Anyone else having issues with Tango on the Atrix? Mine keeps forceclosing, the app won't even load all the way
yes I am also having issues... just have to wait for an update to support our phone.
That's what i was thinking, i just wanted to make sure i wasn't crazy. They need to hurry up and update the app!
"Avi, Feb-24 01:56 (PST):
Greetings from Tango!
Thank you for contacting us about getting the Motorola Atrix supported on Tango! Today we got our hands on this great new device and our engineers are hard at work on a fix! We hope to release it soon and will let you know as soon as an update solving the problem is available.
Thank you for your patience!"
Hope its soon!
I'm hoping it's soon too!
I'm sure the quality will be great with the .2Mbit upload speed
I kid, I kid.
I prefer not using wifi as it drains the battery a lot faster.
Thats the same response Tango gave me regarding the Dell Streak. That was over 2 months ago
let's hope it doesn't take that long in this case. at&t seems to be fully behind the atrix. already saw a couple ads on tv...
keep pestering tango is all i can request...
Separately, and only if many of your contacts arent on tango...
qik for atrix is out and it works great. i only test from atrix to atrix and atrix to nexus s.

New version released for Android!
Quick bump here. Tried this today and it works quite well. Much better and higher quality than the yahoo messenger, and a great alternative to skype....though not as many friends have Tango. But it functions quite nicely.
They've announced that they'll be launching desktop software soon. Once they do this it will be frickin' amazing. Glad we have Gtalk Voice and Video working but the more options, the better.
Screw Skype and the fact that it never closes unless you download a third party app to kill it. It's owned by MS now too so it will only get worse.

Hi peeps (pun intended),
Does anyone have any information on when the peep app is likely to be fixed? I know HTC released a statement saying it was fixed, but mine is still playing up? I'm guessing it's a Voda problem?
Nope,
Peep on WinMo is still not working, on Android it looks like it is working now.
I am waiting for updates on this case too.
BTW: HTC never said they fixed it, you probably read the @HTC tweet, this was Twitter tweeting HTC.
Looks like the ball is in the HTC court now. Their developers are looking at the problem at this moment, so I am still confident HTC will develop a patch for this.
But I am also looking for a replacement.

Thanks for the heads up Wilco! I don't think Motweets is working either? I was doing a little digging on omarket earlier today, and all the latest downloads reviews stated it wasn't working? I just hope they get it working soon? I've only had my HD2 a week and it's not worked since I got it. : (

I can confirm motweets is working very well and has permanently replaced peep as far as Im concerned........
The whole breakdown was a blessing in disguise.......
I only use twitter to follow a few people so peep was ok but if you actually use twitter to its full potential then peep must really suck big time.....
Theres a free version of motweets, might be worth checking that out......
pocketwit is working now. they recently released a new version.

HTC peep has not been fixed yet, no worries, you can use MoTweet and it has a better interface. Also, TouchTwit has not been updated.

Cough it up people, who knows what?
umm... if im not mistaken werent we all expecting the intl version to get froyo first anyways? and seeing as its october 1 I'd say giving the carriers a month to load the crap out of our versions is about right. And if you don't mind me asking, what exactly do want from 2.2? I'm pretty sure the JIT compiler and flash are the only things we're looking for considering our cpu/gpu combo makes it a perfectly decent phone as it stands.
Personally i'm waiting for some ROM devs to port some awesomeness, but alas patience is a virtue
"late October" is fine for me if that's when it actually happens.

Flash, JIT, improved gmail, chrome to phone, voice actions, handsfree bluetooth (not a fan of nuance), etc, not to mention that koush won't work on a cm port until froyo (although it appears wes is working on the vibrant, so who knows). None of them are huge glaring issues, but when you come from a a froyo phone to eclair it's the little things that you miss.
hopefully they can get a hold of a leaked version and start building roms around it so we dont have to wait the extra weeks or months it takes carriers to test and then send it out

This is exactly my hope. Seeing info posted in spain, I would wonder if that would be the first market to release, and why. Stateside I know the carriers don't like to give ota dates usually until they start rolling out. When Froyo originally hit the first few N1s there was a flashable zip available within hours. As for the benefits, there's a **** ton, including the fact that most of or development will start there.

oh huh I blanked. why the heck would devs use 2.1 for their ROMS xD
Then yes i am impatiently waiting for this
I hope is true
I cannot wait for froyo, it unlocks the true power of the fascinate
yea flash and roms are what i'm really excited for. i miss that "new phone" feeling
i had droid 2 for a couple weeks b4 trading it in for a galaxy and flash was really nice. plus i swear the youtube quality was better on droid 2s
I'd really like the Bluetooth connections fixed for my Ford Sync. Great device significantly hindered by GPS/Bluetooth/Flash/etc issues.
Don't forget proper MS Exchange support built in - I know several business people who won't make the jump from iPhone to Android until they can do things like manage Outlook Calendaring appointments from their phone.

