[Q] How do I unroot my HTC Hero?! - Hero, G2 Touch Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

right guys here's the problem...
my friend rooted my Hero and its currently running 2.3 gingerbread. I want to unroot it but I am not able to connect to HTC Sync because it will only let me 'turn on USB storage' which is basically just mounting the SD Card and HTC Sync does not recognise that there is a phone connected. I want to unroot my device so I can get the original 2.1 update because I prefer Sense UI and its less laggy and more responsive I feel. If anyone needs to know my phone is running 2.3.2 and my mod version is: CyanogenMod-7-02032011-NIGHTLY-Hero
thanks

OPTION 1:
----------
well if you have android gingerbread and are rooted you should have a recovery partition too
anyways, you can access it by turning off your phone and holding the home button when you turn your device on..
if you want 2.1 update 1 you should download a rom (villain, sensehero or other) from the development section, wipe all (backup your current rom first and messages and anything you want to keep), flash zip (place the zip you downloaded on your sdcard)
and reboot
you should now have android 2.1 and still with the benefits of root
OPTION 2:
----------
download a RUU from htc website and follow the instructions
probably you will need to download the 1.5 and upgrade afterwards..
hope this helps a bit

I wanted to ask, if i want my original 2.1 rom back. What should i do? I dont want any custom roms. But when i put my original rom i want to keep root acces. And when i have a root acces on original rom how can i launch CPU overclock? i would be very thankful if you can write a step by step tutorial how to do my desired thing.
Thanks already!

well, the problem is.. if you want to overclock you need a kernel that is capable to do so and is mostly included in custom roms.. the other option is to install original rom, then root it again, install custom recovery, flash for example flykernel and install setcpu
short tut:
1. backup everything you want: ROM (nandroid in recovery), messages, apps, contacts, other..
2. Follow THIS tutorial to restore your orignal firmware (RUU file) (try the 2.1 version first, mine didn't work and had to upgrade from 1.5 firmware )
2a. If 1.5, then upgrade to 2.1 ( you'll get notification )
3. root your hero and install recovery with THIS
4. download flykernel and setcpu from dev section
5. flash flykernel 12a through recovery
6. install setcpu2.1.apk and enjoy
this is quite a detour to obtain what you want, it's just easier only to flash a custom 2.1 sense ROM because they have optimisations on everything, they are faster, pré rooted and you don't have to do all this above
so choose whatever you want, i would go for just installing custom sense

make sure you back up your cantacts if your signed in to your google account just make sure you have sync your cantact with your google account if you want to know how to do that go into your settings and go to account and sync then uncheak auto sync and then click your email and then click on contacts then it should sync your cointacts with your google account
frist go and download a sense rom here is a link to
http://www.villainrom.co.uk/vBwiki/index.php/VillainROM_12_Series
after that finishes downloading put it on the root of the sdcard which means it is not in any folders
next turn off your phone and hold the power and home buttons at the same time then it will reboot into recovery mode and then wipe everything after wiping everthing (use the tackball to move) and then go to install zip from sdcard and then choose zip from sdcard and choose the rom you download earlier
after that finishes hit the back buttom and choose reboot system now and this boot should take aroud 5-10 minutes if you get boot loops pull your battery out and wipe it again you should not get boot loops if you wiped it.
next go though the setup wizard then go here http://www.htc.com/www/SupportViewNews.aspx?dl_id=1073&news_id=856 and download htc sync
next go here
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=559622
and download the ruu file i thick they are 1.5
next set up htc sync
then click on ruu file you download and follow the instructions and then you will be unrooted and back to stock
here are some 2.1 ruu files http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=720394 but there is not one for the uk if you brought your phone from the uk.

Here is the easiest way to root because you only have to click the root button to toot and the unroot button to unroot follow these instructions on this website and make sure that you have the 2.1 update here is the link
http://theunlockr.com/2010/09/27/how-to-root-the-htc-hero-androot-method/
This is how I root my GSM hero
If you want to download rom you need to download rom manager from the market and then flash a recovery image

HTC Hero GSM Unroot
Dear all,
I am a newbie and I would really want some help to unroot my HTC Hero GSM (With Android 2.3 using Clockword Recovery). I tried the above suggestions yet I was unable to find a Rom. I also tried HTC Sync yet it does not work with Android 2.3 Gingerbread. I used Flash ClockwordMod Recovery. It will be really nice of you if you could post a tutorial with links attached.
Thank you.

