I am having issues with my battery on nero v4.1. I had my phone on idle for 4.5 hours and i lost 8%! I usually lose only 2-3% in 8 hours on idle. Something is very wrong here. I did recondition the battery. I did stop a lot of running services that I didn't need. I always have brightness all the way down, gps off, data and wifi off when not needed, power saving mode off, haptic feedback off and vibration off. Any suggestions? Also how do I monitor what programs are running that's affecting my battery? Thanks in advance.
8%!!!!?!?!?!?!!!!!!???!?!??!!!?!?!!?! IN FOUR AND A HALF HOURS!?!!!!???!?!?!?!?!? SOMEBODY CONTACT SOM RIGHT NOW!!! HE NEEDS TO GET ON THIS RIGHT AWAY!!!

I don't mean to be a jerk, but that's not uncommon at all and actually quite good. Don't sweat it.

Thank you very much for contributing dcpetterson, jerk. This is actually not common at all. I have had better results and so do others when their phones are on idle. Can someone else please have suggestions for me? What's also good to monitor what programs are affecting battery life. Thank you.

Did you freeze some of the bloat that was left on the rom? using TiBU, freeze MediaHub and The DRM services. Those things turn itself on and run in the back
I haven't bought the full version of titanium yet, I'm guessing I should lol.
Also keep in mind that the battery percentage depletes faster near the top. See if you get the same result when the battery is <50%.
Dude, use your phone don't let it sit idle
This is normal, I lose about 6 in 4 hours in idle
Ya know, I have four, yes four, batteries for my Vibrant.... I keep them all charged by cycling them through the phone and a wall charger...
On any given day if I can't stay tethered to an A/C source I need to swap batteries at least once but sometimes twice. I don't think I use the phone a whole bunch - I'll do some tapatalk forum browsing, maybe a little web surfing, type 10-15 sms's, maybe an email or two (I do sync to exchange) but by noon the morning battery is at 30% and I'm swapping...
So, for you to complain about losing 6% over a four hour period is to me to complain about a firmware which is gently suckling electrons from the battery pack nestled against the phone's abdomen...
...which is to say that from my perspective you're complaining about your phone working properly... My uncensored opinion is to appreciate that you're losing 64% less battery than I am over the same period of time and thank Sombionix for a great ROM

***NOTICE***
The ROM Manager version of CWM does NOT wipe battery stats properly, as with many other things. What you need is jt1134's version of CWM that is all happy and works and stuff.
You can find his happy CWM here. And here. And also here.
And here.
Big thanks to LegionTHEFecalExcretion for the heads up on that.
***END NOTICE***
NOTE: On current DL30 and EB01 ROMs, you will not see battery life like you did on DL09 with undervolted kernels. There are NO undervolted kernels as of yet, everything kernel wise with Froyo ROMs in very much stock. These steps will improve your battery life in comparison to when you flashed Froyo, but you are not going to see spectacular changes in battery life up to what you were getting with undervolted DL09, etc. It's just not possible until we get undervolted kernels and Froyo matures for our device, development wise.
Hi everyone, I've been seeing a lot of threads about bad battery life, whether switching to Kaoscinate, Vanilla, or DL30. Stop it! Just kidding. There is a simple process everyone should follow when switching between different enough ROMs, like AOSP, CM6 and TW Eclair and Froyo. This is how you retrain your battery.
1. Charge your battery to 100% (when it gets there, let it SIT there, your phone is NOT reporting correctly).
2. Reboot to Recovery and Advanced -> Wipe Battery Stats.
3. Reboot, and use your phone until it is VERY low (5-10%, you can let it die if you want).
4. Charge your phone back to 100%
5. (Optional) Power down, then power on phone. (Thanks goes to BrwnSuperman for this suggestion, give it a try!)
Your battery issues should be solved. This needs to be done every once in a while, especially when switching between different ROMs and OS versions.
User dalrym05 posted this alternate method for retraining the battery on page 4 as well, so I thought I would share it here in the OP. I'm posting this as a USE AT YOUR OWN RISK method, as I have not tested it, and am not quite sure what the *228 steps for it actually accomplish and have to do with retraining the OS battery reporting, so I'm leaving it quoted to dalrym05 for the time being.

