So I am currently using my VZW G3 on T-Mo. Anyone know of a way to get WiFi calling and messaging enabled on this. Maybe flash the calls apk from a t-mo ROM? Anyone have any ideas or success doing this? Oh and I'm only using t-mo on a VZW G3 till I can buy the t-mo variant.

I have never heard of anyone being able to get that to work, without a T-Mobile phone and post-pay sim. I just use Google Voice, now, whether I am running with my Verizon sim or my T-Mobile prepay sim. The Cricket sim is unlimited voice, but most people call me on Google Voice now anyway. Rings all my phones and my tablets too.

Has anyone been able to figure this out?

Don't do it. You'll regret it. I did this with my Sprint EVO 4G and the data is so slow and with high latency that it is basically unusable. The voice call quality is also terrible. With metropcs you will only connect at 1x speed (2G). The other networks are not compatible (3G and 4G).
I'm running gingerbread on m Evo on metropcs... I have 3g, the evo is awesome on metro. Here is what I recommend; root, delete bloatware and add updated prl. The evo is flawless on metro.
I decided to try the Thunderbolt on metro pcs...it is a work in progress. After getting 3 "it can't be done," found a place that made some progress. I have text and talk on metro. Now if I remove the sim card, web works- no 3g. The person whom is working on it, will give it another try in a few days. Will report if it works...

Update: still no 3G or able to sent out pic messages...but everything else works great...
Will never work right because,,,,
I do not post a lot unless I see somthing that touches my experience, but this does. I am a system engineer (contractor) and work on all of the carrier's systems, just finished up 4.5 years ay VZW and now on a short one for Metro. The problems You will have are not worth it because consistant results will vary. Sprint uses 1.9 ghz for voice and 4g is Wi-Max, so EVO will have problem with 4g and maybe voice because Metro uses 2.1 ghz AWS in some markets and 1.9 in others and their 4g is LTE so it is a crap shoot at best and all will work nowhere and none in some places. The same is said for VZW devices as they use 850 and 1.9 for voice and EVDO and 700 for 4g LTE. If you just want to play with it ok, but expect no reliable functionallity as if You were to use a branded device for Your carrier.
Like I posted previously, on my HTC Evo- it is fully flashed (web 3g only, mms, gps, text and talk). Running Gingerbread and all features working (minus LTE). There was no issue with voice whats so ever. Never had a dropped call. My evo has reliable 3g in my market. Did you add the latest prl? I also bought my wife an Evo and she loves it. All features working- on Gingerbread with 3g speeds.
Now I have a thunderbolt flashed to metro pcs (web 2g only, no mms, gps, text and talk). But will eventually soon have it on 3g. Hopefully mms as well. There are some also reporting having the Thunderbolt fully flashed with 3g and mms on cricket...so it is all matter of time. Voice sounds very clear.
I highly recommend the HTC Evo on metro. The Thunderbolt still needs more time until someone gets it going.
When can I expect the thunderbolt to be flashable I really need to asap

MetroPCS Thunderbolt
I flashed my Thunderbolt onto MetroPCS, and I can confirm that SMS, Calling and Internet Works (Only 1X here in Dallas)
Only thing I need is MMS working. It's difficult. I tried everything from changing the APNs to using Go SMS for MMS. Nothing works.
go to whiterabbit for the mms fix, its been a while since i touched a metro phone.
the key thing should be finding a way to get the 4g working, since it is an lte phone.
i have a few ideas if any one is interested
I hate Verizon so much for the BS they pulled on us with the Tbolt and abandonware.
I'm looking at dumping VZW and going back to TMobile on a contract-free, monthly discount plan.
EDIT: Nevermind, I wasn't thinking. Of course VZW is CDMA and Tmobile is GSM.
The thunderbolt can be flashed to different CDMA networks. The only problem is that you will only get 3g. The LTE frequency that Verizon has is only usable by a Verizon phone so it is locked there.

Wait I thought people were saying that 3G doesn't work on metro and only 1x worked?

I don't know what kind of network metro has. If its CDMA it should be able to get 3g but its possible that their frequency is out of the thunderbolts range.

