How Hot is to Hot? - XPERIA X10 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

After I installed xRecovery I noticed my battery temperature started to get high. It used to run at anywhere from low thirtys too low fortys if I was running many apps. After xRecovery its high thirtys idle and will go as high as 52c is this dangerous?
One thing I noticed was when it starts to get hot, ill run killapps and it cools down. CPU usage you might say? But it even happens when I force the CPU to 245hrz constant.
Second thing that seems odd is when I check to see what apps are running it usually all of them, like one by one they load but don't obviously do so as I only see them in running apps list. I can force stop, but they very slowly come back. Is 52c too hot? And anyone have the xRecovery hot battery issue?
PS I've narrowed it down to xRecovery through a series of tests. Tempt fine without root, fine rooted, but install xRecovery and it gets hot. Manually kill the renegade apps and its fine, how might xRecovery cause programs to idle In the background? Hope I made sense as its 327am 33c inside

52 c is not good. lol
you can def expect ur battery to be dieing very quickly
and possibly overheat the phone.

I too had battery heating issues but when I changed my charger tovthe universal se charger, I no longer had any heating issues. I use set CPU with settings at on demand
Cheers!
AdY

I also use a set CPU, but it will Max out even on demand. Thing iis, if I go back to. Stock rom then it it goes back too normal..ill post a solution if I find one
Thanks

Xperia x10 battery getting hot and discharging

Hi all,
As the topic states, my new 10a of 1 month is starting to screw up. I was sitting in the classroom learning away and felt a hot spot on my leg...hauled out my phone and it was pretty hot (could still hold it but was very warm.). It was then that I noticed that the battery was discharging VERY fast, it went from about a 70-75% charge to dead in about an hour or less (I'd say less).
Got it home, charged it and left it on the charger. Took it into work today and it started to get hot again so I reset it but it's draining very fast now
Does this happen to people? I uninstalled some programs that I had put on it prior to it getting hot so I'm going to see if that fixes it...has anyone else seen this?
Chances are high that its an app giving you problems. Maybe look in your settings under battery use and see if anything is showing large cpu use.

Already checked. I think it might be hte internet staying on, but it's not showing it in the screen...says standby is suckin the most juice
if you don't already have one, get an app manager and kill all the apps that are running in the background when you're not using the phone. that same thing used to happen to me...you have to make sure you kill the apps you're not using because they just stay there running in the background which uses up a lot of battery and in turn causes the phone ot heat up too

[Q] Is battery temperature at 122°F bad?

I was playing Crusade of Destiny (full scale 3D single play RPG) while charging my phone and noticed the phone was feeling really really hot.
My phone is on Bionix 1.9.1 (OC/UV/VooDoo) and I used SetCPU to OC it to 1.2ghz.
Being me, I didn't want to melt my phone so I stopped playing and used SetCPU to check my battery temperate- low and behold, it was a little over 122°F. I went ahead and cooled the phone down asap by putting it in the freezer for a good minute or so and temperature went back down to 98°F.
My question is, at what limit should the temperature be at to insure myself that the phone will be okay?

I set up a profile on SetCPU so if my phone reaches ~120F it give me an audible warning and clocks it down to 800 max. I know some ppl have had problems with profiles, however, they work just fine for me. I have heard that the Vibrant will start getting screwy around 125F, so best to keep it under that.
Ah, didn't know I could set an audible warning with SetCPU.
Wow I was closing to screwing up my phone then. Scary.
A lot of people report it heating up like that when charging and using the phone at the same time. If it ever got that high, I think its common sense to stop playing or maybe close what your doing (3d games or something heavy on the processor) I personally never got past 120 F...
I'd at the very least not OC. That game runs well with the stock kernel and no lagfix

I would strongly suggest NOT putting your phone in the freezer. ESPECIALLY when its running hot. Sudden temperature changes tend to crack electronics.
If you're worried, unplug it from the charger and turn it off. Maybe take the battery out (carefully).

that's hot. my phone never gets past 110 when charging.

Other Battery problems...
I'm running 2.1 w/ one-click root and one click lag fix. I uninstalled ATK for the stock task manager set to strict, and I usually have wifi and gps. Ever since rooting and teh lag fix my battery has been hot battery is draining very quickly. Next thought is to just make the jump to 2.2. Any help or suggestions would be greatly appreciated.
When I flashed to Project Core kernal 1.2 and severe heat problems. Especially when overclocked passed 1 ghz you're gonna have heat issues. I don't really use my phone as it charges and i kill tasks that are not in use. Currently I'm using project core kernal v1 1ghz and its working great for me.