Here were my steps to better battery.
1.*228 option 1
2.*228 option 2
3. Run battery completely dead to 0%
4. Plug in and boot immediately into cwm
5. Wipe battery stats and dalvik cache
6. Reboot and let charge fully before unplugging
7. Completely discharge again and fully charge again.
After this you should notice a very nice increase in battery as I did. My battery life is back up to par with eclair.

IE
-Close programs that you aren't using.
-Don't leave your camera or navigation running in the background.
-Turn off WiFi & GPS etc when you aren't using them.
-Don't run your screen at full brightness if you can help it.
-Figure out what uses more battery life than other things:
Pandora, internet browsing, downloading, camera/camcorder, Angry Birds etc.
If you are rooted, try and narrow it down to the best kernel/theme for your situation. I've found that I have better battery with a non-voodoo kernel but the performance increase is worth it so that's a trade-off that I make.
Let's hear from our readers: What is working for you?

Would not surprise me if this is all it is. I have turned my phone off at 5% for an hour and turned it back on without charging and then it showed 45%. I know when batteries are low letting them sit a little bit can help, but not that much.
It is just being reported inaccurately by the OS.

Yes, but not as a thread, it gets posted in everyone else's "Why does my battery life suck ass" threads, so I made this so maybe people would see it and try it before posting another useless question thread in Development.
Definitely works though. Did it yesterday. Good post. It has been posted in other threads ... but I think we all know people don't read through everything very often.

I have the battery charger and 3 batteries, I always run my battery low and leave it in the charger for a day.
I did this last night and it didn't work too well for me.
Also, when I go to wipe battery stats in the recovery, it doesn't tell me if it wiped or not, just goes back to the advanced menu.
And also, should I be concerned that when I cold boot into the recovery, it doesn't appear to be CWM? It says Android recovery...I know I have CWM recovery installed.
Samerhing happens to me... and I just took it off the charger and I'm on 96 percent in less than 1 min

Wow same here..I just took mine off the charger bout 10 minutes ago and it's at 95% now. I guess I'm gonna let the battery run completely dead and charge it and see what happens.
I did something similar. I charged to 100% while it was on, removed from charger then powered off. When phone was off I plugged charger back in and waited til it was at 100% then unplugged again and powered on. Waited until phone was completely on then unplugged again and connected to charger. Waited til it was at 100% and while still plugged in at 100% booted into recovery and wiped battery stats. Then rebooted phone into OS and unplugged. I had tried this previously with DL09 and it helped a little. Last night I wanted to see how my battery would drain after doing this. With WiFi on and I got about 10 emails during the night, from 8:30pm to 6:00am I lost only 13%!!! Previously I would have lost from 35 to 40%. ymmv

Wow.
If I go to Battery History and change the top dropdown to Partial Wake Usage, it says Android System at the top with a bar that's at least 75% full.

This is a proven technique, and it takes patience. Seeing the battery drop from 100% down to 95 or 96% after unplugging is normal behavior. I've done this already. Left my phone unplugged overnight and lost 1% battery. If you're too impatient to take the time to do this, that's your loss. You'll see the battery life "improve" over the course of a few days as the reporting gets more and more accurate.

I agree with supplysidejesus. This is a standard practice and should be done with each major rom or kernel install. This leak hasn't been put long enough for most of us to know what our expected battery life will be yet. Give it a few days for your phones to adjust.

I bought a Samsung Galaxy S 2. Very happy with it, but for the battery life. It lasts a day with medium usage. I want to stop that. I thought of two methods: root it and delete any unnecessary apps, like Hubs or use a customRom.
I am new to Sammy, new to Android and don't want to brick my phone or something. Could someone give me an advice please. When I saw the others with 2 days and 80% battery left i was like "Damn..."
Mine lasted 2.5 days, tops, with minimal usage.

