[Q] Dream Android Tablet - Android

Hello XDA!
I was just wondering if you could have any feature, any software, any hardware anything at all on an android tablet, what would it be?
What would your dream tablet offer? 7" format? IPS LCD screen? unlocked hardware? bluetooth tether?
The sky's the limit! be creative

I don't really think this belongs in Chef Central... maybe general or something like that. Its not really to do with ROM development, so it shouldn't really be here.
I'm sure there are plenty of threads like this around too, if you are stuck for where to put it.

Yeah, this does not belong in this section.
But to humor the guy I would like:

I envy you that is one monster indeed! I've got some Core Duo with Vista, but it does have Bluray

Well it's going to take me a little bit longer before I can buy the base model and start the upgrading process to that beast of a beast that will last me for quite some time (with minor upgrades/repairs here and there).
I currently have a netbook though, and it's a dual core 2.2ghz with 2gb of ram. All I know is I will marry that thing once it's finished. haha

Thanks for the humor
I realized as soon as I posted that it was in the wrong section.
Actually, speaking of chefs, I'm working on a new brand of android tablet that will be coming out later this year, would you be interested in doing any testing/development on it?

Interesting...
a full size usb would make it thick(er), what if there was a microUSB that was unlocked so you could use an adapter?
wouldn't you prefer a bluetooth keyboard over a slideout that large? then you could also use it while it's docked in the car.
a removable battery is also an interesting idea too.
For $400 the screen type would suffer I think, low pixel density and not so great color. screen type is one of the more costly components.
What about battery life/weight? they are hand in hand, with the removable battery I guess the battery could be smaller so the unit could weight less.

i would love an all in one package. I don't want to have to carry the bluetooth keyboard. It may be an unreasonable concept.
As long as the color on the screen is decent it doesn't really matter. For me it's much more about the touch portion with this type of device. I want it to have a good, accurate, responsive screen if i'm going to drop that kind of money on it.
To give you an idea of where i am in my tablet phase.
I've already owned a Sylvania SYNET7LP which was full of suck out of the box but with some tweaking became nice little device. One of my biggest issues was typing on it. hence the mention of a slider. if the touchscreen was good enough you could ditch the slider i'm just looking for overall package.
I'm currently in the market for tablet number 2 budget around $250.
the front runner is http://www.aliexpress.com/product-g...-capacitive-4GB-512MB-1-0ghz-wholesalers.html
It's missing some of the features i listed but you said "Dream" tablet right?

a removable battery also speaks a lot to the life expectancy of the device. removable means replaceable. replaceable means the device was build not to be a disposable device once the battery has been shot.
as for my reasoning for a full size usb it's pure convenience. The Sylvania i have has the damn dongle and it's just one more thing to have to carry and potentially loose.

i made that originally for a dream phone... but considering that smartphones and tablets are "merging" on the same hardware spectrum... i might as well throw that out to anyone who wanted to look... and its NOT specific to WM or Android even so it fits perfect here...
Although, if you look, I didnt stretch the DREAM part as far as some people seem to be able to stretch it, im thinking real work tech available, but phone/carrier company's too stupid (read, they want to milk us all for MAX $$$ instead of just providing one large massive uber pwnage upgrade that would effectively end cycled purchases every year, the greedy fuks)

Limited storage and no hdmi out. I am tempted to buy a nexus 7 but in the end it is not capable of replacing my Flyer. I would have to keep both
Flyer
Just sayin I'm savin up for the galaxy tab 2 7.0. I love samsung equipment!
Downside on Flyer - old OS or incomplet JB.
Downside on N7;
no pen
no sd card
low storage
no camera (only front one 1.2)
no 3G
no hdmi
some better hardware thow, but with some well known problems with display problems
Nexus 7 aint cheap for no reason looking at all what it does not provide.
N7 simply can not replace Flyer. At least not for me. Seeking for something alse in time if we dont get polished JB.
Edit:
Just realized that our JB rom has less non working stuff that nexus 7 has les then flyer

