, download that one. which is philz 5.06.1
Your LSD build is quite old, have a look on samfilmware for your region as im sure you should get atleast LSW. Theres also LSZ and MS1 builds out.
Sorry here is the one you need
http://www.mediafire.com/download/q642zb02je6l1bb/PhilZ-cwm6-XWLSD-OXX-4.93.6.tar.md5
Sorry for being such a pain in the ass.
Well tbh, this phone is second hand, and the guy that sold it to me, had a custom rom on it but I asked him to flash it back to stock at the time. it came with stock 2.4 or something, but I updated it trough kies to 4.1.2. I looked around samfilmware and I only saw the build I have right now. I dont think I can update it
So I only need to get odin3, put the cellphone in dm, flash the new tar and thats it?

Hi once more, and thanks for everything! Well, I managed to lose my fear of trying it and managed to flash it using the instructions from philz tread. Everything went all right!
I live in portugal, and my carrier is vodafone, I think that the build I have is the most updated one.
Really, thanks for helping me with this!

Your next step is flashing a custom rom Have a look at the link below. Battery life is amazing on this rom.

But the EMMC bug doesn't affect any S II phones with JB roms does it?
Correct (4.0.4 being ICS). Even if you have a susceptible chip, the firmware has to have the bug which causes the chip to be scrambled/corrupted, which means anything before 4.0.4 or anything after (or anything custom for that matter) poses no problems.

I'm at work right now, so I can only do it after work. So I just need to, follow the instructions on the NEAT ROM post to flash it? They dont say how to backup your things tough but I searched in this forum and found how to do it-. So I only need to use the cwm to back it up. Does it back up EFS folder too?
You have been so far a really helpful dude, thanks mate! Was kinda afraid of posting something here, but turns out there is really nice people around here!
Btw if the mods want I can just PM you for some help instead of posting here.