For htc sync to work you need HTC a HTC sense rom

make sure you back up your cantacts if your signed in to your google account just make sure you have sync your cantact with your google account if you want to know how to do that go into your settings and go to account and sync then uncheak auto sync and then click your email and then click on contacts then it should sync your contacts with your google account

next go here
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=559622
and download the ruu file i thick they are 1.5
next set up htc sync I think it is in a zip file so you have extract it you just have to right click and find the extract opinion if or you can use this program http://www.7-zip.org/ it is called 7 zip right click on the HTC sync zip and choose the opinion 7zip then extract
then click on ruu file you download and follow the instructions and then you will be unrooted and back to stock
here are some 2.1 ruu files http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=720394 but there is not one for the uk if you brought your phone from the uk.
Hope thus helps

Anyone care to help out a n00biE?

So, Where do I begin? I, like everyone else was upset about not getting ota 2.2 for the fascinate. So i decided to go through the whole rooting thing and used odin to get a sc 2.2 rom, But it wasn't running so smoothly, so I tried to put a new rom on using rom manager...Now heres the problem, I did something wrong in recovery manager and now I can boot the phone up, into my 2.2 rom still, but I cant do anything because it repeatedly comes up with the messages that you get when a program crashes(Force close button)
So basically I need a way to get back to any working ROM (stock is fine too), which doesn't need access to the phone os. I can provide any other details necessary to fix he problem.
Please help me..
I will donate to whoever can get me working again!

Follow that link and do some reading there. Basically, it takes you through the process of using a program called Odin to completely flash a new, working ROM. It also has the most recent release of the SuperClean ROM which can also be found in the Fascinate Development section here.

Well, it seems that you know how to use Odin (download mode, use the PDA button), what you probably didn't know was NOT to use ROM manager. It only works with the newest CWM, which does not work on our phones. And that doesn't matter b/c all of the roms for our phones are made to work with CWM Red (2.x, not 3.x).
So after you flash the new ROM (and the new modem) using ODIN, you can then select different kernels that you may want to use with that rom.
I've been using ROM manager pretty successfully. I just simply haven't upgraded CWM to 3.x

Personally ide stay away from rom manager. ive heard nothing but bad things.. but to fix your mess ull need to odin like stated above.. but u dont have to flash the whole rom on odin.. just find a whole rom/radio/kernal package, use odin to flash clockwork 2.5 and you should b able to book into clockwork at that point and just flast the rom following the directions in the noob post under the dev section.. good luck
Thanks for the help guys! I originally got into this mess by trying to flash to JT1134's AOSP, uhmm here
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=919864
and i read on that post (I think) that you cant use odin for that. Which makes sense as it isnt the same ".tar.md5" that my 2.2 sc rom was...How would I go about doing this, without rom manager?
Easiest way I can think of would be to use Odin for one of the SuperClean ROM's just to get your phone working as easy as possible.
Then, once it's functioning again, download the ROM and kernel zips(if you haven't already) and copy the zip file for the AOSP ROM you want along with the kernel. You can copy them to the root of the sdcard so they would be easiest to find in the coming steps. Also, remember the names so you can find them later.
Then pull up the shut down menu on the phone(by holding the power button) and choose the recovery option.
You should be in Clockword Mod Recovery at this point. You'll want to clear out the SuperClean ROM, so run through both the "wipe data" and "wipe cache" options in the menu. Run through those twice just for good measure.
Now scroll down and select install zip from sd card.
Next, select choose zip to install.
Find the zip file for the ROM, and select it. Then select the only Yes option on the list.
Repeat the last step for the kernel's zip file.
Press menu to get back to the main menu, and select reboot system now.
Wait out the reboot(it may take SEVERAL minutes this first time).
Enjoy AOSP!