+1 here. Won't work on my Ford Sync either. Have you upgraded to Sync 2.1? Takes a dealer install
Android does have "proper" Exchange management available by way of Touchdown. While I admit it's not free, it's not terribly expensive either and is FAR more functional than even the iPhone is. At least, as compared to iOS 3.x. I have not seen the enhancements in iOS 4, so I can't comment directly on that, but I'm willing to bet it's still more powerful. That's what's so great about Android though. If what's built in is unsatisfactory, you can find an alternative. Try finding an alternative mail app for the iPhone.
That said, Google really does need to get on the ball and improve their ActiveSync features. It is so rudimentary right now, it's unusable if you're a power user. I almost wish they would buy Touchdown and integrate it into Android.

I would watch that... they just purchased BlindType so they are still buying companies left and right so you just might get your wish this year.

I think so. My dealer just checked the entire system for an error I was getting. Leave it to MS to have a memory leak. Cured the whole problem by removing batter cable and replacing. In PC parlance - a hard reboot!!!
I am able to use the Fascinate with the Sync - just cannot do that and download phonebook and use messaging.
What a pity for a pretty nice phone.

Yes you're right about Touchdown, problem is that a lot of people won't invest the time necessary to find apps, especially if they're coming from the iPhone universe where there usually isn't an alternative... it's either in the built-in client or it isn't supported. Sadly, people evaluate (and will strongly criticize) the phone based on how it works straight out the box.

Sadly, you are correct, in that value is often judged in out of the box performance. That's why I said that Google needs to seriously overhaul their Exchange integration. I really hope they do cut a deal with Nitrodesk so they can integrate Touchdown into Android, like they're doing with BlindType.

Hey guys i have a samsung infuse 4g but a guy offered to trade it for his g2x. Should i trade it and if yes why. Is the android development better on g2x then infuse?

well looking at the infuse's dev section I'm not sure which is better, haha. I have the G2X had it for a year now, and I'm happy with it cause of our devs, stock it is useless. LG can not code or do anything productive at this point. Although we do have CM7 fully working and great I might add. We have about 4-5 ICS roms although they all have little things not working almost all the same issues (no media acceleration do to LG/nvidia not releasing drivers/source) so video camera will not work, camera works but will force close eventually requiring a reboot. Video playback will not work without apps from the market and sometimes they still come back slomo or choppy. I don't consider it daily driver but its definitely nice to have for some fun to play with.
If anything I suggest you sell the infuse and buy a GS2 device or wait til GS3 comes out.
Thanks

I recently came from a nexus 4 i have sent it back from some of its short comings . how do you windows phone 8 users feel about the phone besides the lacking apps. are you satisfied with your purchase or would you trade it and go to a nexus 4 or any other phone? keep in mind i had every phone in the world lol
i just want some honest opinions. i am torn between going back to nexus or try a 920
I really like my Lumia 920. This recent update seems to have fixed lots of stuff but for me it's introduced one problem

which is what?
I like my 920, my wife and son both like theirs. They both came from iPhones, being a developer I have and use lots of phones, both iPhone and Android. I was bored stiff with iOS and Android is too flaky so I went for Windows and loved it. A "lack of apps" depends on where you're coming from. Personally, I don't live in my phone and only really use Slingplayer, Tune In and whatever Scrabble type game is handy and they're all available so I'm happy. None of us (and, I suspect, the vast majority) have had any problems with the phones before or after the latest update. I also suspect we'll be seeing a glut of apps in the near future since WP8 has been pretty well accepted and a lot of the dev types I know are giving WP8 top priority at the moment.
I ordered a red lumia 920 today. hope its not too girly lol. I wanted yellow or cyan but those were out. I am pretty excited about the phone and wanted it since its release. so hopefully I wont be let down. I just hope there are a slew of apps soon since I do live in my phone. the few I use right now are there but very skinned down and buggy so hopefully it pics up. but I do talk and text a lot so apps are not too much a concern
I'm loving mine so far.
Coming from a year of iOS, and Android (before a brief spell with Meego on the N9) prior to that, it's easy to tell that WP8 is still quite an immature OS, and there is lots of room for improvement. A proper, aggregated notification viewer/manager for example is needed, and the whole one system wide sound setting - so the volume that you have when listening to music is also the setting for the ringer volume - is ridiculous. But these are things that can be fixed/improved with system updates, and as for the lack of apps, well it's not been an issue for me at all.