They n7 has all but replaced my flyer with a couple minor exceptions. Navigon still doesnt work on the n7, so the flyer is my gps unit. No mic in jack, so the flyer is still used for skype/teamspeak...
As for the other points made:
No pen... I don't use the pen, so...
No sd card... That was one thing that originally kept me back from buying an n7, but as it turns out, I don't really need the extra space.
Low storage... 16gb is low?
No (rear facing) camera... I have taken all of 5 pictures with my flyer in the year+ I've had it. Even then, the pictures were awful quality.
No 3g.... Neither does my flyer
No hdmi.... I have used mhl a total of zero times on my flyer...
|-|-|
Everyone's use is different. I use mhl everyday and use a min if 20-30gb
If you don't use the features your loosing the nexus 7 is superior easily. As for how they perform side by side with jelly bean, that's hard to say as their isn't an oem quality jelly bean rom for the Flyer yet, may never be. Honestly probably about the same, flyer might have the edge on gaming believe it or not because stuff has to be optimized for tegra or it won't perform well. But again that's assuming you have a perfect jelly bean rom, which the flyer lacks.
One thing you'll loose over the flyer though is a nice community. The nexus 7 is popular, and a ton of people are complaining about defects and the community is blasting them for it. It's a nightmare. It's about like the chaos you'd expect having a kegger in your living room
Sent from my Nexus 7 using Tapatalk 2
Ok so it goes even more; no vibra lol
and worse game performance on N7 then flyer.
Ok what again does it N7 then actually do better? Browse internet pages?
Now it really makes sence why it was so cheap compared to Flyer.
Gaming performance is better but right now developers haven't optimized a whole lot of games for tegra 3. Gameloft for instance. Nexus 7 users are complaining constantly about frame rate issues. But in the long run it'll be better for gaming you can bet on that, developers are working on it. Just sayin now I realize why people *****ed about tegra 3. Tegra chipsets blow everything our of the water... If stuff is optimized for it. Other chipsets work like direct x on a pc

SONY Xperia Z Ultra 2/3 [Desired Specs]-For Better Devices of the Near Future!

SONY Xperia Z Ultra 2 [Desired Specifications]-To Encourage Better All-In-One Phones for the Future
I have been looking at developments in mobile phones and the current XZU/ZU GPe and some of the Chinese competition to the big brands and decided to make the following list of desired features in a near-future phablet. I believe a phablet with all the below listed features will definitely be the Ultimate Mobile Phablet. I hope that someone from SONY or any other competitive brand will take notice of the desired specification below to create the best phablet that will stand out from the crowd. My aim is to encourage discussion and draw the attention of manufacturers and I really hope that someone will take notice.
I have also read on various blogs online and also read on XDA that there is a rumour that the XZU/ZU GPe may be discontinued and that a successor may not be released. I really hope that this is not the case and that SONY will release a device that will put all the wrongs of the 1st gen device right and better them. There is not much wrong with the form factor of this device. what is wrong is SONY's implementation or non implementation (lack of led flash, stylus) of features that are important to a growing userbase that is keen to use one device as an all-in-one phone and tablet user.
Given how much space is wasted on the construction of the XZU/ZU GPe, I have decided that since there is not much difference between 6.45" and 6.95" that this size be the most optimum/maximum size for the Phablet category of devices and that any device that starts with 7.0" or above to be in tablet category so I hope that I won't be criticised for this choice of screen size. Furthermore, with the rest of the specification I have tried to be as realistic as possible given the current implemenations of most of the technologies listed below by many well known and Asian manufacturers (ZTE Nubia X, ZOPO, LG, Huawei, Alcatel One Touch Hero, Vivo and many others) Enjoy the reading and have fun!

Think about the Samsung Galaxy S5 which has some form of water and dust resistancy. I am happy with this level of protection for the sake of having a removable rear cover.

