i broke my screen in my samsung vibrant..im trying to call my insarance. but before i do that i just want to make sure if asurion will replace it with a refurb phone. and what can you guys say about the replacement phone? can i still root it and install rom. or can i just replace the broken screen?

replacing the broken screen will be like $100 maybe more or less on e-bay. Pain in the ass...I would get your replacement, and you should be able to root/flash/everything....

Tnx for reply... so what s better to do just replace the screen by my self or call asurion and get a replacement. I check for a new screen online. Its about $150. And insurance deductable is $130. What do u recommend?

Depends how tech savy you are the easiest way is to have your ins do it. Yes with your replacement you will be able to root flash just like before so no problems there

i check the video on how to replace the screen and its hard cause u need to take everything out. i think i just call insurance less hustle... and now i know that i can still root the phone im getting. cause i heard that they willsend me a refurb phone and i dont know if its good for rooting and flashing roms.

I got more thing... when i send my to asurion do i need to flash it back to stock using odin?

I would even though the damage is not related. Just better to flash back so they can't complain about anything.

No insurance...game over dude. warranty does not cover stuff like that. You can try and sell it, or pay for the repair yourself.

Whatever! I called T-mo, if I had bought insurance, still would have cost me 130$ to get them to fix it. I called samsung and was quoted 161.25 to replace at factory shop in TX w/ 7 day turnaround.
But DIY is the route I'm going. Just found screen in stock at global direct parts 78.11$ each. only downside is min qty order = 2. http://www.globaldirectparts.com/Samsung-T959-LCD-Digitizer-p/smsng6085995.htm
HEY OP, wanna split the order w/ me? I'll order today and send as soon as it comes in. PM me quick!!!!
EDIT: Looks like odds are should order the cable too that normally gets broken during removal of old screen
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=844407
http://www.globaldirectparts.com/Samsung-T959-Motherboard-Flex-Cable-p/smsng6085890.htm 16.48 ea right now but again min qty = 2.
I saw that site.
But what would I need???
Someone told me I cracked the digitizer.
And I see a bunch of.different screens. Lcd this, and amoled that.
Some 75, some 500?????
Wtf is this mess.

OEM LCD Panel / Digitizer Assembly?

Anyone happen to know where I can source one of these? Aside from buying a bricked phone and swapping them... I can't seem to find any online, and yes I've tried searching. My i777 took a 4 foot drop and landed screen side down on tile floor (and I use the Neo Hybrid case)... glass didn't break but LCD panel doesn't illuminate/show anything and it seems the assembly is 'all in one' and I can't get the LCD panel separately.
happened to my galaxy s1
well, you can find most parts at globaldirectparts.com but to my knowledge it's out of stock
I think you should try to contact them and see if they can back order any
EDIT: since it's still 1 year you can send it to Samsung to replace it. same price or less and better servicing

I'm not the original owner, though. Hmm... I'd have to check it out. How would I go about doing that?

Dropped mine from about 1 foot on pavement. Cracked, but it still works. Been like this since Dec, I was waiting for the prices to go down but they are going up.

Thanks for the tips. I'm gonna give them a call tomorrow. I had sensitive information stored on the internal memory, but I was able to blindly tap through and mount the phone on my pc and grab it off - so I'm going to take the lazy approach and see if they'll fix it. It's an easy fix, but if they'll fix it for cheaper then I may as well send it to them.
Perfect. Been needing a screen for months.

buy warranty and get new phone?

Is there anything stopping people from getting the AT&T warranty, pretend they lost their phone so they can get another one for 200?

yes it's called your imei will be flagged so it won't work and or so they know you lied. Than you go to jail for insurance fraud. Have fun!

So how would that stop someone from actually doing it? If the reason they claim said "lost" phone is due to them dropping and breaking it, they likely aren't gonna want to use the old one anyway. Sounds more like a way to avoid having to pay full retail price for a replacement rather than a way to have two working devices both for the same price.
Cept you could always get a replacement for what was claimed a lost phone, which then "turns up a few weeks later." only way to screw up is leaving on the lost phone while the replacement is on the way.

just do a screen replacement. much cheaper. take apart and replace the LCD screen. go here for the parts http://www.repairsuniverse.com/htc-rezound-screen-replacements-repair-parts.html
I would wrap it up, kick the box a couple good times and send it back not using FedEx, use other option. You don't know what happened after it was mailed back.

Doubt that will work. you think if I told them my story would understand and allow me to send the cracked one back.
Also I already had the screen replaced once but it ended up in the person who fixed it screwed up the capacitive lights and did not seal screen on tight enough so dust got behind the screen.

So funny you posted this, we have a thread for stuff like this. Can be found here - http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1872651
Verizon wont let me do that. I just talked to them. SO I got a better idea! File a claim with asurion (how ever you spell that) and say my phone got "stolen" so they will have to give a new phone with everything. I pay the $100 they give me phone with battery, charger, memory card and I sell mine the one I said got "stolen" on ebay for $100 and technically I will have my money back.

Doesn't Verizon put a bad ESN(I think that's it) so that its unusable for service? Have you thought about just donating it to a dev or sell it to one of them for dirt cheap?

Yes it is and yes bad esn but still someone would buy it for $100. I would give it to a dev for the least of $70
Not to sound like a doche but I am going to anyways.. Your own fault for dropping the phone. Man up and pay the $90. Karma is a ***** and will catch up with you one day.
I just payed the $100. I do agree my fault.

Has anyone recently received a replacement from Asurion?

I'm thinking of sending my current MDK phone to Asurion for a replacement because of some scratches on the housing and screen but since the phone is about 7-8 months old I'm scared they'd send me an updated replacement
So I'd thought I'd try and ask here. Thanks for any replies

I'd just try to replace the screen. I'm almost positive you're going to get a locked down phone back from them. Or go on swappa and scoop another mdk s4.

OP - You will get an updated phone.
If MDK is of value, you are now off the ranch and need to go have someone replace the screen for you.
For the amount of the deductible ($100) someone can replace the screen.

We'd be happy to answer that for you. The fastest way to get an answer is to file your claim online at www.phoneclaim.com. It only takes a few moments and you will know the device being offered before completing the claim. If you do not want what is being offered, you can chose to cancel the claim or speak to a representative to discuss any possible alternatives. Hope that helps! We are here if you need us.
Thanks!

The way I read the asurion person is they will send you a s4. If you get it and its not what you want (mdk). Send it back and cancel. What have you got to lose.

I've had a problem with a phone before and had asurion send me another one but the sound wasn't good coming through the ear peace so I sent it back and used the old phone for another couple months before trying to get them to send me another one. I just broke my screen last night and are looking for ways to replace the screen without having to send for a replacement cause I'm also on mdk. This really sucks! :banghead: but I'm thinking I'd rather have a non busted screen over unlocked bootloader. :what:

Yeah i have an MDK S4 on Swppa.com and there are a few more with MDK. The problem with getting someone to replace the glass is a lot of times they are just tempered glass not gorilla glass. Also, the heat needed to get the glue to release from the digitizer isn't good for the other components, so to do it right you need to take all of the components out. If the digitizer is also bad then you're looking at roughly $180-$220 to replace it and the glass.