I'm on beans build 6 on a vzw version gn2 and when I pop an att or tmo sim I don't seem to get 3g, only an "H+" symbol. Phone calls work fine. The gn2 seems to known which sim is in and picks up the correct carrier and the apn info that bean included in this build does show up. Whether they are right may be a different story but I'd assume it is. I've also tried this on cleanrom se vzw 1.0 with the apn hack from the other thread and it didn't work then either with a tmo sim, same H+ symbol. Am I missing something? Does this work for others? I'm in the bay area so I know I should have good connectivity on those carriers., not sure if this phone just doesn't have the right radios for 3g on att or tmo?

H+ is hspa+ which is tmobiles 4g at the moment

Yes I'm using my at&t straight talk sim on the verizon s4 and it works great!
Is there anything special I have to do with my phone? When I order the sim card from straight talk it won't let me select the cdma option so, should I just select gsm as if I have a AT&T Galaxy S4?

CDMA does not use SIM cards. The S4 is a CDMA/GSM/LTE device. AT&T is a GSM network.
You might have to edit the APN settings to use Straight Talk.

The Verizon S4 is a CDMA phone AND a GSM phone. I believe they made it this way so you can go to about any other country in the world and still use your phone - or it was just cheaper to mass produce the radios with everything in it.
Anyway the only thing to change is the APN settings to
Name=Straight Talk
APN=att.mvno
Proxy=proxy.mvno.tracfone.com
Port=80
MMSC=http://mmsc.cingular.com
MMS proxy=mms2.tracfone.com
works perfect. However I did just find a small problem. I have flashed both cyanogenmod and Liquidsmooth AOSP ROMS and they do not work with at&t ST sim - when I call the phone it does not answer or register the call at all. Not sure what the problem is, seems like for some reason it is not registering with the at&t network. Trying to find a fix. However, the phone has worked fine with all TW based ROMS I've tried.
Ok thanks for the information but I have one more question... I am rooted with Clean Rom 1.5, do I have to unroot my phone? Will I still be able use wife tether or foxfi? I heard AT&T took foxfi away.
Sent from my SCH-I545 using xda app-developers app
Oops just saw that you messaged me - yes just choose GSM. You do not have to unroot your phone but like I said in the last post - I cannot get AOSP roms to receive or make calls - data works - but not phone calls - which is rather strange and I'm sure can be fixed but nothing I have tried seems to work.
GSM is fine but in reality once you get the right LTE bands turned on, would it be better in global?

What kind of data do you see on AT&T? HSPA+? 3G? 2G?
Hey everyone, I recently ditched Verizon on my galaxy s4 and have gone to straight talk with an at&t sim card installed, my phone is rooted from before and I have titanium back up pro installed and have frozen all the boatware and Verizon apps I could find but there are a few things I want to get rid off that are still hanging around and the main one being the APN for Verizon as it is not used and have read it is best to only have one APN installed, how do I remove this as I cant even select it or anything, can anyone help me make my S4 Verizon free???
Do you get AT&T LTE or just 3g?
Sent from my Galaxy S4 on Verizon
Just 3g but I got the bring your own phone kit, I believe if I order the sim card from straight talk I can get 4g but also read unless you have t mobile you cant get 4g but t mobile has horrible service here so I had to get at&t but I mean it works and I was paying 200 for Verizon so 45 bucks for decent web and good calling and messaging so cant beat that

You only get T-Mobile 4g if you're in a refarmed area. check airportal.de to see if you're in the area.

I'm currently trying it out. I bought the AT&T compatible sim from their website, and got the APN settings directly from them. Everything seems to work ok.
From what I have read you can get HSPA+ but not LTE when using the AT&T SIM on straight talk with the verizon note 2. Also in 4.3 there is no need to root to update the APN. Otherwise it works fine.
I was thinking about switching but after doing the math my verizon ETF eats all but $40 of the savings over the next 8 months until my contract ends. Will check it out again come September.

Correct. Our phones do have have the AT&T LTE bands. And actually being able to edit APN's was opened up on 4.1.2 without rooting but the thought is still correct.
