[Q] Phone Not Receiving Text Messages - XPERIA X10 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hi,
I have been having a recurring problem where my phone will not receive text messages and then randomly after maybe two weeks will receive them all in one go and then work for a little while and stop receiving them again.
I am running the latest official 2.1 release rooted and de branded with JIT enabled. This was also happening on my original 1.6 software and worked for over a month when I upgraded.
I called my provider (3) and they recommend a software reset which works however I don't want to keep doing this. Is there a way to reset the network settings or something or does anyone know a way to fix this problem even temporarily or permanently.
All help is appreciated.
Regards,
Vijay Pather.

this will remove only apps installed from the market and third party apps also your contacs it will not remove your photos videos and music from your sd card you can to make a backup from your contacts this way go to contacts push menu-import/export-export to sd card it will create a vcard in your sd for restore follow the same steps contacts-import/export-import from sd card and for your aplications you can use appmonster free from the market is very intuitive just select the app and it will shows a window and then select backup to sd remember the hard reset will not erase nothing in your sd card i hope that solves your problem

im having the same problem. i wasnt able to recieve any text messages, but the thing is, text is completely lost. its getting me pissed.

So does anyone know if I can reset the network cause if I put my sim into another phone it still won't receive them!

Have u checked the messaging number used by your sim card to send and recieve messages. I some how managed to mess mine up. But by putting the sim in a mobile broadband dongle on the correct network it allowed me to change the number saved on the sim card back to the correct message centre.

Question: Messages on SIM Card

Is it possible to disable text messages on the sim card from appearing in the Messages folder without having to delete them?

Hmmm... are you sure this is the right forum to ask this?
i am using WM6....and the messages on the SIM card never appeared in WM5...so i think this is the forum i should be asking the question on? the ROM is PDAVIET 4.0.0.3 if that helps as well
Not sure if this is the right forum to ask too but I am also facing similar issues and haven't been able to find anything relevant despite trawling the forums here and elsewhere.
Here's specifically what I am experiencing:
- SMS that are saved in my SIM are getting loaded (and reloaded with each soft reset or power off/on)
- these SMS are loaded with a current timestamp (i.e. they are always current) hence often new incoming SMS are getting pushed back on the list
- this is getting really irritating as I always have to scroll back to see the latest SMS
I don't remember seeing this on WM5 and in fact I thought I remembered that there was no easy built-in method to load SMS that are saved on the SIM.
Short of deleting those SMS (which I would really like to keep on the SIM), I would really appreciate it if someone could let me know if there's a way to stop those SMS from getting loaded from the SIM.
Am currently using WM6 on HTC Hermes (Dopod 838 Pro).

[Q] Rooted cm7 Not Recieving Calls!!!

Rooted my aria a week or so ago and have been enjoying the possibilities and freedoms!
A couple days ago, my phone stopped receiving calls. Someone please help me! I've looked all over at threads involving the same damn issue to no avail. Seems as if noone has a solution.
The first thing I'd try is to put your SIM card into another phone to see if you are able to receive calls. It could be an issue on the carrier's end.
If the SIM card is working fine, you can try taking a Nandroid backup and then doing a clean install of CM7, then rebooting. (Make sure to do wipe data/factory reset, format /system, and wipe dalvik cache before installing to make sure it's a completely clean install.) If the phone can receive calls after a clean install, then there's something in your software/settings that is causing it to not work. That can give you an idea where to start looking for problems (or you might consider just continuing with the clean install instead of trying to figure out what was wrong with the old install).
If the phone cannot receive calls after a clean install, it might be a hardware problem. At that stage I'd try reverting back to the original Android 2.2.2 ROM (unrooted) to see if it works with that.
Good luck.
Okay I did these steps but I installed a backup that I made earlier today. There is still no sign of phone receiving calls other than voicemail. I didn't put sdcard in another phone, I'm sure that's not the issue since I can make calls and send, receive texts. I'm guessing that I will have to erase all my apps and reinstall them one by one. Does anyone know of any apps that interfere with calling? I've already uninstalled Skype.

I had this problem a while back. It seems to be AT&T's network in my case though. It rarely happens any more, but still happens from time to time. Try flashing another nightly. If that doesn't work, clean the contacts on the back cover at the bottom with a q tip and iso alcohol.

Is the messaging centre no. correct? it may be just something that needs to be resolved via your network, so prob best to ring your network and see if they have any solutions before concluding that it may be something to do with the phone? Hope it helps!!
I have same problem but I can't receive sms after update on 2.3.6. I tried with another radios, hard reset, another sim card but problem still exists...

