I wanted to know why all the devs are now using the 2.2.1 version. What is the point of porting Froyo when GB is already out? Also, why is 2.2.1 better than the older versions of Froyo? I've searched around and can't really find anything discerning 2.2.1 from older versions. TY!
b/c
b/c a stable 2.3 has not been developed yet. the 2.2.1 isn't all the way there yet either, however it's much, much more functional and will probably be stabilized much sooner than any 2.3 rom. I say probably b/c of the new 2.3 leak that is coming to the international galaxy s soon, then hopefully the usa variants...
2.2.1 utilizes the full potential of our phone. Unlike 2.2
It's more stable and 2.2.1 was specially built FOR Galaxy S Series.
From what I've read not even the current 2.2.1 roms out there utilize the GPU acceleration, or not well anyway.

2.2.1 comes from the i9000 whereas 2.3 is only available on the nexus s. Although both those phones are similar to the vibrant the i9000 is much more similar.

Hey guys, been rooted ever since I got my eris, all the devs that have been working on both Froyo and 2.1 ROMS are awesome, don't know how you do what you do!
So here's my Question... When do any of you guys see a sense enabled froyo base rom? I have been switching between all the major froyo builds (tazz, kaos, celeb) and love the speed and reliability of them, but I personally like the stuff htc had done with the OS with the Sense UI. Right now I'm running EvilEris v.4, and that's working for me now, I was just wondering.
This post might do better in the general section, but everyone over here seems to know their stuff.
Thanks for any answers!!

I'm trying to port one, so if it works it will come soon.
I wish Ye luck with that. I'd like to help were I can, would be grateful. I wonder if you're doing a port from the legend or the desire?
I love SenseUI. But any Sense ROM that was 2.1 just lagged in certain areas on my phone. Would be awesome to see a Sense 2.2 ROM without any lag.
So far all of my port attempts have failed but the work continues. I personally can't stand sense ui but a froyo sense port would be sweet.

If I could make a suggestion could it be the espresso version of senseui(the one you like see on the MyTouch Slide), as I have found that to be a bit faster).
I'm also working on porting this... wish me luck!
It's great to see so many developers working on this. I'm hopeful to see one soon.

try Ivan's 1.0. I've had absolutely no lag and I've had over a month's worth of use on it all together.
until a developer comes out with the sense froyo you can alteast use the vatsense docks for launcher pro http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=743703
xtrSense will accomodate all of your needs and desires.
I like it better than AOSP Froyo ROMs. Cyanogen added features that only SenseUI had, to make AOSP Android better.
SenseUI > AOSP, and there isn't a WHOLE lot that Froyo Sense does that 2.1 xtrSense by zach.xtr doesn't already do. Just some things that he has to use apps for that Froyo has built in. No big deal.
is it part of the vibrant or the upcoming vibrant 4g?
is it better than ka7?

It's another leak for the standard vibrant. No one will ever be able to give you a clear answer on whether or not it's better. It's newer, so we just assume it to be better.
It is the leak for the newest modem from samsung firmware update.
I am using the ji5 because it seems to be faster on my phone compared to ka5, ka6, ka7 and kb1. Yup, I tried them all.
Hey guys I'm new to the fascinate forum I currently have a vibrant a friend is getting the fascinate and I'm trying to find the best rom for them. It doesn't need much flair. Just needs to be smooth and stable preferably a 2.2 rom. Thanks guys lemme know

It comes with stock froyo (2.2) but if you are looking for a custom ROM then you should check out this thread:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1090448
Those are the two most popular/stable custom 2.2 ROMs out there. I would read through the posts and form your own opinion. I use Evil Fascination but they are both very good. You should know that there is a high probability of a stable, fully functional custom 2.3 (gingerbread) ROM being released within the next couple of weeks.
Would love to see stable Gingerbread on my beloved Fascinate..
If the gingerbread radios are causing all sorts of problems can we just stick to froyo radios in like das bamf 2.0 and avoid the brick? im sorry if this is a dumb question but im not familiar with the functionality differences between the two if htey are even comparable at all?

Froyo based roms only work on Froyo based radios and GB based roms work only on GB based radio.

You're correct in your observation. I think the CM7 team jury rigged the froyo radio to work because no leaks were in play at the time.

Yes because technically the radio's are not Android version specific. Eventually when there is a stable GB radio (Which would technically just be an upgraded radio) CM7 will be built around that.
Longtime XDA flasher here. I've recently moved on to the GSIII and am going to be giving my beloved Vibrant to my 65-year-old Mom, who wants a touchscreen phone for easier dialing (LOL). She will not be using a data plan, so no need for working GPS, etc.
I'm looking for the most stable, fastest (without bloat) ROM available that will not cause me frustration when getting calls from her asking what a "force close" is!
Right now, I've got Chimera v1 on there. I was thinking of reverting back to maybe GB or even Froyo, but I really haven't kept up with the development in the past few months. So, any suggestions? Thanks!

I would definitely pick Bionix V 1.3.1 as one of the choices. That rom is amazing. I would definitely not go with ICS or JB since both are still developing and have bugs here and there. GB is kind of unstable. I would find a nice, stable Froyo ROM :good:

I agree with this ^^
I think that froyo would be your best bet,
There a quite a few stable roms to choose from in that department.
Something from Fish is always an awesome bet
bionix 1.3.1 BUT, there's a further development on it, its fishman's or fishmod Bionix 1.3.1. It is the most stable Vibrant rom, ever, imo.
Get a stable ROM that is either gingerbread or froyo

Agreed.
Even though ICS/JB is much faster and newer, froyo/gb is pretty simple and easy to use, less settings to mess around with, and its more basic to use than the newer versions. I had quite a though time just changing most of the settings in JB but in froyo/gb, it was much easier.
Being a smartphone, it can tough for even older people to use, but the only thing shes probably would need it how to use the touch-buttons, how to make a call, how to unlock the screen, and your good. Goodluck!
Stick with a 2.2 rom, don't want to leave mom with a phone that won't call 911.

Thanks, guys. I Odined back to official 2.2 and flashed Fishman's mod.

Cyanogenmod dev team just fixed the 911 issue. All cyanogenmod based roms after today's date should be great for everyday use. Fisherman's Mod is good too if you don't use a lot of apps, it is a Samsung based Tom and the filesystem can create tons of lag.