One thing with the xperia range is that a friend of mine left her's on the roof of her car car over the weekend, came off at ~80km. Battery stayed intact and she could find it with GPS. Try that with a removable battery.

I would like the size to remind the same so if they can increase screensize without making it much bigger then cool. Wont mind it either way really.
As far as I am concerned, I wont mind it to still be 1080p. Too many people playing the numbers game
 Integrated Wacom or N-trig Active Digitizer Stylus
That would be cool!
 Qualcomm® Snapdragon™805/810 with 2.5 GHz Quad-Core Processor with Krait 400
Better be 810 by the time if comes out but more important that the new CPU speed...can we get a damn processor that runs cool enough where it does not slow down. Whats the point of super fast processor that can only run that speed for a few minutes before having to slow down due to thermal issues?
 Integrated Glasses Free 3D Content Viewing
I love 3D!
 3GB RAM
agree
 32GB/64GB/128GB Internal Memory Options
Agree
 MicroSD Slot with up to 128GB Expandable Capacity
For sure...no google style nonsense here without MicroSD slots
 Dual Dolby Surround Sound Stereo Speakers and 3.5mm Jack
could be cool but the sounds is going to be lame anyway..its physics lol
 Primary: 20.7Mp 4K, OIS, Auto Focus, Dual LED Camera with Simultaneous HD Video and Image Recording, Geo-Tagging, Touch Focus, Face and Smile Detection, Image Stabilization, Panorama, HDR
As a photographer, what I want to see is at most a 12MP camera , wouldnt mind if it was 8MP in order to get better low light quality. I dont care for this silly MP race in such tiny sensors. When I want and need a big quality image, I use my camera.
 Integrated Wi-Fi 802.11 a/b/g/n/ac, Dual-Band, Wi-Fi Direct, DLNA, Wi-Fi Hotspot

Because Samsung settles with subpar build quality. Sony does - or tries, not to.

If it has a removable back and battery it could only be water resistant, not waterproof. Unless they come up with some new tech that makes the back cover seal each time, which I doubt would happen anytime soon on a smartphone.
This phone doesn't need to be any bigger than it already is. I have huge hands and it still stretches me a bit and I have to use both hands sometimes. I will definitely not be getting the new one if the size increases. Also it's too thin. Yes it is sexy, yes it is sleep and it might be the thinnest or whatever, but that inevitably causes it's downfall which is why so many were/are cracking from being in the pockets. If it's going to be so thin, it needs to be more rigid, or just make it flex!
Not So Finally.....BEZELS!!! OMG!!! I understand why they are so huge at the top and bottom, but damn they could have at least made them off the screen, just like the ION. Damn I miss that phone for that feature. Next ZU should have OFF SCREEN navigation buttons like the ION did.
I don't personally use Flash, but at least put a better/Great camera on the thing!!!
16GBs is way too small!!! It's 2014, WTF SONY?!!! From Last year onward, NO HIGHEND SMARTPHONE SHOULD HAVE ANY LESS THAN 32GB of freakin' STORAGE MEMORY!!!! MY DAMN FLASHDRIVE HAS MORE THAN MY FREAKING PHONE!!! It classified as an Entertainment Device is it not?! At least that's what the lady in the promo video and photos was using it for!!! Can't watch all them movies with 16GBs! And yes I know that's what an SDCard is for. That's why I own one. But it would be nice to have more device storage!
Cases!!! It needs cases!!!
A waterproof devices with removable battery is possible. But it won't be as thin nor as solid.
I'm afraid 7" is a bit to big for me. Used to owned 2 7" phone enable tablet. But it's too wide for the pockets.
I also owned the T2 ultra as well, it's an impressive device which fix most of ZU problem but add in a few mid ranger problem as well.
I would be happy if the Z2U has a bigger screen but at the same width, a flash, better camera, 2 front facing stereo speakers and a 64bit processor.
Not sure if I want a 2k screen. The T2 can lass at least 10 hours of screen on time at the same battery capacity as the ZU. I also happens to own the vaio pro 11 during the fire sales. Do hope sony bring carbon fibre to the xperia lines.

