Help data2sd - XPERIA X10 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Tried to install data2sd but only looping and moved the file from recovery to root worked but then the file are in the wrong place...will it work then?
I dont really understand why the img is in recovery if it should where in root.
I installed in recovery so it go there by itself.

anyone???
Nobody ho can tell me how to get this working?

What Rom did you try to install it on.
Might be worth starting again, flash Rom then the apps, then flash d2SD and only reboot at the end.
Oh and clear system, dalVik, battery and partion too

Check out the quadrant benchmark score guide in my signature. It'll help you out with data to sd. And like droid carp said. Your rom should be the one which supports it.
Cheers!

CyanogenMod_6.1.2-Xtremes this is my rom and the best i had so far
I saw other install this a bit after instal rom so i tried but it will not work.but i dont want to change rom this is so good.
But i can back it up and se try if i got it working then.

Yeah try backing it up and then start a fresh and see how it goes. So basically put all the rom stuff into the root of your SD, put the d2sd into your root,. clear caches, partitions, wipe Dalvik, wipe battery then install rom+apps then d2sd. Then reboot.
if youve moved the img from recovery, it sounds like youve done it the wrong way round. IIRC and someone will correct me, the img is just an picture of your back up. you can effectively delete your backed up roms by removing the image.

tried install 3 new roms but only loping all the time.....now last time loop for 1 hour i give up i have followd the guide and its not working

Try wolfbreaks Rom, works for AdY and me, install as wolf says, but install d 2SD after you've done the gapps install, then boot wait let it reinstall and let the choppy d2SD settle in,.
Failing that I can only suggest you check you do a repair through seus and start the process again.

Why is full wipe needed for root?

So every time I wanna try out a new rom I always go back to stock just because it makes me feel better to start from scratch. But every time I do I have to do a complete wipe on my sd card before I can root. The update.zip file will still be there but I can't root unless I completely wipe the sd then reinstall the update.zip file. Any one know why that is necessary? It gets annoying having to either lose all my data or transfer it to my computer.

You dont have to wipe your SD card to root. Heck if you have the update.zip for clockwork you dont even have to root your phone again just reinstall packages twice and you will be in clockwork. Once you flash the ROM from there you'll have root (considering ofc that the ROM you flash is rooted).
You do NOT have to go back to stock everytime... read my guides. You really only need to do that if you have issues with the new rom. It takes me 30 minutes max to go from one rom to another and be set back up like normal (this includes downloading the rom).

So are you saying that even if I don't see the superuser app im still rooted if I can get into recovery from the stock rom? Id feel like an idiot if this whole time I was deleting and transferring files for no reason this whole time lol

You don't need root to load clockwork recovery, I often leave the update.zip for clockwork on my sd card and when I odin back to jfd I then reinstall packages from recovery, get into clockwork recovery and choose the zip I want to flash
I usually use z4 root when I need to root my phone on Eclair.
Im an idiot. I was only looking for the superuser app to know if im rooted or not

