Can anyone get Google voice input instead of Vlingo when using the built in swype keyboard? Will I have to uninstall Vlingo to get it?

Go to manage applications under Settings, then Go to Vlingo, and then finally click reset defaults.

Checked that, won't work since Vlingo isn't set as a default.
Under Multitouch keyboard settings there's an option for picking between the two, but not on the Swype keyboard settings.
Noticed the same issue too. Dumb question but I assume Vlingo is bloatware? any use for it? Was one program it wouldn't let me remove.
I used it on previous phones that didn't have good speech recognition but with google voice actions vlingo doesn't have as much use

I think the Swype keyboard that is included with the atrix is hard coded to use Vlingo.
This is the kind of OEM BS that makes me wish the Atrix was a pure google device.

I asked this question in the Themes and Apps but thought I would ask here.
VVM from Verizon does not work with CM7, or at least not with the alpha build. Does anyone know if it generally works with the stable builds, or if there is an alternative.
Thanks
Go to the market, and Choose the 'verizon' app store, (right next to app and games), and you should see a visual voicemail app there. download that and see if it works.
I'm wondering if it doesn't work because it's integrated (atleast it looks like) into the Sense UI.
EDIT: Actually, here https://market.android.com/details?id=com.vzw.vvm.androidclient

If the standalone Verizon VVM doesn't work, you can always try Google Voice or YouMail. Both work well and are free, so you can save yourself $2-3/month.
Can I use the google voice app to track voicemails without having people call my GV number.

YES. When you setup GV on your phone you will configure it to become your VM. That is how I use it and it works great.
As the title says, went into my keyboard settings and found this keyboard installed.
Cannot see any way of removing it as its not listed under applications.
Anyone else have this installed!?

It comes bundled with Talkback, it's an accessibility keyboard. You can remove Talkback from system/app with a root explorer application or try force stopping it

Hi nikzDHD, I too had problem with this Eyes-Free keyboard. Everytime it used to get selected as default keyboard automatically and I have to manually change it to Swype every time. This used to happen atleast 10-15 times a day which was frustrating. I tried a lot to uninstall/freeze this app but I couldn't find it at all.
Thanks for your suggestion. I've un-installed the Talkback update and now the Eyes-Free keyboard is gone. All is well now

Help with Google Now & replacing Vlingo w/ Google Voice on Jelly Bean 4.1.2 (XXLS8)
Hi guys,
Just wondering if anyone knows how to launch Google Now on Jelly Bean 4.1.2 (XXLS8)? I can't seem to find the app listed anywhere!?! I do get notifications one how long it will take to get home if I'm out and about and when I click on those notifications, google now launches but I can't seem to find the actual app itself...
Also, is there any way to replace Vlingo with Google Voice or Google Now with a double press or double click on the home button? Vlingo is kind of useless/dead since Google Voice came on the scene anyway...
Thanks in advance for any help!
i would try installing google plus again from play and see if it shows up now. also try changing your launcher. i hear that apps dont always show up on twiz launcher.

My bad, I meant Google Now, not Google Plus - original post updated to correct the error...
OK, so I've figured out that 'Google Now' is labelled just as 'Google' in the apps...
Now, is there some way of replacing that stupid Vlingo with Google Now or Google voice with a double press/double tap on the home button?

now google now will be the default
worked on Epiq 4g touch running jelly bean rooted
This worked on my Galaxy SII Jellybean (not rooted) too. Have tried dozens of suggestions to kill this stupid app, so thanks for sharing.

I don't like just disabling it... now a gray box shows up for a microsecond when I double tap the home button.
Can't we have a double tap bring google now on the i9100? :/
I can't provoke any reaction from voice search. It's listed in all apps on storage but not in app library in launcher. I have Google voice search in my apps on Google play store, but can't interact from there. No buttons to push.
Stock ands latest update. Language set to us English.

Try uninstalling and reinstalling it again from the Play Store interface.
Not being able to interact with it in play store sadly includes uninstalling.
Not even through the web version of Google play?

