[Q] help me before i install megatron rom? - Optimus One, P500, V General

hey guys, i have finally installed the signed_kernel.zip and now im looking forward to install megatron rom.
i want to do a factory reset in my phone. if i do that, will it reset my installed custom recovery and megatron rom that i installed?
i want to do a factory reset after i install megatron rom. what do you think is better, do a factory reset after installing megatron rom or before installing megatron rom. i have installed custom recovery though. will it be resetted just like my megatron rom too after i do the factory reset?
or maybe after i do the factory reset, i just have to install the customr recovery and megatron ram all over again?

omg guys, i forgot to do nandrod backup in the custom recovery. i just straight install the megatron rom without doing any nand backup. is my phone will be alright?
EDIT: haha nevermind guys, after installing the megatron rom it automatically factory reset my phone. it works so well. i love the menu.
please, delete this post or locked. lol i love you guys. now im a happy androidians

well I'm using megatron ROM with a gingerbread theme with a black notification bar. You just need to flash it separately. You can find the theme on the themes and apps section here

since u already have recovery installed just download the clockowrk mod 3.1.0.0 from here http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1065197 |transfer the file to ur sd card and flash the zip from recovery reboot |Done! u have the latest recovery installed
as far as rom is concerned cm7 is all time favorite for most
here is the installatin procedure http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1038338 using clockwork whch wrk the best njoy just avoid the sd partition step if u dont want a2sd stuff or read the specific rom installation instruction which requires parttioning sd card, cm7 can be installed without partitioning ur sd

No need to wipe anything.
Backups are always handy. But be aware that backup done by amonra or cwm are not compatible to each other. That means backup taken by any recovery will only be restored with same recovery.

You have to toggle signature verification off from recovery. I hope u have that on thunderg. The zip is not signed.

That zip file is for amonra recovery which doesn't have an option for formatting system. In cwm recovery, you have the format system option.
Flashing doesn't lead to bricking normally.
And all custom roms are always rooted.

I'm sorry if I'm wrong, because I've never used cm7. But from some screenshots I've seen it seems that you can change what icons appear in the notification area. I'm not sure though.

go to cyanogenmod settings and there is something like interface (i don't know exactly, because i don't have it in phone right now), but you can certainly change icons in the notification area.
Settings>CM Settings>Interface>Notification Power Widget>Many options>Enjoy.
thanks solved the network issue.. but as i tried to open the market it just popup for a second and close .. so unable to download anything from market...btw is it ok to flash franco.kernel v14 with cm7 .. do i need to wipe anything before flashing?
no. I just flashed. you can wipe cache+dalvik if you want. check for two files mentioned in franco's thread. if you have them, You HAVE to delete them before flashing. if you dont, just flash. you need setCPU to change the CPU freq coz CM OC screen does not display at the moment. battery and smoothness is great.

I flashed Franco kernel too, half an hour before. But I didn't check for those two files. But the phone is functioning fine.
Are those two files to be deleted are meant for everyone or for those who have previously flashed Franco kernel?

[Q] is it safe to update rom using Rom Manager Premium?

this the first time i'm using Rom Manager Premium and I'v just got an update saying there's a new update for my Progect V rom.
basically every time there's a new version of this rom, i'm doing a clean install which erases all my data.
how basically Rom Manager updates roms? is it doing a clean install or just installing on top? and is it a safe way to update?
EDIT: another question, will it erase all my data while updating?
thanks.
Well i dont use project V rom on rom manager premium, but i do use cm7 nightlies on rom manager premium. On cm7 when u get a update they ask u 3 things:
back up rom
wipe dalvik
wipe data
so download it and see, it probably goes through the same steps of cm7.
is it overall a safer way of flashing roms than using CWN recovery?

There's a difference between the CM7 nightlies and the Samsung roms that are for the galaxy s. A wiping rom vs non wiping is up to the rom maintainer, and there really isn't a way around it.
Get titanium backup pro (the paid version as it allows batch backing up and restoring) and backup your user apps, then you're good to go no matter what type of rom it is.

What I have to do with my Optimus One?

Hi guys,
First, sorry for my English... I'm Brazilian... =x

But i'm reading some articles and i'm in a doubt... what i do?
I install a Custom ROM (like void forever 2.3.4)?
or
I install the 2.3 GB (Officil FW)?

void. #forevah.
LOL. "What is the best" asks for a nice flamewar. Would suggest to use the phone with stock FW for a while, perhaps just root it and continue reading.
Why?
The one advantage that I (a noob) can see, is the language (the void rom is available in PT-BR, but the official FW is available only in PT-PT... =s).
The official FW can allow me to fix the touch bug?
And what is the other advantages? It is really faster? The perfomance is better?
Thanks!

Since you're new in this I'd suggest you to take it easy atm. especially while we have ported gb, official gb, different basebands etc etc you'll get confused. Keep your current stock, root it and try to install recovery. After that you should try flashing some froyo roms or CM or andy's and you see how it goes. Baby steps

There is no touch bug on 2.3.3 stock ROM. Other than that - really, take your time and do some reading. You are asking horribly generic questions.