Here's a discussion on the SMS issue on the official Motorola forums and it seems that many of us seem to be facing and most of the time it seems to be caused by updating your phone's firmware while with your sim card still inside of your phone, and this seems to cmpletely disrupt
The way that your phone communicates with your sim card, resulting to delays in smses, I've just got a new sim card today and it does seem to solve the issue of retrieval and sending delays but I'd save my quick conclusion for a more thorough speculation Hope this helped!

A user posted this:
@all of you facing this sms problem
here is a workaround to get rid of the issue till motorola comes up with a convincing and permanent solution.
Step 1. remove sim from the handset (if u dont have the sms problem). it does not matter whether the sim is inside the phone or not if you are already facing sms problem as you will have to get a new sim after the update (the issue would persist with any update till you get a new sim)
Step 2. update to latest version
Step 3. perform a hard reset if updating from GB to ICS. if you are updating to battery performance bug fix on ICS (like the one from .324 to .328 AsiaRetail) only clearing the cache should suffice.
Step 4. reinsert the sim (if you never had sms problem before update). GET A NEW SIM (IF YOU HAD SMS PROBLEM BEFORE THE UPDATE)
FOR ALL THOSE WHO HAVE ALREADY UPDATED AND FACING THE ISSUE, PLEASE GET A NEW SIM AND IN FUTURE DONOT UPDATE OR RESET WITH THE SIM INSIDE THE PHONE.
PLEASE REMEMBER, THIS FIX IS NOT PERMANENT. MOTOROLA IS YET TO COME UP WITH A PERMANENT FIX SO THAT WE NEED NOT WORRY ABOUT OUR SIM.

Will that solve the problem? Anyone tried this?
I'm using MIUI, I can install the same version to try to fix the problem, right?

S3 - suddenly Mobile network not available

I have a Samsung S3 GT 19300.
Purchased in Hong Kong. Using China Unicom, and I have a monthly plan, fully paid up.
It is stock - I have not rooted it.
Suddenly, about 3 days ago, I started having problems with it connecting to the network. I ignored this issues because I was on vacation, and roaming ... so I thought it was due to the roaming.
I'm back home now, and I can not make any calls.
When I call out, the phone:
- sometimes doesn't connect to the network - the call doesn't go through at all
- sometimes dials the other end, but there is no sound between the two phones. When that happens, the phone connection lasts about 15 seconds, and then the Samsung phone shows the network as not available, with the circle with a slash through it, and says "Mobile
network not available".
I've rebooted many times.
I've took out the SIM card, and put it back in.
I've checked the firmware - and the firmware is current.
I've disabled JuiceDefender Ultimate
Strangely, I CAN send data thru the network, but can not receive or make calls.
I also found out that WHILE I CAN SEND / RECEIVE data (internet), FourSquare can not identify where I am...
Suggestions?
actually it seems like a problem with your network\sim card.
i'd try first to ask other users under the same network if they experience problem and replace the sim card
Backup Data factory reset ..
Try with a different sim card are the usual first steps .

I forgot to update my post.
I used a friend's SIM - which is on the same network (China Unicom) as my SIM card is ...
I had the exact same problems.
One of my friends tells me I should re-install a ROM ... What do you think?
QUESTIONS:
Should I try to root the phone?
I ask because (a) it's not yet
(b) I want to back it up, and understand Titanium Backup to be the best ... but that needs to be rooted.
FINALLY - how woulld you back it up? I hate losing data.
I have a huge DROPBOX account ... but don't see a great way to use that to back it up.
Thanks.
i've a similar problem but with sms..

If it's within guarantee then just take it back to the store. Sounds defective and rooting would void your warranty on a faulty device. You'd probably find that rooting and a custom rom would not help anyways.
My $0.02 is take it back to the store, but back up your setting to Samsung drive thing. It backs up message too.

[Q] Can not recieve SMS, Can send

I'm unable to recieve SMS messages. I can't receive them under any circumstances. I'm currently on shostock2, but I've also tried Aberration and no luck there either.
As said, I can't receive messages, but I can send them. I also am able to use the data connection and make/receive calls.
The things I've tried are:
Delete mms app data
delete all messages
Send myself a message (doesn't receive)
Tried GO SMS app
Made sure auto receive is on in app
Factory Reset ROM
Flash another ROM
Tried the newest Siyah kernel
Also I've contacted ATT and went through the troubleshooting steps they want wanted. I obviously don't know what they were trying on their end, but nothing was working there either. They gave me a resolution date of the 22nd, which is a bit longer than I'd like to wait.
So, any ideas folk? I'd really like to get messaging back!!!
Full wipe + format system + format data.
Don't restore from TiBu.
And try...

Had the same issue earlier. What worked for me was taking out the sim and putting it in a different phone real quick then swap it back in. When I rebooted I had all my messages. Hope this helps
