I carried this over to my shift from my heroc. Figured I'd share the apk with everybody here. It's just a bare bones overclock app.

I like the updated version cause it gives updated stats on cpu usage and it let's you know what clock speed you're running currently and yada yada lol..I really like this app..just the whole minimal thing is enough ya knw..also the updated one will not set clockspeed if your phone reboots from too high over clocking unless you force it to..

You're not the only one. I use a low screen off profile and get 35-40 hours on a single charge (combined with using a data toggle widget)

I hear you. I used to be a big fan of screen-off profiles, but, at least on the Hero CDMA, the smartass governor kept me from ever needing one again.
On the Shift, however, I could probably use one until the kernels come farther along.
Then maybe I'm the only one using this? I like it over setcpu..profiles are cool but I keep it simple

Is anyone's processor actually running at a high speed when the screen is off? I don't think screen off profiles are needed. I think they use more battery than saved.

Yep, that's the main reason for me too. My screen off is set from 286 to 768.
My normal usage is 368 to 1.4
I plug in at night with about 50% battery life at night.

i have a problem don't know if it's related to my custom kernel i use inteks v15 , my neo some times randomly sets it's cpu maximum frequancy to as little as 122mhz only !!
max freq = 122mhz
min freq = 122mhz
and it happens randomly i mean RANDOM !! the device just becomes so laggy even the simplest stuff become laggy and i have to reset the maximum allowed cpu frequancy again to 1401mhz using sexperia to make the device act normal again !
hope some one can clear this up for me......

Underclocking depends on kernel, not ROM?
I've tried ICS. I have used it for a couple of months. But I then reverted to GB. It's faster, lighter, less resource hungry, no lags etc.
It's a matter of personal preference I think.
Try to choose a light ROM. With only a few performance scripts/enhancements, no excess/unnecessary apps. Real ICS as good as it is, is pretty heavy in my opinion.
~652 MHz ~ 247 MHz

Doesn't make no sense to overclock to 1184MHz.....
And 134MHz actually drains more power then 249MHz. I really wish I could give you a link to see for yourself, but I read that some time ago.
134MHz and 249MHz run on the same voltage. But 249MHz gets any job done faster then 134MHz, thus using much less CPU time. And you won't have any stuttering when playing music while screen's off with 249MHz.
That goes for all kernels. All of them have 249MHz as default min freq. Execpt MESA, which seems fine with 134MHz as far as I've seen.
Anyway, please test for yourself. Get battery monitor widget (pro). It's THE best tool for batter monitoring etc.
Thanks,I'll try.

There was no thread for this, so I decided to create one ! So guys, please share your frequencies, governors, I/O scheduler, rom name, kernel used & battery life for varied usages ( less, moderate & heavy ). If underclocking hasn't decreased your performance but at the same time if it has improvised battery life then it's worth sharing ! Help people love their battery that hate it like hell now

Why underclock the whole thing if you can just set a screen off profile? Using the phone while under clocked won't really give much battery. I use Screen off Profile for underclock, Smartass, around 700 max and 200 min..
Dont use now as I amon ultimatum rom and I am testing it so dont need that but mostly I use these settings and Battery lasts 2 days
I dont play games
After trying out many ROMs and trying various combinations of Clock Speed and Govnors, i personally feel that:
FOR BETTER BATTERY LIFE- Clock Speed: 245 - 787, Govenor- ONDEMAND (am getting 1d 5 hrs battery life with 2 hrs talktime, full time 2G connected and 3 hrs wi-fi browsing using Battery Extender 1.2)
FOR PERFORMANCE: clock: 245- 806, Govnor- SMARTASSV2
To save Battery you can further UnderClock it but I feel 787 is apt.

I'm using the light profile, which as the dev says cause minimum battery drain. and I still haven't experience any considerable impact on battery life. I guess it's fair enough to sacrifice some juice to get more performance. I think you'll agree.
also strangely enough, I get better performance from the light profile than the aggressive ones.

yep, an app offers customization whereas a flashable zip is something like plug-and-play.
but if there is no need for any customization, I think a zip would just do the Job fine.
but it's always great to have freedom for customization. which is why I love Android

It depends, I guess on which rom you use, and other stuff, but if you want better performance over battery life then aggressive profile will do, but if you are more into saving juice then light profile will be useful.
Just play around with the phone with different profiles and see which one is best for you.
IO Queue, My guess; the events that must be handled by the processer are queued before they are actually processed, IO schedulers decide the order which they are sent into the processor. So I guess by extending the IO queue it makes Sheduler decisions more better.
This is as to my own knowledge.
Correct me if I'm wrong '
P.S. - I'm currently not using Extend IO queue option.