[HOWTO] Install Mik's CM 7 Gingerbread port for Dummies

DUMMIES, FOLLOW THIS STEPS TO INSTAL MIK_OS GINGERBREAD CYANOGENMOD 7 PORT:
FIRST OF ALL GO HERE AND READ MIK's POST and thank Mik for his work!!!!!!!!!!!!
READ THE CHANGELOGS AND THE KNOWN BUGS!!!!!
Let's suppose you have Froyo on your device and want to go Gingerbread:
- you need: root, custom recovery, and rom zip from here
- boot into recovery, go to backup/restore and do a backup. For your own privet safety, you could use TitaniumBackup before booting into recovery to backup your files and settings.
- while in custom recovery, go to wipe and perform all wipes. WIPE DATA AND CACHE IF YOU ARE UPGRADING FROM FROYO! Go to adb shell and make a /system wipe (mount /system in recovery; adb shell rm -rf /system/*), or copy this file on sd, and flash it via cusom recovery to automatically wipe your /system data
- after the wipe, put your rom on the sd card - get the beta2 here , and flash it from custom recovery.
- wait until it boots up and set the phone up. If you're stuck on LG logo it means you didn't performe the wipes corectly, mainly the system wipe.
- you will have no google apps after the install, so go here and get them, or manually download them from market
- you now have Mik_os unofficial CyanogenMod 7 2.3.3 on you phone. Install TitaniumBackup and perform a restore if you used this metod to backup your data as i described in the second step.
Now, if you have an older version of Mik's CM7:
-boot into recovery and flash the newer version just like that. It will update the one you have on your device, and no data will be lost.
GO AGAIN TO THE OFFICIAL DEV THREAD AND RE-READ THE BUGS AND CHANGELOGS. AND AGAIN... THANK MIK FOR HIS WORK!!!!!
If you have questions about Mik's port, go to the correct thread and ask them! This is not a developer thread, it is just for info, or for those of you who are new to xda and cannot post in dev threads.
AND AGAIN, THANK MIK FOR HIS WORK, AND BUY HIM A LOLLYPOP VIA PAYPAL.
I have tried your steps but could not install this ROM. It got stuck on the boot animation. An it wasn't CM7 animation. Tried few times but without any luck. Now i am back to my old rom. atleast i did not brick my phone but i will sure give it a another try
You are probabily stuck at the lg logo. You should try to wipe the system manually, by adb or flashing the zip I linked in the original post, in the third step. I had the same problem, but this solves it.

I wasn't stuck on LG Logo. I had Megatron installed, it went through LG logo, then got stuck Megatron's Android Logo. Seems the rom was never installed properly and i have tried few times.
I have wiped everything, i have flashed from the zip you provided, and also i re-partitioned the sd card but it never worked
Did you got any errors when flashing cyanogen zip? From what you said, I think you shoul rewipe everything, part the sd 0 swap, ext 2 to ext3 and ext3 to ext 4. Make sure that you have the check for signed option in custom recovery.

I have done all of the above, may be the zip file got corrupted. Anyway, i will try again this weekend. thanks
How did you do the system wipe? You flashed the zip for wipeing or did you do it from adb shell?
I have another friend that flashed the /system wipe tool, and forgot to flash the actuall rom zip file, and had the exact simptomes as you described.

I used custom recovery, nandroid back up, then re-partition the sd card. then wiped the card, then usb toggle to copy 2 zips on to sd card. flashed debug system just in case and then flashed mik's rom. I don't know where did it go wrong.
Would have been great if someone made a step by step video and put that on youtube

Yes, I think so. Don't worry about it for the moment. if it worked for you, it will work for me too. I may have missed something that i can't remember. I will give it a try again this weekend
Although if you could give me the Partition requirements. I know the swap should be zero. But how much should i use for ext2?
Ext partiton can be how big you want, it's where a2sd puts the files and other cache info. I use 512 mb, and works flawless.
I will make a video guide in the morning, and link it in the original post.

Do I need to install that new recovery? Or is the one you posted a link to OK?
There is a new recovery that's been in the development forum for a few weeks that says it's for gingerbread.

The link i posted goes to another thread that explains some basic stuff. Including the recovery. But i didn't find any problems using different versions of custom recovery. So go for which one you like more, as long as it can backup your system
1. go in recovery mode
2. wipe everything
3. then go to others
4. mount/system
5. flash the system zip
6. flash the rom zip
7. reboot
it worked for me. hope it helps
Ruwin buddy, you will be happy to know that i am using Mik's rom. I still don't know what went wrong last time. If some thing that i had done differently, that would not upgrading ext3 to ext4.
Thanks buddy for the support and the tips
Thank you very much!!! Will try this today.
Is it possible to get the SMS widget back? The simple one from Market sucks...
Do I need to partition the SD-card?? The directions made no mention of this.
how to enable 3G mode only in this rom ?
Good work, very useful.