Nope. Not there either.
Try clearing the data cache for Google Play and Voice Search. Settings -> Apps -> Google Play Store -> 'Clear Data' and then do the same for voice search. Then see if you can uninstall via google play.
Nope, didn't work. In fact I can't see an option to uninstall any of my apps from web interface.

Are you rooted with wp_remove.ko module? You could try deleting the voice search apk and then reinstalling google play.
If you're not, the only thing I can think of is to factory reset.
No. Not rooted. Will factory reset change pre-installed programs?

Yes it will delete any data they had.
Are you able to open voice search? Is it placed in app drawer for you?
This is a follow up to this post of mine: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=52821145
Contacted VZW support because after the OTA Kitkat update (stock ROM) on my SCH-i545, using the keyboard mic suddenly doesn't pause my music (Play Music or Pandora). All previous Android versions on two phones have paused music when using the mic for voice-to-text.
VZW rep "doesn't think" it's supposed to work that way anyway. Voice-to-text works (if I stop any music manually) and the music apps work, so no problem. (Arrogant bastard.)
So, can I please get any of you with a stock S4 running Kitkat to test whether when playing music in Google Play Music or Pandora, and clicking the mic button on the Samsung keyboard in the stock SMS app, the music pauses until you're done with voice-to-text?? The VZW rep couldn't say with authority whether it was supposed to work or not, and seemed reluctant to find out. If it works for a number of you out there, I want to tell VZW this.
Note: In Settings under My device/Language and input, I have the Samsung keyboard and Google voice typing enabled, the latter of which provides the mic button on the keyboard.

I'm running Kit Kat factory stock (NC5) rooted.
With Play Music running, I opened google search and hit the mic button. The music paused while I spoke.

Thanks, k1mu. I use it in the SMS app, and it's always stopped music from playing while the mic was active. Coworker here with my identical phone/OS tested and it stopped, too. Stupid VZW rep just didn't want to deal with this one-off issue.

k1mu - Interestingly, the music does stop for me for a voice search in Google Search. What happens if you're playing music and hit the mic button on the Samsung keyboard in the SMS app?
So I just reset the phone. Didn't sign in with my Google account. Tested, and music DOES pause when I use the keyboard microphone button in SMS! Now to reinstall apps ONE AT A TIME until I find the offending app. Grrr!
Found the culprit! Factory Reset phone. Did not allow phone to reinstall my downloaded apps. Updated default apps until one of them broke the function. Google Search broke it. Will not allow Google Search to update from now on.

Yeah, thanks! Tested this on a coworker's phone. Identical VZW SCH-i545 with stock OTA 4.4.2. He had the Google Search update and his keyboard mic button DID pause music... until he put the Google Search widget on his desktop. Once he did that, or used Search, it broke the pause function. I guess the issue doesn't show up unless you have the widget on your desktop or use Google Search. I have the widget and use it, so that's an issue for me.
Posted in Google's Google Search forum. I guess we'll see if someone at Google picks up on that...
I downgraded to "Google Search 3.2.17.1009776" and problem solved. Music now pauses when using the Google Voice Input. There's an apk repository here on androiddrawer.

Thank you for tracking down the cause of the issue and the fix. I was just trying to figure it out on my VZW LG G2 when I ran across this thread.
Do we know if there is an entry in the Google issue tracker for this bug? I would love to be able to update Google Search at some point.

Bump. Problem still exists, and I can't update Google Search without breaking the Voice Input keyboard.
Anybody find an issue tracker? I'd like to spread visibility of this issue. I've sent feedback through the app.

I never was able to find a reference to this issue on any of the tracker sites, but I wasn't sure where to look. I am like you, though, I haven't been able to update Google Search. I hope the next Google Search update fixes this problem, but I am skeptical.
Just as an update, the newest version of Google search doesn't fix this issue.
That is the update released June 25.

You need to go to Settings -> Application Manager and find "Google Search". Hit the "Uninstall Updates" button. To be safe, I would clear the app's data, too. Then you can install the older version.
Be sure the find the Google Search page in the Play Store and turn off automatic updates.
Thank you for the quick reply, however I tried that before posting ...there is no "uninstall updates" tab
