Is now possible to modify the camera to record at 720x480 with Gingerbread ROM?
I think that 720x480 video recording is just asking too much from the P500.
I'll be satisfied if the Gingerbread update will bring a steady 30fps frame-rate instead of ~15fps for the vga video recording
Forget the video - I tried it last week at a party using Void-Echo; worst results I ever had with a mobilephone-cam.

True, but I don't believe that its Void's fault that the camera is crappy.

Agree, LG had to save some money to build a cheap smartphone for us. So we cannot complain, but live with it.
Yeah. I ain't looking for a higher resolution but for better sound and a better frame rate. Also can LG do something about the audio quality ie the hiss issues?

Hello dear XDA members.
I find the camera on the Xperia not as good as other phones, such as the Iphone. I mean when I bought the phone it was the HD version, did they mean that it is able to watch movies with HD quality or does it take pictures and videos in HD?
The camera has an 8.1mp, and it aint that good as I thought it would be, I mean the photos should be really smooth and good.
Am I the only one that has these kind of thoughts?
Yours
the camera on this phone is better than the iphone. Mp arent whats important when its comes to quality. The problem with the stock se camera is to much compression/noise reduction. This causes a blurry picture....or at least not as clear. Also, make sure you turn off image stabilzation if you have it on...this ruins quality even further.
Try downloading alt camera apps from the market....vignette is one of if not the best to download from the market. This app allows you to set your own compression settings.
Also, alot of people like camera 360 ultimate....try them all and find which you like best.

Yea I find the blurry very annoying cause the smallest move I make the picture also get blurry. I compared the camera with a friend of mine that has an Iphone and It looked like the picture was better on his phone.
However, I will take your advice and download new camera apps. Thank you =)

I see scattered posts all over the forums about taking pictures with the G-Tab's camera - only to have them come out highly pixelated and very, VERY low resolution. It happens to me under CM7, and has been just as bad with other ROMs I've tried.
And taking videos is simply a non-starter. Freezes after 2 sec and nothing is saveable.
Has anyone come up with a solution/fix? Thanks!
I believe the video recording issue is due to the lack of hardware drivers for video encoding/decoding for Gingerbread...

Definitely Video recording is because there are no hardware drivers available for gingerbread from what i read and for the camera you may want to try another camera app, but it could be related to not having hardware drivers.
Makes sense...except for anyone with Gingerbread! Thanks, all.
BTW, check out the latest CM7 nightly 42... the camera works great including video recording!!!

(slapping forehead) I just went back to VEGAnTab to use the camera. #[email protected]%#^&!
Okay...thanks! Back to CM7.
Is this a new release? Last cm7 i tested was nightlies 41 and cam/ video was all bugged up.
[edit]
WOW awesome they fixed this issue. I'm almost convinced to flash this back on my g tab and test it out again.

Well, sorry. Flashed and still very pixelated stills. Recording a video doesn't crash the app, but nothing in playback except inky darkness. Sigh.
Video works "OK"... not great... pics are still pixelated tho!!

Well that's not quite "the camera works great including video recording!!!" - is it, Craig? Come on, man. Test it before making declarations like that.
Sorry. A little peeved since I reflashed my tab for this.
yeah... it seemed to work great... I wasn't expecting great video quality, so it was what I expected... but the photos looked good in the Gallery app... but were pixelated when I viewed them on my PC...
really sorry for "semi-false" news!!
Still no photo and video for GTab Ginger?
This really is too bad. I have Gingerbread on my GTab and the photo quality is terrible (pixilated) and the video does not work. The photos were really clear before I flashed to Gingerbread. I can't seem to find a satiffactory solution anywhere. Then there is the whole issue of video chat....

gojimi is working on a fix for his VEGANtab ginger edition, no eta yet but like all things gingerbread, eventually it will work.
If you must have camera/video/hardware acceleration for video playback, stick with froyo based roms for now.
when the ics update comes out for the s2 will there be zero camera lag like the nexus?
or is there some kernal that can do this?
From what I've heard the camera "speed" is down to both software and hardware
Although the software will (I think) be improved, the hardware is the same so at best it will be a bit faster.
There probably won't be a change though.

I think it is totally possible depending on if the software in the ics build works well with the camera hardware of the sgs2.
I know the hardware is capable on the sgs2 because when I shoot in burst mode using "Camera FX" I can shoot 32 photos in under 5 seconds

That's at a low resolution though, not the full 8mp.
Using fast burst camera I can take shots at 480x800 roughly every 0.03 seconds (tested using an online stopwatch )
I like the idea, but I think I'd rather just have have properly focused pics...

If you focus the first shot won't the subsequent shots use the same focus?
Should be fine for most cases if the subject is the same distance away from you
Hi ,.
is there any MOD or hack for SGS II camera , enables us to shoot uncompressed pictures , (for better quality),.
THX
use any custom camera app like camera360 and set the quality level to 100%, stock camera app does compress the image @ 90%

I saw a post on here (CM9 discussion thread maybe ? Not 100% certain) bout 3-4 months ago saying someone was working on giving the SGS2 the ability to shoot pictures in RAW. Haven't seen anything further since, and I'm not sure it was in that CM9 thread.

That would be amazing. I was wondering if it was possible to get RAW images from the SGS2 camera. Can't afford a DSLR
That's the thing tho, is it even possible ? Yeah, it would be pretty good. Wonder if that would iron out the various 'artifacts' you sometimes see in images taken with the SGS2 ? (like the red/pink blotch, poor quality in low light, etc, etc). May not even be possible with the hardware no matter what's done with the firmware.

Good morning!
One of the things I use on my LM2 is the slow motion video. But the quality is quite low (I'm assuming the 120fps are achieved by either interlacing the footage or filming at a low resolution and then upscaling it) and I don't know if this is an hardware or software limitation.
I tried Open Camera and other apps, but I can't get more than 30fps out of them.
My two questions are:
- Are there other camera apps capable of 120fps (or more) on this phone, preferably with better quality?
- How do the alt ROMs fare in this aspect? One of the things keeping me away from custom ROMs is the fear of losing this feature.
Thank you!
Got any answers?

Unfortunately no... Still looking...
I also want to know this..is our hardware not capable
If you are on Nougat, use google camera mod. It has a slight better quality on slow motion and also records audio (very nice)