~2 days with normal usage for me - since I went to Android 2.3.4 based firmwares (XXKG*); before that it was ~1 day.
About flashing, just read all the thread here about the matter, Intratech's firmware download threads, the CF-Root root thread and others.
They all have good and solid info on what to do.
Just try to figure what needs to be done and most importantly why, take two or three days for that and after your first flash you'll see: Flashing the SGS2 is easy as 3.1415
// EDIT
*lol* jje beat me a bit xD yeah follow his link battery xD
Root your phone, it will do no harm but add some advantages.
And mate, please don't see those persons posting they are getting 2/3/4 days outta battery, it's not about the Standby time, it's about the Screen On time. If you get around 5-5½ hours of Screen On time then you are pretty good, now you can use that in 12 hours, a day or even two days. Besides, just check under Battery usage stats/graph that your Awake and Screen On time is synchronized or not. If you see a lot of Awake bars activity when screen is off then you must have something going on background which is causing the battery drain. To see what is actually running on Background download and install 'Better Battery Stats', it's a damn helpful app to have. Download it from here,
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1179809
See under Wakelocks and check which apps are causing the wakelocks and then freeze/uninstall them with Titanium Backup/Pro, if you don't need them.
Regards.
Why do you need 2+ days of battery life? Do you not have electricity in the room you sleep? As long as I have battery left after 18 hours, I know there will be at least a 6 hour stretch to charge.
What's the difference if you charge it every night or every second, or even third night? It's not like it's a difficult chore.
Actually I just bought it yesterday and this is my first charge. But after a disconnect my phone from the charger, the battery nearly immediately goes down to 99% from 100%. It is just too quick comparing to my old G2. Does it happen to anybody, or just me? Thanks for all the support.
No one can help me? Pleaseeeee

Your problem is a dearth of patience. You couldn't even wait 3 hours after your first post to complain that no one was helping you? Why do you think that you are entitled to an instant answer? Likewise, how is it the least bit significant that the battery meter reads 99% or 100%? Instead of being so impatient, wait to see how long the battery lasts until it is 0%. Or even better observe the run time and consistency over several charging cycles.
I seriously doubt that you have any issues whatever. Apart from your impatience.

I hope that you enjoy your new phone. Or at least feel that you had a productive opportunity to test it. Your position remains unreasonable though.
Expecting people to trip over themselves, rushing to answer your questions is unrealistic. That will only frustrate you and alienate everyone else. Few people are going to obsess over whether the battery level shows 99% or 100%. It's too small of a difference and too short of an interval to be meaningful or infer anything from. There are countless reviews that you can avail yourself of to form a reasonable expection. Or just use common sense. Do you really judge anyone's project based on the first 30 seconds of observing them? Or would you at the very least observe their progress over half a day before forming even tentative opinions?
If you really cannot remove your time constraint, then you should still observe the battery use for most of the day. And rather than posting new questions, make an effort to search existing threads where you could find an immediate answer as to normal battery life. Expecting a new response instantly wouldn't be rational.

You really can't tell anything until you've had several charge cycles. Trying to determine whether there is a problem in a day is not reasonable. You need at least a week.
Hello!
I have the phone with me for 5 days only, and since day 1, I noticed battery life is no way close to other users and review sites. I'll try to explain all i did since I got the phone.
Took it out of the box, turned it on, used ita bit, updated via OTA to LP, rooted it and then used it a lot until battery was like 10, 15%, just to later read the manual and remember that I didn't charge the phone for 30 min before turning it on.
Put it on charger, slow charging and I was at work, so I had to take it off at 60% to finish charging at home.
Used it the other day and battery life was awful, wouldn't last nearly half the time i had seen on reviews and users screenshots, and it would heat a lot only from doing normal stuff like web browsing.
Decided to do a clean install of LP and do not root for a while (because I saw on the root thread that some user was having battery drain issues and heating after root).
After clean install and no root, battery was little to nothing better. Before SOT with heavy usage would be 3:30, 4:00 hrs, and now it can reach 4:30, maybe a bit more.
TLDR:
Does the 30 min initial charge can screw up a phone's battery if it is not done before turning the device on?
If yes. What can I do? Only replace the phone? Service here is not good, I only have 7 days after purchase to send it back, and if I do, Phone will be 30 days under inspection so they can maybe send me another one.
Could it be a LP issue? I don't think so because people are complaining about battery drain, but usually their SOT is about 5, 6 hrs.
Help would me much aprecciated as I only have 2 more days to think if I send the device back or not.
Thanks in advance
Anybody?

I opened this thread because I really need to know if a phone can have its battery damaged if you don't charge it for 30 min before turning it on. Or if there are cases of damaged batteries on new phones.