Dual sim, 64gb & 128gb internal memory, Dolby, Quad microphone, 13mp Secondary camera, Removable battery all are too much to expect, and I doubt would happen in the next ultra device.
6.2 inch with QHD, IPS kind of Z2 (lower power i suppose), 3400mAh battery, snapdragon 805, 3GB of RAM, thicker profile max at 7mm, no shatter proof sheet, dual stereo speaker like Z2, and 13mp with 2x clear zoom (or 5mp downsampled quality) Then I'm sold. Big bezel down and top, that's ok, as long as there are speakers below.
Sent from my C6802 using XDA Free mobile app
Has to have a very good front facing camera for them selfies.
..
Must be 6 mm thick.
Hi-fi sound.
2 speakers or a decent one. Heck the speakers may resemble the looks of 4k bravia tv's speakers, there is room for it.
21 mp first camera, 5 mp front.
Paypal enabled fingerprint sensor.
6.2" qhd screen.
Fast charging.
Must keep the top and bottom bezels or hello to ghost touches.
Make it more fingerprint friendly please.
The outer frame can be metallic but not shiny (apple slate) not black.
Camera shutter button would be great.
Snapdragon 805.
3 gigs of ram.
Noise cancellation earphones out of the box.
More cases.
And a goodbye letter to galaxy note 4 in a romantic way.

I like the Chinese to make these kinda phone cause the olden day's they make crappy and clone phone, but now they have step up the game to make their own signature phone and what i like about them is they will put everything inside to max the hardware...all known branded manufacturer will put some of the thing big but keep some mediocre, maybe to make it not to expensive...
What i think if sony do that with their flagships, i think people will switch to sony in a flash...i know i will...

The Ultra GPe is officially out of stock on the Play Store, so that's probably a goodbye for the GPe version.

[Q] CUBE U25gt2-C4W Any good?

Hi all,
What are peoples thought on the Cube U25gt2-C4W?
Specifically, it is an Android tablet, 7 inches in size with a 5 point IPS screen with a 1024 x 600 pixel resolution.
RAM is 1GB DDR3
ROM is 8GB
Kitkat 4.4
Quad Core Cortex A7 1.3Ghz Mali 400 processor MTK8127 chip
2400mAh Lithium battery.
It also has, Bluetooth, OTG, microSD slot, HDMI, and GPS (apparantly)...
Price is about $82 (incl. delivery).
So has anyone had any experiences (good or bad, with these cheap Chinese Cube tablets)??
(Opinions on battery life particularly appreciated).
I have one of these, paid 69 USD for it. For this price it is a nice device, 18k+ antutu benchmark, has an ips screen which is good for this price.
It does get warm though if you play games like san andreas but they all work fine. battery is the weakest point, only 2400mah so not good for use outside home or car.

Good to know they are making a smaller one, but now shipping with the Intel Atom z2560 dual core...
Camera Scaled down with size, perhaps a more budget friendly phone?

My thoughts are, as long as it doesn't burn out the LTE antenna, $199 is a BARGAIN.
Just got the Asus PadFone x mini. Not bad phone tablet combo performance is decent everyday use notice little lag not bad. Lacks storage but I have 32Gb ad card not issue for me only 8 gig 3 our available. A ton bloatware. I could take it off but doesn't really bother me. The tablet 720 screen looks good. 200 it's nice combo. I had few phones this year. I trade and sell a lot. Not flagship phone on par with moto g.
i this got this phone/tablet has well this is replaceing my window phone
Got it love it
Got it. Love it. Would love it more with root. Since Kitkat 4.4.2 release it makes external micro sd cards useless with 3rd party apps. I could use the extra space. With root + sd card fix app we could revive use of the micro sd card. This is a great phone/tablet combo. Only $200? Wow what a deal. Add root and this baby is a steal deal. :victory:
It's decent coming from a lg flex it's a lot slower it lags a lot and whenever I do multi task it freezes and go back to home page.....once rooted we can crack up the CPU and then this would be beast