I dont have that option when i hold the power button, i usually get into recovery through rom manager...This shouldn't make a difference right?
I have tried that when i do it, it starts to run the code and Aborts. The rull message is
"Amend scripting (update-script) is no longer supported.
Amend scripting was deprecated by google in Android 1.5.
It was necessary to remove it when upgrading to the ClockworkMod 3.0 Gingerbread based recovery. Please switch to Edify scripting (updater-script and update-binary) to create working update zip packages.
Installation aborted"
This probably spells out exactly what my problem is.....but i dont understand it...lol
I think I see the issue. Do you have CWM 3.x on your phone? I don't believe that works with the Fascinate. Head to this link:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=942021
And download the .tar file in the first post and use Odin to flash the correct recovery. Then, after that, hold the power button and both volume buttons(up and down) which will force you into the new recovery mode, which should be red. From there, you should be able to go forward with the flashing of your AOSP ROM and kernel.
Worked perfectly!!! This rom is Stellar!
Fantastic! I'm so glad you're back up and running!

[Q] HTC Hero dead

I am new to all this Android stuff and I am looking for help.
What I have done:
1. I had HTC Hero with official 2.1 never rooted.
2. I did a hard reset (I guess it failed because it went really fast (max 5 sec.) and after that I was not able to boot the phone).
3. I looked for help and found this tutorial.
1. Take out your memory card. FORMAT TO FAT32!!!
2. Download the RUU 2.73.405.5 from HTC support homepage
3. Run the installation.
4. When it fails to find your phone DON'T EXIT!!!
5. If you are using Windows 7 go in to c:\Users\yourusername\AppData\Local\Temp
6. Search for ROM.zip
7. Move to desktop
8. Rename to HEROIMG.zip
9. Transfer to your newly formated memory card
10. Put memory card into phone
11. Start phone holding volume down pressed.
12. It will now check zip fil and then ask if you want to install.
13. homekey for YES
14. After installing you have 1.5 again and can safely upgrade to 2.1 OTA

4. Did everything like said there but I am having problems in the HBOOT. I have tried to restore three times and every time it freezes at the "Radio_V2 - Updating". (Screenshot attached)
What could I do to get my phone back to normal (or maybe rooted)??
Thank You for support!!
Are you sure your phone isn't rooted? I know when I was trying to update my phone before I knew it was rooted, I tried to install the standard firmware and failed everytime. I used a version someone made for rooted phones and it worked fine after that. Maybe you can try that!
My phone had been rooted before I even bought it, i bought it in Singapore.
It could not be rooted. I bought it in the official LMT store here in Riga and I have never tried to root it. Always the official stuff.
Anyway I could try to instal version for rooted phone. Can anyone give me a link to one because I do not have any idea where could I find one.
All those errors are major problems, are you sure the zip file is complete? i.e it is the size it should be. Also its a major no-no to remove the battery or reboot the phone while it is flashing the radio.img , this can/will cause bricks.
Sent from my HTC Hero using XDA App
Ok. I checked the size of ROM file and it is all fine.
What should I do? I am 100% sure the phone has never been rooted or somehow hacked in any other way.
Please, does anyone have any suggestions?
Like I said before if you pulled the battery while it was flashing a radio you may have pricked your phone, but why not try downloading the ruu from HTC and running it on your computer.

[Q] flash stock rom Need some urgent help!!!

