need help rooting my hero

Hey everyone,
I followed all the instructions to root my hero but I'm stuck at this step from theunlockr.com site:
Open the FlashRec program and click on Backup Recovery Image and wait for it to finish.
I'm not able to backup recovery image... I tried different flashrec files but I always have the same error...I'm not able to backup
Can anyone help me find an alternative way to get root?
Oh and I got a hero130 from TELUS and its a gsm phone and the firmware version is 2.73.661.46
i'm actually trying the goldcard version so we'll see what happens
The goldcard process is not optional, it must be done.
The ROM that comes on the Telus Hero is not rootable, HTC had patched our exploit by the time Telus released their Hero. You must use the goldcard method to downgrade your phone's ROM, and only then can you use Flashrec.
yeahhhhhh i got root and modaco 3.1

[Released] Official 2.2.1 froyo for myTouch 3g Slide

http://www.htc.com/us/support/t-mobile-mytouch-3g-slide/downloads/
I got this today in a sms from t-mobile... I guess they did not give up after all.
Would it be safe to install this without losing root or S-OFF?
You will lose root and S-OFF after flashing the official froyo. You can still re-root your phone, but you will lose S-OFF permanently.
So their is no way to get s-off again when you do the official update?
Well yes u can re root but that's the prob the oknly to do it not is the old hard way make a gold card abd if u don't have a sd or micro sd reader well u can't root so yea don't update unless u want to work for reroot
and yeah, as far as now, nobody has cracked the method to obtain S-OFF. so until then you'll be stuck with S-ON.
the new HBOOT that comes with Fro-Yo cannot be engineered to be S-OFF (for both Legend and Slide). You can root again but you need to make a goldcard (which requires a microsd card reader)
So don't do the official update, you will gain nothing at all. Just flash the new radio (been on the forum for a while now) and flash the rooted version of the official update (or any other ROM since the stock T-Mobile version sucks a lot)
Yes well ty uber but already stated 2 post up lol
This is pretty old news lol
Sent from my GT-I9000 using XDA Premium App
To install the update, do we just plug our phones in (with dev enabled) then run the exe file?
I'm looking to update my friend's phone and they aren't savvy enough to put root access to good use and rather keep things simple and stock.

Second I try z4root. I install this apps and run permanent root option and it do something , then restart but my gratia is still dont have root.
Third I USE SuperOneClickv1.9.1 AND START root...Error:Failed
Fourth i use UniversalAndroot..and Error
Is it posible to root my phone and please someone halp me to do that.
Please help me...
I looks like you are facing the same issue I am.
The new ROM released for the Aria has a much more secure HBOOT version, and a hardware device called an XTC clip is required for setting S-OFF which is the first step required to root the phone.
If you have a look through the thread I have here it covers what is required.

note I am making life a bit more difficult because I don’t want to just deploy a pre cooked ROM, but the rest is there.

yes you need to have your phone unlocked and rooted with an XTC clip
Hi everybody,
I also have the HTC Gratia and want to root it and install custom ROMs.
So what do I ask the guys at the store to do? To turn S-Off and that's it?
After security is off can I use tools like unrevoked to root my phone or do they have to use the XTC Clip for that as well?
So again, please correct me if I'm wrong. To install another ROM i need to:
1.) Go to place that has an XTC Clip and let them turn S-Off
2.) Use a tool like unrevoked to get root
3.) Install a ROM using Clockwerk ROM Manaer for example.
Thanks in advance

Once you gain S-OFF, you can flash ClockworkMod custom recovery. Check out this post and it's associated discussion thread on the steps to follow once you gain S-OFF.

Question on rooting Evo 3D

I have hboot 1.53.., s-on and also unlocked bootloader, also it is bought in full (not contract) therefore it is not associated with any phone network . I want root access without changing the official firmware (Official HTC android ICS 4.0). I don't mind wiping everything. My question is can I have root access on the official firmware, and exactly (if I can) how to do it. Other guides seem really full on, because I am a noob!

there is s-on root in here. if you don't want to change official ics nobody can force you to do it.

[Q] Re-Rooting HTC One S

So, I was recently considering re-rooting my phone again, as I tried to re-lock the carrier and un-root the phone so I was able to update to Jellybean. Unfortunately, that didn't work, so I am stuck with the re-locked bootloader.
My phone is the HTC One S (Android 4.0.4, Sense 4.1).
Is there any way to re-unlock the bootloader without wiping my phone again? Or is there a simple way I can do this from my phone? I understand how to root my phone, but I don't know if my bootloader is a problem or not, or what I have to do about it.
Thanks