Company Website http://www.hp.com
Now why exactly am crazy about this tablet?
first i will tell you a brief history of devices i owned, dunno from where to start, ok lemme list it chronologically according to acquisition:
Galaxy Tab 2
Nexus 7 first gen
Samsung Ativ SMart PC 500T
Blackberry playbook
Nexus 7 2nd gen
Ipad 3 64gb wifi cellular
ipad mini 32gb wifi cellular
Ipad Air 1st gen
Samsung Ativ Smart PC XE700
Microsoft Surface Pro 2 core i5
Microsoft surface Pro 3 core i5 128gb
Asus T300 Chi 128gb
Teclast X98 air 3G dual boot
HP elite X2 1011 G1
Out of the above few devices have been sold and bought twice like Tab2, Nexus 7 2nd gen and iPad 3.
Then i will tell you that i didnt buy it at the MRP suggested by the company, i bought it for 40K INR, if you buy it for the suggested price of 90K then it will absolutely kill the purpose of this review. The recent prices are extremely cheap and i will drop few links below.i got it through a ebay india dealer who usually imports and sells at a reasonable prices in India.
Now the primary aim of a tablet is mobility and long battery life which is primary aim, apart from that my usage is focussed on reading pdf ebooks and scribbling over them so STYLUS SUPPORT IS MUST FOR ME. If you see the above list of devices i used then you will come to know that i used all sorts of styluses from passive wacom ones in SURAFCE PRO 2 and NOTE series phones, to active N TRIG one on SURFACE PRO 3 to SYNAPTICS stylus on ASUS T300 Chi.
Active styluses are better as proposed by most digital artists and i do agree, the wacom passive ones are not enough accurate towards the edge of the screens but after using them all i can tell you i am inclined towards the passive ones with good pressure sensitivity
no need of idiotic AAAA batteries which are damn costly and not widely available either
if your stylus has more tech inside the more chance of defects as happened with me!! The synaptics stylus was particularly irritating and the N trig stylus drained batteries
So in my usage case of writing notes i prefer WACOM PASSIVE STYLUS, obviously your mileage may vary depending on your usage pattern or priority.
Comparative Specs post mortem:
STORAGE:
If you want a big storage space and a tablet it will cost you loads of money, just think of the prices of ipads with bigger storages. Mine has 256 gb SSD and a very fast one too.
CELLULAR SUPPORT:
Now this also is an extremely important aspect for a tablet and if someone avoids one then the reason is mostly INDOOR usage scenario or Less frequent travelling and presence of wifi hotspots in your destinations but round the clock data acccess is a very essential part of a tablet.
Here you will see various companies charging exorbitantly for a cellular modem. Mine comes with 3G modem built in and works nicely though non 3G versions do exist.
BUILD QUALITY:
Now this is a very interesting aspect that i need to tell you, why the hell do you think i changed devices like surface pro 3 and Asus T300 chi? both are sexy as anything and extremely feature rich.....
Answer to above is both the tablets screens cracked on slightest impact as i couldnt get a case for both in india at that point of time so it cost me a lot of money for using SEXY devices so i decided no more again. The pro 3 was just kept from few inches from the ground while inside the backpack and T300 chi screen broke when a friend by mistake applied some torsion on the tablet while still connected to the keyboards.
HERE comes the HP ELITE X2 1011 with military grade build quality and mlg specifications and i have peace of mind while i carry these in my back pack with a minor padding. ITS NOT A GIMMICK AS ITS BUILT TO LAST
SCREEN QUALITY:
From the onset i will tell you the first negative of this tablet SCREEN LOOKS WASHED as it doesnt have the same colour gamut of the ipad or galaxy tab s2 etc.
This i corrected using intel graphics software thats there in windows side of this tablet
Now did i just say windows side of the tablet???? OMG somethings wrong with me, this one just comes with Windows Professional out of the box right? ok may be i am cranky right now.