Hi guys,
Sorry I Need some urgent help!!! I've only been dabbling in roms for a short time, I have a rooted hero g2 running tasty ginger 2.3.2 which I'm selling in the morning... I want to restore stock rom with sense or at very least flash a extremely stable rom with sense as I'm selling it to a middle age woman who doesn't know jack about roms, Could really use some help, either a guide to install stock or suggestions for stable sense rom please!!! Thanks!!!
I would say that you should use villain rom sense rom this one http://www.villainrom.co.uk/forum/c...-MAR-VillainROM-v13.0-Release-WWE-Android-2.1
If you want to flash stock you have to have a sense rom then download htc sync from here http://www.htc.com/www/SupportViewNews.aspx?dl_id=1073&news_id=918 the download link is at the bottom of the page
next you download the ruu file from here http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=559622
next you want to run htc sync and set it up then open it after you done that you should connect your phone to your pc and make sure it is connect to htc sync after plugging it in to your pc
then you should run the ruu file and go though the all the steps and you should be back with the stock rom
you can also try running the ruu file when you are in fastboot mode if it is not working when it is powered to get into fastboot mode you have power down the phone and press power and back button at the same time then plug in the usb and run the ruu file that
i did it when it was in fastboot mode so you might want to try it in fastboot mode
if they don't work try this http://rootmydroid.co.uk/guides/general/howto-unrootdowngrade-your-htc-phone/
you have to create a goldcard for this to work http://theunlockr.com/2009/10/18/how-to-downgrade-your-htc-hero-so-it-can-be-rooted/ only do step 1-18 or if that did not work try this http://www.roothtchero.co.uk/goldcard-2 in this guild only follow step 1-10
Hey man, you can just flash your Hero to its Stock status with RUU.
Here's the URL (sorry I can't post a URL yet, copy&paste it):
shipped-roms.com/shipped/Hero/
Find a version (for your phone's carrier or your country), download it and flash - your phone will be returned to a unrooted official version.

Htc one v help needed

could anyone help me fix my phone? my phone is already rooted, i use rom manager and then i load the .zip file which makes reading sd card faster from root toolbox and i click on the file then everything freeze even then i turn off and i turn it back on, now it freeze forever, so could anybody help me? please im begging you
Dont worry my friend
If u cannot get back into system to delete the file you may try a hard reset to bring ur phone back into life
It will whype all ur data but ur phone probably should work again
you may try the whipe data/cash in recovery mode
if this doesnt work try the following:
http://www.htc.com/help/in/howto_iframe.aspx?id=167228&type=1&p_id=439
If this doenst work let me know and i will see if i can help u
but dont worry anyway ur phone´s not bricked or something
u still have the chance to reflash the firmware
i tried going into factory setting already but my phone still wont stop freeze, is it because i use a custom rom when i havent install clockwork mod? also when the htc logo come when turning on passes i get a black screenand i cant do anything at all except reboot
Custom ROM without clockworkmod? The first thing ROM manager would have done is to prompt you to install it. How did you install a custom ROM without a recovery? What happens when you go into recovery from bootloader? (Press and hold volume down while turning on the phone, then use volume keys to navigate to 'recovery' and press power to select)
Sent from my Desire HD using xda premium
i already did that, but nothing happens except some picture of a phone downloading something and than fail. i was just clicking on the .zip file then everything freeze then i had to reboot but thats when the htc logo pass then a black screen come then everything freeze
Since you said you're rooted, I presume you've already unlocked your bootloader via www.htcdev.com.
Have you tried out these?
[TOOL] HTC One V All-In-One Toolkit V1.1 [6-11-2012] [PERM ROOT] [Noob-Proof]
[Recovery]CWM v5 Touch Recovery for HTC One V[Build 6]
Both of these threads are from the One V Development forum. You can flash CWM Touch recovery via either of them. Once you have recovery then you can wipe all your partitions, install a new custom ROM and do anything. Don't panic about the state of your phone and rush through. Follow the instructions step by step. These kind of problems are common and fixable. Good luck.
In the worst case that none of the above work out for you, you can always return to stock unrooted HTC firmware by connecting your phone to computer and running an official HTC RUU (ROM Update Utility). They are .exe files so you'll need Windows. Here's the link.
Primo (HTC One V) Shipped ROM Collection
Find and download the right RUU for your phone depending on your region. For example, I'm in India, so my RUU would be the Asia one. For India and the whole of Asia. Similarly there are ones for Europe, China & an exclusive one for phones on Sprint networks worldwide. WWE = World Wide Edition. There are so many Europe ones because they're all different version numbers so if you're confused, the latest is RUU_PRIMO_U_ICS_40A_HTC_Europe_2.08.401.2 so run that.
Tip -> You would have got much more help and much quicker too if you had posted this in the HTC One V General or Q&A forum (see link below). Also don't forget to hit thanks for the posters of those threads if they helped you.