Heat issues

Background: cm7 nightly (6 when this happened)
So last night before I went to bed, my phone was really hot and according to z-device test, my phone was 36°C. Then in the morning, it took nearly a minute for my screen to turn on so i could stop my alarm and it was even hotter. Z-device test now said it was 50°C. Idk if that's accurate but it definitely felt well over 100° Fahrenheit. I put the screen on my face and it was almost unbearably hot. The I turned it off until it cooled off and it seemed okay the rest of the day. What could the problem be?

was the phone plugged into the charger? were you using it intensively on the charger right before you went to bed? do you have any profiles set (with setcpu or another program) that is forcing your phone to stay on high frequencies?
if it is fine now, then i wouldn't worry about it... chances are some app just caused you to use a lot of CPU, thereby making the phone hot. if it happens again, and you can't pinpoint a particular app as the culprit, i would try a battery pull, and if that doesn't work, maybe try a re-flash of CM7.
It was plugged in. And I had setcpu at 800-1200 because I heard that if the cup gets too low, the screen won't turn on... Also it was plugged into my Touchpad charger, and and since the Touchpad charger is like higher voltage or whatever, could that have affected it?
Btw, i uninstalled SetCPU since then.

yes, that is what is causing your heat issue. you should not do extremely intensive tasks (like game playing) while your phone is on the charger - your phone is receiving a lot of juice, and you are exerting a lot of juice at the same time - ends up in a bad (and hot) combination.
especially with the setcpu charging profile that you have set up... you aren't allowing your phone to get below 800 mhz while it is on the charger, so of course it is going to be excessively hot when charging, for the reason mentioned above. if you got rid of that profile (don't have to get rid of setcpu completely), and let the phone dictate the frequency it charges at (most likely 200 mhz, or even deep sleep), then your heat issues will be solved.
glad i could help.

If you limit max frequency to less than 800 on a stock kernel - you'll encounter SoD issues.
With a custom kernel that includes the SoD fix (nearly any custom kernel does), you're fine. I wouldn't set a limit to 200 max and do NOT use "Powersave" for screen off.
Which custom kernel? Ive never flashed kernels before... Do kernels come with Roms? Because I have cm7 nightly...

Atrix 4g getting very hot and draining quickly

I'm using the Neutrino ROM right now. My phone will get very hot after a while, usually during browsing and the battery will drain extremely quick. It use to not do this. I thought it might be Dolphin HD browser I was using but it does the same with Opera mini.
Any ideas on what I can do to fix this? It never did this before and I'm only half way through my day and it's already at 40%. I use to be able to get through my entire work day and still be in the good 60-70%...
I had this same issue when I first got my Atrix and it started happening after I rooted it and customized it. Even after a factory reset, it still ran hot and the battery drained quickly.
I ended up performing a complete factory reset and took the phone back to get it replaced. The replacement worked just fine, even after rooting it and doing the same customizations I had done with the first one.
If you just got it, I would suggest taking it back and getting it replaced with another one. It could just be a bad battery.
My 2 cents!
Here are a few things to help you diagnose your battery drain issue.
Download "CPU Spy" from the market. This program will show you how long your cpu has spent in each of it's various clock states. This program does not reset it's data until you reset it, and your phone's cpu will not sleep while charging. So charge the phone then open the program and reset timers. Now wait a while and check the stats. Your cpu should be going into "Deep sleep" mode most of the time you are not using it. If it is not 75% or more deep sleep after a couple hours, or if it shows deep sleep under unused clock states then you have some condition (probably an app) keeping it awake.
If you have an app keeping your phone awake you need to determine which one is doing it. This can be done by backing them all up with titanium and deleting a few then testing (takes forever,) or by way of another program. I use a program called "better battery stats" from the market, which is a paid app. This app gives you information on wakelocks, partial wakelocks, and processes that are running. It can be used to find the process responsible, which you then trace back to the app that is using it.
I found out about all this when K9 mail was running away with me. It wasn't too bad as long as I was connected to wifi, but while traveling it would constantly use a very small amount of data and refuse to let the cpu sleep. I deleted it and for about 2 months now I get home after 12 hours with 60-70% or more battery life and about an hour of screen time used. My deep sleep percentage is in the 80's every day. My phone is runnign Jokers's cm9 overclocked to 1.45.
Hope this helps.
Try badass battery off market, it will let you see where it drains
Just switched from Nutrino... What version are you using? EE/GT/GT+? I only used the EE because its stock clock speed. I noticed CPU gets extremely hot with slightest OC. Also, noticed quick battery drain while screen was on (quicker than other ROM's)...

