[Q] Wired Tether - Atrix 4G Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I apologize if this has already been covered but I haven't seen anything really for this. What is the best way to do a wired tether on the atrix.

newbie looking for hotspot info

Hi all, simple question for the experts here. We have a new Fascinate phone and I just recently got an iPad 2 that I would like to tether to the phone as a hotspot (for free if at all possible).
I don't want to root the phone because quite frankly, this isn't a huge issue for us and I don't want to screw it up. I am simply asking if other methods work for activating the hotspot without root? I am not interested in wired tethering because this is for the iPad.
I see the QPST hack posted on a couple of forums...does that work? Is it as easy as it sounds? I also saw on a few Droid X forums something about a 4636 code and airplane mode? Does that work on the Fascinate?
If nothing works besides rooting, that is fine. Just wanted a final confirmation.

[Q] USB GPS support for the GTablet?

I have a USB GPS receiver and was curious if anyone was able to get it to work on the GTablet. I'm running Vegan 5.1.1.
I was wondering the same thing. I have an external GPS recevier hooked up to my gtab running TNTL 4.4.0.
The GPS shows that is receives power by glowing blue.
A GPS Status app just sits there spinning. Do we have to enable the USB port?
-Steve.
I have tried but with no real success. I did get it reading via ttyUSB0. But I can't figure how to get android to use the data. build.prop isn't enough and there is also a GPS.conf file but I think there is some service not getting started. I have considered writing a fake surrogate like they do Bluetooth.

I think some people around here have had luck with a bluetooth GPS receiver, I don't recall anyone saying they have used a USB one.

Indeed. No one I know as of yet has managed to be able to successfully use USB GPS receivers with the Viewsonic gTablet but I know that external BlueTooth GPS Receivers as well as using ShareGPS on an android powered phone with GPS does in combination with Bluetooth GPS Receiver on the Viewsonic gTablet (personally tested on TnT Lite 4.4.0 with some problems, no problems on VEGAn 5.1.1, and not-tested-as-of-yet on VEGAn GingerEdition).
Thanks for the input.
I've seen the success folks have had with bluetooth...just I don't expect to be using my Gtablet enough for navigation to warrant buying one.
Of course, since I posted this, I can't for the life of me find the USB receiver anyway.
So, it's about a year later.. Anything new on this, or should I just kill myself now, as the video made me feel like i should, for being a noob? lol
If you can get it reading via ttyUSB0, try installing USBGPS4Droid, everything will just work fine

Tether Gtab to phone for internet access? is it possoble?

Just wondering if its possible to take your droid phone and tether it to the Gtab like you can with a laptop in order to get online.
You need to download the drver for the pc to get something like pdanet to work, so not sure about this

Sure. For Android phone, tons of apps on Google market can let it become Wifi hot spot. Then your gtab can pickup wifi signal to connect to internet. You can check <G Tablet Themes and Apps> section on xda-developers.com.

If you search this forum for wifi tethering, you will find a lot of information on different ways to accomplish this. A little reading goes far here, redundant posts do not. You can find Search field on the top right...
Did search, didnt really find a useful answer.
I have pdanet on droid x2 and am able to connect laptop to internet.
I tried connecting phone and tablet with bluetooth and no luck.
Since I dont have a micro usb to mini usb cable to connect the two to try that im asking if it works. Only cable like that I found was on ebay from hong kong
You will need to do WiFi tethering, not bluetooth or USB.
It seems to do WiFi tethering, if you don't have native phone support you have to root and use one of the apps that provide ad hoc support. I have read all the bluetooth stuff and no one seems to get it working.
Wireless Tether and Barnacle Wireless Tether
I used both of these apps on my rooted Droid X to create wi-fi hotspots and connect my gTabs to them without having to do anything special. I've used VEGAn 5.1.1 and VEGAn Ginger as well as the CyanogenMod 7.0.3 (Stable release) and it's worked with all of them.

[Q] Photon Wifi tethering Issues?

Hey all, I'm new here, and just rooted my Photon yesterday thanks to help from this forum. Having some problems with the WiFi tethering connecting to my Wii and PS3, been able to connect to my computers with no problem tho. I've done some research and see that it's due to the AdHoc aspect of things.
I'm just curious if anyone has found a way around this?
How did you set up tethering?
I have tried all the tricks I can find in the forum, and still no luck. My computers can see the Photon, but there is no throughput.

WI FI Issues
I'm using Wi Fi tether with no problems as long as I leave it unsecured but when I try to secure it won't work. Any suggestions?

[Q] Bluetooth and GPS

I haven't seen a firm answer yet, so question. Is activating bluetooth/gps a hardware mod, software/rom, or not possible on NT?

Nobody knows for sure yet because it hasn't yet been done and published. In theory bluetooth can be activated by software though. I'd venture to guess the same is true for GPS.

Both could potentially be "activated", because the chip does support it... but that doesn't mean that it will be worth anything. The GPS almost certainly does not have an antenna on it, and the BT range will likely be crap like on the NookColor for the same reason (no antenna.)
So, the GPS even if we get it working, will still be useless for its intended purpose, while the BT might be able to get working for a very-short-range. (2~3 feet?)

I would venture that when the bluetooth is enabled, we'd be able to use the fm radio app cause it uses the headphone cable as an antenna. But isn't 2-3 feet ok for a bluetooth ear piece so you can skype or googletalk with it?

Could the gps also use headphones as an antennae?

There is only three ways to know.
1. Build a custom rom that supports GPS and Bluetooth, then try it out.
2. Wait till the devs build you a custom rom, and find out.
3. Consult your crystal ball. =]
Heck,
the only reason why I want bluetooth enabled is do I can use a bluetooth keyboard. (which I know they where able to do with the Nook Color)
I want to use my ps3 controller to play emulators like I do with my phone. It would be such a better experience on the 7" then on my Epic 4G.

I would REALLY like this also. Add in a bluetooth webcam and I am an overly happy kid!

Sadly there is just no way to know until an alpha of CM9 is out for the NT. They are very close, so it shouldn't be long now. Once that's done, we will have have facts instead of speculation.
I want to build a bluetooth airplane and control it with my NT of doom!!!!!!!
Thanks all for the responses. I personally want to see if we could use pre-cached google maps and use the NT as for some low level gps navigation without a tether to a smartphone.

would love to se BT work, I have two of these: "pharos-pocket-gps-navigator: and it would be great for the vehicle. Sorry, new to this forum and it will not let me post links.