HELPPLEASE READ ALL THIS, BELOW, BEFORE TRYING STEP 1

HBOOT
after a major error recently I' found that for some reason I was struggling to even dual/tri/quad boot, after reverting to stock ics and updating my hboot to 1.49.0053 , I managed to find a patch to revert my hboot back to its original 1.49.0007 , il attach below, I recommend everyone flash this GO USE THE GUIDE HERE , all you do is place on root of your sd card (GSM USERS ONLY AS FAR IS I'M AWARE (CDMA TESTING APPRECIATED)), Then boot into bootloader and select yes when it reads the PG86IMG, I found after going back to this hboot , bootmanager was then able to edit boot.IMG correctly again
(added ALL CID'S to the pg86img.zip android text folder)
WILL WORK FOR EVERYONE
AROMA ROMS / KERNELS
Some people are having issues with certain roms/aroma scripted roms, the best way around it is to set up all roms on phone Rom slot (main) then back up, restore your original Rom to main, boot it, then in boot manager . Restore nands of other set up roms to other slots
SWITCHING ROMS
Ensure all roms you want to boot into and out of, are Gapps (google apps) installed, ensure you have set up phone in bootmanager while booted to your phone Rom, and that you have opened boot manager in your slot rom(s) at least once so bootmanager app can download files needed and to write folders to sd
BOOT IMG
If you find that your bootmanager can't create boot.IMG (not edit), navigate to the bootmanager folder on your sd, find the boot.img file in the slot your trying to install on, delete it, then restart bootmanager , and it should create it without problems,
IF NOT,
Try putting boot.img in the rom1/rom2/whateverslot you are using n the bootmanager folder on the sd card, then try just installing a different kernel to overwrite it, so it fixes it. thanks to meangrenie or making this common knowledge
if you ever run into problems, pull the battery, boot to hboot, select recovery, and flash the update.zip inside the phoneRom directory. It writes your backed up boot image. thanks too $MyName for making this common knowledge
BUGS
(currently)
When booted to a jellybean Rom there is a charging/battery reading issue and in some cases data drop/connection problems

ok i'm maybe having a slow moment. are there any stock unrooted rom zips that are compatible with this app.
because i couldn't find any stock unrooted rom zips.
or is it possible to dowload an ruu exe, and rename it to ruu zip
gingerbread preferred
No, the app requires root to work.
So, if you install any unrooted Rom in a slot , you will not be able to boot back to phone Rom. Your phone Rom needs to be rooted to install any other Rom on a slot.

Sounds great! i will surely try this out.
No more endless recovery circles like wipe cache/dalvik, install from zip blah blah restore etc.
Could be very practical.
Is it reliable once its up and runnig?

Are you sure your second Rom is a complete version ? Bootable normally as a main Rom ? If it is. Restore from your most recent back up and try again, bit give your dalvik cache a wipe , once you have restored your back up and before trying again
flash the zip located in bootmanager/phonerom....in recovery and you should be able to boot your phone Rom just fine.
Thanks for the help guys.
It works
Thanks 4 the guide!
Works as it is declared. I installed the free app and installed a ROM to slot1.
Unfortunately the app needs constant internet connection? Well i had a situation where the installed rom had a Wi-fi issue and I coludn't start the app and boot back to my phone ROM. That's a bit of a shortcoming. Or it may be that I don't see all the issues straight (why there has to be an internet connection at all for the app to do its thing)
One more thing... the installed ROM had taken 2GB of space on my SDCARD. And a 4ext recovery backup takes up to 1GB max.

If you read the guide again, I tell you to nand back up at each step, and give information on how to keep both roms safe and working and if neccessary, delete a back up before making a new ,one also I use a 32gb sd, and I use 4 ext, latest, and I've never had a problem backing up, its also such a big back up, because it backs up, both roms , every back up. Try re reading the guide and starting again with your daily Rom
if you are connected to internet/wifi it will take time to start , if you turn them off, it will start quickly....

Just to be clear, is this simply a guide to set up Boot Manager or will this setup give me a bona fide dual booting machine?