Finally got fed up with this dog-turd of a phone, and ordered a Nokia Lumia 822 as a replacement.
I have been with Android since flashing Donut onto my HTC Vogue, and while it was fun at first, I'm at a point now I just want my phone to work, with no need to constantly flash ROMs to get things to work well. I'm also tired of the constant lags/freezes that seem to still plague Android phones, so I've decided to take the plunge and move to a WP8 phone.
Anyway, the reason I'm writing this post is to see if anyone here has any interest in my documenting my experiences making the switch. If you want me to post here, let me know. If not, well, let me know that too. :silly:

@OP: I don't think I could ever go from an Android phone to a Win8 phone. It's just not the same. Plus, I'm pretty sure I'd lose a lot of apps... Though, I am looking for a cheap ICS/JB replacement for my X2, anyone have a suggestion there? Looking at the Droid Bionic, but even that is fairly expensive...
You picked a bad time to switch. Android up until ICS has been pretty crappy. I came from webOS and when I was using that, I thought Android was clunky and a little ugly. This is when Gingerbread was the newest version. I made the switch because webOS was going nowhere and there was no way in hell I was switching to an iPhone. Since the Droid X2 was my first Android phone, I came into android with a not so perfect experience thanks to Motorola and their locked down ways. I used ICS and JB when they were released on the DX2 but we all know they werent perfect. I was lucky enough to be given a Galaxy Nexus and since then, my thoughts on Android have gotten a lot better. You dont know what you are missing until you use a phone thats able to fully run the latest version of Android. Lag is pretty much gone. Everything works as it should. And Android is just getting better with every update. You say you have been using Android since the old Android days. Thats why I say you picked a bad time to switch because those were the crappy android days.
As far as Windows Phone, I have nothing against it. It looks great. My girlfriend is actually making the switch from Android to WP8 this month too. Shes not as much of a customizer as I am when it comes to phones so I think she will be happy with it. Also, it will give me a chance to check it out for myself. Not that I will ever switch. I'm sticking with Android and looking forward to their next unveiling in the next couple months.

I appreciate what you are saying here, and I agree that then new phones are better in this regard than before. However the only phones that even remotely come close to the speed of the WP8 phones are the flagship phones, which are at least $200 on contract or $650 off. No thanks.
And hey, maybe I'll like the new phone, maybe not. The only way to know is to try, so I'm going to give it a try. I'm certainly not trying to convince anyone to switch, just thought my experience may provide value to others.

For sure. I'm sure everyone here appreciates you sharing your experience. I'll be curious to know what you think of WP8 when you finally get it.
OP, to be honest, i felt the same way after dealing with the x2. after all we had gone through, i was just fed up. i wanted a phone that would just... work. My opinion has changed completely since i switched. after the x2, i got a rezound. it too was plagued with similar issues, and dealing with the lack of support and bad battery i nearly bought an iphone.since i got a RAZR M, my opinion has nearly 180'd. with the snapdragon s4, all my issues with android had literally melted away. with jellybeans smooth butteryness, the improved battery life, and overall impressive features, i will never leave android. even on stock, i rarely ever have horrendous battery or any stuttering whatsoever. had i been in your shoes, i definately would have held out for the SGS4, with the snapdragon 600, battery and smoothness with only go up. now, everyone has their opinions, but it seems your opinion was a little to vague and blunt in judging android as a whole. <-- thats my opinion, if anyone is interested.
My 822 got here last night, I haven't had a chance to do too much to it yet, but I'll give you my first impressions:
1. Build - Polycarbonate body is fine except for the back cover, which feels like it is going to break when you pull it off. One thing you have to give Motorola is that their phones are built like tanks, with aluminum bodies.
2. Screen - Screen is an AMOLED screen. Decided I'm not a fan. Has very nice contrast, but the oranges/browns/red look butt-awful. The 840x480 screen is a actually a benefit for me, at least, because it causes the fonts to be rendered larger than they would be on the X2, and are easier on my eyes. Plus less pixels to push means better speed from the phone.
3. Speed - Whoo boy, does this thing FLY!
That's all I will report on for now, I need some time to customize/configure the device before I come to any conclusions regarding the usability of the OS and/or app issues.
For anyone interested in differences in a few apps comparing Android, iOS and WP:

Ok, so Ive had the new phone for a little over a week now, which I beilieve takes me past the "honeymoon" period, and here are my thoughts:
The metro interface is really starting to grow on me. When I first saw the live tiles I thought "Uggh!! that's just nasty". But they look much nicer on the phone than they do on a picture on the internet. Probably due to the high contrast AMOLED display.
I still dislike the nasty oranges/browns on the device, but I've mostly stopped noticing it now.
The device feels smaller than the X2, even though it has ostensibly the same size screen as the X2. In fact, I would probably prefer a slightly larger size to get a larger screen area.
The device is slick, and has fallen out of my hand a couple of times. Almost fell into the crapper once! Definitely getting a case for this.
The screen resolution differences are a non-issue IMHO.
The camera quality is about the same as the X2, maybe a little better. MUCH faster to start, though, no longer missing the moment waiting for the camera to start.
Speaking of the camera, holy hell is Cinemagraph a cool feature. It takes a picture along with 5 seconds of video, allowing you to create a moving snapshot effect, similar to the NFL player intros on TV or the moving pictures from the Harry Potter movies.
There has been some extra work getting things setup, as I still want to retain my google accounts, but once done it is seemless enough.
In terms of speed and usability this phone blows away any Android device I've ever used, (including my Nexus 7). There is simply no comparison in this department.
Nokia Maps and Drive are not quite as nice as the Google maps and Navigator, but still very good. Not really missing anything here.
As far as apps that I miss, there really isn't much. iHeartradio is probably the big one, and they have a WP7 app so a WP8 on is expected to be coming shortly. Nokia Music fills in for iHeartRadio for now. There are a few other apps missing, but IE10 does such a nice job with mobile websites that it's just not a big deal.
I am fast becoming a fan of Nokia. Their custom apps are fantastic, and they have shown a real commitment to improving WP8 along. Whereas with Motorola phones you get an outdated, buggy OS, bloatware, and few updates, Nokia apps are superb and they are continually adding cool new features to their phones. Motorola still probably has the edge in build quality, especially with the aluminum bodies. I want my phones to last a few years, so build quality does matter to me.
There are a few things that I would like to see added, like separate volume controls, the ability to pin individual settings to the start menu, and a webkit browser, but these are relatively minor issues.
The apps are definitely fewer than what is available on Android. But the quality of the apps is significantly better as well. They are almost universally more polished and beautiful than their Android counterparts.
Overall I am loving this phone. Especially since I got it in new condition for under $200 bucks.
As I was reading Engadget yesterday I saw a couple of articles, one on the Broid Bionic finally getting upgraded to Jelly Bean, and the other one on how the HTC One bootloader is going to be locked for AT&T, I realized just how much crap one has to deal with on an Android phone. I will NOT miss any of this.
For those who contributed to the development on the X2, my sincerest thanks. You helped make a crap phone more bearable.
I may peruse the X2 forums from time to time for nostalgia's sake, but otherwise I think I won't be coming here much more. Best of luck to all of you, and hopefully DZK can get you a nice bug-free Jelly Bean build some day.

Thank you for the review. I chose the dx2 for the lack of a call termination beep. As in other Moto's at the time. And these beeps are always passed to a Bluetooth headset. My iphone 4s does the same damn thing.
What about the Nokia?
I just tried this, when the caller hangs up you get a triple beep. I don't know about over bluetooth, though.
I actually like this feature.
I use the Plantronics Voyager Pro HD and it is very loud because the dynamic range not compressed and this tone is much louder than the voices.
I also notice that the tone is much louder ( iphone ) when it is a Vzw phone terminating on the other end- strange.
