Question on rooting Evo 3D - HTC EVO 3D

I have hboot 1.53.., s-on and also unlocked bootloader, also it is bought in full (not contract) therefore it is not associated with any phone network . I want root access without changing the official firmware (Official HTC android ICS 4.0). I don't mind wiping everything. My question is can I have root access on the official firmware, and exactly (if I can) how to do it. Other guides seem really full on, because I am a noob!

there is s-on root in here. if you don't want to change official ics nobody can force you to do it.

[Q] My Flyer (rooted?)

I bought my flyer from the official HTC store in my country.
I have found 2 strange applications already installed: Superuser and a Chinese application (orange shortcut with the letter "G")
+ I had the ability to make phone calls (without applying any hack)
Now I would like to know if all these facts are normal? or my flyer is rooted by the seller?
abnormal and I would question that it was an official store. To tell if you are rooted just download any app like titanium back that requires root permission. If it allows it than you are rooted
OK, I booted into the HBOOT and I have found my device is S-OFF!!!
Is it legal that an official HTC store sell a flyer with S-OFF and rooted?
Another question concerning HC: should I wait until i receive the official update? or I will never get the official update (so I have to update my phone my self?)
Thanks
you should be able to roll back to stock not rooted with s on by following some threads in development but since you are already rooted and s off it is easier to just go ahead and flash honeycomb via method in development in my opinion
as to the legality of selling you a piece of equiptment that has voided its own waranty, I woudl say it is illegal for sure, but how does one prove you did not root and s off yoruself

can we return to stock?

OK if I root this thing and install custom recovery, from my understanding we cant completely return it to stock, yet is that correct. We would need the RUU file to achieve this and restore the original recovery and we don't have it yet from what I can find or at least for the ATT version. There again if if root it and install CWM I can backup the stock rom and restore it if something happens this should also restore the stock kernel basically what are my chances of bricking this thing. Forgive me I haven't flashed kernels or roms since the original galaxy tab and Im a little rusty
NO!! You cannot return to stock if your device is from ATT caus official RUU for ATT not available anywhere on the net. Thats my problem too If you backup your rom with CWM you can only backup the system and data partition so recovery or any other is cant revert to original. If Jetstream gets S-OFF we can flash the rogers official RUU when something goes wrong and need to go back to stock. So I dont know why dont exist an official ATT RUU anywhere. Lot of people need it to go back to stock. I personally need to S-OFF to update my rom to Rogers caus ATT dont allow to update the Jetstream rom in the near future. ATT sucks to lock the ability of this device, updates, S-ON. They kill this device with this high security, no one buy this with this. People buy Samsung Tab or iPAD 2 rather then Jetstream caus iPad has Jailbreak and Samsung also has the ability to root, unlock bootloader and flash any rom you like easily. So hope developers can S-OFF the Jetstream.
From my understanding the s security goes off when you unlock the bootloader which can be done at htc developers. So with s off I can return to the Rodgers version and restore the stock recovery
Bootloader unlock and (Security Flag) S-OFF/S-ON is different thing. New HTC-s secured with 5 different Locks 1. Bootloader Lock 2. Security Flag 3. eMMC or Nand Lock 4. CID or Provider Lock 5. SIM Lock
When you unlock your bootloader, Security flag remains locked, S-ON. That is mine problem too.
Hope somebody can make the S-OFF. I can donate 25$ for it.

Update Flyer with Revolutionary S-OFF (different problems)

When i bought my HTC Flyer last Year i made it S-OFF immediately using Revolutionary.
After a couple of months, HTC asked me to update my device to a newer firmware.
So i backed up all my data and tried it.
When i stared the device, a warning droid appeared on the screen.
So i restored my data and still everything works fine.
But i a still on 2.3.3 and i really want to use the newest Version working with Revolutionary.
So here are my problems:
1. I don't know how to remove Revolutionary
2. To install (or update) Revolutionary, i need another hboot version
(mine is 6.10.1002 and i need 1.10.0000 or 1.11.0003)
So how to update my hboot ?
3. What possibilities i got, concerning the update of my device ?
4. I searched for my specific RRU to flash my device but i could't find or identify it?
Which one should i download ?
Information about my Flyer
I have the Wifi-Editon from a local store in germany, so i have no specific Branding from Vodafone or Tmobile.
Its current Firmware Version is 2.3.3
Hboot is 6.10.1002
I rooted it with Revolutionary
I would be really amused if you would pay some attention to my thread and try to help me
if you want HC follow this thread
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1358758
Thank you very much
This really helped me
BUT
After the installation, i tried to use a backup from Revolutionary and now my screen is stuck on the htc sign when it starts.
(Unfortunately i havent made a backup after the installation of HC )
please close this thread
I will make a new one, showing my problem in the Title