Also, if your using the gt+ version with the over clock kernel like I am using, do the phone a favor by keeping the phone underclocked at 1000 MHz instead of 1450 MHz. That will help the heating up too. That's what I do. Battery is great too.

As Voelker does, I have the 1.3 version of Neutrino but keep it clocked at 1Ghz max with SetCPU profiles most since any overclock tends to get warmer than I want. I havent had a temp crash yet, it's just me being paranoid sometimes. I do set it to 1.3 when I am playing games for smoothness, but I havent noticed any unusual battery drain, just more heat than I want.

Overheating and bad battery?

Hey. Im running the latest cm9 bit im having issues with it now. My phone gets very hot very quickly, even whrn it has been dormant for hoirs and i run the xda app on mimimum brightness. The entire phome gets extremely hot whilst charging as well overnight, extrrmelty hot.
Now time for the battery drain problem. I have heard reports saying people get up to 0.5% loss and hour bit i am getting 10-20% loss an hour with no use.
Sent from my GT-I9100 using XDA
To me that simply suggests you have a background service thats running constantly maybe some location service or download.
Remember just cause its running hot doesn't mean its overheating.
Cheers. Any idea how i can find this rogue program?
Sent from my GT-I9100 using XDA
There aren't any shortcuts when it comes to squeezing maximum battery life out of the phone. There is no 'do X & W and end up with 0.5% drain'. Every phone is setup differently, every phone is used differently. Basically you need to nail down what's causing that drain, and if it's things like apps syncing, or notifications or whatever, you need to make a decision as to whether stopping those apps doing that is something you're prepared to live with to save some juice (that was just an example, btw; could be heaps of things causing battery drain).
For starters, get BetterBatteryStats from Google Play, then post logs/screenshots in the BBS thread (or here) & someone should be able to help you. One thing tho, do not install BBS, let it run for 10 minutes (or 30 minutes or even an hour) & then start posting stuff. Let it run for a couple hrs/overnight/a day, that way the info you get will be more meaningful.
Other than that, it's simply a case of reading (a lot; understatement). There is a wealth of info on here re: your issues. You just have to find it.
Ditto with the overheating thing. It's normal for the phone to get warm on charge (particularly if you use it while it's charging). I don't think there is a 'normal' temperature, that is, some people report their phone reaching mid-40's C & not having any probs when charging, whereas mine tends to max out at mid 30's if I've really run it down (mine tends to charge warmer when there's a lot less juice left in the battery).
I think it could be something elsebas it is happening on cm9 and sammy based roms.
Sent from my GT-I9100 using XDA
You should also check CPU Spy and/or Badass Battery Monitor to identify what/when and why the Battery is drained. BBS is really good, but Badass is a little bit simplier to understand. CPU Spy help you to find out on which MHz your phone is running, sometimes that helps a lot.
As stated before, its a unique problem, not everyone is having the same issues, sometimes a normally working app is running wild or a new update from a previouslly good working app has a bug that gives your phone the creeps. Sometimes in BBS you will see eventX_XXXX messages, these are funny, because I never found out which process is behind this and aLogcat didn't help further (That was when I was on MIUI with my problems.). ATM I have no problems, so I don't need such apps, but aLogcat is funny to watch what happens there in the background and helps to find out what these eventX_XXXX Wakelocks and partial wakelocks are.
If its getting annoying hot near camera with no to little use you need a wipe or modem change.
I tried a wipe but unfortunately no difference. Can you suggest a better modem for me to use? Sorry if I am being annoying but I don't have much experience of this yet.
Sent from my GT-I9100 using XDA
you have to find modems, I personally only flash stock roms so modems comes with it, or use mobile Odin to flash just the modem from same roms.
Check the general thread, there's one specific thread about heat and modem
Format
Format you phone + system + external sdcard from cwm before installing the rom and try again