TEXT INPUT MODES:
Now i see most people wanting to buy a aftermarket keyboard for using with their tablets but the original manufacturer only meant them to be TOUCH ONLY devices for media consumption and not for DOING ANY "REAL WORK"(oops this line is so cliche right now among various OS fanboys)
So how does my Tablet fare here? it comes with a POWER KEYBOARD with a awesome keyboard
has 2 USB ports
AUDIO out 3.5mm port
Smart card reader( immaterial to me)
Finger print scanner that is as good as in laptop worlds though old swiping tech and not just Touch tech as introduced in iphone onwards and now ubiquitious
Mini display port
Extra battery though a bit smaller than the one inside the tablet( i am intentionally leaving out the specs part not to make it too technical as its just a user point of view) this extra battery almost gives me half the battery life that the tablet battery gives
So i think its an awesome accessory to have and was included in my deal, remember ASUS T300 Chi keyboard was bluetooth one so unusable inside BIOS settings and you just have to pray that the display touch never stops working else forget about BIOS tinkering(though i somehow managed to buy a extra usb keyboard and used the micro usb port to change few settings but it was irritating as my tablet crashed and i had to run to market to buy a KB to do a clean windows install)
PROCESSING POWER:
My model comes with Core M 5y71 with 8gb ram and 256 gb HDD. few years back i was of the notion of buying the fastest and the best thinking thats the thing i should have and i will keep that thing for more than a year but i found benchmarks and reviews showing benchmarks are for nerdgasm and only cater to fanboy fanaticism.
I never had used my gadgets to proper or maximal use as i was constantly worried about battery dying on me. I realised in due course that any portable gadgets achilees heel will be its battery. So my gadget buying decisions are always oriented to battery life than absolute best performance. I have reduced my GAS (GEAR ACQUISITION SYNDROME) after i used a hell lot of GAS
Anyways the processor is more than adequate in everyday tasks and portability in mind. This is no surface book...
OS:
I had this TAblet since almost 5 months but why am i reviewing it now?
Ok, it came with Windows 8 Professional and immediately i upgraded it to Windows 10. I was a part of the INSIDER PROGRAM and used to keep my tablet in the Fast or slow ring depending on my wifi speeds
I used to use all desktop apps and many apps from the Windows Store, but something within me was always itching to ditch windows and go for some OS with more apps even though am not a avid user of any specific apps but that feeling of extremely few apps when you are browsing the store used to irritate me.
I then looked into Bluestacks player....... Bull **** on this processor cpu/gpu with stutters as its demanding app and runs within windows
Then came AMIDUOS much better than Bluestacks for this processor and usable for all apps but fluidity was missing and games were still a no go
Tried few times to get Android X86 to work but the enterprise security that comes with this tablet didnt like the install and i couldnt go ahead in selecting the usb drive
Then similar situation with Remix OS 2.0 failed
So days just passed by and then i saw Remix OS 3.0 marshmallow variant being introduced and reluctantly i downloaded it. The file now comes with its own installer, i double clicked it and accepted next and voila, bootloader got installed and a single restart took me to OS selection screen..... WOWWWWW
Remix os on tablets simply rocks and the Android OS simply flies on this hardware with 8GB ram and processor
all games open instantly and its just like native android OS here, everything just works except wacom pen digitizer in android environment(i can live with that )
there are some cons to this tablet cum pc too will list them some other time for now sayonara.......
Sounds very interesting. Was the installation straightforward?
i just try remix os on hp elite x2.it works well so far