[Q] n00b question about A2SD, CM7 beta3, and widgets

hi
i recently flashed the CyanogenMod 7 beta3 found here
I have an issue with my apps, prob. due to the a2sd stuff. i can't see most of my app's widgets, including the messaging widget. maximum annoyance!! when i put other apps such as facebook in the phone memory, the widget appears in the selection screen, but the messaging app was and is in the phone memory all the time..
HELP WILL BE EXTREMELY APPRETIATED
also, i'm planning to make a vid about flashing the cyanogenmod rom to a phone. who's with me!
i'm having problems with darktremor's a2sd too, it seems to be that it's unable to mount/recognize /sd-ext... i've just backed up with TB, re-partitioned and wiped everything, let's see if a fresh flash enables CM 7 b3/a2sd to recognize /sd-ext -.-"
it keeps gettin stuck at the cyanogenmod animation... it's getting me mad!
there was no way for me to get dt's a2sd working on cm7b3... -.-"

Look at the CM7 thread, in the first post is the solution to your problem, you just need to flash a .zip before flashing CM7..

I think it is native to the system, at least you are able to move apps..
Correct me if i'm wrong
Am I the only one that the choise of the keybord is not stored between reboots?? can someone test please?
(using smartkeyboard pro)
Moved the app to phone memory and worked fine, my bad!
Well, these actions may help you guys "am not sure":
-When installing a widget in CM7, never move it to SD card, it will be only recognized when it's located at phone memory.
-When installing CM7 itself, don't partition your SDcard, just format it using PC or any utility and install CM7 using recovery "so it won't stuck".
-if the stuck thing still happening, download from CM7 topic a Wiper file which will wipe your system setting if wiping is not working on your O1.

I did the partition but flashed the Wiper file, worket fine!
Is thera any way to flash CM7beta4(when it's released) and keep all the apps and configs?
EDIT: Sorry, wrong thread.
When i connect the phone to USB, the widget crash, and also the apps i have to move it to SD because they installing in the phone memory. Dont recognize the Partition.
Sorry for my English.
question
my messaging app (stock) is in my memory, and i can access it, but i cannot access the messaging widget. CAN ANYONE HELP?
I'm not that noob, I can follow instructions, I erased /system using adb, and flashed cm7 many times, partitioning (needs to be done to get darktremor's a2sd working) and flashing a2sd every time, it's just that this time just didn't work... I flashed again doing a "fresh install" and got cm7 to load, but there's no way to get a2sd working... Using "native" cm7's a2sd doesn't just move apps to fat32 partition?

If you already have cm7 on the device, flashing the rom's zip file from recovery should be enough ;-)

[Q] How do I retain the configuration?

Hi, I've signed up for an account quite a while ago since I was on HTC Tattoo, but this is my first post because I've gotten really desperate here but I couldn't figure out what has been wrong.
I've done searching around xda-developers and tried Googling. I have an Xperia mini pro SK17i and here's my problem:
What I've done:
1. I've unlocked its bootloader.
2. Flashed Rage Kernel (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1398910).
3. Using CWM included after flashing Rage Kernel, I flashed Hybrom V6 (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1373435).
4. Before this I partitioned my SanDisk Mobile Ultra 32GB Class 6 microSDHC for sd-ext (27.7GB of FAT32 and 4.06GB of ext2).
5. Installed Titanium Backup.
6. Yay, from Titanium Backup I could see that a2sd is enabled.
Then came the problem:
7. I POWERED OFF my device.
8. Pulled its battery out.
9. Put it back in.
10. Turned the phone back on. When it's at the homescreen, Titanium Backup is gone.
11. So, I installed Titanium Backup again. But this time, I can't see a2sd's remaining free space, means it's not enabled?
12. So, I went ahead and rebooted into recovery, reflashed the rom again, and it all goes back to step 1.
While I was doing those, I tried checking whether a2sd was enabled each time, and it seemed that it was random. Sometimes enabled, then after a reboot, it got disabled, then I reflashed again and so on.
I'm really frustrated now. Any help is really appreciated!!
Try installing Hybrom v7 now
And when ever you flash your rom everything which is inside your SD card and was associated with system files will be of no use as you have to reassign it to system after you flash your rom
To solve this, when you think you have fully working system and now you want to keep it as backup to avoid reconfiguration when you reflash your ROM then make a backup of current working ROM for this
Reboot in recovery mode of CWM
Go in backup and restore
Make a backup of your ROM and you are done !
(This backup can be found on SDCARD/clockworkmod folder)
When you want to reinastall the "Same ROM" then you can use that created backup to get back to the status where you made backup. So there is no need to reinstall software and no need to make settings again.
This backup creates MD5 check sum so it can't be used for any versions of ROM.Use it with same version of ROM.And you will get ex-sd back as you mod in before back up.
I hope you got what i said ... cause when ever you completely flash the ROM and start it freshly you will have to go to step 1 as you said and do all things again so backup is good way to avoid this frustration and problem
And because of that sd-ext will not work...
Thx for the advice.
But I still can't get a2sd to work.
I connected my device to my computer, then I via adb shell I typed
a2sd check
everything seems to be okay except that sd-ext is not mounted. :'(
What should I do to get it to work?
I managed to get a2sd working consistently.
What I did was to partition my sdcard and format it separately.
Whenever I did a wipe data/system/cache CWM would wipe and format the sd-ext partition too, because of this, upon flashing a new ROM, a2sd would not be enabled.
But now I have another problem, I would love to move dalvik-cache to sd-ext, I tried doing it with:
#a2sd cachesdreset
then it reboots my device, but it ended up in a bootloop.
What should I do next?
I found out another issue. Everytime I pulled the battery out, my Xperia mini pro would fail to mount sd-ext.
THEN I would have to first do:
# a2sd repair
then the device reboots, then:
# a2sd reinstall
then it would get a2sd back again. But this time, all of the settings for the apps on sd-ext are lost.
i don't know bro
sorry

