Vibrant With TMO SIM in China - Vibrant Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I will be traveling to China in a few weeks and I was wondering if anyone can tell me if I use my vibrant with a T-Mobile SIM card connecting thru WiFi while using the WiFi calling app at the same time will I be able to make and receive calls without any problems? Any help would be very much much appreciated.

Have you looked at the map and see if even there is a signal there? There are some signal boosters chip which you insert with sim card but not sure how they work. Other that that, only way you can make calls is through third party programs and Wifi.
Regards,

Make data network work?

Im going camping next weekend and i get 3/4 bars there.. But it isnt on E or G or anything.. Just emergency calls. Is there anyway i can get around that? Because obviously i am in reach of a tower for signal. It just wont let me use it unless its 911. I dont need internet data or anything like that, just be able to call. Changeable?

Ehh try rebooting your phone or reselect your network.
If you're getting a signal, but you can't do anything but emergency calls, it means that specific network's tower is refusing to let you connect because T-Mobile doesn't have any roaming agreements with them.
And there is no way to get around that...

Bc i kno the vibrant is at&t capable... sorry if dumb question

Unlocking means sim unlocking, or the ability to use any company's sim, provided your phone can connect to their network.

The thing is, if T-Mobile has ABSOLUTELY no signal in an area, they have roaming agreements there, even if it's AT&T.
There must be a T-Mobile tower somewhere near there, so it won't let you connect to the AT&T tower with anything else except emergency calls.
If you really need to be able to call someone, go to Wal-Mart or something and buy the cheapest AT&T prepaid phone, get some prepaid time, unlock your Vibrant, and pop the AT&T SIM in your card. You will get data too, since it'll just use some money off your account for data, and you will get 3G since the Vibrant is AT&T 3G capable.

The special SIM card is meant for the NFC functionality per T-Mo rep.

You don't need a special sim card just a newer one that's made for 4g. And you don't actually "need" it , I was able to use WiFi with my older gen sim.
I think its mostly for bete 4g connection.
I noticed a major dif in the phone when I put in the updated sim card.
Just ask tmo for a new sim I'd you don't have one, they shouldn't charge you for it, but then again....lol

I only got WiFi calling working after I got the TM9177 sim card. When I called tmobile they told me I could get one at their store for $20. Ended up getting one on Amazon for $7 with free shipping. I am on energy's latest ROM with stock kernel and WiFi calling works perfectly.
Well it would be perfect if I could send mms over WiFi calling. Has anyone been able to get this to work? A Google search for "TM9177 WiFi calling mms" shows that there are at least a few people that have been sending mms over WiFi. I get very spotty reception inside my apartment and this would be an awesome improvement to this already awesome phone.

I just think it's that particular ROM with some WiFi calling issues. MMS doesn't work over WiFi calling and texting over WiFi calling has issues too. Bullet Proof is working for WiFi calling including MMS that's what I'm currently on until those issues get ironed out.

Is the anyway I can use wifi hot spot when my network doesn't allow it?

Hi all,
I am using a unlocked and rooted I9100 running cm9, with the Woolworth prepaid credit, which runs on the Optus network.
But Woolworth have made it so you can't use the 5gb of data you get for wifi hot spot ect,
My question is this:
I have pre ordered my nexus 7 a few weeks back, and it only has wifi, so I can't use mobile data with it. So I want to be able to use wifi hot spot from my phone to use Internet on my tablet, but my prepaid network doesn't support it.
But as I am rooted, is the anyway I can get to use wifi hot spot? Even tho the network doesn't want you to.
Cheers

Using T-Mobile WiFi calling feature?

So I am currently using my VZW G3 on T-Mo. Anyone know of a way to get WiFi calling and messaging enabled on this. Maybe flash the calls apk from a t-mo ROM? Anyone have any ideas or success doing this? Oh and I'm only using t-mo on a VZW G3 till I can buy the t-mo variant.

I have never heard of anyone being able to get that to work, without a T-Mobile phone and post-pay sim. I just use Google Voice, now, whether I am running with my Verizon sim or my T-Mobile prepay sim. The Cricket sim is unlimited voice, but most people call me on Google Voice now anyway. Rings all my phones and my tablets too.

Has anyone been able to figure this out?