They don't close threads here, just because the OP no longer has a use for it. They are left open, in case other people want to comment, or for the benefir of people that may encounter a similar issue.
For future reference, don't EVER EVER EVER install an official OTA update to an S-Off/rooted Android device. At a minimum, the update won't work. At the worst, the update may remove root (may be difficult or impossible to re-root), or you might be stuck unable to boot. Pre-rooted versions of updates usually end up getting posted in the Development subforum (like the one posted in a previous response), and often very quickly after the official OTAs go out. THOSE are safe to flash.

Rooting Evo 3D - Android 4.0 (Changed mainboard)

Hello guys, im stuggling around with my Evo-3D since a few days now, so i decided to register myself here.
Situation is as follows:
- I got an HTC Evo 3D GSM (germany)
- I used OTA-update to update to Android 4.0
- A while ago my Phone was defect, so the Mainboard got replaced.
- I tried unlocking with htcdev - but it doesnt accepts the keys (using google i found out its a problem with repaired mainboards)
- This phone was never rooted, has no cusotm bootloader, whatever
- My hboot is says its 1.5x
Because i own a Asus Transformer 300, which was rooted very easy without the need of doing S-off or whatever, i thought it should be possible with my evo 3d too. But i cant find "any" information which helps me here.
The only reason i want to root my device, is to delete a lot of the preinstalled apps, like games which i never wanted to have.
So i need the following:
a) a guide to root or maybe just temp root so i can get rid of this stuff, whithout anything else.
b) if thats not possible, i need a way to unlock it without htcdev. and then root it, remove stuff, and lock it again.
Thanks for any help
To root the phone you can just follow zedomaxes thread on how to root the phone very good tutorial and if u cant unlock with htcdev there is no other way to lock well at least for cdma maybe gsm may have another way check out the dev forums
Hit the thanks button if i helped
If your Evo 3D is Locked and S-ON, the only way to unlock it is probably using this guide.

[Q] Going to upgrade from an S4 to the M8, and I'd like to know

if HTC allows downgrading the bootloader so I can install a custom rom after I make the mistake of taking an OTA update from ATT. With the S4 this wasn't possible. but since this is my first android phone, I was wondering if it was Samsung trying to keep the device "secure" or ATT forcing these companies to keep their bootloaders locked.

Once you unlock the boot loader no update can relock it. HTC offers a lot more freedom than samsung, but at the price of no warranty. So if you unlock it and shatter your screen, don't be upset like other people when htc will not warranty it. As long as you have a custom recovery, your phone cannot even physically take an ota update so nothing to worry about either way.
The Magnuson–Moss Warranty Act is in place for us consumers for this reason. The company has to prove that any modification you did, is the cause of the trouble. So if you unlock your bootloader, root, etc, then crack your screen, as the poster above mentioned, the company can not void your warranty since what you did has nothing to do with cracking your screen.
This was huge for me when I modified my car and I found this here on XDA after doing more searching
http://www.xda-developers.com/xda-tv-2/your-warranty-is-not-void-xda-tv/
Oh and yeah,,if you are outside the US, it wont work lol

That depends on what you mean by "allow". You cannot downgrade the bootloader by any "official" means. You will fail version check when you try to install, as you can "normally" only flash a equal or great version number hboot.
But if you are s-off, version check is bypassed, and any hboot version can be flashed.
Similar to a previous response, my advice would be to unlock the bootloader (required if you want to flash custom ROMs anyway) and S-off the phone soon after you get it. Neither of those can be changed by any OTA.
Also, accepting OTA is not recommended on a modded phone, anyway. Whatever came in the update will usually get posted in a stock rooted form in the Development forum, and/or incorporated into custom ROMs, often within days of the OTA rolling out. And OTA will not install on a modded phone (stock recovery needs to be present). OTAs also may plug existing s-off or other exploit; preventing you from doing them if you haven't already (but as mentioned, can't make the phone s-on again). Moral of the story, I strongly recommend against OTA on any modded phone.
Some of these terms/concepts are HTC specific, so may be a bit confusing for you. I would suggest reading up on these forums, if you aren't familiar with s-off, HTC's bootloader unlock process, etc.