[Q] how to get out of bootloop on s 2

first time i install cm10.1 nightly on s2 i9100, there was no prob...then flashed pacman rom ..was a little glitchy and slow.
So moved on to paranoid android..this is where the prob started... it keeps on bootlooping :?
Right now flashed stock 4.1.2 via odin and rooted with siyah kernel s2 v6 0.5b ..works fine
but if i flash any custom ROM it bootloops ,even with the prior cm10.1 that i had..
checked xda , did a lot of work but still stuck at square one..{wiping this , wiping that}
only thing i can find fault with is in recovery when wiping data says
Format/sdcard/.android_secure ..fail
skip Format
Format completed
when trying to intsall from sdcard it says
E:/ cannot mount..
tried different cwm recovery .. all with the same findings..
so please help me.. its boring to be stuck with stock ROM..
i am a doctor ..i tried but couldnt follow running SDK and commands ..so please keep it simple
or if possible publish a video.. bcause iam not the only one with this predicament...during my research i found a lot android users with the same problems..
Thanks

n the solution given in that thread 1. is to flash a stock rom.. 2. flashing villain rom but the download links are not working..
i think it has do with fail to format .androidsecure thing but what do i know?
again thanx..

also backup all ur internal memory data to a pc and then format your Internal memory from within the rom
You could try using a couple of wipe scripts by a guy called hawkerpaul....I think they're called 'romwipe' and 'kernelwipe'.......
Use the XDA search function....should be easy enough to find.
It may be that there are some 'leftovers' following the usual wipes (cache, dalvik and data) that are causing conflicts with your fresh installs.....
The above mentioned scripts perform a more in depth wipe....might help.....

i have tried that GS2ROM wipe and nuke scripts already, with no luck ... yes that runs bigger wipe but it still fail to format sdcard .andoidsecure
i think it has do with renaming of the sdcard{silly doubt when recovery states sdcard , it doesnt refer to extsd right?} from sdcard to sdcard0 while installing CM10.1,,
if i could safely erase that {.andoidsecure}, probably things will back to normal .. anyone know how to
oh iam not able to use install from sdcard option in recovery(formerly before flashing any ROM i was able to..i hav to install from "internal memory"
Again iam grabbin at random bcause i want to go bac to custom ROMs. .if any of sounds untechi ..let me remind u i am just , what do they call it.. a noob and i do apologise...

There those are all the cards ...someone please solve the puzzle...
hey i can install custom roms again
1.formatted extsd and usb storage{after making back up of course} in storage setting in ROM
2.in recovery : Mount emmc