Hi, fellow brazilian here. I suggest you start by rooting your phone, install recovery then install franco.kernel v18cfs. It will fix the touch bug, speed up ur phone and will give you great battery life. This way youll have a tottaly bug free device.
As others said, wait a little before installing a custom rom. They all have little bugs, enjoy stock froyo for a while and keep reading the forum.

Oh, yes...
I have read about this Custom ROM! In a poll in this forum, it is winning with a good difference...
Well, can you answer three questions, please? =D
1 - This Custom is really better than Noejn's?
2 - It is available in my language? (PT-BR)
3 - How many points this custom makes in a benchmark?
Thanks!

After flashing recovery, don't forget to make a complete nandroid backup from custom recovery, before you start messing with your phone... So u can always restore your current firmware.

Erm and copy it to pc..

Root, install recovery and do a nandroid backup. Its easier to restore the stock rom using recovery, and safer too.
I can see you are eager to install gb on your device, despite our suggestion to keep your stock rom for a while. Then i suggest you flash mik's cm7, IMO the best rom out there.
Every rom based on cm7 has pt-BR, and in my experience mik's cm7 + franco.kernel + ungaze's data2sd is the fastest combo available.

ungaze data2sd is script for making some memory of your sd card function as phone memory....so that you can install more apps without moving them all time to sd.....as suggested go step by step....
1.root your phone using gingerbreak.
2.install rom manager from market.
3.install clockworkmod recovery from rom manager.(dunno abt language)
4.reboot into recovery and do a backup of rom.(nand :there is an option in rom manager menu too :"backup rom")
5.flash franco 18.1.
6.flash rom of your choice.(mik /andy/noejn anyone .....better ones from them are on the way)
take your time after each step...dont be in a hurry...and complete this before asking other questions!!

Problem restoring to stock KPD ROM

You need to get the Swype lib .
I managed to install beta version using swype installer. Still getting used to the whole new interface... I suspect as it is RC version, there are still some bugs here and there... but thank you so much for your help!!
More questions,
After upgrading to CM7 Kang RC1, I had problem with Lock menu and Flip4Silence.
Basically they are not working, Flip4silence is version 1.6 while lock menu is version 1.1.3. Since you are using the same firmware as well, I was wondering if u have alternative apps recommendation for this? Thanks.
I've found out that lock menu is redundant as CM7 has its own gesture controlled launcher. However, I'm not sure on flip4silence. Is there such a feature in CM7?

None of such a feature natively. App don't work?
I have to try more to conclude. But for apps like alarm droid, I have configured the alarm to stop when shaked. It seems like it is less responsive and takes around 3 seconds to stop the alarm after I shake...Is it ok to install link2sd in CM7?
I have the same problem with the stuck galaxy ace screen and even if i reset and wipe all these thinhgs you said in CWM 4 and then restored my backup with touchwiz and all my data it doesnt help. Still stucked on the galaxy ace screen.. ( help please..
And I also flashed cooper kang CM 7 rc1 before this happend.. I want my data back :'(

Installing from ROM Manager

Hey guys. I have a litening rom 2.3.6 still... i have installed rom manager and i found in there a CyanogenMod rom. I was thinking...
Can i just download and install from ROM manager ? Pls help
Don't use Rom Manager. At all. For anything. Does not play nice with CWRecovery on SGS2. Has a tendency to break it & cause bootloop.
Flash roms/mods/whatever directly from CWRecovery, I.E download CM zip & put in on your internal/external SD card, boot into recovery & flash from there.
Okay so. I want to install disaster rom 4.1.2. But i have 2.3.6 lite ning rom. Can i just flash directly to that rom? Do i need to do a wipe data and cache ?

You should ALWAYS wipe data and cache before flashing anything. Also wipe Dalvik-cache if necessary. You need to find that ROMs ZIP file and then you can flash it. Or tar/tar.md5 if you prefer Odin. But remember ALWAYS wipe.
But i also wonder if you can directly download a JB ROM (im on ICS currently).
There shouldn't be a problem to go from ICS to JB, but i am still not sure and that's why im wondering.
Follow the install instructions for that particular rom from the first page of the thread devoted to the rom. But generally when you move from one rom to a completely different rom (as opposed to merely flashing a nightly or different version of the same rom), you wipe.
R: Installing from ROM Manager
Okay got it. Another last question . I am on 2.3.6, do i need to flash to ICS first? I mean can i install a cyanogen10 directly from clockwork?
Sent from my GT-I9100 using xda app-developers app
I don't think I can be any more clear than I was in my previous post, but I'll try:-
Read the instructions on the first page of the CM10 discussion thread. Follow these instructions to the letter. If they don't specifically mention that you need to flash rom X before flashing CM, then you can safely assume you don't need to. Likewise if they do have such an instruction, do it.
This goes for flashing any rom. Follow the instructions. Every rom has them, and I've never seen a rom that has flashing instructions that are not clear/simple.
