I've had my Archos 101 for about two weeks, and now the screen won't turn on. The green LED turns on and I can hold down the power button for 10 - 15 seconds and the device will turn off. I've tried booting into recovery mode (power and + volume) but still nothing on the screen. Anyone seen this before or have any ideas on how to fix it?
Update: After a day I could start to see the screen a bit, however, it's not usable/readable. I was able to boot into recovery mode and do a reset, but that didn't help the screen issue. I'm returning the device to Archos for repair. On a brighter note, I bought a Xoom and I'm loving it. The Archos 101 will probably get passed along to the kids or wife, I can't go back to it after experiencing Honeycomb on the Xoom.

Hey,
Just got a g tablet this week and I've been playing around with trying to get VEGAn onto it.
After installing it from CWR, it rebooted to the boot screen (three parrots) and now it won't do ANYTHING. I can't even turn it off (holding down power for 10+ seconds doesn't do anything)
Has anyone seen this before? I see many threads about boot loop but I can't even get my tablet to turn off so I can reboot it into APX mode to use nvflash.
Should I just let it try to burn through the battery overnight and see what happens in the morning?
Just keep pressing the power button for 3 second of length, it will turn off
Yeah that usually does it, but this time it's stuck at the screen even if I hold the power button for minutes.
I guess I'll just wait to see if after having it shut off via draining the battery, it is in a usable state.
My tablet must have gotten itself in some very weird state.
After letting the battery drain, it came back to life this morning.
My G-Tablet was working great for the last 6 months, the day I bought it, I flashed it with Cyanogenmod 7. Last night I was listening to Pandora, while reading Manga. I set it down and went to sleep.
When I awoke the Tablet was off, still plugged into the AC adapter. And refused to boot. After trying to get into the recovery thinking somehow it bricked itself, I noticed the screen would flicker ever so dimly. So I ripped the back off and unplugged the power thinking maybe it's not really off, maybe it's locked.
Alright, so now after holding the power button down for about 30 seconds it starts booting, I see three birds, the words android, the Cyanogenmod logo and then it goes black. After about a minute of that, I assume it booted. Still starting at a completely black screen I pressed the volume button + and - and I hear the beep boop. Alright so it booted. Where is my VIDEO?
I hold down the power button for a minute, I press the volume buttons but no sound. Ok, it's off I'm guessing. Lets boot again. This time nothing, completely blank screen, until it gets to the Cyanogenmod Logo. The video comes on for about 3 seconds then off again. About 15 seconds later, it comes on and I see the android robot riding the skateboard for about 3 seconds, then black again. It again finishes booting, I play with the volume buttons and I get the beeps. But absolutely no video.
One other thing, is that while booting. It ALWAYS turns on the video for the little robot on the skateboard for 2-3 seconds.
Has anyone experienced anything like this before? I'm totally at a loss, I really hope the GPU is fine.
I miss my tablet
If it turns out to be a hardware problem you should have a year long warranty from viewsonic. Someone who has had experience with the warranty process will have to tell you whether or not they will deny your claim if it arrives with CM7 installed (I haven't dealt with them). If you are able to NV flash before sending the tablet back in you should be golden though.
Thanks for the advice Bret.
I had the tablet sitting on my desk, I booted it up, still a black screen but I could hear the volume beeps. I let it sit there for about an hour, running on battery. And wouldn't you know. The screen came on. It's been working perfectly so far, I can reboot, shutdown, let it sleep ect. Not a single problem. I would absolutely love to know if it was a software glitch, or what. Seems my GPU is fine, rocks 3d apps no problem.
But I know if I don't know what caused this, more then likely it'll happen again and I'll flip out.
Open your gTab up and reseat the cables going into the LCD panel.
You say you have been running CM7 for ~6 months? have you had to reflash you system at all in that time?
The reason I ask is that I have had issues of the system corrupting itself over time, and almost every time I had reflashed, everything seemed to go back to being fine. Who knows... maybe its time to do a backup and flush the system for good measure..
My 5.0 is hard bricked. Black screen, won't charge, won't turn on. When plugged into outlet or computer, still black screen.
I rooted it back in December with no problems until today. Decided to plug it into an outlet to charge it since battery was around 50%. After about 30 minutes, used it to check weather, etc., then I did a quick push of the on/off switch to turn off the screen. About 2 minutes later, went to turn it on and got the black screen. I decided to leave it plugged into an outlet for about 1 hour and still nothing.
Looking at other, similar, bricked posts for the 5.0, doesn't seem applicable to this completely dead device (wasn't installing a rom or doing anything unusual).
Any help is greatly appreciated.
Solved
I was able to fix the problem, without losing any data, by going into recovery. For others who may run into similar issues, I did the following:
Pressed the power and volume up key simultaneously for about 10 seconds until the SAMSUNG logo appeared.
Selected 'reboot system now' and pressed the home button.
Hello xda,
I have a problem with my TF201.
I never unlocked, rooted, or installed anything other than stock asus ROM and it's OTA updates.
Yesterday, my prime "crashed" : i had a weird graphical bug and nothing was responding, so i turned off my prime holing the power button.
After that, i couldn't boot it, it only vibrate and the screen stays black.
I've tried any reboot method i could find on the forum, the only response i get from my prime is vibrations, the screen never turn on :
2-3 sec on power : vibrate once,
10 sec on power : vibrates a bit longer
10 sec on power + volume down : same as above
I've also tried to do a "blind full wipe" : 10 sec on power + volume down, release, volume down once, volume up twice, still nothing.
At some point after trying some reboot method, my prime went crazy : it vibrated non stop for approximativly 15 min. I tried all button but nothing stopped the vibration.
The crazy vibration stopped and i'm now back to "normal" vibrating with screen still black.
Charging seems normal (orange led last night when i plugged it, green this morning).
i'll try to setup adb tonight, havn't had time to try to plug it to my computer yet.
What are my options here ?
[UPDATE] : nothing happen when i plug my prime to my computer.. it vibrates once, but that's it. Nothing appear in device manager.
I have the same problem as well with my ASUS, please let me know if you find a fix. I sent mine back to ASUS for fix and they said the LCD was bad and wanted $280 to fix. I ordered a LCD of ebay and fixed myself, however im still having the same problem which means ****ty ASUS diagnosed my problem wrong.
Thanks for answering.
No, i did not found any solution it still won't do anything but vibrate :/
If you find a fix please post it here !

It sucks that no one on this board can give any type of suggestions. I was actually looking on youtube and it said the black screens could be caused by dropping the tablet, it loosens the video cable. Causing the blackscreen. Im going to open up my tablet again this weekend and re-adjust the cables to see if it fixes anything.
I've had this G9 for about 2 years.
Slowly the screen has become unresponsive.
First you could turn the screen off with power button and back on and it would work.
Then it got to the point that you had to hold the power button for 10 seconds to reboot it.
Now nothing works.
Is this fixable? If so, how?
I'm a mechanical engineer so try to keep this in laymen's terms if possible.
Thanks in advance!
Try to check ribbon cable of touch screen connection and its contacts. Example for the same problem with screen ribbon cable: try to find "Android Tablet White Screen fix" on Youtube (I cannot post links to external resources).
